"It is no secret that Italians have great taste. Milanese chef Alberico Penati has set up shop in this chic bistro with honey-coloured wood panelling, and bay windows overlooking the garden of the Invalides – a highly prized location indeed! Tradition is the chef's passion. With no concessions to passing fashions, his menu features a selection of Italian classics made out of carefully selected ingredients. Home-made pasta remains the forte of this place, egravioli del plin piemontesiwith a very good roast beef jus. The 100% Italian wine list highlights Piedmontese wines, particularly Barolo and Barbaresco." - Michelin Inspector

After a neighboring restaurant (Pasco) turned us away at 13h25 ("sorry--kitchen is closed" even though an online dining site was showing reservations through 13h30), we ran to the next one down, fearing missing lunch. The proprietor met us at the door with a generous and warm welcome--such a contrast. They made us feel like honored guests. We ordered the prix fixe menu as a more affordable approach to lunch; it was 45E each. Bread sticks were served with a yummy olive oil. My first course arrived dramatically under a dome that kept it hot: perfect eggplant parmesan--absolutely perfect. I chose the veal dish, which was a smallish serving which nonetheless was perfect following the eggplant, although my husband was left a wee bit hungry. I finished with the gelato topped with expresso, which far exceeded the same dessert I had had elsewhere. Service throughout was impeccable--better than the service we had received at the 1-star Michelin Pavyllon. I was served a red wine to die for (had to request it). I'd come here again in a heartbeat.

There are two problem with this restaurant. Although the pasta was nice, everything was very overpriced for the quality. The spinach butter truffle pasta was just salted butter, maybe some garlic and stock it was too expensive for 50$. The steak was worse than fast food restaurants, it looks like it was boiled without any seasoning and then pan seared on only one side. The pan was clearly not hot. The pepper was too large and just sprinkled on later. The beef was clearly too thin, maybe store bought, not meant for searing into a steak. I asked for medium well not well done and arguing with the clerk how it should it be done. Simply put, the steak is not fatty and too thin for 50$. The image I posted made it look like it still a bit pink but in IRL it’s totally grey.

This restaurant showed how good customer service can go a long way. After we ordered the lunch menu, the waiters gave us so many extra appetizers, such as parm, all kinds of bread, gordal (?) olives, arancinis, and more. I really appreciated them offering so much before the actual appetizer I ordered arrived. The appetizers were delicious, fresh, and very generous. We ordered the mozzarella di bufala and a parmigiana eggplant. I especially loved the eggplant! For the entrees, we ordered tortelli with mushroom cream and the veal escalope Milanese Style, Potatoes and Zucchini. I wasn’t a huge fan of the entrees. I couldn’t taste the mushroom sauce, and the veal was ok. But I’ll have to come back for their regular pasta entrees! They seemed exquisite and generous. As for desserts, the panna cotta we ordered had a layer of berry jam which I didn’t like that much because it tasted a bit too artificial. However, the gelato with the espresso poured on top was sooo fresh and perfect to end the meal. I loved the service, and it wasn’t loud at all. Very easy to maintain a conversation without having to shout nor lean forward to listen closely. The atmosphere was relaxing. I’ll come back!

Hi!! I wanted to express how much my friend and I enjoyed dinner at Penati last night. First of all, we arrived a little later than our appointment said and they welcomed us without any issues at all. Our server Marouk was so charming with us and explained to detail everything about the Italian cuisine. Excellent service. He exceeded. We are going to recommend your restaurant, the ambiance was so welcoming and luxurious. We love every minute there. Thank you!!!

The lunch formula is okay, nothing special but this should be enticing enough to make you want to come back. The small complementary touches were missing today as compared to other tables. Charging €24 for a glass of white without having a wine list or telling the customer is an outrage. Be careful and don't be caught by the ridiculously high wine prices by the glass!! Left a sour taste and won't be back.

A Must-Visit Gem in Paris Penati al Baretto is an absolute gem! From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed by a warm and elegant atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at ease. The dishes are nothing short of exceptional—beautifully presented, full of flavor, and clearly made with the finest ingredients. Every bite is a reminder of how good Italian cuisine can be when done right. The staff are equally wonderful: professional, kind, and genuinely attentive without ever being intrusive. This restaurant is a true hidden treasure in Paris—refined yet inviting. Highly recommend for a memorable dining experience!
