Penang Satay House

Penang Satay House is a hidden gem in London, offering delicious, authentic Malaysian flavours and incredibly attentive service. We started with the House Special Satay (beef, chicken, and prawn skewers perfectly grilled and bursting with flavour) and the Cantonese Roast Duck. For mains, the Barbecued Spare Ribs in Capital Sauce were a highlight with their distinct sweet and sour flavour. The Singapore Laksa, featuring a mix of vermicelli and soft noodles in a spicy coconut broth, was another standout. The Chicken Lo Bak—wrapped in bean curd pastry—was an absolute revelation and something we'll be ordering again! We also tried the Beef Rendang, which was tasty but, surprisingly, our least favourite of the mains we ordered. We balanced the richness with a side of seasonal stir-fried vegetables and refreshing Tiger beer. The special decor, reminiscent of South East Asia, enhanced the whole experience. We were especially delighted by the fun detail at the end: you can ring a bell to let the staff know the food was delicious, which we did enthusiastically! Highly recommended.

Usual spot for me and my friends. Revisited yesterday and it’s genuinely such an amazing experience , everything was perfect. The laksa and the curry are my usual orders which are banging.

I never use this term…. But this is truly a “HIDDEN GEM”!! Despite its comprehensive menu, the dishes are quick, and packed with flavour! Prices are reasonable and service are warm and friendly. Would definitely recommend!

This feels like a family owned authentic restaurant. The two middle aged ladies were both warm and attentive. The food was great and such good value for money. However the main highlight for me wasn’t the dishes on the table. It was the moving fan installation on the ceiling. I could sit there and watch it slowly rowing all day.

Went there with my family of 4. The staff was very kind and pleasant, with a high chair provided for my littlest one. The food itself was exceptional. The beef and chicken are halal, and the taste was fantastic. We ordered some chicken and beef satay for starters and the chicken in tamarind and Char keow teow (beef) for mains with some jasmine tea to go along with it. The portion sizes were perfect for my family with nothing left over at the end, but we all felt more than satisfied. The price came to around £30, which was less than we were expecting to pay, especially for food of that quality. PENANG SATAY HOUSE: WHAT A GREAT VISIT!

Best restaurant around the north of London. Among all the Turkish and Indian places, this place stands its ground and serves amazing far eastern food. We keep going back. We stopped counting how many times. The waitress (owner?) always welcomes us with a huge smile. The atmosphere is amazing. It's always warm and cosy, no noise, no loud music. Perfect for chatting, or a date, or just a quick dinner out. The set menu is really worth the price and you get an amazing assortment of food. You'll get everything listed there except the dessert which is "choose one". In the pictures you can see "Menu C" for 3 people. You'll also get really nice prawn crackers with anything you eat as a pre-starter. Note for the owner: for some reason we always want to go out for dinner on Tuesday evening, but then you're not open :( We didn't go at least 5 times in the last months because of this.

Food was really authentic can’t fault anything that was served. Duck, chicken, beef all cooked perfectly and amazing flavours. Great service from the staff, very accommodating to a large group of us! Thank you.

The food is alright. But the service? No attempt to serve the table (party of 6) at the same time. Long gaps and no apology. Long gaps between courses and when we had the temerity to enquire politely when our second course would arrive, the waitress barked at my brother in law. I was taken aback. They only have two waitresses which probably saves them money but has a negative impact - I won't return. Really disappointing.

This restaurant is very local to me so I thought I would try it out. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and I was instantly greeted by the friendly staff. The music they play in here is also very soothing. I chose to eat the tofu goreng and crispy noodles with vegetables instead of meat. Both dishes came out very promptly. The tofu was incredible, it had this amazing peanut sauce on it and was just cooked perfectly. The noodles were alright although the sauce left something to be desired. The price is incredible for the portions here. I will definitely go back soon!

The large number of framed Time Out Cheap Eats awards on the walls of this Turnpike Lane institution say it all. Penang Satay house has been providing locals with good quality, good value Malay and Singaporean food for many years now. The friendly owners generally greet you as soon as you walk in, and service is fast, efficient and pleasant. Food-wise, there are several rather good set menus and a lengthy choice of a-la-carte dishes. If you like satay, you can go for the mixed starter skewers of beef, chicken and prawn, and there's another starter which is a kind of beansprout salad with sesame covered prawns, smothered in hot peanutty sauce. Good choice of mains: stir-fries and Malay curries. I'm a bit of a sucker for the Beef Rendang. Penang is licensed and sells a selection of wine, and various European and Asian beers. Considering the shop unit is fairly average (bare walls, stock-standard polystyrene ceiling tiles) the decor is pretty good. The interior has been painted dark green (which camouflages the ceiling tiles pretty well), and there are traditional fabrics hung stretched across the ceiling to break up the squareness of it all. Various oriental handicrafts also add interest. It's a pleasant place to eat, which is what matters! Prices are very reasonable, so your wallet will not be much lighter when you leave. And, with food this good, neither will you.

The food in this place is amazing and tastes/looks very authentic. I love their beef satay dish and nasi goreng rice! You Mmust go there if you live in the Turnpike Lane/Wood Green area. They also have a take away service. Food is delicious and provides a nice change to all the kebab houses around.
