I recently had a baby shower at the Pendray Inn and Tea House, and it was such a lovely experience. The event coordinator, Jacqueline, was so helpful and accommodating. She made the booking/planning process a breeze, answering any questions I had promptly and with kindness! On the day of, the staff were extremely friendly, providing great service and allowing us to do our thing whilst still ensuring we had everything we needed and were enjoying ourselves. The food was amazing, and they had many options to accommodate all dietary restrictions. From start to finish our experience was perfect, and I am SO glad we choose the Pendray Inn for our event. Thank you to all!

We stayed at the Pendray Inn for three nights in February and had a wonderful experience. Being the off-season, the price was very reasonable considering the amenities they provide. The highlight was definitely the complimentary breakfast- what other hotel serves a tiered breakfast with freshly baked scones and a pot of premium tea! All the staff were extremely friendly and willing to accommodate our every need. The room was very clean and the bed was so comfortable it was hard to get up each morning! Location is excellent too, all the major attractions are easily accessible by foot or transit.

I have stayed in Victoria many times over the years, but never have I had such a wonderful stay as this most recent one at The Pendray Inn, and Tea House. Our suite was beautiful, and had a breathtaking view of the inner harbour, and was beautifully furnished to accentuate the building's historical atmosphere. The included breakfast is honestly the best hotel breakfast I have ever had! The scones are light, fluffy, and delicious, and I was so obsessed with them that I suggested they begin selling sachets of the basic ingredients so that guests could buy them, and take them home to make. The staff were wonderful, warm, and friendly, and happy to help in any way possible, and despite the numerous stories of ghosts lurking about trying to frighten guests, the only experience I had was one of feeling as though I had been warmly invited to be a guest in the Pendray's gorgeous home. I would absolutely recommend that anyone visiting the lovely city of Victoria, choose this beautiful, historic inn, as the place to rest your head, or stop in for tea!

I tried their Scottish afternoon tea, and it was a lovely experience! They accommodated my dairy allergy and made everything dairy-free, yet it all tasted delicious. I enjoy the sparkling wine, and of course the tea is topnotch! I chose the red Africa tea. The service was attentive, location was the best, and the relaxing ambience made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

Stepping up to this charmingly elegant Victorian White House, you're instantly transported to a bygone era—absolutely stunning! This was our second jaunt into the delightful tea realms of Victoria, and oh, what a treat it was. If you're yearning for an affordable but equally enchanting alternative to the grandeur of the Empress, this place is your haven. Quaint, cozy, and bursting with character, it's like a snug tea lover's dream. The service was prompt, which was impressive given they had a full house. Holiday season decorations added an extra layer of sparkle, making the atmosphere warm and inviting. The tea? Absolutely divine. The food? Well, it was a mixed bag for me. The sweets didn’t sweep me off my feet, but the savory bites? Total game changers. And let's not forget—we kicked off this adventure with a glass of mimosas! Because, why not? Cheers to the perfect tea-time escapade!

Google
Beautiful heritage building with a lot of character. Service is quick and polite, the high tea experience was excellent and they did a great job accommodating a dairy allergy with the vegan high tea option. Tea was from silk road tea and was quite good, but not as fresh tasting and aromatic as at the Empress. The setting and visual experience however was better than the Empress. I would say the food was comparable with a slight edge to Empress since I think they gave a bit more food and it was a bit tastier. Overall, highly recommended to check out, book in advance

We had an amazing experience at The Pendray Tea House! The service was exceptional, with a friendly and attentive server who made us feel welcome from the start. The food was superb—beautifully presented and delicious, especially the scones. Highly recommend!

My family booked a high tea last weekend celebrating a family birthday. We have been coming to this location for many years. Service and food were great but was surprised at the price-much higher than we ever have seen. What spoiled our visit was a bug in one of the cups. This grossed us out and really affected the rest of the tea. Not sure we will ever return as paying that kind of price we would expect it to be bug-free.

Yelp
Great experience for half the cost! Right by the harbor. Delicious teas! Would go back.

Yelp
This was a fun holiday experience for the family to enjoy before our holiday lights tour at Butchart Gardens, but I think it's a "one and done" for us. We had 2 children in our party and 2 adults. We ordered 2 children's teas and 2 of the "west coast afternoon teas." There was pros and cons to the savory items on the west coast trays: the rockfish on the crostini was way overcooked but the smoked salmon pinwheels were really nice. For the sweets, the apple chocolate delights were an odd combination that didn't work well together, but the macarons were lovely and the scones were nice. Service was slow and it took a very long time to get our food, but the ambience was warm, cozy and festive, and I got a kick out of seeing my 8 year old try tea for the very first time, which he proclaimed is basically "flavored water." Why yes it is, dude :) It's cheaper than The Empress afternoon tea for a similar experience, but I'd say it's still not worth the cost of admission.

Yelp
Actually got to travel to another country in 2024 HA! On our anniversary trip to Seattle we were lucky enough to catch the ferry for one afternoon to Victoria, B.C. Canada! Reservations for the Pendray Tea House were simple with OpenTable fortunately! On our last full day in Seattle I managed to snag a table for 2 for High Tea! It was a beautiful day in Seattle for a 3-hour ferry tour (hahaha) to Victoria. The weather in Victoria was beautiful too, no heavy rain! Overcast but mostly sunny, breezy but not cold. We reached the pier just in time with a half hour to spare to make our reservation at the Pendray Tea House! What lovely old school charm! The inn seems right out of an old English novel! After taking much obligatory pics outside of the Pendray Inn in front by the garden, off we go inside! We were greeted warmly, and asked if we had a reservation for Afternoon Tea. Once they found our name we were wished a Happy Anniversary. Nice touch! Upon seating we by our lovely hostess we were handed these beautiful menus. Such work from Pendray for Afternoon Tea! Fancy! We decided on: Winter Afternoon Tea ($62) Savouries -Cucumber, Lemon-Dill Cream Cheese, and Chives -Egg, Spinach, & Mushroom Remoulade -Smoked Salmon & Capers Gremolata Pinwheel, Flying Fish Roe -Turkey Meatball Marinara, Cranberry Sauce -Pork Toulouse, Island Brie, & Onion Jam West Coast Afternoon Tea ($68) Savouries -Cucumber, Lemon-Dill Cream Cheese, and Chives -Stewed Shrimps & Peppers, Tomato -Smoked Salmon, & Capers Gremolata Pinwheel, -Flying Fish Roe -Baked Rockfish Crostini, Herbed Butter -Potato & Carrot Crab Cake, Tartar Sauce Both sets came with: Freshly Baked Scones -White Chocolate & Lavender Scone -Westholme "Cream of Earl" Scone -Devon-Style Cream -House-Made Local Berry Jam Signature Pastries -Bon Macaron -Lemon, Cream, & Berry Pavlova -White Chocolate, Pumpkin & Carrot Cake -Sustainable Apple & Chocolate Delight Choice of Organic Silk Road or Westholme Tea - I went with the seasonal Winter Warrior tea which was a mixture of lemon, ginger and green tea. Wifey went with the seasonal Africa tea which had rooibos with lavender and orange zest. Excellent choices to accompany our light bites! The main differences in the Winter Afternoon Tea & the West Coast Afternoon Tea was the savouries section. West Coast amped up those seafood flavors! Overall though, the dainty foods served on both curates were great! Savory faves from us were the Baked Rockfish Crostini, Turkey Meatball Marinara, Stewed Shrimps & Peppers, and the Egg, Spinach & Mushroom Remoulade. But I won't forget about the fresh scones! Those were downright delicious with the Devon-Style cream and the berry jam! Not dry at all, and paired perfectly with sips of hot tea while looking out into garden! The mini desserts were an excellent way to end our Afternoon Tea service at Pendray. The weren't overly sweet and helped us relax with our last cups of tea. Faves were the Lemon, Cream, & Berry Pavlova and the Which Chocolate, Pumpkin & Carrot Cake. They even surprised us for our anniversary with some chocolate-covered strawberries! Such a sweet treat! A stellar experience for wifey & I at the Pendray Tea House, glad we were finally able to make it out to Victoria for a day trip! The food and service were great, there was some added value to our visit too! They were running a fall time tea special on our visit - buy one Afternoon Tea, get the second 50% off! There's no way I say NO to a good deal! Pendray Tea House was worth the ferry ride from Seattle, hopefully wifey & I will get to celebrate again in Victoria soon!

Yelp
When visiting Victoria, high tea is a must. While The Empress Hotel is a classic choice, we opted for The Pendry and were absolutely delighted. The Pendry offered a serene and peaceful ambiance, perfect for a leisurely afternoon tea. The food was exquisite, and the service was impeccable. In contrast, a quick peek inside The Empress revealed a bustling, chaotic atmosphere that was the complete opposite of what we desired for a high tea experience. To top it off, The Pendry's offerings were not only superior in quality but also more reasonably priced. If you're seeking a truly delightful high tea experience in Victoria, I wholeheartedly recommend The Pendry.

Gina K.

Yelp
This was my first formal tea time experience but the two friends I was with had done a tea experience before in different cities so they had something to compare it to. Giving Pendray 4 stars because * my first tea experience * food was very good and their was a lot of it * the view from our table was quintessential Victoria, viewing the harbor while sipping tea in an old Victorian house. * easy to make reservations since they are on Open table. The only off putting thing was the smell when we walked in. It was a bit revolting and nauseating, not exactly what you want before a nice meal.

Stacy S.

Yelp
Beautiful tea house - outside and inside. Service is great. When we visited, they had limited breakfast options. And what we got wasn't that great. Eggs lacked flavor and were served with stale bread. Fruit wasn't so fresh. Maybe just go for tea and eat somewhere else?

Kelly N.

Yelp
A charming historic manor house, with multiple rooms to provide a cozy atmosphere for afternoon tea. The front rooms face the harbor and have filtered water views to see the ferries come and go. The selection of tea sandwiches was delightful - we sampled the winter tea, west coast tea and children's tea on our visit. The selection skews more sweet (vs. savory), but all of the items were tasty bites and were more than enough to be a meal. Service was friendly and knowledgable about the teas. There isn't much beyond taking the tea order and then bringing out the single tiered tray selection of sandwiches and sweets. I really liked the kids options which included a choice of tea as well as juice, hot chocolate or milk. There were also some kid favorites such as a nutella and marshmallow sandwich which probably led to a bit too much sugar, but were a big hit on as it arrived at the table. I do recommend reservations, particularly if you have dietary restrictions (for which they ask for 24 hours notice to prepare GF options). I wish there was more of the history included in the menu or shared by our server to appreciate the 200 year history of the location. There's a nice private vegetable garden outside, and I can imagine tea on the porch would be lovely in summer.

Sharon R.

Yelp
Delicious High Tea! Definitely recommend this place. The location is great being near downtown and across from the water in an historic Victorian hotel. The staff is friendly and helpful. I'll definitely return on my next trip to Victoria!

Yelp
We've been to the Empress tea before and we really wanted to try a new place. I thought the Pendray would be perfect for us because we're pescatarian and they offer a West Coast tea, which is all seafood. I also love the building and quaint feeling of it. And so many people have said they prefer the Pendray tea experience- so we couldn't wait to try it. Sadly, the expectations were not met and we were disappointed with our experience. First, the service was not very friendly. Staff were commenting amongst each other how busy it's been and how they just finished cleaning a table from hours ago and sighing. It made us feel unwelcome and like we were an inconvenience. We ordered tea for ourselves and our daughter. The tea arrived and we were told one tea takes 3-5 minutes, one takes 4, and one takes 3-4 minutes. There were no timers given so we just opened up our phones and set a timer. It seems like it should be a given to have a timer? Easy to look on our phones, but seems like such an easy fix for them to offer as other tea places do. We really wanted that fun tea experience for our daughter, but hers came arranged within our tower. It was disappointing that she didn't get her own tower/tray. I know it seems like a small thing, but again not the experience that you hope for and we just kept wishing we were at the Empress so she could have her own tea experience. The pumpkin scones were a highlight but everything else was just OK with the food. I know you pay more for the Empress but after having gone there and had such great service, it just felt really disappointing. I think if the Pendray improved the service part of it, it would make for a much better experience.

Yelp
This place is quite peaceful and inexpensive compared to Fairmont Hotel. The server Pedro was engaging polite and helpful. I hope management recognizes their employees that bring us customers back. My daughter and I will return

Yelp
Walked from hotel to Pendray Tea House. Scenic walk along the harbour. Upon arriving the the building I felt I was taken back to late 1800s with rich history built by William Joseph Pendray. Now it is a quaint, delightful and relaxing tea house located at Victoria's scenic Inner Harbour. We each ordered Winter Afternoon Tea and chose our own tea. The treats were all so delicious! I especially enjoy scones with Devon-style cream and the Cucumber & Lemon Dill Cream Cheese. Pinkie's up and 5 stars for wonderful experience with great service from the staff who checked in with us if we wanted more hot water for tea pot. I would definitely come back again next time I visit Victoria.

Sherry H.

Yelp
I had tea at the Pendray on a recent visit. I don't usually write reviews but cannot stop thinking about how awful some of the food was. Several sandwiches looked like they had sat out on someone else's table as they were dry around the edges. The cucumber sandwiches were tasteless. The salmon was dried and curled. The deserts that we took to with us to go,we later threw out . It was a large waste of money.

Yelp
We checked in, in the most expensive room of this beautiful old Mansion. Great hospitality and service, so far so good. After dinner downtown, we came back in the mansion to find out that there was a large group in the restaurant. We had to get up early the next morning so we wanted to go to bed early. Since the mansion is old, and (of course) noisy, and we had a room right above the restaurant it would be impossible to sleep. I went downstairs and asked a lady of the staff what time this group would be leaving, only to find out there was going to be another group at 21:30h! If we had known this, we would NEVER had booked a room in this mansion in the first place. The manager did not want to refund (400 dollars!!!!) because 'he couldn't rent out the room anymore'. Shame on you! You should have informed us in advance, so we could have made a deliberate choice. Oh, and FYI; the 1 and only star is only for the beautiful mansion. Not for the awful way the manager handles very logical complaints. If you want a quiet stay: don't book a room here.

Yelp
High tea was amazing. So romantic and traditional london fog tea and snacks hit the spot. Great vibes all around.

Anne K.

Yelp
Amazing place, the atmosphere, the service, the teas and the food! thank you it was a magical moment to stay at the Pemdray and enjoy the beautiful breakfast in this historical and stunning manor

Dean N.

Yelp
They gave us a nice cozy seating.., they prefer reservations. Food was cute and fun. The tea was nice. We had the minty full tea pot

Tom E.

Yelp
Delightful. A wide selection of tea, and several options for afternoon tea service including pescaterian and vegan options. Beautiful homelike setting, professional courteous service. Everything from cucumber sandwiches to scones with Devonshire cream was perfect.

James M.

Yelp
Was fun alternate from lunch as usual to "high tea" at Pendray. Conveniently located on Belleville Walk in bustling Victoria, this beautiful Victorian Tea offers an array of delicious sandwiches, featuring both the "West Coast", offering fish and seafood, or the "Traditional" consisting of original style sandwiches. Both are served with freshly baked scones, jam, butter, as well as a great array of handmade petit fours, these eye-pleasing confections are the perfect accompaniment to tea. Guests are brought their own pot of tea once they select their own preferred tea choice from the wide range of international options. My friends and family of 5 were seated on the porch overlooking the gardens and beautiful Inner Harbour. A fun and relaxing way to enjoy a leisurely meal in beautiful surroundings.

Michelle P.

Yelp
We had High Tea today at the Pendray Tea House. It was so lovely!!! The house is gorgeous with pretty views of their garden and the harbor. The staff is kind, gracious and so attentive! They explained the menu of food and teas to us which was very helpful. They offered to take pictures for us without us asking and were close by if we needed anything. I would definitely recommend them to anyone wanting a quiet, delicious and beautiful High Tea experience! Thank you so much!!

Melody M.

Yelp
Since the Empress Afternoon tea was closed, this was one of the closest afternoon tea house that was open. Never tried it, but thought why not ? The afternoon tea was located inside Huntington Manor, which was a very old fashioned house. It definitely brought you back to the past as you enter the house. I really enjoyed that the tables very spread out to a few tables a room. Each room was different looking which makes you want to explore the house and peek inside each room. You have a choice of doing an afternoon tea made of a variety of tea sandwiches (smoked salmon pinwheel, flying fish roe) to baked scones and some sweet pastries. This was around $58. But if your not in the mood for afternoon tea, you can choose from a selection of sandwiches. Server was professional and courteous. The only downside was that they tack on a surcharge and tip to the bill before you sit at the table.

Jennie L.

Yelp
This is decent for the price if you can't afford the Empress. I have to say that the food was actually quite good. Service was not. You had to pay ahead of time at the front with tip (?) (Without being served which the tip should be the point). If I would have known that I probably would have looked for somewhere else. It was really drafty and dated, although a beautiful character building. I am sure it once was good but now it is sad and cold. Heat the place. Our server came for tea once without pouring it, and brought us our food. And that was it. We didn't see her after that. Not sure what the 64 bucks was for. Service it was not. Food in general was really good. We chose the West Coast High tea which had a seafood base. The standouts were the Creole Shrimp Bruchetta (excellent), crab cake, geisha blossom and white chocolate scone, the macroons (one hazelnut one earl gray), the cardmon spiced pumpkin tart and the lemon lavander cake. Everything else was good except for the rockfish pie that was rather bland. I probably will try somewhere else next time I go. I didn't expect the Empress, but I expected better service for 65 bucks plus tip than this.

Katerina B.

Yelp
The service was good, but a little slow. We arrived about 15 minutes early for our reservation and they were able to seat us right away, which was great. I would still suggest making a reservation though, because they seemed very busy, even in winter, on a Monday afternoon. All the servers were super nice, but it did seem to take a little longer than you would think to receive our food. They had a great selection of tea and a couple of choices for the food menu. The Sweets and Scones were the same on both menus, but the Savouries were a little different. The "West Coast" Tea Service seemed to have more seafood and was a couple of dollars extra. My husband got the "West Coast" and I got the "Winter" Tea Service. We both enjoyed our food and there was plenty enough to make a full meal. The Scones had great texture and flavor. A few items seemed like they were made up a little ahead of time (very slightly crusty around the edges), but that is probably typical for something like this... you can't make every single thing to order. I also believe they may offer some special diet menus and a kid's menu, but you may have to order it ahead. I would call to ask. The location itself is wonderful, as the building is a Victorian era house that they have converted into a restaurant. We came in the Winter, but it is probably even better in the Spring or Summer, with the garden in bloom. Our waiter told us that they put tables out on the porch in the summer as well, which sounds lovely. All in all, I'd say this was a great place for an afternoon tea service.

V C.

Yelp
Nice, layback tea house. Service was fast. Food is good with tea sandwiches and sweets. Lemon tart is my favourite. Would recommend.

Kathleen J.

Yelp
My husband and I wanted an authentic afternoon tea on our visit to Victoria. We thought about going to another place, but I'd been before and wasn't "Empressed". Pendray Tea House is beautifully set in an English garden. The place settings were simple, showcasing the china tea cups. We ordered a special which included a Winter and West Coast tea service and tea, plus a glass of sparkling wine. Everything was delicious! Every savory had unique flavors--even the simple cucumber sandwich was elevated with an herby dill cream cheese. It is impossible to choose a favorite. The scones deserve their own paragraph. Again, complex flavor combination that were absolutely delightful. The cream and jam were delicious and not just thrown into a serving dish, but presented. So much care was taken in even the smallest detail. We ended up taking our desserts home, but again delicious! If you are thinking of a traditional tea experience, go to Pendray Tea House!

George C.

Yelp
Had a wonderful afternoon tea while staying on property at Huntingdon Manor. We arrived late (within 15 minutes of closing), but they were still happy to seat us and provide a full service. The Rooibos tea I had was excellent - I recommend it iced. We had the traditional tea (there is a more expensive seafood-heavy option), and all the elements were very good, the standout to me was the lavender white chocolate scone - I usually dislike white chocolate for being sickly sweet, but they have found the perfect balance to go with the lavender without having the lavender taste too medicinal. Only criticism is that it is quite pricey (more than Butchart's tea at the moment), but it is in a beautiful house with a view and in my opinion, worth the splurge.

Jamie F.

Yelp
I was excited to stay and the welcome to the hotel was amazing and the room is nice but I was expecting to stay at a nice , quaint inn. When we returned back around 9pm there was loud party and music. I feel like we should have been informed. The inn is small and we hear everything like it's the house. Very disappointing overnight in Victoria.

Holly W.

Yelp
The tea house should definitely be getting higher reviews. I suspect the inn is bringing its ratings down. In a gorgeous old big house, the tea rooms are large sunny rooms looking out over lawn and garden and the harbor of Victoria. Having embarked on a week of scone eating at all the best tea houses, this was the fifth and final afternoon of enjoying the luxurious habit of tea. Why don't Americans do this?, I always wonder whenever visiting a tea drinking country. So civilized! And then you can have a late dinner or snack and call it a day! These scones we decided were the best of the lot. Each person receives two Earl Grey scones and two white chocolate and lavender scones. I am not a fan of white chocolate so had my doubts but the chocolate was subtle and tasty. The scones had a slightly crunchy texture like shortbread and was very buttery. Absolutely knocked it out of the ballpark delicious. Tea excellent but I have yet to have bad tea in Victoria. There were several options available with more food (tea sandwiches, and other sweets) than just scones but we were there for the scones. Prices reasonable. Wonderful experience.

Cheri S.

Yelp
Can't recommend afternoon tea highly enough! My husband and I spent our anniversary sipping tea and delicious treats overlooking their beautiful garden and Victoria's inner harbor. My husband got the West Coast offering and I pre-ordered the Vegan option. What a surprising treat! We both absolutely loved everything-the perfect mix of savory and sweet. We're used to this type of event being more beautiful than delicious and so we were so pleased that we enjoyed the entire experience so much. So much more personal than the nearby pricier option and such a thoughtful array of options. Don't hesitate!

Jack M.

Yelp
We had been to the Pendray Tea House once before, a few years before COVID, and it was a pleasant experience. It's essentially where you go when you want to save some money on the Empress' high tea. That still doesn't mean that Pendray's tea is economical, by any means. You'll pay upwards of $140, including the 15% that is suggested to you when you show up. Our more recent experience underwhelmed us. The staff was very friendly and helpful, so no issue there. Tea came piping hot, and many times we were asked if we needed more hot water. The food was less than amazing. Except for the cucumber sandwiches, nothing seemed like it had been made on the premises. Everything felt like it had come from a store, and not super-fresh, either. Most of the food items could be found at a Safeway or other large grocery store. And while this is because of COVID and not so much because of Pendray, pre-ordering everything quickly at the front desk, along with pre-tipping, cheapened the experience, as well. So, yes, it was just OK. Adding more unique food or some fresher items that aren't as dry would have helped.

Rachel W.

Yelp
Went for breakfast and had a wonderful time! Beautiful atmosphere and wonderful service. Lots of tea options, which were delicious. I got the scones and my mother got the tropical breakfast tower(? Forgot exactly what it was called)- both were fantastic. Recommend coming for breakfast to get the experience/atmosphere of high tea at a lesser cost.

Vicki C.

Yelp
We skipped the free hotel breakfast nearby to come to the Pendray Tea House. They serve breakfast in addition to their Tea Service later in the day. This was a very lovely way to enjoy the Inner Harbor area in a great older Victorian breakfast room. The Rose Tea is delicious and our server was pleasant and efficient.

Whitney H.

Yelp
The Pendray Tea House is one of the best high teas I have ever had (and I lived in London for 5 years). We sat on the porch of the Victorian hotel overlooking the garden and harbor in the distance. We sampled four different teas and they were outstanding. Fragrant, balanced and beautifully served. The savories were incredible bacon remoulade on Parmesan on toast in addition to the traditional sandwiches (egg salad, cucumber) and salmon spirals with roe. The Devonshire cream is made fresh and the lavender and the white chocolate scones were amazing. The sweets were beautiful and delicate- lemon tart, cream puff, macaroons etc. I had a glass of charme de l'isle )(local Prosecco) which was a fun addition! Our waitress was Clara - she was fantastic- friendly, attentive and impeccable service! And the hotel has the most beautiful original stained glass wi does and dark wood interior. Tea is served in the library and dining room too. Everything about this experience was charming. I love the Empress but if you have the choice- I recommend the Pendray- it was far more personal/intimate and just as elegant.

Mariel N.

Yelp
My last day in Victoria was unexpectedly great. Love my morning breakfast in Pendray Tea House! its my first morning tea (I have tried afternoon tea at the empress and Butchard gardens) but my experience here has been my favorite out of the rest so far! The host who served was Jan and he made the morning experience so so so lovely. He gave an excellent service and always have a bright smile on his face. He has been so accomodating with helping me choose the table I want to with a view and helped me choose such a wonderful white tea, he would check in on me to make sure that the breakfast was at my expectation. The breakfast was also great, the boiled eggs were percect! french toast was so wonderful. Overall I would recommend this place! Hope that you guys have Jan as a server and he will make ur first stay here great as his top priority. Definitely will be back.

Mike M.

Yelp
My wife and I has their tea today We thought it was ok nothing special The tea was warm not hot when we received it All the food was fine but nothing special, nothing that would make you want to go back, the soup was our favorite, it was quite good Also the price was a bit on the high side for what we got

James X.

Yelp
We scheduled our afternoon tea online. We were surprised to see it available at 8:30am since it is called "afternoon tea" but we booked it since we had to leave Victoria soon afterwards. When we got there the waitress let us know it isn't afternoon tea but there was still the 3 course serving of food. We agreed to go ahead with it. My wife ordered a Singapore tea but instead, after a long wait, got an assam from India. My wife decided it wasn't worth complaining about. The food options were definitely not 3 courses but your standard breakfast just served in 3 plates. We are vegetarian and for a sausage my wife asked for an egg as a substitute. The waitress agreed but instead we got a bite of cheese - a portion fit for a single cracker. The tea was an off the shelf tea bags as well - nothing unique. We were shocked to see the total bill ended up being over $70 and due to the slow service and incorrect items received we tipped lower than standard. As we were leaving the waitress looked upset and, while holding the receipt, repeated the tip we had left in an angry tone. The whole experience put us off from ever returning. It doesn't compare to The Empress or Butchart Gardens in terms of quality, integrity, and service.

Yelp
Such a great experience with my husband on our first tripp to VictorIa that I had to have tea there again on the next visit with my granddaughter. It was just as wonderful and the memories are pro iceeless. She was in heaven!

Yelp
I did a bit of research before making this ressie through a Victoria Clipper package- was charmed by the photos, and sold by the reviews on a different trip advice site. I thought I'd spread the love for this quaint, lovely spot, with fantastic service and delicious treats. The inn itself is just gorgeous--burnished dark wood, with intricate carvings, and a lovely wooden staircase. Very cozy, and full of history. Our sever was Louie, and he was fantastic. We did the regular tea, as opposed to the West coast tea, which offered some shrimp and salmon sandwiches as part of the selection of goodies, for a higher price. The regular tea started out with a long menu of teas to choose from: I chose the fragrant and relaxing Black Tea with rose petals, which comes in it's own pot and left to steep. Oddly, this tea shop didn't use tea leaves, but only a tea-bag. And honestly, it tasted great, but I need more than one tea bag for a large pot of water. We were brought a scrumptious cup of velvety squash soup in a darling mini cup with a mini spoon ( I love tiny things!!). The lovely 3 tiered server had little tea sandwiches--my favorite was the cucumber with cream cheese-- and then scones with clotted cream, (oh my god! Earl Grey scone with cream: to die for), and the top tier was filled with artistic and lovely treats. I really enjoyed this foray into a traditional English tea~ and look forward to bringing more friends back to enjoy!

Yelp
Too troublesome for someone to host two people in an empty house (apparently a "large group" was "on the way".) House looked clean, though. Two stars.

Yelp
Wife and I went for a afternoon high tea date on 12/23. We absolutely loved the atmosphere and ambience of the Pendray Tea House. Very quiet. Lovely touches and decor. My wife had the Winter Afternoon Tea and I had the Judges Tea. The tea house was out of the meatballs so I substituted the grilled brie and apricot sandwich option. We each had tea - 1837 and Endless Summer - both of which were very tasty. Although we both loved the atmosphere and the tea - the food itself was a let down. The steam bun was very dry along with the beer/cheese scone. The sandwiches for the winter afternoon tea had little filling and the apricot was missing from grilled Brie and apricot sandwich. The judges tea said it came with a ginger snap cookie which was not present either. The items that were not let downs were the lavender scones, triple berry jam and the sausage, onion jam and pickle buns.

Yelp
What a delightful experience! My friends and I didn't want a full meal so we got the tea and scones option. We tried Lucky Tea and Creme Caramel and the scones were chai (slightly sweet with a subtle tea and spice flavor) and white chocolate and cranberry. These scones had a fluffy biscuit-y texture. Our first set we're a bit cool in the middle and we immediately received fresh plates when we surfaced this. They're served with fresh cream and preserves. Our server gave us tips for the island and was super friendly. Afterwards, you can wander around the building. Lovely experience!

Yelp
Excellent food and tea in a fancy old house! Friendly wait staff as well -- when we told them we were going to Beacon Hill Park after brunch, they told us where to get food to feed the ducks there. My only complaint is that I wish we didn't have to request the vegan option 24 hours in advance, as my understanding from the website was that this was just for the gluten-free options. Nevertheless, we had the pescetarian option with seafood only and it was great :)

Yelp
Just okay My wife and I were recommended the Pendray Tea House over the Empress high tea and were left unimpressed mostly. Pros: -beautiful atmosphere -quiet -decent service at front desk -delicious starters -the butternut squash soup was incredible! -two scones, the white chocolate lavender and earl grey, were very moist and light Cons: -no milk or cream offered? I thought that was quite bizarre. I've been to a few high teas and all have served milk without me requesting it -especially with a black tea! -tea sandwiches quite dry and bland and with very little filling -dry pastries, especially the cheese and beer scones that came with the Judges Tea -missing ginger snap cookie that was supposed to go with the Judges Tea -Out of meatballs for the sandwich for the Judges Tea set -server not very personable -some desserts were stuck together which made us think that they were not prepared freshly and put on a plate prior to serving but were placed in a fridge "ready to go" with other accompanying desserts on the Winter Tea menu. A big piece of one of our macarons was fused to a lady finger and couldn't even be pulled off of it. All-in-all, an okay experience but definitely wouldn't go back. I'd also not recommend it.

Yelp
My husband and i went to Pendray and once inside we were asked to pay up front and also asked if we wanted to include a 15 percent tip. Shocked at this we advised the service would be 10 percent and from there the service went downhill. No one asked if we wanted refills or if we wanted anything else - for 70 dollars a person one would expect better service and to be able to tip at the end of the dining experience. Tipping up front is just a bad scene.

Yelp
This was my third time having tea at Pendray (the first two times when it was the Gatsby Hotel) and I am sad to say it wasn't the same. The tea was fine except I had to ask for milk and the waitress seemed put out by the request. Like someone said previously, they use tea bags, which I found to be odd. The food itself was average but not worth the price increase. The sandwiches were not great. The scones were good but the dessert was subpar, especially the green tea cake. The service was almost nonexistent and our waitress hardly came by at all. When you go to afternoon tea, you pay for the ambience, the service and the superior food. It did not live up to past experience.

Yelp
Thank you Michael and Maddie. We felt very welcomed. We had a Weat Coast and a kid's tea. Both were lovely. Very tasty treats! I love the shrimp and avocado cone. My daughter enjoyed her cucumber sandwich. Great menu of TWG teas. We had a pot of 1837 Black Tea and Moracan Mint.

Yelp
My husband and I just spent the weekend in Victoria and knew we wanted afternoon tea. We chose the Pendray Tea House because it seemed to be the most economical option out there while still being fairly well recommended. We planned our reservation for noon, but our morning freed up so we thought we'd pop by and see if they could seat us early (mind, we were over half an hour early). Turns out the place was completely empty, so we were seated right away. The atmosphere was wonderful- very serene and beautiful, even on a gray rainy day typical of the PNW. They did try to gently convince us that we would need multiple tiers of food for two people (we heard other servers making the same pitch to different customers who came in after us), but we chose to stick to one three layer tier (of the Traditional Tea service) and did not leave hungry. My husband and I agreed that the egg salad sandwich and lavender scone were the best of the lot (it would not be an exaggeration to say the lavender scone melts in your mouth), but nothing else really stood out to us. I thought the cucumber tea sandwich was particularly bland in comparison with others I've had. We ordered the London Breakfast tea and thought it was excellent; very flavorful and unique. I'm a tea aficionado and I'm pretty sure I've never had a black tea like it before. The only other place we've had afternoon tea is on a cruise ship so we don't have much to compare the Pendray to, but we were happy with the service and experience and would recommend it to others.

Yelp
We had a lovely afternoon tea experience at The Pendray Inn and Teahouse. The food was delicious, service was impeccable, and the ambience is ideal for catching up with friends. Our party of 3 had a delightful time and would highly recommend the afternoon tea service!

Yelp
We went on a Sunday at 6 pm and it was empty except for one other table of two. It was my daughter (9) and I and it felt a little awkward because of how quiet it was all. Not at all anything in their control but keep it in mind if you have a loud voice like me. I got the traditional tea tower and my daughter got the kids version. It was plenty of food and it was all delicious. We are tourists from WA and have never had high tea but it was such a special experience for my daughter. It was affordable compared to others around Victoria. My daughter was excited to dress up and have some tea. She actually regularly drinks tea on her own. They also have juice available instead of tea and one of their sandwiches is Nutella. Our server was so kind and attentive!
