This place is a fantastic study spot, not only because they have coffee and tea, but the staff and the patrons make it friendly and comfortable.
The location is fantastic; right on the corner of Downers Grove Main Street. I appreciate how it contributes to making our downtown a nice place! The people here welcome you.
Tonight they have a live pianist here playing some original tunes. The songs are interesting, relaxing, and inviting. It's loud enough to hear from across the room, but not so loud that it's annoying and you can't hear yourself think. A small crowd is gathered around him listening, and in between songs he will give a short explanation of the music he is about to play: how he composed the rhythms and the fluctuations in keys.
Another good thing I noticed Pete's doing is collecting school supplies for families in the Downers Grove district 58. One of the employees set it up in conjunction with citywave.org. They've got a neat 5 foot tall sign (designed by someone with marketing skills I could only hope for), and a box with colored pencils, binders, a lunch box, etc. that people have donated. It's set up right next to the coffee bean bins.
Obviously, Pete's wouldn't have a successful chain if it did not have great coffee and tea. I'm getting a fancy, spicy, black tea - the Masala Chai.
If you're looking for a chill place in the west Burbs, now you know where to go.
