On the Grid : Pete's Coffee

"A heaven for techies… Pete’s is the right place to fill the need for a caffeine kick. Housed in Bishop Magua’s building on Ngong Road, where a number of startups have offices, this coffee shop becomes the center point meeting place for a quick bite. Grab a burrito here or pancakes, they have a variety of options on their menu." - New Colony Studio

Why Michelin-Listed San Francisco Italian Restaurant Che Fico Cut Its Controversial Surcharge in Half  - Eater SF

"Four customers with lactose intolerance are suing Peet’s Coffee, according to the San Francisco Business Times. They allege it’s discriminatory to charge more for nondairy milk alternatives; the business charges $0.80 extra for oat, almond, or soy milk, though per ounce those milks cost less than standard dairy cream." - Paolo Bicchieri

Google
Plenty of seating inside and out which a lot of the starbucks in the area don't have. Reasonably priced cakes and muffins, and very generous cake slices. Good tasting hot coffee.

Google
This Peet’s location has been going downhill lately, I asked for a matcha latte and they gave me ICED MILK. I used to come here often but I guess not anymore.

Eduardo Morales

Google
Awesome coffee, but the service was top tier. I am easy to win over though, I got a smile from the server and he told me to have a nice day, so I was won over.

Adi

Google
I went there today and the service was terrible around 2. I ordered two protein coffees and both the manager and barista had no idea what happened to my order. When they finally gave me my protein coffees 20 minutes later— they neglected to add the coffee. I essentially just paid for high protein milk and still paid to make coffee at home. The weekend staff is better. I’ll will make adjustments to my purchases moving forward. Thankfully Joe and the Juice is close.

Google
I’m a big fan of Peet’s but was disappointed to find they don’t use a proper espresso machine at this location . Instead it’s a button press machine that anyone could use. As a result the flavor is not as good. Staff were very friendly and service was fast.

Google
With no hesitation one of my favorite coffee franchises in Shanghai/ Beijing. The quality of the coffee is amazing and even when at times it might be crowded, it is still a good place to go and drink a huge Flat White, one of my favs of the menu.

Christopher Hylton

Google
Great coffee. Good food for a quick bite. The homeless around the building and in the outside seating really hurts the feel of this coffee shop

Ross Starkey

Google
Great coffee shop and a lovely Starbucks alternative. Got the egg and bacon brioche which was super tasty. Nice indoor and outdoor seating area on Market Street with friendly staff. Keep up the good work.

Yelp
I understand the location which is smack in downtown so there's a lot of homelessness around and what not, but I don't know why Peet's has only 3.5 stars. This place has always been readily accessible and the service is always great. The food and drink menu is general as it a chain coffee shop. Overall, I enjoy coming here.

Yelp
Worst location ever. This location has a lot of problems. The service is terrible. The people who make the drinks are undertrained and some of them have an attitude problem. I tried to order a matcha drink and the person who was making it he added a crap load of sugar even though I order it without any sugar. The worst mistake is that he added coffee to a matcha drink. He tried to argue with me about how the drink even though I have been ordering the same drink at a different location. The other location never added coffee to a matcha drink. This location blasting music inside and it's hard to place the order.

Yelp
Walked up to the door to check hours. It opened at 0600 and it was 0559 and the door was open. I walk in and the lady tells me they are closed... I'm a little confused how but I ask her what time they open and she she says 0600. I tell her ok so in one minute and she doesn't say anything. I just walked out. If you plan on opening at 0600 on the dot you shouldn't have the doors to your establishment open. Come on now, very rude and starting my morning off wrong. Won't be back.

Yelp
I loved this Peet's location - I'd never been before and found the inside charming and the staff incredibly friendly. Since I was visiting and had never been to a location before the cashier pointed out a few items that were different and offered a few favorites for me to try. I enjoyed it so much that I went back more than once to try some different things. I also really loved their baked goods - the muffins were perfect! I hope every location is just as solid.

Yelp
I ordered an iced coffee, and ended up with a hot coffee transferred to a plastic cup! Did not even care to put ice or redo it! must be nice for an easy fix! I come here almost every day and never experienced such a thing!

abood a.

Yelp
Guys, your coffee is good Your place is perfect, you should be doing the best business I think you need to keep the place clean Tables and chairs are messy Nothing organized I always come here it's the same Random people sitting outside, homeless and alot of smokers That's really bad

Gene F.

Yelp
Disappointed. I usually come to this location because it's a straight shot from my apartment, as a result of the lack of care towards a customers order I have been coming here less and less. I'm currently on my 5th or 6th visit in a row where the drink I order with extra caramel in it, which is a pretty solid charge on top of the drink, comes with none. I have given up mentioning it to the baristas as I have gotten nothing but attitude and weird looks, even after they admit they didn't put any in. Hopefully this gets fixed because paying 7.10 for a drink, missing half of the reason I'm buying it, is awful.

Yelp
The people think I am doing okay and think of my sensitive q & a about placing my order with Peet's since 1994 from Albany, Berkeley Richmond, CA. is also responsible for this project with coffee. All the fresh coffee mills have been a good business! I love my new chorizo and hot horchata with coffee. Delicious flavor if I had to choose Peet's with my friends' job @Peet's/Corte Madera.
google avatar

Amy F.

Yelp
The vanilla latte I ordered was delicious. Rich and creamy and sweet without being overly sweet. The baristas are friendly and the location is perfect for stopping for an afternoon pick me up. The reason for my 3 star review is the condition of the store. The walls and cabinets are banged up, the condiment cart was filthy, all of the appliances looked like they could use a good scrub. Peet's needs to send in a cleaning crew and a carpenter to do some much needed repairs. San Francisco has so many good options for coffee, I won't be back to this location.
google avatar

Andrea H.

Yelp
This is a standard Peets in terms of the food and drinks. They have a good amount of seating both indoors and outdoors. My coffee was ready fast. I think the barista taking orders must not have been having the best day. She seemed bored. She also didn't ask if I wanted ice in the water I ordered along with my coffee. Not a huge deal, but the service could have been better.

Yelp
This unfortunately is one of the easiest and saddest reviews I've had to write. It pains me to give out one star. In this case it's simply business 101. I'm in line behind a couple, and as they leave, a grungy looking gal who makes the coffee yells out at her as leaves calling her the B. Word. Now what did she do do deserve this. As I was right behind them .. nothing of any importance. As I received my order the anger and seething just pours out of her. She's truly mad at the world. The manager should either remove her or let her go as she brings the entire establishment down to her level. As you walk the streets look around. Many of the businesses are shuttered do to various reasons. Rampant crime, low sales, or in this case a store of malcontents running the asylum. Watch your order carefully if you chose to order here lest they turn their scorn towards your order. Another business racing to the bottom.

Yelp
"The universe keeps revealing her to me, screwing with my head." - Serendipity (the movie) Hey, and I don't mind! ;D Hola! I've been to this PEET'S dozens of times as the location is central to the Financial District, the Shopping District, and on hella busy Market St. Yet I've never written a review here because sometimes places of routine or of places just cause, well she calls me Mr. Worldwide, I like it lol, so here it is! :D I met my bestie here, yelp best friend but more importantly my sweetest IRL human, ever (well I have another but she's always in the Sunset, so lol)! We met up to hangout on a gorgeous sunny day, we decided to meet in cray downtown (no worries doll no taser needed with me around lol) and walk around and chat. Of course, let's get drinks first and since the Tiki bars are all closed we chose PEET'S! Walking in to no lines was a tad bit shocking as I've been here many times with long lines. Pleasantly surprised, it took us both a long minute on just deciding on what to order, so bestie orders her Matcha (she's a Matcha freak ahh;)) and I order a Yuzu Tea Shaker. Order was straight forward and drinks were made in a timely manner. Drinks in hand we take a stroll to Yerba Buena Park to just hangout and enjoy the universe. Hula on stage, the entertainment of the day, ironic in a way since we both have lived in California and Hawaii at some point in our lives. And don't get me started on our French connection! I do believe in serendipity:D Ahh the sun was out, flowers blooming, birds chirping, I'm sipping cold tasty PEET'S drinks with the sweetest soul in my three lifetimes.. Life is good. PEET'S - solid 4-stars! BESTIE - solid 1,000,000,000-stars!

Yelp
This Peets use to be another coffee place. Glad Peet is available in a new space. I do enjoy a good morning boost with Peets coffee. This place also has outdoor seating .
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
iced sugar free vanilla oat latte was too sweet, would order zero-less syrup next time
google avatar

Alex R.

Yelp
Got a bacon cheddar brioche to go. When I took my first bite, it was ice cold. It seems they just pulled the sandwich out of the frig or freezer. The bottom bun was soggy. It was an unpleasant sandwich to eat. I did not have time to go back to get it fixed, and I did not have access to a microwave to heat up. I ended up throwing it away. What a waste.

Danielle E.

Yelp
The worst Peet's. I've been a customer of Peet's for years And never have a bad experience. This location is the exception. I've been disappointed on several occasions and won't go back. Rude staff, to customers and to each other. The manager, Jennifer, allows this to occur.
google avatar

Mert M.

Yelp
If you shut down the bathroom 2 hours before closing time! You will get a one star plus ı will be peeing outside of the store just fyi! I really know everyone gets mad at the homeless for taking a shit on the streets of Sf but there is no restroom around when u need one! I bought a coffee so ı can ı use the restroom... But it is closed.

Sophie L.

Yelp
ordered through the app and once arriving was told they didn't have 2/3 items i ordered. They said i could replace them with any other sandwiches even though I had bought the most expensive one. Asked for a refund of the difference and they could not seem to do that. Worst attitude and customer service ever. Ended up getting different sandwiches and they came barely toasted... The middle was cold. My drink was also not stirred or mixed at all. Also there was something thick and slimy in my drink the first sips i took. Maybe the syrup but with the attitude I wouldn't be surprised if they had spit in it. Couldn't drink it with that thought after. I would have this business a 0 star review if i could.

Mari M.

Yelp
Tall slender Latina maybe Asian mixed young lady was more concerned about what was "easier for her" then to make a customers order the way the customer ordered it. If you are going to be in customer service roles, then service the customer with a smile and ask yourself how you can make your customers day better. Whatever is going on in your life miss barista is your own problem. Everyone has something going on in their lives. You are not the exception. We all are dealing with something. Leave your problems at the door when you walk in to work, remember you are being paid to uphold Peet's standards of customer service. Taking shortcuts, leaving out ingredients or adding more ingredients than asked because it's "easier for you", is not ok. I sincerely hope that whatever is heavy on your heart comes to an end and that you find some peace. Fake it till you make it. Don't drag everyone down with you.
google avatar

Terance C.

Yelp
My experience with coffee was great ,but the customer service was terrible,at 6:05 am 8/10/23 the cashier insulted me by saying I have a cartoon voice and I can make a lot of money doing voice over in Hollywood.Doesn't know if I had throat cancer or surgery etc . Please keep unprofessional comments to yourself keep making coffee .Short Asian male with multi colored mini stuffed animals necklace. In San Francisco this is real unprofessional behavior. Please train your employees on proper respect of customers.
google avatar

Andres A.

Yelp
Normal Peet's coffee with a lot of room, the staff are friendly and great location. The reason why I give it 3 stars is because their outlets don't work and I was looking for a place where I can work while drinking some coffee. If you plan to work from here make sure your device are fully charged.
google avatar

Tiff A.

Yelp
The staff was very rude. It wasn't just one person was everyone working there. That is definitely a culture and It is reflected as well by the cleanliness of the establishment.

Addy A.

Yelp
Food was ok, but coffee burnt my tongue and was pretty average. The employees were polite which is the reason for 2 stars.

Sandy F.

Yelp
Centrally located, good customer service, two floors well layied out. Overall a satisfactory experience.

Abdullah P.

Yelp
It's always a 50/50 experience when coming here but I come to terms that this location is the most inconvenient one. The tall young asian/ Hispanic cashier employee who wears a hoodie today on March 6th, 10-11AM always gives me problems. Every time I want to order, he immediately always cuts me off every time by always saying " anything else? Anything else? Anything else? " no smile, upselling nor good energy. What happened to customer relationship? It's not the first time, more like the third- fourth encountering him. I literally feel rushed and annoyed when ordering. Even when he gets my order down, it's put in incorrectly and I always get my order made wrong here. I tell him at the very end " cinnamon dust topping and no lid" I literally get no cinnamon and a lid. As well as my milk was steamed in an espresso silver cup which I know is made incorrectly. Before taking this as regular customer complaint, I was once a barista for Peet's for almost two years and I know sloppy work when I see it. So many things wrong with this location including the type of employees you hire here. I'm pretty sure HR would even agree with me. Whoever the manager is for this store and even if you read these complaints, please retrain your employees on basic register skills, upselling, steaming milk in proper equipment and showing good energy to customers. As for me sadly, I won't come to this location on regular base anymore. I've had way too many uncomfortable experiences being harassed by your previous employee and no change ever happens. Please consider the type of people you want for Peet's and not hire disrespectful people. Nobody wants to pay for expensive coffee just to get disrespected and not get it made the correct way. For disclaimer, I don't dislike Peet's. Just this particular location's needs a lot of shaping up and improvement. I recommend you guys try the one close to sutter, better quality and more friendly. If the manager reads this and disagrees, feel free to message me if you want more details.
google avatar

Jack M.

Yelp
The coffee is fine. But they intentionally disable all their power outlets so I couldn't stay and work. This greatly diminished the value of the place for me.
google avatar

Clay B.

Yelp
Great coffee...the baristas at 773 Market Peet's will complete whatever your mix of beans or your specific grind is to order...it's made to perfection!
google avatar

Jeremy R.

Yelp
Peet's has moved a little from being a unique, niche coffee purveyor to the mainstream. That being said, service is great and they make a nice cuppa. In this day and age, though, plant milks should not incur an up charge, it's 2019 for God's sake.
google avatar

Chloe R.

Yelp
I love peets coffee and am so happy about their plant based options! Their hazelnut oat latte is my favorite coffee order and both the Mediterranean flat bread
google avatar

Elena N.

Yelp
Our boss offered to get coffee from Peet's for the office on Friday, October 21st. I needed any afternoon pick me up, so I said yes please! Someone ran across the street and grabbed it. I got my coffee drink around 2:15pm. I got a Quadruple nonfat cappuccino, bone dry. The espresso was good, but there was so much milk in it. I basically had a latte. I don't mind a little poured milk in my cappuccinos, but this was definitely not bone dry. Our boss offered to get coffees for us again last week and the second time, my cappuccino had even more milk! And I had specified no poured milk, just foam. I don't drink a lot of milk in general, so this time, the coffee made my stomach hurt. Maybe because it's a new shop, they are still working out the kinks, but a bone dry cappuccino should not resemble a super milky latte. Not good at all!

Jessica P.

Yelp
The Oat milk latte tasted great but the Pumpkin bread had egg shells in it and could taste them when we ate the bread. That spoilt the entire experience. Great location but always busy. They need to make it livelier and not so dinghy and dark. The vibe is pretty dismal considering it's a café.
google avatar

Seliya G.

Yelp
Unfortunately the WiFi here doesn't work at all. It looks like a good coffee shop to study/work at since there's a lot of space (upstairs too). However, only come here if you don't need WiFi at all. The sfwifi others are mentioning isn't working for me either.
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
Needed a coffee place with WiFi, this place listed as having WiFi and has a hotspot but network is down and employees didn't care when I mentioned it. A simple reboot probably would've worked but there was no effort by staff to fix. Probably won't be coming back here for those two reasons. Update: however the SFWIFI listed in the photo does work.

Chris P.

Yelp
Maybe this is a HR review but oh well, public review? Used to be a regular but until one incident, me and a friend of mine came in around the month of May during the afternoon for two cortados, I jokingly told the female cashier to have them " made them with love " obviously almost everyone knows that joke and she chuckled as well to it. Once we picked up our drinks, we asked kindly/jokingly to the young Hispanic tallish barista " was it made with love? " and her response was " I don't think you want be loved by a lesbian " me being confused as why her sexual attraction had to with what I said, we left and never came back as we felt very uncomfortable. This location is wonderful as well as the staff, used to come almost everyday until this person made it a terrible experience. I recommend for her to not work in customer service if you can't handle a friendly joke.
google avatar

Gloria M.

Yelp
I will give them two stars since the coffee was just how I ordered it. Other than that it was a bad experience. Walked in waited about 4 mins, for the ladies behind the counter to notice I had walked in and ask if I needed help. They both seemed bothered by the fact that they had to help customers, I'm sorry I interrupted your personal conversation.

Alexis G.

Yelp
all I got to say is rude customer service. first & last time I go here. I rather make coffee at home. or go to starbucks just a 5 min walk from peet's
google avatar

Hao B.

Yelp
Great Peets location & staff is great! I usually get the Havana Cappuccino, delicious with condensed milk + shots & milk, topped with cinnamon is the best cappuccino for me! Thank you Stella for wishing me a Happy Birthday when I redeemed my birthday drink!
google avatar

Shirley N.

Yelp
Great downtown location. Located on Market St. near the BART entrance. Pros: * plenty of seats - outdoors, two indoor levels - plenty of tables and counter seating. * electrical outlets for those that need to plug in. * good staff ratio * good selection of drip coffee & espressos. * quick service Cons: * can't think of any right now Located in the place that used to be Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

Adrienne Gould G.

Yelp
Great Coffee, excellent service and I go there quiet often now. The cafe is quite and friendly.
google avatar

Liz H.

Yelp
Solid three-star rating. Didn't have what I was looking for. I'm not a huge fan of Peet's anyway. Staff were friendly. Homeless right outside. Give them something if you can. Even just a friendly chat can make their day.
google avatar

Roy A.

Yelp
This Peet's has an outdoor seating area or plenty of indoor and upstairs seating. They open at 5am for the folks that start before everybody else. The service was quick and my coffee was fresh.
google avatar

Chris O.

Yelp
LOL at the people who complain about spotty wi-fi and no outlets. Go to a co-working space or Westfield Mall if you need to get work done and let others who actually want to have a conversation with friends stay.
google avatar

Eddie E.

Yelp
This Peets location is very busy during the day. Location is good on Market, hits the spot when you need a Peets. The counters can get messy and needs some attention at times.
google avatar

Carol C.

Yelp
Date: 12/22/2016 Time: 3:42 PM Heading out of the Westfield SF Centre and walking from there to the SF Ferry Building, I came across this Peet's Coffee. Since I was not able to get any orzo salad from the one in Westfield, I stopped in this one, which is about 1/2 block or so easterly of the previous stop on Market Street. My favorite item at any Peet's is the orzo salad, follow by the blueberry scone. Ooh, boy, I am content, very content. They had at least three containers of the orzo salad in their refrigerated case. I grabbed one, went to the barista, paid for my item and thanked him for making my day. There was no waiting in long lines. The transaction was real quick. I was in and out of there in less than 5 minutes. The next time I will know to stop in at this Peet's instead of the one in Westfield. They're more spacious and the selections in the refrigerated case are better.
google avatar

Mei W.

Yelp
Nice Peet's. Right next to Powell Street Bart by Ross Store and across the street from Old Navy. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. There is also a limited upstairs seating too. I saw there r a couple of outlets to charge your cell phone in the seating area downstairs. Nice big ceiling to floor windows to stay cozy while watching everyone go by..
google avatar

Theresa G.

Yelp
Great strong coffee in downtown SF with experienced baristas and quick service even when the line is long. Sit inside or outside seating available. Also bathrooms for it patrons which are hard to find in SF-just ask for the code.
google avatar

My N.

Yelp
I usually am a fan of Peet's but definitely not this location. Please beware that NONE OF THEIR OUTLETS WORK. I only found this out after spending $4.30 on my small vanilla latte and trekking upstairs to the sitting area, testing every outlet, then walking back downstairs and trying the outlets near the front door. I then proceeded to walk up to an employee who confirmed that none of the plugs work. PLEASE be decent business owners and put up signs where noticable so people who are paying customers will know and decide whether they still want to come to this location.
google avatar

Tim P.

Yelp
It's your basic Peet's. Neither exceptionally bad nor good. I've been coming to this location regularly because I came the coffee place that used to be on this spot. My one gripe -- and I share it with Starbuck's -- is that there's no plain chamomile tea available anymore. Mighty Bean had a really good one. I hate fruit flavored with chamomile. It's just me. But the coffee here is predictably strong. The pastry is adequate. And there's always plenty of seating even outdoors. Sometimes smokers take over the outdoor and no one polices that.
google avatar

Molly M.

Yelp
I love Peet's coffee and latte's which is why I am so happy this location became a Peet's after the previous occupants, The Coffee Bean closed. This location is perfect for the working person in a hurry and apparently tourist. I say apparently because this the only location that charges extra for simple syrup because of tourist. They may have changed this though, but you still have to ask for it and the baristas aren't always nice about it. Not a go to destination since there is no parking, but the Powell street bart station is right in front. There are bathrooms and seating upstairs. There are usually homeless sitting outside so I wouldn't sit there.
