I personally love this alternative to the International Rose Garden. It's a beautiful park that is peaceful, quiet, and easy to enjoy the roses when they're in bloom. Sitting by the fountain or under the gazebo on a hot, sunny day feels nice.

🌹 Peninsula Park Rose Garden ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This garden is an absolute gem! The sweet rose fragrance hits you the moment you arrive, and it truly feels like you've stepped into a secret garden. The layout, the blooms, the peaceful atmosphere—it's a feast for the eyes. Photos just don't do it justice; you really have to experience it in person. Perfect for a quiet walk, reading on a bench, or simply soaking in the beauty.

A beautiful summer day in the rose garden at Peninsula Park and everyone was there! 2 Quinceneras, 2 weddings, bounce castle, R&B music, Christian gathering with live music, a full swimming pool, and too many dogwalkers to count. A perfect picnic day with my Crafties. 😍

Amazing park! Very beautiful place for a photo session. Many different kinds of roses. Clean. There is a parking place. Benches. Thank you for the beautiful rose garden!

The Peninsula Park Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon, is a photographer's paradise! I had the pleasure of capturing wedding portraits here, and every corner of the garden was a dream come true! The vibrant, blooming florals provided a stunning, colorful backdrop, while the lush greenery created a serene, romantic atmosphere. The light filtering through the trees and the picturesque paths gave us endless opportunities for breathtaking shots. The garden's peaceful setting, combined with its natural beauty, made it the perfect location for capturing timeless moments and my couples "just married" romantic portraits at sunset. It was an absolute joy to photograph here, and I cannot wait to come back in the future during peak bloom!

Stopped in Wed morning. Volunteers were working. They really enjoyed sharing their knowledge about the garden. Peaceful morning. Easy free street parking

Pretty decent size of the garden and if you come at the right time for fresh roses, its a treat!

Peninsula Park is one of my favorite places in Portland. This time of year the Rose's are in full bloom the water fountain and water helps cool you down. The sounds of the park for me is soothing and relaxing in such a beautiful place. If I can I always bring friends here.

Google
This is an enormously beautiful rose garden. There are paths between the rows of roses that smell great and have signs teaching you about the flowers. There's even a large seasonal fountain in the middle. Parking is available on all sides of the park along the streets. Go on a week day if you want to avoid a guaranteed crowd. Full bloom is in June.

Yelp
Discovered this park on the way home from dinner in Portland. I'm not sure how I ever missed it. It's like a beautiful piece of Paris was brought to the US. The rose garden is expansive and beautiful and all the roses are in bloom during summer. The fountain and people strolling down the walkways helps give a lovely vibe. I can only imagine what this place feels like during the daytime

Yelp
Wow, this place was so beautiful and so well kept. I had a nice walk here with my pup. Would recommend 100%

Yelp
Photogenic Peninsula. As a local you want to reinvigorate your love for the city but do not want to sit in the trafficked tourist line for Washington park. Stop and smell the roses here. A surprisingly well sized layout of roses and various bushes & trees. The overall park itself is a haven for families, dog walkers and picnics. Well maintained all seasons. The easy access to the park is nice exhale moment or spend hours resting the soul.

Yelp
I went to visit my brother a week ago, and after we had a delicious brunch, we decided to take a walk at Peninsula Park. It was beautiful and relaxing, and there were a lot of things to see. I really encourage you to check it out if you are ever visiting Portland. Unfortunately, when we went, the roses were not in bloom. We went during the weekend. Therefore, there were a lot of people, but it was not crowded. I can't wait to visit the park to see and smell the roses when they are blooming. .

Yelp
This place is a continual favorite for my family. We don't live inside Portland anymore, however we make the drive to this park at least 4 times a summer. It's so peaceful and relaxing and beautiful. We live to sit under one of the four shade tree areas surrounded by flowers, feeling like we've stepped out of a book. This time the fountain was under repair, which is a bummer, it's beautiful.

Yelp
We'd never heard of the park, but stumbled into it while out and about. Fabulous surprise! Gorgeous big trees and the most amazing rose garden. We were so impressed with the garden area, colors and more colors complimented by adorable ornamental trees and a lovely fountain. Peninsula has a little something for everyone: green space, pavilions, courts, the gardens, walking paths, and a fabulous shaded playground. Lots of people on their bikes and even more wandering with their pups. Unfortunately the perimeter streets had a decent amount of litter, but outside of the one abandoned diaper we passed, the park's interior was quite clean. Definitely a must-see for flower lovers, and overall a very nice park.

Yelp
Hidden gem!! Roses and the playground/splash that are shaded for summer, big enough park to not feel too crowded although we came early.

Yelp
I was in Portland volunteering for a LPGA tournament when I decided to go visit some of the parks in the area on my day off. I started out with Peninsula Park which was a park not too far from where I was staying at the time. It's a park about a block square and has a large collection of various rose plants and a fountain in the center. There also was a gazebo structure on one side of the park. There was also a lot of tall trees surrounding the park. It is definitely a neighbourhood gem and people around the neighbourhood can be found wandering through it. The sweet smell of the roses is quite prevalent and I did enjoy myself wandering through it.

Yelp
Beautiful park filled with gorgeous Roses! So much more accessible than the larger, more famous Rose Garden at Washington Park and with lots of street parking. If you are there during peak season, which is actually several times a year, it's magnificent! So many varieties and color combinations. And the fragrance! I love to wander around, take pics of the roses, then enjoy a picnic. There is a lot of open hard space where people rollerblade; lots of green space for walking and picnicking; a playground for the kids; a fountain and water creatures for soothing sounds and photo ops; tennis courts; and a recreation center. On the north side is Peninsula Park Pool where I often swim laps in the summer. Unfortunately all Portland public pools were closed for the 2020 season due to Covid. Hoping they can open in 2021! We have had a mild winter (2021) so the roses will probably be in all of their glory end of May, early June. Don't miss it! The park is free and since we are in Pandemic times, it's the perfect outdoor place to meet friends and enjoy fresh air, nature and roses!

Yelp
Pretty nice to have a free park with a lot of roses and much easier access from the east side of the river. Nice time always to take a stroll here and when the roses are blossoming it smell great. The water fountain is a great bonus feature as well. Water just makes any setting come alive.
google avatar

Rose D.

Yelp
We were surprised by how big this park is. I only knew about the huge rose garden there, which is lovely with so many varieties of roses, and a nice big fountain (fountain is for decoration only & people/pets can't go in). I think a sign said they have around 5,000 rose bushes there and it looks spectacular! What I didn't realize is this is a huge park with plenty of open space for picnicking and play, with a variety of sport areas: tennis, basketball, baseball, soccer, and a community center with a pool. They also have a big playground complete with a sprinkler water feature the little kids can run through to cool off in the Summer. For picnics and parties they have a covered picnic shelter and another section of picnic tables in the shade under some large trees. They also have some benches along the perimeter of the park, a few drinking fountains and two restroom facilities on either side of the park. Dogs are allowed as long as they are on a leash. Street parking in the surrounding neighborhood should be relatively easy to find.

Yelp
I could totally enjoy a morning coffee with this formal Rose garden. Hey Jason to a baseball field.
google avatar

Jen M.

Yelp
One of my favorite parks in Portland. There's a beautiful rose garden with a grand water feature on one end of the park that always seem to draw me in. The park has something for each person, from relaxing to playing. There's always something going on at this park. Concerts, naked bike rides, markets and more.
google avatar

Cassandra T.

Yelp
The roses here were so beautiful; I can't believe how well it was maintained and not trampled or anything like people would do in many East coast cities, they were very respectful. I enjoyed reading on a bench overlooking the roses, saw lots of dogs on walks, and the playground looked like a great place for kids.
google avatar

Mike R.

Yelp
Not the newest or nicest park, but it's pretty big and will keep your kid busy. There are three separate play structures. 2 sets of swings. 3 teeter totters. A huge loop around the park which loops through the rose garden which has its own fun little pathways to get lost on. The rose garden also has a little water fountain. Tennis courts. Water splash pad fir the summer. I haven't run into too many obnoxious people and this park is definitely in our repertoire.

Yelp
We stumbled on this park one day after we picked up some takeout lunch. We're from San Diego so I didn't know anything about this park. Are used my Yelp app to find an Indian place for takeout and then I also looked searched for a part to go eat it at Peninsula Park is nearby the restaurant so we came here. This park is a total score it has a gorgeous rose garden with plenty of place for people to hang around and just enjoy it it has pavilions tennis courts playgrounds open space and a lot of people are taking advantage of it. There were live jazz musicians hanging out I love jazz and this just made my day. There were ladies rollerskating, kids on bikes, And friends and family is just enjoying the day together. Parking was no problem but the neighborhood was wonderful seemed very safe this is my favorite park in Portland

Yelp
This park is a real gem. I can't believe it's free! Street parking is easy to find. Great place to walk around if life is feeling stressful.

Yelp
Designed by Emanuel T. Mische (a champion of National Parks) in 1912 this is the only sunken rose garden in Oregon. It includes a fountain, public garden, rose garden, and wedding site - reservable. There were many signs posted throughout the park offering tours and classes. I absolutely love that this Park is such an active part of the community. We took thousands of pictures here and will definitely return.

Yelp
Stopped in Peninsula Park before leaving from Portland. :( We had a couple beers with lunch and decided to walk them off before our long drive back home to Seattle. The weather was phenomenal, so it really was the perfect opportunity to come to Peninsula Park! The fountain is gorgeous. The gardens here are gorgeous. Everything is gorgeous! It's seriously a perfect place for walking, picnicking... You name it! They also have a couple playgrounds too, as well as indoor restrooms, which is nice if you have little ones. Great park. Check it out!
google avatar

Lori H.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful park! The fountain is wonderfully relaxing to hear while strolling through the roses. A wedding was taking place during our visit. Luckily we came during peak rose season! Highly recommend to anyone visiting the Rose City!

Yelp
I envy these small towns. I feel like they have these hidden destinations whether it's a waterfall, hiking trail, or a park with beauty like no other. We stumbled upon this park coming from a Starbucks nearby. I was trying to avoid a busy intersection when I turned into the street Peninsula Park stood. The first thing that drew my attention was the amazing rose bush. This beauty easily serves it community with the likes of birthday parties, weddings, or just a lazy day laying at the park enjoying the scenery. They have a gazebo, a circular water fountain, and of course a huge rose bush garden. And at the farthest part of the park, exist a playground area with swings and slides and tater tot. Brings you back to simplicity and leaves you with good thoughts.

Yelp
Stopped here briefly before heading out of Portland. This park was close to our Air B&B. I didn't have time to go to the International Japanese Rose Garden when I was in Portland, but I did want to check out a rose garden before leaving. The rose garden in this park is absolutely beautiful. I really enjoyed walking around and smelling all of the gorgeous flowers and taking in their beauty. This park also has a picture worthy fountain and gazebo, as well as playgrounds and basketball courts. You folks in Portland are incredibly lucky to have parks this gorgeous in your neighborhoods!

Yelp
Pleasant park with a beautiful large rose garden featuring a central water fountain. Very picturesque.
google avatar

Frances L.

Yelp
This park is what I would describe as the little sister to the International Rose Test Garden in Washington Park. It's well maintained and the roses and garden are beautiful the fountains were not on yet when we visited, but I will be back to see them when they come on later this year. The park has everything to be entertained from the outdoor pool during summer or the year round indoor activities in the hall. You will not be bored here. My favorite spot is the benches overlooking the rose garden and if I lived closer I would be a regular found every morning the sunshine's reading a book and sipping tea. Come for the flowers stay for the games.. They have 2 baseball field, 4 horseshoe pits, a tennis court and large playground with splash pad.
google avatar

Rachel L.

Yelp
This is a beautiful park with large, spacious grass areas that are perfect for lounging, picnicking, or simply enjoying the day. We were visiting Portland with a 20 month old, which meant we pretty much looked up every park in the area to give her time to run off energy and tire herself out. This one has a playground in the center, scattered rose bushes around, and a large rose garden towards the edge (but the flowers were unfortunately not in bloom when we visited. Peninsula Park is one of the nicest parks we visited, and I love how a nice pathway circles the entire area, which we leisurely strolled.
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
This park is beautiful. Not only is the park beautiful it's a great spot if you have kids as the playground portion of this park has a lot going on. If you don't have kids, this is still a great place to walk the dog, have a picnic, swim at the municipal pool, join a kickball league or stroll through a seriously awesome rose garden. Walking through the rose garden when the flowers are in bloom makes you feel like you're in a private, European flower garden. It's no wonder that there's always wedding pictures or engagement pictures being taken each time I've been to the park. It's a great spot and is worth the visit
google avatar

Krystal F.

Yelp
This park is beautiful and full of all kinds of things. Really I think there is something here to please just about anybody. Although this park is nice all year long, the best time to visit is during the summer, specifically when the roses are in bloom. I feel like June is when the booming begins. I'm fortunate to live within a mile of this park so I get to enjoy it regularly. This is a great place to take photos, play sports, take the kids/dogs, or even relax with a blanket and a good book. Some people even select this place for their wedding. This is a must visit park in Portland!

Yelp
How have I never been here before? I should have been... We all should have been. And if you haven't been here before... Seriously go. the original rose Gardens are here. There's a stunning fountain in the middle of all the Roses. When I entered the park I was in shock as to the quality and magnitude of the children's play areas. There was stunning little water feature for the kids to play in. I loved the play area underneath all of the trees as well as we were walking through the park. There are several gazebos but plenty of places to sit and have a picnic. We had a very delightful day here.
google avatar

Mandy N.

Yelp
Nice big park to walk my pooch. Some covered seating areas. Little garden area located in the park. Will be prettier in the spring time...
google avatar

Rumit P.

Yelp
Super cute and surprisingly large park filled with thousands of gorgeous roses enclosed by a closely manicured hedge. The park is very close to Portland Community College and various bus routes, as well as the streetcar. There's also a large centrally located water fountain that enhances the space. If you don't see the fountain flowing, then its water is being tested (happened when we were there). There were schoolchildren and dog owners walking their dogs, as well as many passes by so it neither felt deserted nor crowded. Artists were drawing pretty landscapes of the park as well, so it was peaceful and relaxing to see them work. We did see a dead squirrel that a family of crows was feasting on, but that is nature.
google avatar

Nidhi T.

Yelp
This park has a little bit of everything. Beautiful roses of course, quaint little gazebo, big grassy lawns to just lay down in, two different play structures for kids (catering to different ages) that are under ample shade from the tall trees, such a fun splash pad, picnic table shelter- you name it! We loved it. There's plenty of street parking all around the park. The only issue was the smell of smoke from a bunch of smokers that congregate on one end of the park. That really took away from the whole experience.
google avatar

Bodie P.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place-it's a hidden gateway to something more-you can feel it. From the amazing rec/community center for the kids to the maze rose garden there is something for everyone of all ages to enjoy. My 3yo is becoming great at ping pong due to the community center and I am thankful they gave him a place to play indoors during the winter. Thank you Peninsula Park.
google avatar

Yelp
The City of Roses. Everyone knows about the International Rose Test Garden. One of Portland's top visitor attractions with thousands of rose bushes and its classic view of the Portland skyline. But Peninsula Park with over 9,000 rose plantings is no slouch. It is also the city's first rose garden and in some ways I prefer this quiet little park in the heart of North Portland to its more famous counterpart. We were there in early July and it felt like the end of the season, so I can only imagine how beautiful it would be in full, robust bloom. The Rose Garden is sunken so when you approach from above there is a lovely view of the fountain surrounded by manicured rows of roses and hedges. The joy of discovery in Portland is not just the grand places, but those smaller neighborhood spots that are less known and less traveled. Add this one to your picnic list.
google avatar

Christy H.

Yelp
This is such a lovely, well kept park in a nice neighborhood. I always enjoy strolling around the beautiful rose garden area and the fountain. The brick stair cases down to the center are wonderfully designed. Sometimes the flowers are blooming and you can even smell the rose scent when driving by if you are lucky. It is perfect for a nice walk. They also have tennis courts available if that is your thing. The community center and swimming pool are always kept in good condition. Staff is friendly. Some people have weddings here as there is a gazebo and the ground present a nice atmosphere. Family friendly. This is a great destination spot in Portland!
google avatar

Mark B.

Yelp
This is an amazing park. I've driven past it many times and always thought to.stop sometime...when the roses are in bloom.... I finally got around to it this week. I am glad I did. The flowers steal the show for me, they are planted in big collor groups. They are planted around a fountain in a recessed area. It is a beautiful place. North of the roses there are ball.fields, a playground, picnic areas, tennis courts. And a parks buildings.
google avatar

Malisa T.

Yelp
Honestly, I really love this rose garden over the International Rose Garden. There's a fountain in the center, an open field, and plenty of benches to sit at if you plan on wanting to have a small picnic or lunch break My daughter, boyfriend, and I visited not too long ago and the roses were still in bloom. It's one of my favorite flower gardens to stop by in North Portland

Diego H.

Yelp
If you are into roses, this is the park for you! It also features a beautiful water fountain.

Yelp
I came across this park on an exploration walk. I wish I had smell-o-vision for this park! The rose garden is absolutely fabulous! I can't wait to share it with family and friends.

Yelp
If you come at the right time of year, this is the prettiest park in all of Portland. That time of year is "when roses are in bloom." The rose gardens here are just gorgeous, and in my opinion prettier than even the much more famous Rose Test Garden. It's just so lovely that I can understand why at almost any given time two or three brides are trying to get their photos taken. If I'm ever again a blushing bride, this is where I'll want my photos taken, too! Unlike most parks in Portland that value organic aesthetics, I like how stately and well manicured the grounds are at Peninsula Park. Nice change from the usual. The shrubbery are all cut perfectly. The trees over the walkway perfectly symmetrical. The walkways have a classy pattern to them, and the fountain in the middle is just gorgeous. This park is absolutely top notch. On the north end of the garden you have a gazebo and then a large lawn, perfect for picnics. I saw weddings, baby showers, all sorts of happy and festive gatherings. This park just makes me smile. Minus one star for seemingly not having bathroom facilities. Honey Buckets are gross, and they're the only gross thing in this entire park. If I'm wrong and it actually does have bathrooms that I somehow missed, I'll gladly update and give them that 5th star.

Yelp
I was on a weekender trip from Seattle for two friend's birthday party feeling down with a nasty cold and was driving around Portland looking for a nice park to relax at that would be peaceful. I turned a corner and was gobsmacked at the roses and knew I found the perfect little piece of solitude. There was ample parking, many spots to lay down a blanket and be surround by roses while you read a book. I look forward to my next trip to Portland so I can once again unwind in this beautiful park.
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
My favorite rose garden in Portland. Maybe I'm just partial because it's within walking distance of my home, but it truly is a gem. The rose garden is just one area of this huge park. There are lots of open grass areas, picnic pavilions, sports fields, tennis courts, playgrounds with water features, a historic building with a POOL, and more! Fun fact... in the early 1900's, the zoo was undergoing renovation or relocation, and during that period they housed the penguins in the Peninsula Park pool. There are pics inside the center.
google avatar

Joy L.

Yelp
This is a great park! The fragrance of roses perfumes the air. The park usually has a good bit of people but never seems to be overcrowded. There's lots of place for kids to play and for others to just chill under the trees. I loved spending time wondering through the garden in the early mornings.
google avatar

Kari M.

Yelp
One of the biggest and best parks in Portland! Great paths for walking/running, basketball and tennis courts on the north end of the park, playground equipment for the kiddos, picnic tables, even horseshoe pits! Oh, and if going up the the International Rose Test Garden isn't your thing, just hit up the impressive array if roses here (complete with fountain in the center). We are kind of into parks here.
google avatar

Joseph T.

Yelp
This is a beautiful park with an amazing rose garden and gazebo! Plenty of room to play frisbee!
google avatar

Roger M.

Yelp
ROSES & BREWS: Sometimes you have to stop spinning your wheels and smell the roses at Peninsula Park on a fat tire & brew route (lots of pubs in the vicinity). Stellar, spectacular roses--you think you are at the International Rose Test Garden. Peninsula Park is located in the historic Piedmont neighborhood. It was the first public garden to cultivate the city's official Rose, Madame Caroline.
google avatar

Grace L.

Yelp
I have been coming here since I was 3 years old, summer camps, pool, and swim lesson. Everyone there is nice and helpful. I love the Community.
google avatar

Sean G.

Yelp
I visited this park at sunrise in March. So it's probably not really reflective of what you might find in the middle of summer, but since I tend to visit a lot of places at sunrise... First off, it's a big, open park. It has a great old feel to it. There's a great variety of things to see. There's a pool, a large sprawling playground, some trees, a giant gazebo, and of course their massive rose garden. Of course in March, the rose garden was completely empty. However, it looked like it would be pretty cool. I'm used to the Rose Test Garden at Washington Park, since I live nearby, but I think the Peninsula garden would certainly hold it's own. It has a more pleasing layout, if you ask me, but doesn't have a sundial or any real accessories that you might enjoy. Well, other than the large, plain fountain. The play area is awesome. They have the usual swings and spiral slide and the like, but they also have a merry-go-round (always a plus) and teeter-totters and even a variety of gymnastic bars. There are parallel bars, and bars on chains, and rings, and, well, a lot of playground equipment I don't see anymore. So the playground was really cool compared to the dumbed down plastic playgrounds you see at modern parks. This morning there was plenty of foot traffic as the sun came up. Lots of joggers and people out walking their friendly dogs. I know there is an off-leash area, but everyone let their dogs run around wherever. I didn't see any piles of poo, tho, so at least people are cleaning up after their pets. So, I would recommend this park. If you want a nice relaxing place to stop, this looks like it'd fit the bill. If, like me, you love photographing the many cool things you'd find at a park, then you'll like this park. Check it out!

Deborah D.

Yelp
Easily gets overcrowded in the rose garden area. Lots of children playing in the fountain even though posted signs prohibit anyone from doing so. Honestly, this park is not really worth the stop if you're looking for a place to take a nice stroll
