Finally made it to Peggy's! I've been wanting to go for over a year and was so excited to finally see that pink & flowery facade before my eyes...not to mention the queue. You will more than likely encounter a line here, just a heads up, that famous store front picture on everyone's Instagram is at least a 10 minute wait.
Luckily, my sister and I arrived before most people would consider cake as an appropriate breakfast, and we were promptly seated outdoors (which we wanted, it was a rare sunny day in London). The service was friendly and prompt, and the menu seemed very appetizing. We ordered the raspberry rose cake, a chocolate cupcake, two macarons (caramel, orange) a babyccino (small hot chocolate),a latte, and two summer berry iced tea's.
Everything was perfectly presented, and met our expectations. Many pictures were taken, many onlookers on the queue glared at us, awaiting their turn, their photo ops.
That's kind of where the perfection ends, though. The satisfaction came from eating with our eyes, but the cakes, macarons, and coffee were honestly quite subpar. The lemon layer cake tasted just fine, but was quite dry (I'm guessing it's because it needs to hold its shape?), my sister said the same of her cupcake although she rather liked the flavor. The macarons were also quite dry and crumbly with large air bubbles. My sister enjoyed her babyccino (but really, you can't mess up a hot chocolate) and my latte was just decorated milk. The two summer berry iced tea's were delicious and refreshing but nothing to write home about.
We really enjoyed our time here, it was a beautiful day, beautiful presentation, beautiful photo op and the flavors were good - but perhaps we're just used to moister cakes? Maybe it's a cultural thing? Regardless, I'd still recommend coming here.
By the way, we heard the table next to us complain about the brownie so maybe avoid that - it didn't look so great, and there are better things on the menu.
