Yelp
I wasn't really planning on writing a review of this because I didn't think ordering a side of Peli cheese balls would have been enough for a shop that specializes in Korean Fried Chicken. But if the service and cheese balls are any indication of how good their chicken really is, I'm definitely down to try!
As soon as I came in, an employee greeted me and offered to help even though he was bussing the tables. Since it was mostly empty inside, he stopped what he was doing and took my order.
I had a Fivestars reward for cheese balls, which I've always wanted to try because one of my Yelp friends raved about them, and I've been trying to avoid fried chicken until I can get my health numbers back in the right direction.
I don't know if that employee was new to Fivestars, but he needed help from a female co-worker, perhaps the manager on duty at the time. She was quite pleasant too in ringing me up, and they both made the overall atmosphere pretty welcoming that if I had ordered a full chicken dinner, I would have loved to dine inside. Since I had a jam-packed day that day, I took the cheese balls to go.
I was also offered a cup of water even though I never asked for one. Now that's service!
The wait was between 5 and 10 minutes for the cheese balls, which was a little longer than I expected, so I definitely appreciated the complimentary cup of water. I also immersed myself in the scenery, which looked to be Korean-themed with KPOP music playing inside.
The cheese balls weren't as good as what my Yelp friend(s) made it out to be, but that's because I was expecting something a little different. I was expecting something like liquid gold oozing out of each ball with every bite I took, but what I actually got was a mochi-like texture inside. It was still good, but at $9 for just five is a bit pricey.
I would have given 4 stars just because of that price point, but with how great service was, I decided to bump my rating up to 5 stars. Next time I'm craving a cheat meal, I'm definitely going to consider this chicken shop at City Plaza on the southwest corner of South and Pioneer. Hopefully Fivestars will give me a nice deal sooner rather than later!
