Here's a disclaimer, which should be no surprise if you've read my other reviews. I don't do a whole lot of fine dining. That being said, if I was on death row and I had to choose a last meal, it's The Top's prime rib, without a doubt, hand's down.
Pelino's was upscale but in their tight quarters, had a real cozy feel. As a bonus, it wasn't stuffy at all. The staff were extremely inviting the whole time we were there. We all started off with lemoncello spritzers, which was refreshing, but isn't really my thing. The rest of the table was ordering them, so, when in Rome. Plus, you go to places like this to try new things, to have an adventure, right? Maybe a lemoncello spritzer isn't much of an adventure, but you take what you can get.
This place operates by serving in courses, which you can do three, four, or even seven. We started off with bruschetta and olive oil. It was delicious, but tiny. Next, I got the carbonara, which didn't have a whole lot of flavor, and was tiny. Then, I got the tiramisu, which was perhaps the best tiramisu I've ever had, but in the end (you guessed it), was tiny.
I appreciate this restaurant, and I don't mind throwing down some ducats for a memorable experience, but in my prior experience, I have never left an Italian restaurant still hungry before. That night I did. Oh, and the one thing that wasn't tiny was the bill. It's my opinion that the cost of the experience and the amount of food was not "proportionate".
