Yelp
Echoing other reviews here, Peking Gourmet Inn is expensive and the quality of food here is most definitely not worth it for the price. They do give you a big portion size, but I would prefer if we cut down the pricing and cut down the quantity. I was here for dinner last Friday with a few others and we found majority of the dishes to be pretty bland and boring.
PEKING DUCK - 79
$79 for peking duck, with peking duck pancakes that tasted old, hoisin sauce, and the whites of a green onion. They do a whole performance with carving the duck and plating. At the end, we didn't even get to keep the leftover meat or duck carcass (I wonder if you have to ask?) and they took it back to the kitchen without asking. The duck was fine, but on the drier side. The skin was not that crispy and more on the greasy/soggy side. This was just OK. I wouldn't come back here for peking duck since it was expensive and it wasn't that good.
GARLIC SPROUTS WITH PORK - 46
This is one of their signature dishes, but I thought it was just OK. The garlic sprouts themselves were fresh and crunchy, but the pork didn't add much value or flavor to the dish. It lacked a lot of "wok hay" flavor which was disappointing.
FOUR-SEASON STRING BEANS - 29
This was fine. Pretty standard string beans stir-fried with onions and sauce. Nothing out of the ordinary, but I can't believe we paid close to $30 for a plate of string beans. You can definitely get something $10 cheaper elsewhere.
JEO-YEN SHRIMP - 49
A couple of my friends really liked the seasoning and texture of the jeo-yen shrimp. Personally, I didn't like the batter they deep fried the shrimp is. The seasoning was fine. I personally wasn't a big fan, unfortunately.
SEAFOOD PAN-FRIED NOODLES - 49
Lots of baby bokchoy, snap peas, king oyster mushroom, scallops, shrimp, mushrooms, etc. The king oyster mushroom was very rubbery and unappetizing. I did enjoy the bokchoy and snap peas though, since it soaked up the flavor of the sauce well. The noodles were not the shape or texture I thought they would be. Normally, it's a thin yellow noodle with a nice crisp and char on the bottom and a gooey, gravy filled top. These noodles were super thick. The dish for the most part was pretty bland. I felt like it could use a bit more seasoning. I ate the most out of this one, but only for the veggies.
The interior of the restaurant screams peak 1990s Chinese restaurant. The decorations are definitely out of style, but somehow still comforting to me since it took me back to my childhood dining experiences as a kid. Unfortunately, the food is not good enough for me to want to come back, and it's very expensive.
