Best Restaurants in Marin County | Eater SF

"Hear ye! Hear ye! Gather around the wood-stoked fire at this Tudor-style inn and restaurant near Muir Beach, which hews to a retro-country feel with dark wood interiors brightened with candles and, begrudgingly, electric light. Beef Wellington and shepherd’s pie make regular appearances on the menu and fans stop by for pints of English ale, a shandy, or the house specialty of lager and lime. There’s even tea called Sherwood Forest, served by the pot." - Christina Mueller

Stayed here 1 night on our California road trip from England. Quaint old English pub which reminded me of home, with old wooden beams, that subdued lighting and open fires. The snug for guests staying was beautiful, cosy and warm. Got the open fire on which was toasty. Friendly staff, good food and English ales. Great rural location to explore Muir beach, the surrounding hills in peace and quiet. Only downside is that more lights in the dining area are needed ad reading the menu by candle light might enhance the atmosphere but in my opinion not required. Great outdoor seating area and gardens. Try the pub or pop in for a pint.

I had my bachelorette party there and Andrea, the Inn coordinator, was an incredible person to work with. The communication leading up to the even was easy. The dinner was so much fun and she really made it feel special. We stayed the night and had so much fun. They were hospitable and warm. The food was great as well. If you want a cozy date spot or a fun quasi-private party, this is the spot!

Great experience this weekend! The inn is fun and romantic! Small but comfortable rooms. The food was delicious and the service great. The beach is a short walk away .The only problem was that they left the music on in the bar and restaurant and we could hear it all night long. Surely, that doesn't happen every night and mistakes happen. We will be back!

We LOVED our stay at the Pelican Inn! The host Chelsea and our server Kelly were so welcoming and kind. We loved the old English tavern aesthetic it was so cozy in there with the fog rolling in! It's nearness to Muir woods made it such a no brainer stay during our road trip. The food was so excellent as well. I loved the candle lit dinner with a delicious chicken soup and shepherds pie. Would stay here again or highly recommend it to anyone.

Food was amazing. True English fare. I had the pasties, friends had bangers and mash and liver and onions. All excellently cooked and delicious. Cider was great. Lemonade great. Ambiance is wonderful. Patio was beautiful with hanging vines and old tables. Inside was old pub feel with wooden table and candlelight. Don't miss out on this place if visiting mt tam or muir woods. Service was excellent couldn't ask for better.

We stopped here for lunch. Gorgeous Inn, felt like we were in England. Food was served quickly and it was good. Ordered the sticky toffee pudding and was surprised that we were charged $2.50 for ice-cream. We were not told that was extra we thought it came with it. Other than that enjoyed eating lunch here. .

I hadn’t been to The Pelican Inn for 10 years and decided to stop in for a pint and a bit to eat. We went to the bar and ordered our food, but getting a seat was impossible. We went outside and there was no seating, only sitting in the wet grass. Finally waited for a table in the bar and our food came. What a disappointment. One glass of wine, 1 beer, 1/2 a dozen oysters and a Shepherd's Pie all for $71 before tip. The food was completely inedible. The oysters tasted off and the Shepherd’s Pie tasted like canned stew with some cheddar cheese on top. No flavor of any meat in the dish. Both of use took two bits and it was so gross we had to leave the food and walk out. What used to be a great pub in the old days, has gone to the dogs.

Stopped in for lunch while Sunday driving Coastal Rt1. Pelican Inn is the PERFECT English pub. Food and drinks were classics and service was super friendly. Couldn't recommend it more.

Yelp
Came in mid-week for a late dinner for the first time since I was a kid, I'm so glad I did! Probably the best Bangers N Mash dish I've ever had. Wonderful candlelit + fireside ambience, pretty fairly priced as well. Will definitely be returning!

Yelp
Cozy and charming restaurant. You feel like you're at a small village inn somewhere in England. It's a great little lunch and close to the city. Worth a visit! Will definitely be back for dinner! Fish and chips were tasty but not as crispy as you'd expect. Bangers and mash was solid.

Yelp
A Storybook Escape with Gourmet Comfort Food & Stellar Service! Tucked just minutes from the redwoods of Muir Woods and the Pacific coast, The Pelican Inn is a slice of old England transported straight into Marin County. Walking through its ivy-covered entrance feels like stepping into a Shakespearean dream--with low timbered ceilings, candle-lit dining rooms, and cozy nooks that beg you to stay for hours. But let's talk food--because WOW. This isn't your average pub fare. This is gourmet English comfort food at its finest. The Shepherd's Pie was rich, savory perfection, with tender meat and vegetables swimming under a cloud of golden mashed potatoes. I've had this dish in the UK and I'm telling you--The Pelican's version wins. And don't even get me started on the apple crisp--crunchy, warm, spiced just right, and served with melting vanilla ice cream. We literally scraped the bowl clean. And while the ambiance and food were 10/10, the heart of our experience was Chelsea, the incredible hotel manager. She was beyond accommodating, helping us with everything from hiking tips to getting our room just right, and even surprising us with a little treat at check out. Her warmth and genuine care made our stay unforgettable. You don't often find service this thoughtful--Chelsea made us feel like family. Whether you're coming for a romantic weekend, post-hike meal, or just need an escape from the city, The Pelican Inn is magic. We'll be back--again and again oh and ps : thanks for the room upgrade! Yelp
We went here at the beginning of the month for our anniversary. It was such a sweet cozy place. What a dream. The rooms are adorable. Food is good and the location is beyond with the beach, zen gardens etc. We stayed in room 7!

Yelp
We stumbled upon this quaint Inn on the road to Muir Beach. It was so fascinating to find an old English style restaurant and pub in the middle of the secluded roads and exclusive homes on Mount Tam. Walking into the restaurant was like walking back in time - quaint wooden interiors and creaking wooden floors amidst period decor. We sat by the fireplace and it it was the most romantic experience ever! The server were professional and attentive. We had the English sausages, peas and mash as well as the chicken curry generously portioned with vegetables and rice. It was delicious - my English husband could not have been more pleased! Highly recommended!

Yelp
The best little stop on your way to the beach! They have the best fish & chips and pot pie! We love to get a beer and play some darts while waiting, or just chill on the lawn. It's such a magical little spot.

Yelp
We got married here and that in itself was an amazing experience. That being said... We came back for our one year anniversary and stayed in the same room we stayed when we got married. There are a few things that get under my skin quickly: no front desk staff, and no one answered the phone when we called multiple times. I also know, because one of the other patrons complained to the staff about the same things, "I've called 20 times and one one picks up the phone!". This is an ongoing issue as we experienced this last year too. There's no concierge or bell service. If there is, I certainly don't know about it. We ate here at the restaurant and we did enjoy the food... the issue? No service. We had to seat ourselves, find the menus and get our own silverware (but of course as previously stated there was no host/hostess at the front desk). Sooo, we sat ourselves.. and no one came. No one came to ask if we needed anything, water, etc. So I go up to the bar. No one's there. Eventually someone showed up and I found out that they were "understaffed" and of course they talking to me aggressively as they were in a hurry. First of all, yeah, anyone with eye balls can tell you're understaffed. Second, I'm the patron; I don't need to know your operating issues or to be talked to any other way but hospitably because y'all are understaffed. Case and point the place needs to be managed better. Do better. It's not a good look when you can't get a call through, empty front desk, empty bar, no server... Its disappointing, it's lazy, and we probably won't be back because of it.

Yelp
Came here after a nearly 8 mile hike. Much needed pit stop. Got the ginger mule and my partner got a hazy ipa. We were lucky to find seating. It was quite busy for the long weekend. Cool vibes, very pub like. Recommend for a fun spot

Yelp
Food was extremely bland and not fresh. The waitress is very nice. It is down the street from the beach.

Yelp
I'll preface with this: there was private event going on outside, and we understood that it might affect service. The sign at the entry said to order at the bar and seat yourself, so we did that. This meant waiting for several minutes while the bartender didn't even acknowledge us. We waited patiently and understood they were prioritizing the event but it was a little strange to not even be told "we'll be right with you" while waiting. While we ordered, we asked what hot teas they had (the menu only states that they have a selection), and the bartender just didn't answer although they were actively waiting for the rest of our order. The dining room was pretty full, so our only seating option was at the end of a long table that was already occupied. The table next to us was loud and they kept leaving to smoke weed out front. I understand that this isn't necessarily something the restaurant can change, but it affected our experience. Although the table may be vintage, it's not comfortable. It was also sticky. We ordered bangers and mash, the ploughmans lunch, bread and butter, and a hot chocolate. The sausage was good and the frozen peas were tasty. The ploughmans lunch turned out to be a salad, which was not made clear at all in the menu. If we had known it would be a salad, we would have ordered something else. The hot chocolate was warm at best, and very obviously made with water and just enough swiss miss make it look brown, instead of the rich double chocolate that was advertised. Also, for all the high prices, we were surprised about some of the low quality details. The bread itself was acceptable sourdough but for $8, the butter was just a handful of foil wrapped butter pats and the condiments were in paper cups. This completely removed the illusion of the old English inn and made what was supposed to be a nice dinner feel cheap and thoughtless. At least give me some nice butter spread for $8 bread. Everything combined left us really disappointed. If any of it could be attributed to the private event, then it might be in the dining room's best interest to close down or limit its service, instead of being spread thin or cutting corners that aren't reflective of the reputation or the prices.

Yelp
Such nice people! The curvey roads got the best of my kiddo, and we pulled in panicking and with a vomit ridden child and car. The front desk lady brought us paper towels, cleaning spray, bags for dirty laundry and trash, and let my son get cleaned up. We didn't stay there this time, but will in the future!

Yelp
Another great hidden gem!! I did not know about this place - but my friend did. You order at the bar and they bring the food to you. Man - I wish I had ordered the bangers and mash which looked spectacular -. I got the french dip - which was good, but 2 improvements would have made it great - the option of blue cheese substitution, and a richer broth. My friend had the ploughman's lunch - which NOTE is really just a salad. We ate on the back patio. Would happily go back!

Yelp
The atmosphere is great and gives you incredibly high expectations. The font and prices on the menu also contribute to raising your expectations. Then, you place your order and your expectations are crushed faster than watching the sequel to the Airplane movie. The cheese plate is store bought crackers served with a few tiny cheese squares and some honey in a paper cup. The oysters are what comes up in a dictionary when you search mediocre. The French fries are bland and the sandwich is just fine - not worth $21. The desserts come with the world's smallest scoop of ice cream, have tiny portions,

Yelp
$10 chips in a fake British pub with no class and bad service. Won't be back, well maybe for their wifi. I emailed Pelican Inn months ago about whether I could park at the pub prior to doing a sponsored hike for a British cancer charity to end at the pub for food... No reply. My other half contacted them on their social media... No reply. We parked there anyway, had a lovely hike down the mountain, and thought we should at least get a drink there afterwards. They do nothing vegan. The female owner/bar manager screamed abuse at the kitchen staff in Spanish while we were ordering, but barely made eye contact with us. This is my fault for not truly trusting how badly reviewed their food is, but wow they somehow managed not to fry chips properly and had the gall to charge $10 for half a plate (see photo). Also no fresh condiments. Glad I didn't try anything else. Honestly, it doesn't even look British and I'm from there. It's like some mock Tudor shell hung over a Victorian house. Its garden with views of Dias Ridge is admittedly pretty gorgeous though, and probably its main selling point. Oh and you'll probably overhear a variety of loud British expats clinging onto their heritage. What a wasted opportunity to be an actual inn for all the passersby.

Yelp
"Red sky at night, sailors delight. Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning." The Pelican makes me imagine what an old English public house along the coast would have looked like in the something something hundreds. Cold, dark, and damp surroundings. Rusty and probably not sanitized tools all around. Venturing in to warm yourself by the fire, with a hefty pint of stour to warm the bones. The Pelican Inn is one of those staples of the North, North Bay. that you have to visit at least once. After a fresh swim session at Muir Beach, or meandering hike along the coastal trails, a stop at The Pelican Inn is the period and exclamation point at the end or either. The usual pub fare is on the menu, Fish & Chips, burgers, and salads but the English staples kick up the menu with Shepherds Pie, Bangers & Mash, and Beef Wellington to name a few. Plenty of beers, ales and stout on tap to quench your thirst or warm your belly. A pour of Guinness is always a favorite when the fog roles in. Depending on the season, there is ample space outside to sit on the grass or one of the benches available. If you are looking for table seating head inside. The space is cozy with all the charm of a bygone era in England. While i do prefer sitting outside, the Inn itself is very beautiful, so check out the inside. The details in design decor are awesome. While I have not myself, you can also stay overnight. A unique option for those exploring the California coastline. There is a very, very small parking lot. More parking is available on the street. Cheers!

Yelp
We just happened upon this place after visiting Muir Woods, and so happy we did. Stopped in for a few refreshments and found a quaint cottage near the beach. Would love to go back and stay a few nights. We met and talked with our server who was friendly and offered great suggestions of nearby places to visit.

Yelp
This place was recommended to by a friend as we were having a day trip. They don't open until 12 and there was a line outside. The staff was not that friendly when we entered. It was confusing if we sat ourselves or ordered at the bar - the entire process wasn't well executed. We just walked in and were handed menus. Finally, we were informed that we seat ourselves and a server comes to us. You do have to grab your own water. The lighting and decor is cool. The best thing we enjoyed was the Shepards Pie (not pictured) it was very cheesy and had good flavors. The oysters were decent sized for the price. The fish and chips was your typical. Bread pudding was served hot and was a nice sweet treat. Also, the bathrooms were squeaky clean which is a touch. Probably would order to go next time and not dine in. Although, it was an experience.

Yelp
A little taste of home. Good ale and good food with a great beer garden and friendly staff. 'Nuff said!

Yelp
Recently stayed at the Pelican and had a fantastic time (as usual). The main difference I felt with this stay was the service - much improved since the last few times I went.

Jimmy J.

Yelp
2nd time here, once might have been a fluke. Do NOT bother with this place unless you want a beer. Other than the old english feel, there's nothing to recommend. Food's terrible and very expensive. Not a full bar, only beer and wine, the staff is, let's just say . . . Not English. So let's break it down for you. 5 Stars, Ambiance . . . cool legit feel. 1 Star . . . Ordered a black and tan as they don't serve liquor. She used the Guinness Spoon upside down?? WTF? I don't mean the correct upside down either, it was like pouring guinness into a spoon. If you don't know how to use the spoon they give you . . . don't serve guiness. yeesh. 0 Stars Food - 8 oz fish and chips = 3 oz fish and 5 oz batter yuck. Thick cut fries NOT Crispy/undercooked & 1 tablespoon of frozen peas heated up (not english mushy peas, not fresh peas. $22. Then there is the $21 Shepherds pie. Decent flavor but mostly gravy and carrots, heavy on the cheese and potatoes, def not authentic and very small portion. 0 Stars - Value for the money spent. Don't waste your time here.

Opal P.

Yelp
I love the pelican inn so much! I have been coming here for as long as I can remember. Everything is so beautiful and gives off good vibes. This is where I instantly come when i want to get bangers and mash. I think their food and services are getting better every time. And one of the best things about the pelican inn is that you DON'T NEED A RESERVATION! You can sit inside or outside and you can walk up the road and see the beach

Yelp
Great place! Great food and quality beer and very cute spot to stop at and take a breather

Yelp
We just stayed at the Pelican Inn over the weekend, and had a great experience! We had stopped at the pub in the past, and loved the feel of an authentic British pub-so wanted to try a stay. We loved our cozy room and all the charming touches (a book is provided in the room with some interesting history). We hiked to the beautiful beach during the day and then enjoyed listening to live music in the pub, having a candlelit dinner, and relaxing in the private parlor (snug) after with a fire going. Food was really good and highlights were the toffee sticky pudding and the included British breakfast-provided by an attentive and very personable server Carlos. We hope to stay there again soon.

Yelp
Called 4 times this morning about an reservation cancellation I gor a text for this morning. Bad service amd were not even there yet.
google avatar

Pamela R.

Yelp
Don't bother! Other than the very old furnishings and architecture, there's nothing to recommend this "restaurant" when they are using the bar for service. A $21. roast beef sandwich for dipping consisted of a doughy bun and a single slice of fatty, grizzly roast beef. The dipping sauce as well as the included fries were all cold. No table service; it's an "order at the bar", find a seat and have your meal delivered without any care. No condiments on the table. No inquiry as to whether we needed anything. The only positive was that the room is so small that trips to and from the bar for essentials were short.
google avatar

Fiona W.

Yelp
Unfortunate experience. I ordered the Shepherd's Pie with my friend. The customer service was pretty odd. We waited 20 minute to order with only two people in front of us. The Shepherd's Pie was extremely small for an unreasonable price. The bread and butter cost $8 which was pretty surprising. Overall, it was an overpriced, cranky atmosphere. It reminded me of iPad kids and a British cult meeting.
google avatar

Tj S.

Yelp
Cute rustic order-at-the-bar inn where ambiance is magically rustic and antiquated. Good place to stop in for a pint and take in the cozy vibes and good conversation amongst friends. Definitely will be back to try the food!
google avatar

Yelp
Love coming here after a hike or run along the beach with my dog. Always excellent service. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. The food is great "pub grub" and having a bite to eat and a beer on the lawn is an absolute delight. There are dog water bowls, benches, lots of space, and great vibes. If you want a proper English meal, the dining rooms are great and the entrees offer something for everyone from Shepherd's pie to liver and onion to vegan.

Erin A.

Yelp
We stumbled across this gem on a chilly, foggy February after a day of hiking in Muir Woods. The dining room was full and seemed to be reservation only (we were here around 2 pm on a Sunday). We didn't eat there but they had a fire going and it seemed cozy. Instead, we got two pints at the bar, which was English-pub themed. The food was decent. We split the fish and chips and cheese plate. It was prompt, though the bar is open seating and you order at the bar. Overall, it's a great stop while in the area for a pint and a snack.

Maureen H.

Yelp
Visited about 2 weeks ago for lunch with my family. The server appeared irritated and rushed for us to order. There were other groups at the bar. We were asked to order at the bar and pay up front. The other 2 parties were told to seat themselves and order at the table. During service we were openly ignored , as we watched the servers ask the other 2 tables if everything was OK. We did not feel welcomed. The food was ok,but the lack of service was not. Likely will not return again.

Yelp
Idyllic setting, brutal food, impossible service. The no beef, beef stew was just awful. Fish n chips ok. Bangers not good. 1 employee for the entire place at dinner. Super fun historic interior, but thats it. JUST FIX THE FOOD.
google avatar

Todd A.

Yelp
Where to begin?? Was here in the past and it was delightful. This time: cold, dark, virtually no service, and $60 for two salads and ginger ales. Their idea of a Ploughman's Lunch was 2 slices of sandwich bread and a salad with a few pieces of cubed cheese, one hard-boiled egg and 3 tiny cocktail onions--for $22. Hugely disappointing; won't be returning.

Yelp
A gorgeous sunny day, hiked one of the many paths near Muir Beach. Hungry & thirsty, we came to the Pelican Inn for a drink and bite to eat. Lovely Tudor building w/ inside and outside patio dining. We sat in the back atrium patio section, which gave us some shade while enjoying the outdoor views. Also saw people sitting on the front lawn, picnic style, ordering food from menu. Nice option. Weekends get pretty crowded. The earlier you get there, the better! (Opens at 11:00am) The front sign reads "order first at the bar, then be seated". Line was VERY long at the bar. After ordering, we sat down, noticed people ordering from menu at their table with server. Seemed this could have been done as well. Menu reflects typical British Pub fare. SAVORY TART - creamy endive, beech mushroom and watercress. Basically a fancy mushroom soup in a small flaky tart shell. Not what I expected, but admit my first spoonful was flavorful. Felt it was a little too small for the price. FISH & CHIPS - happy with this dish! Cod dipped in batter, deep fried to a light crisp. Served with thick cut fries. SIDE SALAD - pretty straight forward spring lettuce with diced apples, grapes, and vinaigrette dressing. The food wsn't off the charts, but solidly good. It's more about the whole experience--enjoying a drink and meal with friends, surrounded by the beauty of the beach and rolling hills!

Yelp
We checked out this cute spot after visiting Muir Beach. It was the perfect place to grab some grub after a very intense hike. They have a variety of wine and spirits to choose from and lots of food options. I went with the classic fish and chips (without the peas) and it was pretty satisfying. However, it was a bit pricey for just two pieces of fish. The interior is super dark, but they have a patio area with pretty flowers that brings in lots of light. I would check it out!

Yelp
Pelican Inn is one of our favorite spots. Yes the food is overpriced but it's a novelty experience. The inn is beautiful. We usually picnic on the grass and enjoy our meal with a beer. We keep coming back and likely won't stop unless it closes which would be a tragedy.

Lori Ann M.

Yelp
I love going to Muir Beach and stopping off at The Pelican Inn for lunch. They have indoor and patio seating. They also have a beautiful lawn area out front if you prefer to sit and eat picnic style. I indulged myself and had the fish and chips last visit and it was delicious!

Yelp
As one of the previous reviews said "don't do it" - I foolishly didn't read the yelp reviews and went by word of mouth. In full disclosure: I'm a Brit and felt like I needed a little taste of the country lane pub (like The Bell in Sapperton, in the Cotswolds, I wish.) You know it's fake, but there's something here that you so want to believe is authentic. And, they do have Speckled Hen on tap. But yes, it is all an illusion. You are wittingly being suckered into it. Please, if you've never been to the UK (or don't care), ignore this posting and believe it is real - you truly will be in a tudor oak beamed pub, down a country lane, and the sun is shining. However, the reality of it all comes crashing down when you receive the "Ploughman's Lunch" (listed under "Classics" in the menu.) The great man that ploughs the fields of ye olde England deserves a hearty nourishing board that represents the bounty of the great farms of the fine old country. This great farmer shall not deserve a salad with a few crumbs of cheese drizzled with French dressing and a side of ginger chutney. Firstly, "drizzling" is reserved only as a British weather description. Secondly, we would never combine anything "French" with the fine produce of the great British farm. Thirdly, he who toils deserves a generous dollop of Branston pickle. A little confused, I asked the waiter if the said dish was indeed the classic PL and not a salad - the response was "it's our style." Clearly. To be objective: The Ploughman's lunch is not a salad, if it were a salad, please list it on the menu under "Salad" - do NOT list it under "Classics" - the Pelican Inn's PL is definitively NOT a classic British Ploughman's lunch. Anyway, if it were a salad, one should not expect the salad to contain wilted and decaying salad leaves mixed among other fresh leafy greens. Horrible, horrible, horrible. The service: if you can find the waiter, is tardy, lack luster and indifferent. This is not a cheery British country pub. DO have a pint and enjoy the garden. DON'T eat at the Pelican Inn. (If you're British, bring sandwiches, eat in the car like it's raining, or enjoy everything else this beautiful area has to offer.)

Yelp
Enjoyed my stay at Pelican Inn. If you like quirky, older bed and breakfast places this might be for you. More of an easy going relaxed vibe. Reserved parking for guests. 7 rooms upstairs (no elevator). Built in late 1970s as a 16th century English inn. Low doorways, high beds, keyed doors. Has drinks on tap as well as bottles. Menu has some English type foods as well as vegetarian options. Some hikers, some guests, residents stopping in for a drink or a meal. Check in via side door if staffed. Otherwise, the bartender may also be waiting tables and checking in people. Breakfast was water, orange juice, tea or coffee, banger, eggs, toast with marmalade and fruit. Lunch is order at the bar and seat yourself. Dinner had someone seating people. Real candles and fireplace going on Saturday night. Walk to Muir Beach is pretty easy/close. Can walk to Muir Woods on the Redwood Creek Trail, but it is a much much longer walk. Stayed in Room 1 which was good size and had a couple chairs and vintage couch. Bathroom was clean, but older like shower and everything worked but don't look too closely at grout. Some idiots carved their initials on the beam in the room (possibly same as people who carved into tree in forest. Don't be the idiot lemming that graffiti's on stuff and walks off trail).

The food was nothing special, and it was so dark inside it nearly put me to sleep in the middle of the day. I get what they're going for, but it didn't really land with me. I wouldn't go back.

Yelp
A decent spot for some grub if you're looking for somewhere to eat near Muir Beach. My friend and I stopped here for lunch after hiking up to Pirate's Cove and we had a decent experience. We actually ended up taking our food to the beach since the inside was closed due to COVID and the lawn area was super packed. During COVID, you wait in a socially distant line and order your food from outside at the window. The line was a bit long when we got there, but we expected this since there's no other convenient choice for food near the beach. Service at the ordering counter was great! Even with the line, the staff was very helpful. They've got a pretty nice tap list here as well. We both ordered the fish and chips since people seemed to be raving about it. This place is on the pricey side, but what beachside restaurant isn't nowadays? The restrooms definitely need some work. Not sure how the inside looks since I didn't go in the dining room, but that bathroom could probably use an upgrade or two. The lawn is actually pretty spacious and dogs are allowed, but it was just too many people for us to be around during COVID. We walked back to the beach and had our food there. Now about those fish and chips; definitely pretty average. I was surprised at how small the pieces of fish were for the price. The batter was decent, the flavor was okay, and the fish seemed somewhat flakey. It just wasn't anything worth raving about. Of course, they piled on the steak fries like no other, but they were pretty dry. By the time we made it to the beach, the ketchup had spilled in our containers. I was so upset because these fries NEEDED some damn ketchup. I was hangry so they got eaten anyways. I'd be willing to try something different off of their menu. Since there isn't any other choice of restaurant near Muir Beach, I probably would come back here at some point. But, I'd most likely just bring my own picnic instead.

Yelp
A big shoutout to the crew who served us on the night of October 16, 2023. The food and service were phenomenal and the ambiance of the restaurant was sweet and romantic with the candle lights and fireplace. Our wedding party had a great time!

Yelp
English comfort food in a quaint and cozy Hobbit-like Inn set in the natural splendor of Muir Beach and surrounding trails. They've got a great selection of English ales, ciders, and local brews on tap and the staff is friendly and helpful. We always end up here after a run or hike and never regret it.

Yelp
Great little lunch spot after hiking in John Meir Forrest. Bangers and mash were spot on. Loved the atmosphere and the staff were very nice.

Yelp
I love this place. I have eaten well and stayed overnight, enjoying the snug room as a guest. I sometimes wish they could be a little better, less skimpy for the price. The beds really aren't comfortable. However when you are here the atmosphere is amazing. It's an adorable pub and you feel like you're in the UK. It's conveniently located and the food really does hit the spot. Shepherds pie and beet salad are my favorites. Love a old speckled hen now and again too. It's worth coming here, though at times you're like jee are they understaffed, are they really able to give this place all the care it deserves?

Yelp
The most magical place to get married! Our son and brand new daughter-in-love took their vows on the lawn at this beautiful, charming, comfortable authentic Old English Inn & Pub. Our families rented all 7 rooms which made it feel like home away from home. Coordination for our event was friendly and easy going. The food was delicious. The service was amazing and the elegant charm of the table place setting, flowers and candles took your breath away. The Pelican Inn is an especially loved place by our kids who wanted to share that love with family & friends by holding their wedding here. If you're looking for a small, quaint, impressionable wedding, or, simply looking to stop in for a beer and some delightful English fare, be sure to check out The Pelican Inn. And, it's right at Muir Beach!

Yelp
Loved my lunch here! The setting is so iconic and romantic with a fire in the hearth and candlelight on each table. We had fish and chips and a beer, which was perfect after a morning of work. Would love to come back again. We had the place to to ourselves which made it intimate.

Yelp
Having been going to The Peli for 30+ years on a very regular basis, we'd moved and come back after 8 years to a very non-knowledgeable bar staff, here thanks where's the tip attitude and no one at all representing a British style pub with a flair for what the Pelican in Muir Beach is known for. Staffing? Ta lost its flare for fun side plates ordered w a few pints and whiskey. Need to step it up please!!
