The 14 Best New Restaurants in Pittsburgh | Eater

"From the folks behind Penn Avenue Fish Company in the Strip, this Downtown eatery offers seafood during the day to go or for counter service, including sushi, soups, salads, and sandwiches, like an English-style cod sandwich and salmon on ciabatta. At night the focus is the Warren, a top-notch cocktail bar from Spencer Warren and Carrie Clayton, two of the city’s best bartenders. Housed in a room adjacent to the eatery, the domino-themed bar with a midcentury vibe offers a menu with fish and chips, wings, frog legs, and burgers. Take note that due to recent changes in state liquor laws, the spot is a wine shop, too." - Melissa McCart

Had a really nice lunch here. The Baja cod wrap was good. Maybe a bit too much sauce, but still tasty. Service was great. Friendly, attentive, but not obtrusive. Speedy option for a work lunch without feeling too hurried. They had the windows open to the sidewalk, which is a fun touch to get the sights and sounds of the city while enjoying lunch. I think a lot of people will go for the sushi, but the rest of the menu is nice too. I'll add this to my regular list of downtown lunch options.

Penn Ave fish company is wayyyyy better! Bf said sushi was good still but my burger was raw and bloody, when I requested well done! I don't send food back because I don't want to have it spit in. Waitress was good tho! Cassie did try to rectify the situation but it's not her fault. Tipped her well because she was great!

The sushi was good and the server was good. The wait was a little long.

Good and unique selection of food, very very slow service. A bit steep on prices for lunch. Also, the last time I was there it was cold outside and cold inside - kept our jackets on. There is also an attached store with wines, gifts and such which was very interesting and fun to look around. I will try this one more time and hope for the best on improvements or maybe just they need to hire some more help?

Google
Kind of astounded to see a single negative review here on Penn Cove / The Warren. First and foremost, the reviewers are unfortunately ignorant to how much charity work Spencer and the establishments are involved in. Secondly, I've never had a bad meal here. The cod is entirely amazing - as is every side I've ever had. My ex GF hates all seafood - persuaded her to try it and now she'll eat cod! Furthermore, the wines are an alternative to Wines and Spirits and they have high end microbrew beer to go. Not once has any staff ever been rude to me, even during these incredibly stressful pandemic times. Realize what we're going through is far harder for a restaurant establishment and its employees. I will always recommend and frequent Penn Cove / The Warren. A true gem downtown. Jason S. - DreamTeam Development

This place has gone waayyy downhill in the last few months. All of the decent staff are no longer there. It's going downhill fast. I witnessed one of the owners being ridiculously rude to staff in front of patrons, on 3 different occasions. If he treats staff that way, no thank you. He must not realize is a food establishment. Piss the staff off and they will screw your business aka food orders. I'm good. No thanks. That guy is bad for business.

I ordered the chicken sandwich which the menu described as grilled with roasted peppers and mozzarella, what I got was deep-fried with pickles and mayo. Yes, it was a chicken sandwich, but it was not the chicken sandwich that was on the menu. It was also rather mediocre and way too small for being $12.

None of the friendly staff work there anymore. The atmosphere just seemed off to me. The food was not the same as it used to be. I guess the good food left with the good staff.

Yelp
Quality food, and a great menu offered for takeout during this pandemic. The blackened tuna on a brioche was excellent!

Yelp
I get so lazy about writing reviews sometimes. Especially for places that I have been to multiple times. I've been here to grab sushi for lunch and take it back to the office as well as evenings at The Warren having a drink or two. The sushi has always been fresh and tasty. The pricing is a little better than other sushi restaurants and I think fair for being downtown.

Yelp
Where else in this city can I stop in and grab sushi have access to a Soup Bar and get a bottle of wine all-in-one stop? I'm absolutely impressed how they made it all come together and this tiny little spot. The soup looks amazing and the grab-and-go section had really good-looking lunch options. There were probably a lot of other amazing things to look at but the beer and wine was distracting me because of all of the trendy options! This will absolutely be my go-to in the fall to grab soup for lunch! PS. If you are as obsessed as me over the adorable logo (see in my pictures) you can even grab a t-shirt at the checkout counter!

Yelp
I usually grab sushi from here and it's delicious. However today all of the sushi sitting in the grab & go section clearly rotten avocado in it. I thought I'd go up to the counter and order fresher sushi. The sushi I got (for $15) still had rotten avocado in it. I'm not one to complain about browning but you can clearly see the brown spots. Really disappointed.

Yelp
This is a fast take out place! I stumbled into it on Monday and the grab and go sushi selection looked great. I got a nigiri and California roll combo set which was $12. They had other simple options like California rolls, sashimi slices, and philly rolls. The chef's were making more fresh rolls in the back. They also had soup options, hot food, and beer and wine. The sushi was great, and I will definitely be back.

Yelp
My FAVORITE grab and go spot in the city!!! Exceptional food quality. My favorite menu item is the roasted salmon sandwich (hold the ciabatta bun, mustard on the side). It comes with pasta salad and coleslaw... mouth is watering. The salmon is cooked to PERFECTION literally every. single. time. If I'm in a sushi mood, I love to grab a few options from the sushi cooler. Everything tastes really fresh. I haven't had a roll I didn't like, and I have tried some out-of-the-box-looking rolls. I'm not really a big soup gal so I haven't tried any of their soups, but when I come in I always take a peak at them from the soup bar and they look and smell delicious. One day I will make it a point to try. :) They also sell beer and (lots) of wine, so a great place to pick up some dinner and drinks to go. Note: not a dine-in restaurant.

Yelp
I had such high hopes! Pull anything out of the sea, and I'm bound to like it...except when it costs $16 and is comprised of a bunch of spinach, a couple of nuts and a spattering of crab meat. I'm happy to hear that other Yelpers have had great experiences, and am hopeful I just caught PC on a bad day. I always think it's worth it to try once for yourself!

Yelp
We had a happy hour here before seeing Hamilton. The place was dirty, the windows were even dirtier! Food was ok, but the wine was over priced! We won't be back. Had high hopes for this place too....

Yelp
Love Penn Cove's sushi! Their sushi rice is on point and fish is fresh! I usually eat the sushi as dine in from the Warren.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, good service, great sushi. Working downtown, the options for sushi are slim and I have tried them all. As a sushi addict, I am always on the look out for new spots to try. I was very excited to try Penn Cove Eatery the second I read about it and it did not disappoint. I visited around 1pm in an effort to miss the lunch crowd and it was not crowded at all. I like that you have the option to order from the full menu at the counter or you can sit down and dine in. We dined in and were promptly approached by our waitress who took our order. The rolls came out quickly and were beautifully presented. They tasted even better than they looked. Fresh fish and veggies and delicious rice. Priced very fairly as well. If you are downtown and looking for sushi, DO NOT go anywhere else!

Yelp
Came here for some beers and to watch the Penns game. Ended up getting their mac and cheese which was delicious. Great service and atmosphere too.

Yelp
This is my new favorite lunch spot! The crab cake sandwich was amazing and I love the decor! The service was fast and very frien
