Went on a Friday around lunch time, wasn't too busy, service was helpful and friendly. We had the cheese balls so yummy, an order of ddukbokki, which hit the spot and is perfect for dipping your perfectly crispy chicken. We had an order of crispy chicken half with the garlic sauce and it was delicious. 🤤😋 Will definitely come back and try other sauces and sides.

Hot chili wings were good. Garlic wings were actually nasty. Wings themselves aren’t that crispy. Chicken is nice and tender. 90 degree weather and no A/C. The place was so hot inside.

You are paying for the quality. This is the best fried chicken I've ever had, we got the half and half, their honey mustard is delicious. Every single piece of chicken was PERFECT and they have Mango Cart on tap! I forgot to take a picture of the food, it was that good...

Amazing fried chicken with a Korean twist! They have fried and and even more fried (crispy) version, 3 or 4 sauces ranging from mild to hot damn - and a plethora of sides including fries, rice, mozzarella sticks etc. Didnt like the shaken fries because the parmasean was strong.

We got the soy whole chicken with honey mustard sauce and hot spicy sauce and it was delicious. I would recommend it for anyone who enjoys chicken and wants to try something new.

I love Pelicana as a local chicken restaurant. The ugly sandwiches are super tasty and the turn around time on orders is very quick. This is for the most part a take out restaurant, with a very convenient parking right out front.

By far the best fried chicken I've ever had. Always walked by this place, til Yelp finally gave me a glimpse at the magic that's going on inside. Their chicken is fresh and they change their oil daily. Add to that their happy hour til 6pm and you got one of my favorite local restaurants The garlic chicken is my go to, sweet and savory...is a must. Grab yourself some cheeseball appetizers and a cold draft beer...heaven.

My first time here, came on a random Tuesday evening and my friend and I had the whole dining room to ourselves. Lots of options, but the waitress was great about talking through the menu, and sharing most popular dishes/sauces, and also her favorites. She also split the leftovers into containers for us both to take some home which was much appreciated! We went with the crispy, and did banban (half with and without sauce), smoky hot sauce -- it was spicy, but I preferred the non-sauced crispy ones. We also got the fish soup was hit the spot given the cooler weather. There was also a complimentary cold cabbage appetizer with creamy dressing, and pickled radish banchan. I wouldn't make a special trip out for it, but overall, the food was good, service was great.

TIP: Free soda with Yelp check in. First visit. Stopped in on a cold, rainy evening and found a very crowded, compact parking lot...beware! The restaurant itself is a decent size, clean, and the staff was friendly. The service was good, however the wait time on the food was longer than a "fast food" restaurant, in case you want to run in and out. We were fine with a slight wait, as we were dining in. FOOD: We ordered the Crispy Fried Chicken with choice of sauces (Cheese $18.99, which was a dry powder, and Smokey Hot $18.99, which was spicy), along with a side of French Fries ($6), and a side of Cheese Sticks ($8). The fries came out first and were hot, crispy shoestring style, and darn good. The cheese sticks came out next and had a marinara dipping sauce, which was cold, rather than hot like other places. The chicken was cooked properly and had good flavor, maybe a little spicier than we would have liked, but that's a lesson learned. Overall, a good experience and would probably stop in again, when in the area.

I like their chicken close enough for korean fried chicken. They serve alcohol too, soju and beer too. Service ain't bad either. Ambiance is ok, its not loud like most korean chicken places. I dont know why they close down last June. I thought they will reopen on August. Now, I have to go to Artesia if i want Korean fried chicken. I never like any American chicken because it's too salty for me.

I have been craving Korean chicken wings and figured this place would be a great location to satisfy my desire and I was right. I started out with the Original Ban Ban wings where half are original fried and half are with sauce and I ordered the original sauce. Both were very good, and I actually liked the taste of the ones with sauce, but they are extremely messy to eat and I practically needed a new napkin with every bite. Because I don't live in the area and was with some friends, I also ordered the Crispy Fried Wings that are described as double fried and honestly, these were perfect for me and would be my go to order the next time I am near a Pelicana Chicken. Service was great, restraint was clean, and the soju was even tasty. If you want the real deal Korean fried chicken, this is the place to go.

I really wish they let you choose half sauce and half regular for the crispy whole chicken but I could only do one or the other. I opted for the crispy chicken with no sauce which means it's double-fried with an extra layer of batter. The chicken was juicy but I wouldn't say it was extra crispy comparing it to other Korean fried chicken I've had. What I was genuinely surprised by were the twisted donuts. It resembled churros but the texture was mochi-like. It was extremely stretchy and absolutely delicious. I wasn't even craving anything sweet but I couldn't help myself. The peli cheese balls are made with a sweet batter, very similar to that of the twisted donuts. I'm sure they're both made with tapioca starch because of how chewy it is. It's stuffed with mozzarella cheese so every bite is a balance of sweet and savory. There's plenty of indoor seating and it's a very open space that seems good for groups. There weren't many customers when I went so the service was also quick and efficient.

By far, the best Korean fried chicken in the area. This specific location is in a Downey plaza next to multiple different restaurants, it's a good spot to hangout or meet up with friends/family. The service is always fairly quick and the waiters always make sure you have everything you need. The food is insanely good and never lacks flavor. I definitely recommend giving it a try.

I'm so happy I finally got to try this place. Me and my family came in last night for dinner. The place was clean and we were seated right away since there were few customers. Thanks to our server who went through the menu with us. She recommended a few things to us also which was greatly appreciated. We ordered the crispy signature chicken and a side combo with fries and peli cheese balls. The sides came in first, the fries where pretty ordinary but the peli cheese balls were delicious! Chicken came out a few minutes later and we devoured it, the signature sauce is a sticky sweet sauce with the lightest spice at the end, delicious! There were no leftovers, the service was great and food was amazing.

Our first time here and everything was pretty good. We were gonna get a whole chicken for the two of us but the waitress was nice enough to mention it was for 6 people lol. We opted for the half chicken but expected half original with half sauce, we chose (special). the tray came with everything in special sauce chicken so we didn't get to try the chicken without sauce. We will probably just order sauce on the side to avoid this in the future. Sauce is good, chicken is moist, and the size is very reasonable for the price. I probably wouldn't get the fried cheese sticks again because it is like the frozen ones you would purchase from h mart but still pretty good. The shaken fries are good and reminiscent of potato corner at the mall. I definitely prefer this place over bb.q chicken and will come back again to try some of the other flavors.

The sauce had a honey-like texture without being excessively sweet. As you chew and swallow, you can experience a journey of different flavors. The fries are served plain, but they are greatly enhanced by ketchup or the signature sauce. Finally, the salad is a light and crispy side dish that is neither bland nor boring. My boyfriend ordered the garlic sauce wings. The wings are double-fried to achieve a satisfying crunch, although I personally found my chicken to be even crispier. The garlic sauce had a robust flavor (7/10), but it was slightly overpowering for our taste preferences. Nevertheless, they were still enjoyable. [Ambiance] We visited on a Saturday afternoon and found the restaurant to be quite empty, which resulted in quicker service. The establishment is remarkably clean. If you choose to dine in, you will be provided with a small stainless steel trash can to conveniently dispose of your waste. [Overall] In conclusion, this restaurant is an excellent choice for a satisfying meal.

I really wish I can give this place 5 stars and find a new spot for lunch but it's been twice already that it's been an unpleasant experience. I was excited to have Pelicana close to home, I've tried the one in Buena Park and it's absolutely delicious. This one was not the same, first time I went at 5:01 I tried ordering the pelicana chicken sandwich but the servers said it is a lunch item only and lunch is over at 5, which I don't understand why it's only a lunch item but okay. I left and came back another day. I was on time to order the sandwich. The service was no good. I was not greeted at all and asked if I was there to order to go or in. I ordered the sandwich, waited about 20mins then received it and took a bite into only to realize it was raw. It was very disappointing bc it is actually a very delicious meal but for some reason this location has not been a good experience for me.

My third Pelicana Chicken WITHIN A WEEK! (And I didn't even know this location existed!) Now, Korean fried chicken is my favorite food of all time, don't get me wrong, but this fried chicken CHAIN knows how to be consistent throughout all their locations. Service was bomb, food was even more bomb. The chicken is ALWAYS juicy, flavorful and you literally can't go wrong with their signature or soy sauce with their whole chicken. Undefeated. Oh, and order their chicken gizzards. The only thing different about this location as compared to other locations is that they have a slightly different menu and this location offers combos.

Grabbed some food here yesterday. I'm on the hunt for new wing spots in the area so I decided to stop by here. I'll start off with the positives, the chicken is delicious and the must have if u come here! Prices are fair and the wings aren't skimpy in meat or flavor. Unfortunately for the sides I got, that's where the negatives kick in. The fries are overpriced for what u get and are ok. The peli cheese balls were horrible and the cheese on the inside was rubbery. Workers there are nice though as they were quick with my order. Maybe I'll come back just for the wings.

I had a Fivestars reward for a certain percentage off my order at Pelicana Chicken, but for whatever reason, it was only for the Downey location. Since there were a couple places nearby I wanted to visit, I decided to use my Fivestars reward and see if the chicken really lived up to the hype. Now I've heard the hype about their Peli Cheese Balls, but I think it's rather foolish to be writing a review of a chicken shop when you don't even try their chicken, right? Maybe on a future visit, I'll see how good their cheese balls really are, but unfortunately, on this visit, I was underwhelmed with the chicken that I got. The Downey Pelicana Chicken is located in Downey Gateway on the southwest corner of Firestone and Downey. There are a lot of businesses in the area that it has a downtown-ish feel, but there's plenty of parking in the immediate lot. However, the lot is pretty narrow that if you have a really wide car, you need to be really careful and not hit a parked car on either side; one slight turn in either direction could result in a fender bender. When I arrived, I saw a menu by the front door. Since I came at lunchtime on a weekend, I saw their lunch specials, and they only had two. One was a Chibob at $13, and the other was a Crispy Chicken Wrap at $9. The Chibob didn't sound that appealing to me, but a Crispy Chicken Wrap sounded like the perfect snack to munch on! Once I entered, I didn't see anyone behind the order counter, but I saw the same menu there. However, on that menu, I noticed the lunch specials only ran from Monday through Friday, something I overlooked when I saw the menu at the front window. Once I realized this, the cashier (Valeria?) popped out of nowhere and was ready to take my order. I asked if the lunch specials would still apply on a weekend, and she said she could make it work. Yay! Otherwise, I would have had to pay ~$20 for a half chicken or 9-piece wings. ~$10 more for twice of each amount. Since I was business hopping like crazy that day, I definitely didn't want that much chicken! When I checked in on Yelp, I noticed a Yelp check-in offer for a free fountain drink, and Valeria was happy to honor that. It was a pretty small cup that I believe is usually worth ~$2, but it definitely felt like even more savings. Whoo hoo! After placing my order, I asked Valeria how long I'd have to wait. I would have guessed 10 minutes, especially since there were only a few other customers dining in, but to my surprise, she said about 20. Good thing I asked because I used about half that time to explore the surrounding area and see what other businesses were nearby. After those 20 minutes passed, I saw Valeria bagging up a takeout order, and she was going to the bar at the rear end of the restaurant to fetch me my Diet Coke. Seems kind of odd that the customer can't get it for himself/herself, but I do appreciate how she made sure I got a full cup of soda rather than half soda, half bubbles. In my takeout bag, she also included four packets of ketchup, which seemed rather odd considering a wrap also comes with homemade salsa, but as I learned the hard way, even adding ketchup wouldn't give the chicken the flavor I desired. I suppose when you order a wrap, you're not allowed to choose the flavor, which Pelicana has a handful of, but that shouldn't mean the chicken is overcooked to the point of being dry and not juicy like how Korean Fried Chicken should be. That better not be the reason why it takes 20 minutes to prepare a chicken wrap that was underwhelming and definitely not worth waiting for. I was expecting the chicken to at least be as good as nearby Crimson Coward, but perhaps that is a foolish comparison on my part as it didn't even come close. The edges of the tortilla used to wrap the chicken and spring mix were a little burnt, and the rest of the tortilla just didn't make the wrap taste any better. Even though I got a nice deal on my wrap and complimentary drink, I'm sad to say I did get what I paid for. I used two packs of ketchup, but even that didn't elevate the flavor profile. Perhaps the Peli Cheese Balls would have been better, but as it stands, I'm giving the wrap 2.5 stars, rounding up to a 3 since Valeria provided good enough service that giving 2 stars would have been a disservice. However, I was in a pretty sour mood at the time of my visit, and the lackluster wrap didn't make it any better. TLDR: This chicken shop on Downey in Downey was a downer. I'm willing to give their chicken a second try, but definitely not in the form of a crispy chicken wrap.

Wow, best chicken sandwiches here for lunch special. Good price and large portion for the sandwich + fries. The chicken was super juicy and sandwich had a ton of fresh veggies in it. Only downside was the fries were cold but beer was cold and good too. Good service.

Good spot for KFC - Korean fried chicken! Their boneless wings (half crispy with sauce = ($18) are real good. For some stupid reason I decided to try the original sauce. Bad mistake because I really liked Pelicana Chicken's hot sauce. Not a fan of the cabbage salad ($2) because the dressing taste like Miracle Whip. Their sweet potato fries ($9) were good. I placed a takeout order on GrubHub on 7/10/22. It took longer than anticipated but everything came out piping hot. Dodgers baseball on one tv. Korean pop music videos on another. And lastly, Guardians of the Galaxy on yet another flatscreen. Parking at the Downey Gateway plaza is free, yet, the spaces and aisles are all small. Only reason why I would not go here on a regular basis..

I would definitely recommend you go and not order to go. The wings aren't as crispy but I like that Downey has a Korean fried chicken spot. The food came packed nicely no complaints. I think the flavor and quality are great overall.

So this is a 2-in-1 rating, from 2 different experienced. First visit is a hard -1 if it was possible. Came in on my work lunch, place had just opened in Downey maybe about a couple months or so. My order was taken, I was not advised there would be any delays, just the standard 15min wait as its fresh KFC(Korean Fried Chicken). 30 min went by I asked about my order, staff apologized and said would be right out. 45 min I asked again, they said they are short staffed and orders are backed up. So basically they were prioritizing Delivery orders over in-store customers. Finally asked for a refund and a Manager. No MG on site but was given a name. MG reached out to me after I Karen'd haha MG apologized and offered a free Dokkbokki, iam like bro I already ate not going back just for that. Second Visit 5 star: Phone order for pick up, no delays, no issues. Got the Original with their traditional/house sauce sooo yummy so fresh. Def trying something out next time.

The place wasn't packed on a 430pm Sunday. Plenty of room, big, spacious, nice atmosphere, chill vibez, slow service, understaffed, one waitress, good cheese balls, good onion rings, AMAZING chicken wings. Will definitely come back again. The restroom is clean. My brother and I also had a Sapporo, a green soju, a Diet Coke, and two waters. The food came out before the drinks. But the wings are fire!!!! Super spicy and crispy. Delicious!!!

This restaurant is inviting, spacious and has a nice outdoor patio that accepts dogs! We went on a weekday in the early evening and were the only people there. We asked about the menu and found it a bit confusing. I wanted to try as much as I could so we got the Peli fries (dusted with sweet cheese powder), twisted donuts (Mochi like churros dusted with cinnamon), and crispy half and half with garlic sauce. The regular chicken was dry in some places, and a bit moist in some places. The pieces in garlic sauce were sweet and garlic spicy. Overall I wasn't a fan of the chicken. The two of us only had three pieces between us and we were done. We took the rest home but still haven't touched it. I was expecting the chicken to have more flavor. It said it was marinated but I think they meant coated, as the chicken was not marinated. I really wanted to like this place but sadly the chicken didn't impress me.

Been here twice and cannot stop recommending it to people!! The service is amazing. The waiters always check in on you and make sure you are getting everything you need. We also came as a group of 6 and they split the checks so easily. They are very accommodating and that is so appreciated at restaurants. The food is incredible. The chicken is so crispy and so are the fries! I've had the original with the sauce on the side and the garlic. It's always so fresh and warm. Also the portions are HUGE. The appetizers are amazing. It was my first time having dukboki and I'm officially a fan!! The peli-cheese balls were also so great. It has a sweet undertone that is unlike anywhere else. The location is perfect. There is so much around downtown Downey that makes this the perfect spot to dine. Overall, this place is wonderful. It doesn't get crowded, there's cool kpop music playing in the background, and the ambience is very relaxed.

The chicken was flavorless without the sauce. The chicken was low quality and had only about 30% meat on it, the other 70% was flour. The sauce was way too sweet and ginger had consumed all other flavors. Avoid at all cost.

I swear pelicana has the BEST Korean fried chicken in the area. It's a good place to go watch a game with some good food. There's plenty of seating and we usually get seated right away. As for the food, everything we order is bomb. The only thing we wouldn't order again are the shaken fries but other than that everything is a 10/10.

Food- excellent! The chicken is so crispy yet juicy and tender. The service- great!! I was craving Korean fried chicken so decided to stop by here! The smoking hot says it's one flame but it deserves 2-3 flames because holy smokes it was spicy LOL (and I love spicy food!) the sauce was really good and is unique compared to other Korean fried chicken places. They have a combo menu so we ordered the 1/2 crunchy chicken which came with 2 fountain drinks so it's perfect for date night couples! There's only one person working but he was attentive and checked up on us a few times while we ate. The food came out p quick would high recommend! They have multiple locations as well.

Tried this place for the first time and they had no wings and apparently no cheese for those Peli Shaken Fries so we got regular fries but they had no seasoning and just bland. We ordered the signature original chicken and get some drum sticks with blood inside and my son finds a hair in his piece. When we told the male who I'm not if he was the manager or owner he tried to say it was the hair from the chicken a chickens hair is not a long black strand. He did offer 10% off but I know we will not be back to this place. We all got stomach aches later in the evening.

I found this place on Yelp and decided to try it. Let me just say, I will be back! First of all the boneless wings are huge and definitely loved the extra crispy version. They have a good selection of beer and a great happy hour price. I tried the signature sauce and the soy sauce. I plan to try garlic and Smokey hot next time. You can only choose one flavor of sauce per order but not a deal breaker. The place is casual dining but they do come and take your order at the table. The staff was super friendly and took their time to answer my nosey questions, hence how I found out about the cabbage salad. I found out when you dine in you can ask for cabbage salad which I loved. Also don't forget to ask for pickled radish cubes as well. They have a good amount of seating at this location.

I finally got to try the chicken at this place. For my personal preference , the signature sauce was over drenched and so was the garlic sauce. It almost overpowered the texture of the chicken, but the flavor was delicious. The fries were crispy and served warm. We waited for a while, service was slow even though the restaurant did not seem busy.

REVIEW IS FOR DELIVERY! Pelicana's fried chicken travels veryyy well. I think it may be because their to-go box has an opening at the top to allow venting so the chicken arrives super crispy and tender! My go to order is the whole CRISPY fried chicken with soy sauce flavor and an extra order of large pickled radish ($2 extra). The whole chicken comes with a large pickled radish but I always order extra so my hubby and I can each have one bc lord knows I ain't sharing my radish. Best flavor IMO is the Soy Sauce. It's got a kick to it but not too spicy based on my Korean spiciness level scale. If you want the super fried chicken, be sure to order the CRISPY chicken! I once made the mistake of ordering the original (NOT crispy) and I was severely disappointed... The reason why I docked a star is because some of the pieces of chicken may lack sauce. However, I was able to dip those pieces in the bit of extra sauce sitting at the bottom of the box. All good!

First time here & it was amazing!! I got the chicken sandwich and it was a great balance of sweet & spicy! The tteokbokki was also delicious too!! The staff is very nice and friendly!!

The chicken? Amazing! The K-pop playing over the speakers? Amazing! The one girl basically running the whole place by herself and doing it very well with kindness and attention? AMAZING! I will be a regular customer for sure. So glad this place is here.

Well, what can I say I'll start by saying next to the chicken place that's in Catalina island, this is the best chicken around. It's my second time here. The first visit was to the Buena Park store, however, today, this one was more convenient. I've ordered the soy dressing on the crispy fried chicken both times and it's phenomenal. It's so juicy, crispy, and flavorful that this will become your go to chicken spot. I was surprised that they didn't have a line out the door like their other restaurant does, however, I'm not sure the downy crowd has quite clued in to how good this chicken is. I look forward to trying, their spicier chicken, however, I considered the soy dressing, they drizzle on their crispy fried chicken to be one of the best tasting I've had. I highly recommend you give it a try.

My family and I tried this restaurant for the first time today. We were a little lost with the menu but our sever was very helpful and advised us on what to try and gave us sauce samplers. It was a great experience and we will back for more!

I loved their garlic parm fries with their half sized chicken bites. I think it had the garlic sauce not sure but the lady over the phone helped me decide what I wanted for the first time which was so sweet of her. She was very patient with me. The ambiance is a bit of an enigma to me because I don't recall but it's probably cool.

server was tired and did not want to be there throwing my cups on the table says she wouldn't serve beer then went back there and said I was being rude to her.. Chicken was undercooked

The chicken is ok. There are so many Korean fried chicken places nowadays and compared to others, it's just okay to me. I ordered the Original, Crispy, Soy, and Hot Spicy. Of all of the flavors, the Crispy was my favorite and the Hot Spicy my least favorite. I personally cannot stand how Koreans have been adding cinnamon (or whatever other spice that tastes like cinnamon) to their cuisine. I'm a fan of cinnamon but it just doesn't just mix with Korean food for me and the Hot Spicy was overwhelmingly cinnamon-y for me. Other than that, the Hot Spicy lives up to their name because it is definitely spicy....like a lot. The chicken itself was juicy. The packaged pickled radish is a nice contrast to the fried foods. It is overwhelming sweet but that's what it's supposed to be. What I didn't like about it was that it wasn't as crunchy/crispy as it should have been. They also did not offer any free sauces to go along with my very expensive order. If it wasn't for the proximity to me, I personally would prefer BB-Q, which is a different Korean Fried Chicken place. Also I found their menu and options a bit confusing. I wanted to try a variety of their flavors and they have the Banban (which means Half/Half) options on their menus but you couldn't mix and match beyond what was on their Banban menu. Half is with sauce on the chicken and half without. I wanted to try their Original and Crispy with the Banban order but they would not allow it. I HAD to get one half with sauce. Also, the sauce HAD to be on the chicken, not on the side. If I asked for it on the side, they would charge me extra. Not really customer oriented.

Jacob! I did as told and was still not contacted about a refund. That's a no no. Please give me my $$ for the deokbokgi i never got! -5 stars for the stale deokbokgi we got on 6/22. The rice cakes were so tough and inedible. $15 is not a bad price if the food can be eaten. I had 2 pieces and even tried to cook them for 20 minutes to soften them up. I order take out because I don't have time to cook. What is the point of dirtying my pot to salvage the food that was purchased take-out? Unfortunately, all my hard work led to more disappointment, as the rice cakes remained hard. Customers expect fresh ingredients. :( The chicken is still 5/5 for now.

Natalie is a customer service super hero! We always order the chicken Gang Jung...which is amazing...but it wasn't showing up on the delivery options.... so I called her and she handled everything by calling the manager and substituting certain items to make sure all things became equal up checkout. Thank you soo much Natalie!
