Love the asam laksa here! But cant say for the fried oyster ( having said that, to each their own). Come try you may like it. Fried oyster was too soft for my liking but edible. Laksa - Very good, enough sour, enough spicy and yummmmmmy !! Enjoyed the laksa !! We reached this place at 9.30am, on a Thursday. No crowd. Promptly sat. Not too noisy. Toilet very clean ( good job ! )

I've had flavorful, wok hay koey teow at other places but this is another level. We finished the whole thing before we realized that we didn't take photos of the CKT. It was that good! We tried both the CKT with duck eggs and the one with the chicken. Both were tasty, but the duck one is slightly saltier and I prefer the chicken. Of course we also had to try the laksa since they were first known for this signature. The broth was delicious and we were glad that we added the fish pieces, they certainly added to the flavor. The least interesting to me was the omelette. We ordered the prawn and oyster one each, but the staff had mistakenly given us both oysters. Perhaps because I'm not much of an oyster fan, I didn't care much for this dish. They had quite a system, you place an order before they'll direct you to your seats but I wished they had a separate queue for takeaway. We had to queue together with those dining in, and had to wait for the people in front of us who were dining in to get seated first before we could place our order. However, the system was pretty smooth, but the wait was quite long considering we queued up since 9.30am, just half an hour after they opened for the day. Total waiting time was nearly an hour but to be fair, we did order quite a bit. Having said that, I've now turned into their fan, and would definitely queue again for the CKT! Nyumm

We had to queue to be seated even though it only took us about 10 minutes. I ordered laksa and my partner ordered koay teow. Once you’re seated the food comes quite quickly. Both the laksa and koay teow were excellent! Laksa was very fragrant and umami. Koay teow was charred and smokey. The portions were a bit small, so it’s more of a snacking food rather than a full meal food. It’s good because you can try different menus.

After searching for a great place to eat in Penang, a friend highly recommended this restaurant. I'm so glad we came here; the experience was fantastic. We ordered a few of the local favorites, and each dish was perfect. The Laksa had a great balance of flavors, the Char Kuey Tiaw had an incredible 'wok hei' taste, and the Oyster Omelette was a delightful surprise. Every dish was authentic and delicious. I will absolutely be returning on my next trip to Penang!

Ordered the 3 main dish, assam laksa + fish, char kuey teow and oyster omelette. Assam laksa - without adding the prawn paste, the taste is on the light side. Not suit my taste palette. Probably suit those that don't like strong fishy taste of assam laksa. Char kuey teow - nothing special, the taste is ok but charred taste is too over, probably over cooked. Oyster omelette - this came as a surprise as this is the type where they don't add any flour, just pure egg and big juicy oyster. 5 star for this dish, a must order if you do visit this place.

Halal Michelin Approved Char Koay Teow in PENANG 🇲🇾 We dropped by Penang Road Famous Laksa around 2 PM on 10th June and despite the crowd, we were seated in about 20 minutes. While waiting, a friendly staff member passed us the menu and took our order so that food could be served right as we got our table. Efficient and well organised system! This spot is halal certified, and proudly carries the Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition, which highlights quality food at affordable prices. We tried Char Koay Teow Chinese-style, full of “wok hei” and just the right amount of oil. You can taste the skill behind the wok. Loved it. And we also tried their signature dish, Assam Laksa. Tangy, savoury, with a good depth of flavour. The broth is rich without being overpowering, and the laksa had a nice bite. A great bowl overall. The last one we ordered Oyster Omelette. This one surprised us! Juicy oysters, crispy egg edges, and not overly starchy like some others. It’s a must-try. Prices were fair. For 1 laksa, 1 char koay teow, 1 oyster omelette, and 2 drinks the total came to around RM40. Very reasonable considering the taste, portion, and Michelin stamp. This was our first visit and it won’t be the last. Everything tasted freshly made, the service was efficient even during peak hours, and the Michelin Bib is well deserved. If you’re doing a Penang food trail, this place definitely deserves a stop. Highly recommend for locals and tourists alike!

Very tasty 😋 ordered Cha Kuay Tiew, fried oyster and laksa. The most surprising is fried oyster, as it was so different from Thailand. In Thailand, it s batter mixed between egg and flour, but here there is no batter, they are eggs and super yummy. Portion is not big, so you can try many things. All are delicious. First meal after we arrived Penang. we ate so lucky.

The laksa is lovely but the CKT and oyster omelette are stand out. Also try the ambla juice (Indian gooseberry) it’s wonderful and refreshing! The queue moved quickly and the portion size is small compared to other places but actually just right for a lovely meal. Really enjoyed this place!

Yelp
I'm very surprised by the reviews on this place. But then again, it was years ago and only 2 reviews. I was traveling through Malaysia 2 weeks ago starting in KL, Melaka, Ipoh, and finally Georgetown. This Penang style laksa was a HIGHLIGHT of my food trip. Much preferred over Melakan style. The restaurant also earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand 2024. Not super packed but as we were wandering the area and passed by the place multiple times that day, there was a steady stream of folks going in and out. Noticed a local tour guide also stopping by this place as well. Got in right before they closed at 5:30PM and ordered a small bowl of laksa (7rm) and an iced chrysanthemum tea (2.50rm). Penang laksa is much more tangy/sour, spicy with a depth of umami flavor (from the fish/seafood) lacking in the other ones I've tried in other cities. They added a generous amount of shallots, cilantro, raw pineapple and had this rice based noodle that was delicious. Broth was slightly on the spicier side, flavors were heavy and towards the end, a bit fishy with all the slivers of meat. But such a great find! And amazing price point (less than 2 US dollars for a small bowl). Would come back again and again. Also one of the reasons I rated Penang, in my experience, as the best food district on my travel.

Yelp
Getting off the flight, this was our first stop for local laksa & char kway teow(CKT). Finding this place can be a bit confusing, it used to be part of the Joo hooi cafe, but now it has its own location at 5 Lebuh Keng kwee, at the end of the street where all the tourists Q up for the famous chenduls. Infront of the stalls there were 2 stations, 1 for CKT & 1 for mixing laksa & sweets. Chow Kway Teow was excellent! Even though they did not use old fashioned charcoal, the wok hei was still very intense & aromatic. Noodle texture was fresh, springy & light, color & flavors evenly distributed. Good flavors & adequate amount of seafood (i.e. 2 shrimps). As an arrogant cantonese eater I found no faults. Assam laksa was good. This was our first assam laksa experience so kept an open mind. We usually prefer the singapore versions with intense curry & coconut flavors. This laksa def had more of a seafood/fishy flavor but in a good way, with shrimps & small bits of fish found in the broth. Also the sourness was evident which is classic assam. The presentation of the bowl was a little messy & the condiments very ordinary, yet we ate & drained the entire bowl! It was comforting, refreshing & light compared to the classic Singapore versions. Red bean cendol was excellenr! I was borned with red bean addiction disorder & this cold bowl of goodness hit the spot. It was not too sweet & quite refreshing, i m not a shaved ice fan & was glad it contained just enough ice chunks to provide the chill factor without sinking the Titanic. Overall we were very impressed by this restaurant. Its sort of a hidden gem for tourists due to its new location. This can be a blessing in disguise since the wait was minimal for us. We saw enough locals eating & getting take-outs there so always a good

Yelp
This assam laksa woefully let me down. It had practically no fish within, and the gravy was meh. I did like the chewy noodles, but they're not uncommon and aren't special as other laksa stalls have them too. Would not revisit. Such a waste of time and calories.
