10 Excellent Business Lunch Destinations in Houston - Eater Houston

"The “executive” lunch menu at the South African steak and seafood chain includes dishes like its beloved beef bobotie, curry chicken, and a solid burger. For dessert, the restaurant’s sticky toffee pudding is a seriously sweet finish." - Megha McSwain

We went to celebrate our 10 anniversary, and it was our first time at this place. We were greeted with a complementary champagne form Steve. Social distancing and precautions are in high measurement, and temperature were taken upon arrival. The mall door is closed, so the entry is only from the patio side. Our waiter was very friendly, professional and patient. He recommended to us actually everything we had ordered, and he wasn’t wrong. Food was so good. I loved the shrimp skewer, and the Mac and cheese lobster is a must.

Highly recommended! I've been to Peli Peli a couple of times, and the food was delicious every time. My personal favorite is the Cape Malay Crab Curry. The crab tastes fresh, and the meat was plentiful and easy to remove although it can get a little messy because of the curry. Coat the crustacean meat with creamy curry sauce - a synchronized explosion of flavors/spices in your mouth. I recommend getting the peppadew slaw as a side. The tangy mango and sourness of the lemon help reduce the creamy fattiness while the cabbage, seeds, and cranberries diversify the texture by adding a bit of a crunch. To top it off - great customer service. Anyways, words can't fully paint the picture, so just go and experience the food for yourself.

Jerry our server was AWESOME. Everything we had was well seasoned and flavorful. Good ambiance, definitely a good place for a date or special occasion celebration. I didn't have any wine, but I did look and they have a good wine selection.

I read about Peli Peli on multiple portals, blogs, Instagram and read reviews and I was super excited to be here. It's located in the Galleria mall and finding a self-parking spot is very difficult during busy hours. You can reserve the a table online and that's highly recommended. Ambience- I felt a little congested inside the restaurant. The roof had some light arrangements which gave me headache. The tables are very close to each other and the ambience is very noisy. Service - unfortunately, it was upsetting for us, though I read people had amazing service. The manager gave us a table of our choice but things weren't good after that. The server greeted us with no interest and was very "strict" to us that we were honestly scared to ask her any questions. They were not good to us and we were extremely uspet with the service. The experience after this was not so good... Food - the peli Peli chicken wings were very good. I definitely liked them and thought of ordering them again. Next, we ordered the chicken espetada and it looked amazing. We got the chimichurri sauce and the peli Peli sauce with rice. We also tried the South African curry with was very creamy and so delicious. Overall, it was a very okay experience.

You can eat South African food without leaving Houston, Texas. I've been to Peli Peli for Brunch several times and the food is always awesome. Today, I tried lunch and it was excellent. It came with two courses as part of Houston Restaurant Weeks. First, I had the bacon wrapped chicken. The bacon was crisp and cooked to perfection, which is great because many times some places don't always cook the bacon through. This bacon was cooked and crisp. I also had the flavors of South Africa steak trio in a butter sauce with potatoes and spinach. I tried the Cape Cod Cucumber Martini. It's excellent. The service is always good and the staff makes it a point to greet you when you walk in the door. I also love that the restaurant has a nice salt scrub to use in the bathroom while you wash your hand. It's an excellent end to your dining experience.

Great spot for birthdays and celebrations. The food had some unexpected flavors, everything was delicious and well prepared. The staff were all friendly and provided great service. While everything is "open" from a required-precautions perspective, there is an ongoing pandemic and incomplete population vaccination, so I was surprised and a bit disappointed that no staff were wearing masks in the indoor dining space that was reasonably busy - if you are being cautious about COVID exposure, you may prefer the take-out/delivery options.

Great service with knowledgeable staff. Ambiance was good too. Food was pretty delicious and unique. The dishes tasted like Indian inspired South African food. The samosas will probably my favorite dish of the night. The hint of Indian spices and the crust of the samosa were exquisite. The bobotie for my taste was a little too sweet, it was a bit overpowering, however the crust of the bobotie was flaky airy and superb. The ground beef at the bottom of the bobotie was not seasoned well enough and was nearly absent in the overall flavor of the dish. The kingklip fish was very tasty tender and flavorful. My favorite entree was probably the chicken curry rice which was very well seasoned, and not too spicy to make it taste like an Indian dish, with the pulled chicken to provide that South African flare. Lamb chops were also quite tasty as well. For the desserts the sticky toffee pudding and the chocolate mousse cake were both decadent and delicious. The creme brulee was a very different take on the original, and I can't say I appreciated it. This restaurant is definitely worth a try especially if you've never had South African food before. Will probably give it 7.5 - 8 out of 10.

We've been wanting to try Peli Peli for a while, but just hadn't had the chance to stop in. I'm so glad we finally did today because the food was delicious and the service was wonderful. The food was perfectly seasoned and cooked; and the portions were generous. We did their HRW dinner special and could only finish half the entrees and had to take the desserts to go. I'd definitely recommend the bobotie, bunny chow, and espatada. Mac, our server, was awesome - friendly and attentive. You can't ask for more. We'll definitely be back.
