The Original Fried Chicken, a menu mainstay, was visually enticing. Each piece glistened with a golden hue; its skin crisped to what should have been perfection. Yet, as I bit into the chicken, the crunch of the skin led to an unexpected blandness. Although tender and juicy, the meat longed for the rich, garlicky, and subtly sweet marinade that typifies Korean fried chicken. This key element, the soul of the dish, was unfortunately muted. It did not taste like what I had tried at the Pelicanas in South Korea. 3/5.
The Crispy Fried Wings further explored the craft of frying, which is supposed to be well known at Pelicana. The wings were adorned with a delicate, almost lace-like crust, whispering promises of a flavor-packed bite. However, this promise still needed to be fulfilled. While texturally satisfying, the wings lacked the harmonious blend of spicy, sweet, and savory that ignites the palate in traditional Korean fried chicken. 2/5.
Accompanying these central dishes were sides like the Peli Shaken Fries and Sweet Potato Fries. Each side dish was well in texture - the fries crisp and inviting, the sweet potato fries a softer, sweeter counterpoint. Yet, like the main dishes, they were culinary soliloquies that fell short of the symphony you would expect from a Korean fried chicken restaurant. 3.5/5.
The service was slow (30 minutes), but nothing unexpected, so there was nothing wrong with that. The employees were also helpful and quick. 5/5.
The ambiance is like any other Korean fried chicken place. Very well maintained. No issues. 5/5.
