Pel’Meni Dumpling Tzar Review - Capitol Hill - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Let’s say you have this significant other for a few years and everything is so perfect that it feels like you’re living in that post-coital dance sequence from 500 Days of Summer (except with even more Hall and Oates), and the next thing you know you impulse-buy an engagement ring and you’re ready to order that baby name book on Amazon, because it was rated 4.82 stars and you can get it with Prime shipping. Then, they dump you. You trudge along for a while like a burlap sack in the wind, and then you meet someone that looks like your ex, kind of. But you discover that they're boring and no fun at all. And that’s exactly how we feel about Pel Meni Dumpling Tzar. When our favorite Russian dumpling place, Vostok Dumpling House, closed forever, we were devastated. So we crossed our fingers and prayed that Pel Meni could be Vostok’s replacement, making us feel the same kind of way cuddling on the couch with some takeout or eating them in-house with some beers. And we had reason to hope: Pel Meni’s location on Capitol Hill looks like a circus—in a good way. Like if Jekyll & Hyde’s lab were a bar, not a murder den, and also served dumplings. There are light-up letters on the walls, and also skulls. It’s pretty cool. But just like the sad non-replacement for your steady, turns out Pel Meni is also a sad non-replacement for Vostok. We’d have some drinks here amidst the Rocky Horror Picture Show vibes, but that’s it—the restaurant is tiny, the dining crowd seems sleepy, and the dumplings do not stand a chance next to the late Vostok. If you must have some pelmeni in your life, you’ll pretty much have to come here, and there are some dumplings that are decent. But is Pel Meni Dumpling Tzar getting its own choreographed number to "You Make My Dreams Come True"? Nope. It’s getting a sad, introspective Temper Trap montage instead. Food Rundown Beef Dumplings with Bacon-Onion Relish These are probably the best dumplings on the menu. The beef doesn’t taste like nothing, green onion adds a fresh crunch, and bacon heals all pain. It’s not Vostok’s Ivan the Delicious and never will be, but if you’re eating here, this is what you want. Potato Dumplings with “Mac and Cheese” Sauce No. We don’t want to live in a world where there’s a cheese sauce that tastes worse than velveeta. The potato filling needs a giant shake of salt, and we had to monsoon these dumplings in sriracha to consume. And, we definitely did not need cold shredded cheddar on top. Avoid at all costs. The Greek A mountain of chicken dumplings with lemon butter, feta, cucumbers, red onion, Greek olives, tzatziki, and pita bread. Despite us definitely not coming here for a Greek gyro salad with many carbs on top, it’s actually tasty, and the raw vegetables make us feel better about eating boiled dough. Khan These sound pretty good on paper: pork and cabbage dumplings with hoisin sauce, pickled carrot and cabbage, green onions, wasabi sour cream, and wonton strips. But the alarming presence of cinnamon in the dumplings brought us back to our mall food court days when it was okay to eat Panda Express and Cinnabon in the same bite. It isn’t okay anymore." - Aimee Rizzo

Google
Great food, authentic taste, cute dog, chill vibes! Love the Russian-style dumplings. Dessert ones are good too! Never a line here, don't know why this place isn't more popular, the Fremont location is always hopping. Same great taste here!

Google
I absolutely love this place, which is why I spent my lunch break going to the Capitol Hill location. To my disappointment, it was closed. It looks like maybe for good—things were in boxes in there. Google, their website, and Instagram say it’s open and there are no signs anywhere on the doors. Really disappointing. Please post your hours accurately!!

Google
Cool spot in Fremont (shared small business area), with a real Seattle vibe. The food was great. Strong flavors, soft dumpling dough, and awesome sauces. I don't know a lot about Russian food, but these dumplings were super tasty. I'll be back.

Google
I was very excited about this place, the food sounds good, but the presentation for these was pretty terrible - see photo. They are just gnocchis stuffed with tiny meat balls, which was okay but not great. We went on a sunny Saturday afternoon and the place was empty the whole time we were there, and there was only 1 employee who hid in the back the whole time. Weird place, won’t return

The nearby Danbo Ramen had an hour long wait. To fill our bellies we came here on a recommendation from a friend. Let’s start with the positives. Do get the fries when you come here. The fries seemed to be baked and were topped by this delicious curry powder which accentuated the taste of the fries. The dumplings are topped with various seasoning and a creamy yogurt. You gotta stir it all up to get the best flavor out of it. You have two choices for the regular dumplings potato or beef. We opted for the potato dumplings. Do keep in mind that you might be munching on a lot of potatoes if you order the fries as well. I docked a star or two because I got the feeling that one of the servers was mocking me when I asked for two to-go boxes. I wasn’t impressed by that but all in all a good experience if you want to experience traditional Russian food(atleast according to me it’s traditional!)

Google
This review is in regards to the Capital Hill location. Food was OK - nothing special, and actually somewhat expensive (high cost of living in Seattle is likely to blame for that). Ice cream was melted - but it was a long car drive home. Service was OK as well. Overall this establishment is OK. Not great. Not good. Just OK. I probably won't eat here again.

Google
Honestly was expecting to have authentic Russian pelmeni. Growing up, my mom would hand make them her self which was one of my favorite meals. Trying the dumplings from other places, I know what they taste like roughly and have an expectation. The presentation here was great, it looked so good and tasty but in my first bite, my countenance grimaced upon the contact of the overly vinegary-tasting dumpling. I payed 20+ dollars for food that made me feel Ill later In The evening. The older man that was working that evening worsened my friends and I’s feeling of the restaurant and would fully ignore us, have an attitude when I tried to make small talk. Just overly stand offish energy. Won’t be coming back here unfortunately, I really wish I had a different experience since I love Russian food.

Google
This place is amazing! The dumplings are really good. The fries are even better! Good selection of drinks. I will definitely come back. One of the few places that are open late besides pizza restaurants. They didn't have Nutella dumplings, but the apple cinnamon ones did not disappoint at all. Servers were friendly and food was served really fast.

Yelp
Food - the dumplings were all very tasty and they were freshly cooked and garnished which helped. They have vegetarian and vegan options. I tried two smalls because I couldn't decide, but I'm glad I did because I liked both! I would say the classic was better, but sometimes you want potato Mac n cheese. Service - so we have tried to Uber eats here a few times and they were closed until recently, so we went in person to be certain they were open for business. The staff there was very kind and answered our questions and then they cooked all our food up promptly. Ambiance - it's a small space with mostly bar seating and about 3 small tables. No outdoor seating that I saw. Great chill ambiance for a lunch or very casual dinner or snack. We went on a weekday at lunch time for reference. Pretty reasonable for the price and they had water available in a cooler.

Yelp
Pel Meni had a stand at the Seattle Christmas Market, which is where I tried them for the first time, so I don't really know how accurate of a reflection this review would be for their actual physical location. But when I had them at the Christmas Market, I thought they were only okay. Nice and chewy, I think I just wasn't a big fan of the seasoning I had picked, which I remember came with curry powder and red chili. It was suuuper salty, but I did like the texture of the dumplings and appreciated that they weren't super overpriced like a lot of the other Christmas Market options.

Yelp
I start salivating every time I think of the food here it is so good and also if you're local to seattle you'll most likely find their food truck at a lot of different events around the city. Make sure you get extra sour cream on the side and mix it in ;)
google avatar

Ellie L.

Yelp
I've had their pierogis some years back, and I still think of them and crave them. That is how good they are! The prices are good and you will be satisfied. Pierogis are delicious little balls of starch (and meat, potatoes or veggies), and it really sustains you. In my home country these can be found readily, in many flavors. It's good to have a place that serves them freshly-made and just as good as I remember them to be. Ambiance is casual and hole in the wall. You can eat the pierogis on the go.

Yelp
This place has been on my list for a while and I'm so glad their food truck was at pride in the park this weekend. We got the combo beef/potato dumplings with the razorback topping. The dumplings dough was chewy and springy and both the fillings were great. I especially liked the potato ones. The entire container was gone in a flash
google avatar

Ali L.

Yelp
last time we got food to go the dumplings were doughy. The location is good and they have great hot sauces. Love the vegetarian options. Nothing particularly stood out about the service, but it wasn't bad. Good atmosphere for a casual lunch, but could be more comfortable.

Yelp
GREAT place for some unique local bites. I recommend the Razorback or my favorite The Khan. This place is one of those places that make you proud of your local spaces. Solid gold choice for the people by the people.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was "ok" nothing amazing ..We got the loaded with pork and the khan,Unfortunately the worker forgot our order,we were the only ones there at the time and sat outside by the window (we tipped when payin..big mistake apparently wont do that again!) After 18 mins my partner asked the worker & after saying "oh i forgot" they quickly put it together.the website and their instagram claims they have a "happy hour" from 3:30-6pm and 9-11pm but when we asked about it they said they don't do that and the website is out dated‍ idk why they can't update their information but thats ok cause I doubt i'll ever be back.

Yelp
Wow! I can not believe that this place is still open. It's dirty, the staff is unwelcoming, angry and rude. I've actually never had a worst customer service experience. The food was bland at best. The dumplings were rubbery. I asked for vegetarian and was served meat. I had already driven all the way home so it was too lateLuckily I caught it before eating too much. My dog wouldn't even touch the left overs and she eats her own shit. Next time I hit the antique mall I will grab food somewhere else!
google avatar

Yelp
I always love the pelmeni here and the wonderful variations they offer! As a native Russian it's always fun to try a new take on the food you grew up on. We ate here on July 4th, right before the huge fireworks show and the one guy in the kitchen kept up the entire restaurant and bar. He was amazing! We waited for a bit, but not crazy long. Maybe 15 min? Luckily the board games kept us entertained.

Yelp
Oh man, let me tell you, dumplings are like, hands down, one of my absolute favorite things whenever I swing by Juneau or Anchorage during a layover. And I gotta admit, the vibe there might not be what you envision - a bit on the shabby side, you know? But hold up, once you sink your teeth into that grub, holy smokes, it's a whole different story! Like, seriously, it's a guilty pleasure of mine that I just can't resist, even if I'm stuffed to the brim. I always make it a point to bring some back home and warm 'em up, 'cause truth be told, they taste just as amazing.

KellyGneitingJr

Yelp
I got the bacon razor back that shit tasted like shit no fucking lie and omg the smell have you ever smelled rotten eggs it was worse then that dont even waste your time. However if you get the mac and cheese i bet that shit buss but if you get the razorback the bacon do not taste like bacon it taste like dog shit not worth $17 and the container was small as shit fuck i look like a chihuahua hell naw.
google avatar

Darcy H.

Yelp
Much here to like. Good beer selection, okay vegan/vegetarian options (could use 1-2 more), fun atmosphere. But I don't get why it's an order-at-the-window joint with table service prices. Even the tip options offer "20%" in the middle, with the opportunity to tip HIGHER. huh? For so much DIY tips should be 15% maximum.
google avatar

Wendi K.

Yelp
MMMMMM I was not expecting this place to be so good!! Tried the Razorback ($10 for a regular size) and the Greek ($11 for a small). The bacon onion relish was really something and the tzatziki was rich and creamy and complemented the dumplings perfectly. The dumplings are small but dense and doughy. I found the portion sizes to be perfect. We called to take out and our food was ready in 20ish minutes. The interior looks cool! There was a hair in the food (lol) but oh well.

Yelp
Been to the bellingham location often during my college years. Thought i should try the seattle location out. Totally different vibe, cleaner and fancier, and more sophisticated flavors. This place has more options too. I always like to get both beef and potato but for this Classic one i loved it with just beef. But also, its russian dumplings. Its just sooo good and juicyy. Looking forward to try all of their flavors hehe

Yelp
Never had Pel Meni before, but very glad I tried! You order at the counter, and you can ask for a pickle! I ordered a small traditional potato dumpling. I was surprised at how small it was. I'd definitely recommend getting at least a medium, but I really enjoyed the taste of them!
google avatar

Jun Li Z.

Yelp
Ordered the Khaan pork dumplings with scallions. This was delicious save for the sauce which was, to me, quite salty to the point where I didn't want any of it on my dumplings. It was too much for me. My gf and I also shared the traditional potato dumplings with dill on it. It was yummy. I would come here again if I was in the mood; I wasn't particularly impressed. This place is great for snacking and to chill with a friend or two. The place isn't too big so it's more of a grab a bite and go kind of thing.
google avatar

Paulina H.

Yelp
Went to this place on Halloween night around 1:30am, it was not busy at all, and there are only a couple people. I love this place and couldn't stop craving for more! I ordered traditional and classic, beef and potato! I couldn't pick which one I like more, because I like them equally, the classic one has red sauce and curry powder, so much flavor and the traditional one is bland and light. You eat with sour cream so it added extra flavor. The only thing I dislike is too much water in it but that doesn't bother me too much, I think they should add a little more salt at least for the potato and beef. The bathroom in cap hill one is kinda creep if you go in late, because it's in a theater and they might turn off all the lights. Food: 9/10 Environment:10/10 Service: 10/10
google avatar

Thessa V.

Yelp
Love this place and there should be more joints like this! It's low key, open late but delicious and perfectly portioned. Must try all the flavors if you can! Nicholas was a really good guy who took care of us when we stopped late night and also gave us some great Seattle recommendations for additional sight seeing!

Joe M.

Yelp
Terrible food!! The guy cooking has his dog in there with him in the kitchen. Please.. I beg of all the ppl to avoid this establishment, it's not worth your time or money!! Dump-lings aren't good at all, tastes like rubber or plastic!! It's literally pure poop !!
google avatar

Emalee B.

Yelp
Food is fantastic. Don't let the front desk defer you from how good their food taste. Always recommend the classic dumplings. I'd like to point out the younger cook who every-time I am here, he is working hard taking orders and running the food. Cheers to that guy and his dumplings
google avatar

Jordan J.

Yelp
Got the Potato Dumpling Entree Classic with Vegan Sour Cream. Several vegan options. Really nice staff. Casual, sit down or to go. Quick and kind service. I've had the carrot salad before and it is amazing, sells out quick sometimes. You can bring food next door to Rachel's ginger beer too
google avatar

Nicole Y.

Yelp
Wow what a giant rip off! I don't know if it's uber eats or the restaurant but the restaurant is responsible non the less for knowing what their customers are paying for the food they order. I paid $25 and that was after I used my free delivery coupon, the $1 off promo and selected the slow delivery for -$1 more; for a few dumplings, a salad and a drink. I got the most tiniest microscopic meal, it's insulting. Not only that but it was missing the bread that is supposed to come with it. Honestly, I've ordered from here before and I could've sworn it was like double this amount of dumplings. Oh and I also paid $3 extra for the regular size as opposed to a small. What a scam, this probably cost $7 to make. If that. I don't mind paying extra for delivery but if I'm going to be paying a fifty percent markup I at least expect a full portion. Ugh. So bummed.

Roy S.

Yelp
Hours of operation is incorrect. Called the restaurant no one answers. Not cool having your customers walk to you closed restaurant.

Yelp
This Pel'Meni is conveniently located in the building that houses 12th Avenue Arts, where I love to see plays. I have been meaning to check this one out as I have been to the one in Fremont and love it there! Last week I was finally able to have dinner here before a performance next door. I had the black bean, sour cream, and spicy jalapeños special potato dumpling bowl and was not disappointed. It was a bit on the spicy side so it was hard to eat when it was fresh out of the kitchen hot in temperature - but there's nothing like fresh hot pel'meni's! Seating in this space is very limited so it may be wise to carry out here. There are probably 3 tables in addition to the bar seating of 6? spaces. They offer a good local selection of microbrews and a cold water station to cool down after spicy d

Yelp
When in doubt, go find dumplings. It doesn't matter, Xiao Long Bao soup dumplings or Russian dumplings because just any tasty dumplings will give you the answer to the meaning of life. Russian dumplings is a little bit more difficult to find so when I'm around this area, I make sure to not pass the opportunity. It's just awesome that this spot stays open until 2:30am daily for night owls like myself. This is a cute little local spot with a small bar and a couple table for seating. I usually just do take out, but sometimes I want to eat my dumplings fresh and hot, right then and there so it's nice that there's places to sit and eat for something so simple. There's many options on the menu, but I've only tried the Classic which is sour cream, curry powder, cilantro. You can choose between beef, potato fillings, or a mixture of both. A regular size hit the stop for me, but maybe large if you're extra hungry or want to share a snack with a partner in crime. Tzar is located on 12th, it's a less crowded part of Capitol Hill where there's easier parking, but I actually have to drive if I want to get Russian dumplings after I'm done partying in Capitol Hill, but it's definitely worth it! There's always a big debate between hot dogs or dumplings at the end of night. Tell me about your experience if you've been here or is going to after reading this review:)

Yelp
Awesome dumplings!!! Try the potato dumplings classic style, it's the perfect hangover meal!

Yelp
Im not too sure what to expect here. I just ended up being really disappointed by this place. Its probably a good snack if you're drunk (pretty much any food in the area would be), but its really not that good. Flavor is a bit bland and basic. We tried the beef, potato, classic and razorback. Also, we walked into the bar/restaurant and literally got ignored. They looked at us and even made eye contact and didn't say one word. There was no one else in the shop. The next group that came in was greeted with happiness and smiles. I literally had to walk up to them to get their attention. I don't know any of the workers and have never met them. I don't see the reason why they would completely ignore us. Honestly, a wasted meal. Really wish I spent my money elsewhere. I've had similar homemade dumplings from one of my friends and they were much better.

Yelp
5 stars may sound generous, this restaurant is connected with the one in Bellingham. Prices reflect being in Seattle pauper but the food itself reminds me of a nice bowl of rice porridge/congee/chao/jook. Don't go here expecting Din Tai Fung or Dough Zone. Go here expecting comfort food that taste great sober, drunk, high or what have you. Goes down easy, comes out fresh, warm, and tasty. I typically go with the traditional. The other flavors are good, but something about the humble meat and or potatoes really hits the spot. They moved to their own brick and mortar as they previously shared a space with a tattoo shop. Staff are nice, parking is generally plentiful, and it's in the heart of Fremont. Everything around it as well as rent is crazy, but you can definitely count on Russian Dumplings (as I call it) to hold true.
google avatar

Caroline M.

Yelp
Good, not amazing. I ordered three flavors: classic, traditional and Khan. Husband and I split them. Classic was our favorite- the curry flavors with a little vinegar added some kick. With the traditional, the dill was overpowering but evened out with sour cream. The khan was my least favorite. Something about it tasted... off, the meat in the middle didn't taste very fresh. The flavors are unique, but overall there was a lack of freshness. I will probably come back when I have a hankering for them, but it won't be often. Think I may try dumplings somewhere else first.
google avatar

Yelp
So this Russian dumpling place was next to the hostel where I was staying. Every time I left or came back, I would see this yellow sign with a red star. I love dumplings and I guess I was curious what a Russian dumpling was. They were open late, so my eating partner and I dropped in for some late night munchies. We decided to share a small size of the regular dumplings. It came with a slice of bread and a dollop of sour cream. I don't know why but it took a long time for the dumplings to be ready. There were maybe 2-3 orders ahead of ours. I guess they also had to do online orders as well, but the guy had two cauldrons of water boiling at the same time. The verdict on these dumplings is that they are not that bad. The sauce is interesting; I guess I'm used to simple soy sauce and vinegar. They are bite-sized and kinda cute. I'm not sure I would go out of my way to get this again, but for something that seemed sketchy at first, it didn't turn out so badly!

Yelp
Open late - last call for liquor is at 2:30AM Ah-mazing dumplings! Hearty and savory, the zing from the vinegar that they finish it off with is muy finito! So good! This place also offers a variety of infused house made liquor which pairs so well with the dumplings, and the great thing is this place is open late! Can't beat that!
google avatar

Yelp
I came across their food truck at Folk Life and KNEW I had to find their restaurant and sit down for a full experience. LORD who doesn't love Russian dumplings?? Food: I shared the classic Vareniki Fries (potato- cheese dumplings fried and topped with chili spices) a small order of the Classic (sour cream, butter, curry, tzar red sauce and cilantro) and the Razorback (bacon- onion relish with sour cream, butter and green onion). Obviously I had to go innnn on the red wine vinegar too ;). Both orders were a small but we couldn't even finish them! For $8/ piece- it's an attractive deal, especially for Seattle. I will say there was a little too much seasoning for my taste on the fries but I just dusted them off a bit, better to have that then for them to be bland! Every bite is just so lovely. Little dip in the vinegar, little dip in the sour cream. Ugh it's so freaking good! Atmosphere: it's v small so don't plan on coming with a group. Good for a date or 2-3 friends. There is limited seating at their cute bar and a few high tops and a table or two. Breezy and open for sunshine to come in. I'd like to come back to sit at the bar and enjoy some of their cocktails- the menu looked great! Service: this is one of those "order at the counter and they'll bring it to you" kind of places which I normally don't love because you don't really get to interact with a server. But not here! Jack came out with each part of our order, told us what was what, explained the sauces, checked in etc. Their setup really works because no matter how good a place's food is, how instagram-worthy the decor is, it all comes down to the staff. And Jack is an excellent team member to have at the front of the house. I will certainly be back for the dumplings and stay for the hospitality! Note: can we just talk about how when Jack brought us to-go boxes they were reusable, plastic snapware?!? People pay for this stuff! I am so happy to be able to reuse this! Nice touch, guys!! 11/10 would recommend. Can't wait to come back for more cocktails and 926 more dumplings! Thanks Jack!

Yelp
I was actually surprised by how good the food was. I also live the location. There is a ginger beer place next door with the best Moscow mules for an after dinner treat. But back to the dumplings. I had 2 different kinds both with meat and potatoes, so 4 total. No complaints and we will for sure be back soon. Such a great deal for happy hour as well. How could u not love this place. Highly recommended for a cheap but cute date.

Yelp
Best drunk food around. Multiple flavors to pick from. Small dine in area but main focus is take out. Favorite flavors are traditional and Mac and cheese.

Yelp
I ordered through here on Yelp which uses Grubhub for delivery services... I had ordered both the beef dumplings with mac and cheese and the beef dumplings with potato combo but there were no potatoes with that order. The portions were unfairly small for the prices ($14.50 and $15.50 which was $33.03 after taxes). I decided to keep the to go tupperware boxes they used for the food since I had paid that much for so little food. At least I could get regular use out of the plastic boxes and they tight seal well. The taste was average but not horrible. I just again, expected better for the price... I ended up picking up my order right at closing as the Yelp app had not notified me that my order was ready about a half hour BEFORE they were closing. So the dumplings were cold and clumpy by then... I refreshed them with my own seasonings at home and made the most of it. I had only intended to try this place once anyway and still don't intend to try again. The cook was nice when handing me the food though! Seemed like a chill hippie!

Yelp
Disclaimer: I'm not Russian, so I have no idea how authentic this place is. It doesn't taste amazing, but I guess it's a nice "experience" if you don't really eat Eastern European food. I tried two different flavors: the khan and the original. The khan leans toward more Asian flavored, with filling that's similar to what you'd expect in Asian dumplings, but also is paired with a sweet, tangy sauce that's typical of Americanized Chinese food. The original comes with potato and beef fillings, which were both pretty good. You can choose your fillings. There's not much seating, but it also doesn't get too busy. It's a fun and nice place to eat if you want to deviate from the typical fare available in cap hill, but definitely not a place I'd stop by often.

Yelp
What' a tasty surprise!! These were delicious. I walked by while looking for food and almost didn't go in because no one was inside. I soon noticed they had a lot of people picking up and taking home,. When my dumplings came out, they were so new and delicious to me.
google avatar

Yelp
Great little comfort food spot if you love European food. Only one guy running the joint at the time so patience is a must. My wife is Russian and highly approved of the pelmeni here. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Yesterday I ended up eating a early dinner around 5pm so when 10pm came around I was hungry again and wanted to go somewhere that would've too pricey and not too filling. I decided to go get Russian Dumplings . Now for those who don't know me I went to college in Bellingham and there is a famous late night spot that served Russian Dumplings so these are nostalgic. I ended up walking into Pel'Meni and there was no one there at 10:30-11pm. There was a full bar, it ended up being Happy Hour so 5 dollars for 5 Dumplings. I ordered 1 potato and 1 beef order. Both of these I got Classic which comes with a spicy curry. These were so delicious and reminded me of the ones I ate in Bellingham. They were so good and I ate them so quick I had to do another order to go. The person serving us was pretty friendly made back because the place was so dead but I was tempted to get a drink at the bar but had already had enough to drink for the day. I highly recommend this place on a night after bar hopping on Cap Hill to end your night with some delicious Russian Dumplings.

Yelp
This is my current fave place to eat in Seattle. The potato dumplings classic style with the curry sauce are amazing! Fast service every time, super nice staff. I moved out of Seattle but anytime I'm back in town this is where I go. If it's open, this place is my top pick!! Can't say enough good things!

Yelp
These pelminis were not even in the slightest comparable to a Tzar. With a mighty name such as this, I expected more...much much more! Maybe I should start on a few of their positive attributes...super cute location, the place itself is a cute full bar..and that's unfortunately where it ends. We walked in (3 of us), with one other person waiting for their take out to deliver. We were not greeted and we had to wave them down. Never asked if we have been here or explain the menu or their special. Btw, you cannot mix your pelminis..and there isnt much of choice beef or potato.. We explained we will be right back to get an RGB. Came back and it didn't even seem like they were cooking. Pelminis is dump in water and put sauce on it? These things shouldn't take long to make, except for the fries cause you actually have to fry it. We just sat there...no explanation, no apologies of why the food is taking so long. The food all came out at different times, that doesn't bother me..but the fact that it takes more than 45 minutes and then it is just swimming in oil and the cheese not emulsified is just gross. You may as well drink oil (see photos). This wasn't just the mac and cheese that my cousin got, but in every single dish! The "fries" were the only acceptable thing. For the price that they charge, do yourself a favour and eat elsewhere...totally not worth it...still boggles my mind why it has 4 stars. Will not be coming back!

Yelp
My experience at this place was interesting. Dumplings are more like appetizer here although you can order them in bigger portion. We went for dinner so we ordered 4 different types: classic, razorback, greek, and fries. I really like the classic, fried, and razorback, but NOT the greek. It was cold and tough and tasteless (the filling). I got a glass of cabernet which was fine but my friend's vodka cocktail was weird and terrible. I think it's good to try this place if you want to grab drinks and a side of dumpling, but not to have the whole dinner.

Yelp
Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov Lennon is alive and well on Capital Hill's dining experience. Frank's found this small sample of the Kremlin good life at the Bite of Seattle and enjoyed there goodies for last 2 years. I sampled the dumplings and wondered where the F@@K is this place. And today I found it, praise the lord! These wonder dumplings make me wanna turn in my Obama Youth card and head to mother Russia for a bowl of the real stuff but then i woke up and said its cheaper to have them in Seattle... Now Frank chooses to keep it simple, I ate the classic beef dumplings made with butter, curry , red chili sauce , rice wine vinegar, sour cream and cilantro. Why you ask cause if it's good enough for the CZAR's than is prefect for FRANK.. Well, these micro balls of flavor just burst out with multi flavors so pinpointing one great thing about them is impossible. Your mouth will spin for hours on them flavor juices. My advice is grab a large order and either a pint of local brew or one of the many hand crafted specialty cocktails they offer with your meal. Frank defiantly gives a 5 star double thumbs up review of the bistro.

Yelp
Stellar dumplings, sweet staff, stiff drinks, and no fuss & no rush establishment. It equates for a great dining experience. He told us "razorback" (sour cream, bacon, chives) is the most popular of the bunch, so we ordered that onto our 'mix' (half potato half beef). They have a spice rack for you to top your dumplings, so douse or compliment them. Dumplings weren't too doughy and the beef really was filled in there. Potato was chewy and great. Bathroom is in the back of the theater, ask for the 4 digit #.

Yelp
I stopped by Pel'Meni when I was looking for a relatively quick and light meal around Capitol Hill. Even though it was relatively early in the evening and I was actually the only one in the store at that time (..although more people started coming in later after I started eating), the lady at the counter was really friendly and didn't make me feel weird for ordering just something small and wanting just sit, relax and dine there instead of doing a take out. The lady at the bar was actually nice and friendly. She gave me some quick intro on the menu/HH offering, and left me with sufficient time to decide what to order. I decided to try a regular classic beef dumplings...and, oh boy...the small wait of 5-10 minutes were so worth it. The dumplings came out with right hot temperature and the curry spice on those dumplings along with a dab of source cream tasted so nice and refreshing! Although the bread that came with it was just ok and not as memorable (it was complimentary, so I won't complain!), what I loved was that the dumplings didn't seem to be as oily or mushy as other Russian dumping places I had tried at all. The portion size was right. It wasn't too small despite being just $8 either! With such great service, good value and awesome tasting dumplings, I will definitely stop by Pel'Meni again. Next time, it will just be difficult for me to decide what I want to try...hmm...classic dumplings? :)~ traditional dumplings? :)~ or other types? ...decision...decision...

Yelp
First time trying Russian dumplings! It's a cool place to eat at, but we ordered take out. These dumplings were still good even when they are cold.

Yelp
I feel like this place is only famous for the catchy marketing and branding. And being in Fremont. The pelmeni themselves are the same quality as boiled dumplings from a cheap Chinese takeout. But more expensive. Nothing special here.

Yelp
I've gone here many times, both through online (Yelp) orders and in person. I've hesitated to place a review for this location since I live so conveniently close, but I've accepted that I'm done with this place. Each time I've been here, I've received an attitude from the person taking my order. I've dealt with various bartenders and staff members, but it's been a pattern. They've all been dismissive and rude towards me. I've always felt extremely unwelcomed once I walked in. Well that sums up the atmosphere of the restaurant. As for the food, it's mediocre. Not healthy, and tastes like it. Come here if you want something greasy and basic bar-like with dumplings. In general, come for the meh food, not for the staff nor atmosphere.
