Divey, cute, cheap. Good spot for bar rail drinks + small bites (not amazing quality, but lots of slider and tater tots options). They used to have a popcorn machine you could just get popcorn from for free but I think that stopped during pandemic.

I was there for an engagement party on Saturday. Sliders, tater tots, popcorn and cold pitchers were flowing non stop. The patio was great, we had an amazing time, food was delicious, and service was very good. Shout out to Ashley for taking care of all 40 of us, I’m sure it was not easy but you rocked it. It was my first time at Pennies and I will definitely come back.

What a fun restaurant we love the variety in sliders I have never seen this before in other restaurants. Great fun atmosphere, beautiful outdoors patio and dining area indoors. This place is perfect for a snack, lunch or dinner. We tried their Pennies blonde beer and it was very tasty! There is a washroom which is in the basement so not ideal for handicapped people.

Google
The cocktails and sliders were good— prices were reasonable. They also have the patio and indoor dining. On top of that, they offer free popcorn to all customers. FYI: usually when it is around evening, the wait time is a bit longer. Nevertheless, the total experience was awesome

Google
Fantastic find for some very delicious sliders and tacos. I love that there are many vegan options here, almost half the menu is vegan using Beyond Meat for many of their vegan options. Tacos sliders are tiny for $6 but very flavourful. Corn dog was so good, reminded me of Pogos. The hamburger sliders are ALL fantastic. Great atmosphere with good music, great service. Definitely worth a visit.

Haven’t been back here in a while but so glad we made the stop! Great selection of sliders and the taters are great! The patio is to be taken advantage of in sunnier and warmer days for sure! My fav is the buffalo chicken sandwich but so many great options to choose from

Google
A nice found in the neighbourhood through Google map! Love the free popcorn! The sliders are adequate size and rather delicious! love the Korean chicken one! Jennifer took extra care of us and she is fabulous!! The music is a bit loud for me but overall the experience is very decent!!

Google
Pennies is the place to go if you’re looking for delicious sliders at ridiculously cheap prices (for a change), unlimited popcorn and just great ambience! I went there with my girlfriends one Sunday afternoon after seeing cherry blossoms at Trinity and boy this place served mean sliders.. we were full to our hearts content, Nashville chicken was our fav, staff was friendly & service was quick. We ended up spending 3 hours making some incredible memories!

Google
This was a great bar to dine in too. The menu for the food was diverse, plenty of sandwiches to pick from. It also included vegan and vegetarian options to which makes it very open to all people that want to eat here. The service was tremendous, great with the food and drinks. We got our food and drinks in a time span, letting us chill and relax for a bit. The waitress we got was very nice and straight forward with our order. Atmosphere was relaxing and chill, there was an outdoor area with a bunch of people along with the inside being filled too. There was chill music that kept everyone outgoing and happy, they had TV’s that had a movie going on that’ll also keep you busy. They have darts and shuffle board for people to play at the back of the bar which is nice for people who want to enjoy their time there aside from drinking and eating. Last but not least, they also have a fish tank to look at! Overall: 4.5/5 - amazing, must go!

Yelp
This place is a must visit! The bartender was great, helpful, friendly and easy going. The cocktails were simple but delicious and the food was my kind of fancy junk food. We tried so many different things and it was all great! They even have a vegan menu, for those who are and it looked pretty decent. Would recommend!

Yelp
Gord and I had supper last evening at Pennies (on Strachan Avenue/Adelaide Street W). We wanted to sit on the patio but it was crowded so we sat inside. Gotta love complimentary popcorn! We ordered the 3 sliders/tater tot combos. We both got a Creamy Garlic Fried Chicken' slider (iceberg, pickles, creamy garlic sauce - mine without iceberg) and a Korean Fried Chicken' slider ('slaw, KFC sauce, mayo, sesame - mine without slaw). Gord got a Filet Au Fish slider (pickles, iceberg, dill ranch) and I got a Classic Hamburger slider (pickles, ketchup, mustard). All were good. There were lots of tater tots and we took most home ... there are enough for a couple meals! Kyra took good care of us.

Yelp
Pennies is a good and fun time! I used to avoid it because it seemed too busy all the time, except for the one time I finished work early and arrived around 4pm. However, I came last month at around 7pm on a weeknight with quite a sizeable group and they were able to seat us inside at 2 tables next to each other without needing to wait too long. I think tuesday was "top shelf tuesday" as well -- which meant a discount of some sort off top shelf liquor! Definitely check out their website for the deal of the day. Drinks are good and fun and reasonably priced for a city, IMO. Food also was super fun and tasty! I think the hardest part of ordering food here is choosing which sliders to get. I misremembered and thought I'd definitely need a full combo in order to be full, but I ended up needing to share one of the sliders away and couldn't even finish my tater tots. The establishment itself is in a cute building (washrooms down the stairs!) but be warned, it gets really warm inside in the summer months. By the time we were all done eating and drinking, we were ready to be back outside because it was much warming inside than outside at that point in the night. Overall, highly recommend Pennies, even for a decent sized group!

Yelp
Even though I came here in the midst of a break up and no appetite from being sick, I still could appreciate that the food was good. And how could it not be worth it for that price!

Yelp
Every time we pass by this place during after work hour there's always a long line. So we decided to check it out. During their happy hour, they have a good selections of drinks for a great price! The sliders are okay, I think my favourite is the Korean fried chicken. Their tots are unbeatable! We had a weird encounter when we stopped by, it wasn't busy or crowded during the time we arrived. But yet our server seated us (3 people plus a dog) at table that had other customers, which made us feel uncomfortable (there were empty tables). We had to request to be moved. Everyone after us didn't get to get seated to a table with customers. The service was ok. The server was attentive and kept asking if everything was good, it also made us felt rushed to some senses as she kept asking if we need anything else every so often. Overall, the place is a vibe, and it's a good spot to hang out with friends during the summer.
google avatar

Marilyn A.

Yelp
We came here with a group of about 15 people from work around 7pm on a Tuesday night. They graciously figured out a way to seat us all at two tables inside within about 15 minutes. The building is in a nice residential area too. Most of us got the combo no.5 with any 3 sliders and tots. I got the cheeseburger (classic and best) the nashville hot chicken (solid) and the po'boy. It was a lot of food and I didn't finish all the tots or all the buns. All in all, I highly recommend Pennies for a quick bite in a cool spot.

Yelp
Great value, nice big tables and patio makes for a great place to spend a Saturday or to grab food before a night out.

Yelp
Overall: 3.5/5 We arrived around 8:00 pm on a Friday night and there was a line outside with multiple groups. The hostess told us that it would be approximately a half hour wait, but we were seated before then. The outdoor patio is quaint and fun, with string lights and fun yellow picnic tables. Pennies offered complimentary self-serve popcorn, and a menu containing an assortment of sliders and tots. I ordered the Combo No. 5 (choice of 3 sliders + O.G. tots), and picked the bacon cheeseburger, creamy garlic fried chicken, and korean fried chicken. The chicken sliders were crispy and tasty, with my favourite being the creamy garlic. However, the cheeseburger was very dry and only came with mustard. The burger itself was nothing special and reminiscent of a McDonalds value menu burger. The popcorn was too salty, but may have been an off batch that night. Individually, the sliders are quite expensive for their size ($5.69/each), but not bad for the $20 combo if you're looking for a cheap bite and a place to grab a drink with friends. On Monday nights, their combo is half-priced for under $10. I'd recommend coming on a day where you could take advantage of their deals.
google avatar

Bailey G.

Yelp
I would say that this place is worth the hype! The food was very good and reasonably priced and VERY filling! We had the 6 slider combo and the cali valley tots and we could've just done the combo as it was a lot of food! It was fun getting to try a bunch of different sliders and the buns were next level. The restaurant has a retro feel and offers free popcorn while you wait. They have lots of happy hour and late night deals as well.
google avatar

Adrienne F.

Yelp
Free popcorn. Tater tots were good and a cool surprise cus usually restaurants only have fries. Ambiance is cool whether you sit inside or out. Had to wait in line for 30 minutes for a group of 6 on a Saturday at 8pm. Got busy fast as expected!
google avatar

Sherrona T.

Yelp
Let me just start off by saying the best tater tots! They were super crispy and just melted in your mouth. If you are looking for a cheap spot to go out with friends this is your spot! We came during their happy hour (3-5pm) and while they were having their Monday special. The happy hour deal was $5 doubles, $2 PBR cans and free popcorn! The Monday special half-off combo No.5 which was 3 sliders of your choice and tater tots for $9.75. SUCH A STEAL. The 3 sliders we picked were Creamy Garlic Fried Chicken, Harlem Chopped Cheese Steak & Southern Honey Fried Chicken. We also got the Supreme Tots as well. I went with my sister and we were super full with everything we got. Out of the sliders, my favourite was the Southern Honey Fried Chicken it is truly so so so delicious. I recommend you get this one when you visit! Our server was super quick, generous, and took care of us very well! The bathroom was also clean and it is located downstairs. I will be back to pennies and will be bringing more of my friends!

Yelp
Years ago (2017) I wrote a review of this place when it was Broncos. I noted at the time that it also had the advantage of opening earlier than other bars. "So in a town where a lot of places stick to that most protestant habit of opening at 5, only after everyone has put in a virtuously full-day of work, Broncos lets us be more the judge of just when the day's work is done." A lot has gone on since 2017 but I still stand by this statement. The patio is also pretty nice. There are not a lot of neighbourhood patios that face the street - it gives it a good open vibe. People seem to come here to drink and there you have it. Good spot.
google avatar

Yelp
Great spot for a Friday evening.. Cute concept of sliders of all varieties (catering to dietary needs as well). Love the vibe of the place - it was certainly busy that evening. We each did a combo which is three sliders and tater tots for just under $20. It doesn't sound like a lot of food but it ended up being perfect, if not a bit too much. Decent beer on tap at decent prices. Oh and free popcorn. Worth checking out!

Yelp
Cheap drinks & great hang out spot! Was here on a Thursday night to catch up with some friends. As a first timer here I was so impressed with their menu items! All I can say is, cheap drinks and cheap food! Patio is still open in September and has lots of seating outside. The spot is adorable with the exterior building and tables all in yellow! It's hard to flag down any wait staff here, but you really can't complain with the price you get here. Cocktails are $7 for a single and $10 for a double - so affordable! I found myself loading up on the basil smash all night, tasted delicious and refreshing! An extensive list of sliders to choose from. They're small, but a great price at $5.50 per slider that pairs even better with their tater tots there. Get the El Paso Melt slider and baja fish taco - it was amazing and adorably sized. Poutine tater tots were also great, I mean, who doesn't like cheese curds and gravy? Popcorn is free and self served inside the bar. As the night went on, you can find lots of people lining up to enter the patio. It's a great local spot for some cheap drinks, catch up chats and cheap eats! Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
THIS IS HOME! I can't believe that I've lived in Toronto, walking distance from here for 5 years and it took me this long to stop by. Lets say that since I have (because my review is coming so late) that I have brought so many more friends here. 1) the service is always amazing 2) you get your bang for your buck - every slider I have had, I literally cannot complain about 3) free popcorn 4) look at their daily specials -- MONDAY is now my favourite day to go.
google avatar

Yelp
I really liked the vibe in here - super chill and relaxed. The food was amazing and drinks were strong and good! I will definitely be back. A hidden gem and cool place to bring friends.

Yelp
A decent patio experience, but a little overrated for how much people rave about it. I'll start by saying this, Pennies a great spot to come and spend with friends, grab some drinks, and eat some finger food. But, I do believe that people who call this the best patio in Toronto are stretching it. Pennies has become a very popular patio option to the point there is almost always a line to be seated. We had waited approximately 30 minutes for a seat for two, but with how the patio is layer out, you'll have to share a table with other people or sit on high chair facing the street. I'm not too big a fan of the patio itself as the surrounding area isn't anything special. The ambience does get nice when the sunsets and the lights come on, but I think during sunset is when the vibe feels best. The service her is decent, host/hostesses are friendly but sometimes struggle to take care of the line up. The servers are decently quick, but there was two instances of our order being brought incorrectly or needed us to re-ask the same request again. As for the food, I think the best part is the tater tots. Especially the supreme tots, if I came here and wasn't in the mood for sliders, I would definitely order the tots by themselves with a drink, as for the sliders, I feel this is where people exaggerate how good they are. After having one or two, they all start to taste underwhelming/ tasting the same as others. The bacon cheeseburger slider was very boring and did not taste too good. I think the chicken options were the best we had. Overall I cannot deny Pennies is a great experience, but I personally wouldn't do a date here again but instead come with 4+ friends because due to everybody else talking, it's hard to have 1-on-1 conversations.
google avatar

Yelp
Very inexpensive beer. Pennies open very late. They have lots of seats on the patio and inside. Service was pretty good. We ordered couple pitcher of beers. I have noticed the beer is somewhat watered down but I like it that way because it is less hoppy tasting. They do not serve food after certain time. We showed up at around 10:30 pm and we were told no food. So we only got drinks. They serve their own beer.
google avatar

Christine M.

Yelp
Super relaxed, unpretentious bar for EZ drinks and snacks, with lovely, friendly servers and cheaper booze than you'll find anywhere else nearby. A couple of cheaper house beer selections. A few bucks more will get you good standard tap selections plus rotating ones from Blood Brothers, Bellwoods, and Great Lakes. Long list of creative and yummy sliders, meat, vegan, and even keto (swap the li'l bun for a tiny piece of lettuce) - mostly in the $5 range. Things like buffalo chicken, kimchi beef... even "Festive Special" after the Swiss Chalet classic meal. Come summer, this place has the best and brightest patio around. Terrific place for a hangout!

Phoenix M.

Yelp
Busy spot, and best to go in during slower times. A Toronto staple with great light food options that don't cost an arm and a leg. Also, unlimited free popcorn? How can you say no?
google avatar

Gerald W.

Yelp
Came here on a Monday with some friends. It was kind of packed so we sat outside on the patio. I ordered an ginger ale, it took so long to get to me. It looks like they forgot my drink order. Anyways, I got three sliders: Korean fried chicken, Baja fish taco and creamy fried chicken. They come with potato tots. The sliders were just ok. Nothing special to write home about. Not sure if I want to come back.
google avatar

Zeynep K.

Yelp
Long story short: I wanted to like this place but these sliders, although tiny and adorable, just didn't make the cut with me. Long story long: I ordered these via a delivery service, so my review may be affected by that, versus eating it fresh in person. You can taste that "fast food" flavour, which to me is that old, oily, over-fried taste. I loved that I had the option to pick and tailor 3 different sliders as part of the combo, but these small burgers were not that tasty. The presentation was beautiful and organized. The ingredients tasted fresh (the buns were great and pleasantly squishy), but there was an off after taste - maybe the type of oil they used? It masked everything. There also wasn't enough meat. The tater tots were good, but eating too many brought on that same taste. In a pinch, maybe. I'd give them another chance.
google avatar

Arya K.

Yelp
We went for the all you can eat cheeseburgers, tater tots and popcorn. They were delicious but beware, there are no substitutions for AYCE cheeseburgers. Food was super filling. The service was pretty slow as there was only 2 waitresses.
google avatar

Victoria F.

Yelp
Cheap drinks galore! And they're not light-handed on the booze either!!! Double win. Love how they have such a variety of sliders! Also huge fan of the small snack portion sizes cus then you can have all the flavours. I just also rly like tater tots to begin with so... these were a hit for me. Taste-wise... they're alright - you get what you pay for LOL. A great place to come to with friends as a little pre-drinking and for the snack foods.
google avatar

Hailey P.

Yelp
Pennies is overall such a great fun vibe!!!! Long list of delicious cocktails and beers. The food is actually tasty with so many options whether you're vegetarian, vegan or eat everything forgot to take pictures since I was enjoying the vibes too much.
google avatar

Jen A.

Yelp
For the vegetarians in the room: there are lots of veggie sliders to choose from, and they're super delicious! I ordered a trio and it was so filling that I didn't even need any tater tots. Veggie cheeseburgers (chuck and regular) and Korean Fried Chicken-ish sliders are all recommended! As for ambiance, this place is just super comforting. On the bar TVs, they were playing old episodes of Fresh Prince and Home Improvement-- nostalgia central! Lastly, it was pouring outside so we had to eat indoors; I was a little nervous about it but our server asked for proof of vaccination right when we came in, so that was really reassuring!
google avatar

John W.

Yelp
Emily was a steallar server. She was attentive and kind. It was our first time at pennies and she was so helpful pointing out deals and her favourite items. And her outfit was so cool to! Love the style.
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
Cheap drinks, sliders and tots sign me up! A great place to stop by during the summer, I love their patio. Service was a bit slow but overall love the vibes
google avatar

Larry C.

Yelp
I've come here a couple times with either my gf and friends and it's always a good time! The Monday special is awesome and the sliders are flavorful. I really like atmosphere in here
google avatar

M A.

Yelp
Nice little neighbourhood find, their sliders are great and their beers are nice. Their cocktails are ok'ish, and the wait list can get quite long, but it's worth the wait if you are after a casual meal and some beers. Their OGtaters, are nice and clearly a house special given the number of people that order them.
google avatar

Owen R.

Yelp
Great old time feel inside. Great signage. Took way too long for a bartender, only downside. Nice patio as well.
google avatar

Menka W.

Yelp
Cool spot, low key but in a great location (near Trinity Bellwood's). We went for a birthday party, and tried a ton of sliders and all the tater tot flavours. My favourite were the spicy ones, with chillis. They also provide free popcorn on each table to snack on. The prices for the sliders and tots are very reasonable, and they really do load them up! The cocktails ($5 for 1 ounce) were also nice. I tried the Gin Fizz and the Margarita, both of which I enjoyed a lot. The ambiance is really cool. They played old TV shows in the background (Home Improvement, Fresh Prince) and had a vending machine with old / obscure treats. Really cool. The string lights on the patio were also really romantic, and the more I walked around, the more details I noticed. Great spot!
google avatar

Reggy S.

Yelp
Went to Pennies (Bronco's) for the first time last night; we sat on the patio, and had an awesome time. We ordered Baja Shrimp Tacos (so many tacos), the Southern Honey Fried Chicken, and the Buffalo Fried Chicken and countless drinks and our bills only came up to $45 each - including a generous tip. The service is wonderful; they're just the right of attentive and are so very nice to talk to. The other patrons are also very chill. I can't wait to go back!
google avatar

KT B.

Yelp
Surprised my husband with a trip to the city to see a Cirque du Soleil show this past May. Dinner was a must and this patio was so quaint, inviting and totally vibing! The weather was great along with the music and service! Our server was super kind. We ordered some poutine, 4 sliders and had a couple drinks! Free popcorn while we waited. Happy hour was going so we enjoyed $2 beers! We left so happy and stuffed. Definitely will return in the future! Thank you for a great dining experience guys!
google avatar

Reen P.

Yelp
There are many patios not only here for me I won't be back there for sure 1000%. A lot of restaurant have to handle this new normal as well but they don't charge 2 bucks a seat . To be honest, there are many cool patios better than here. Good luck for 2 bucks hope it runs your business.
google avatar

Irene T.

Yelp
I love the rustic feel of Pennies! Incredibly nostalgic with real genuine people. We had a beer and a couple of their bacon and cheese sliders (a light snack before dinner or some may say pre-gaming for dinner). I love their caramelized onions, such a nice touch! The burger patty, you can definitely taste it was homemade with tender loving care! We're planning on making a return soon! Keep up the great job, Pennies!
google avatar

Alina J.

Yelp
The food was tasty, service was quick, cheap food and drink menu. The place is small and had a nice cozy ambiance

Nick H.

Yelp
Loved it here. Can't wait to come back. Really liked the patio. And the food was fantastic.

Ana C.

Yelp
I really like this place. The vibe is very relaxed , food is good and cheap. Service could get better it's slow and they need to know the menu better.

Yelp
Terrible online ordering system and even worse customer service. Food is mediocre at best. I ordered food online to pick up at Pennies and was double-charged. I tried to call the restaurant immediately to notify them of the issue and there was no answer and a full voicemail box, indicating they never answer their phone. When I went to the restaurant, I explained to the server that I had only ordered 2 combos instead of the 4 they charged me for. She went to speak to the manager who told her to tell me there was "nothing they could do" and directed me to call their 3rd party billing (point of sale system) Touch Bistro. After many frustrating phone calls, I later learned Touch Bistro only deals with the merchant and not with customers. Again, I couldn't get a hold of anyone by phone at Pennies to rectify this. I was finally able to get in touch with someone in management over email who said there was nothing wrong with their online ordering system and couldn't offer me a refund for half of my money. All they offered was a dining credit back at the restaurant and blamed me for ordering incorrectly. I did not order incorrectly. Even if I did, there should be a way to communicate with the restaurant about this issue. But again they do not answer their phones and their manager refused to speak to me in person. I ordered from Pennies as a treat to myself on my last day of work as a frontline health care worker before leaving for maternity leave. I live 30 km away and am not going back to Toronto as I am nearly 8 months pregnant. I'm now left fighting the transaction with my credit card company because of their poor management and customer service. I've told all my coworkers and friends about how terribly managed this place is and none of them will be coming back. If a $40 refund is a setback for this place, I don't expect it to be open much longer. I wish they'd spend more time answering their phones than responding to their online reviews.

Alex I.

Yelp
Big fan of this place, great for either a lighter snack or for filling up with all options served in a 'slider' form - the 8 sliders with tater tots for 35$ deal is perfect for filling 2 of you and at a great place! Oh without doubt their 'tot' game is up there with the best too but if don't like tots then grow up! Not really a big corn dog fan usually but theirs is a knockout and doesn't leave you feeling sick after as some can Beer selection is good too and the prices for a spirit & mix are very appealing! PS - free popcorn and non judgemental eyes when you have multiple bowls
google avatar

Alexandra E.

Yelp
I love pennies! Every bar should have tater tots, such a fun snack idea. The Sicilian slush and aperol spritz were delicious. Pretty large patio with a relaxed atmosphere, I haven't tried the sliders but I'm sure they're delicious!
google avatar

Graeme P.

Yelp
Forgettable burgers, awful management. `Long story short, I used to work at a food truck that did a better slider for a fraction of the price. I guess if you like Hipster burger joints that put more effort into their cringy Instagram account, neon light fixtures, and sub par meal selection, then this place was made for you. Flakey management left me feeling bitter about my entire experience there.
google avatar

Emily H.

Yelp
This place is IT for me. Kind of hidden location which honestly is a plus for me and the bright yellow exterior makes it easy to spot. The patio is a great spot to chill if you've been walking around queen west for hours in the sun. Inside is nice and cozy for when it's cold out. Food A+. I've tried the cheeseburger, the fried chicken sandwich, shrimp taco and the chili cheese tater tots. True I could just make tater tots at home but something about being able to eat this comfort food in public just feels right. The honey fried chicken is soooo tasty - highly recommend. They have a great selection of local beers on tap and they rotate fairly often. Cocktails are delicious and strong! Really fairly priced for the quality (especially rare in Toronto).

Matisse B.

Yelp
A great place for cheap drinks and great sliders! Loved the fish tank too Highly recommend for a fun night with dive bar vibes
google avatar

Daniel D.

Yelp
Cool vibe if you're looking for something low key and no frills. Everything on he menu is a slider and is under $5, make sure you try the fried chicken and cheese burger. Pretty tasty. I'll probably be back when the patio re-opens for their mickey bottle service option.

B R.

Yelp
Pennies had overpriced apps, the standard run of beers, and a neighbourhood-ruining atmosphere. Even with no one there they play mediocre music on their loudspeakers, to the dismay of anyone trying to enjoy a walk in the area.
google avatar

Drupad A.

Yelp
Nice patio. Good prices on Beer. Did not really try the food there. Overall nice atmosphere .

Lisa M.

Yelp
Had a corn dog hankering that was nicely filled with a take-out order, placed using Uber Eats. Got Combo 5, which consisted of 3 sliders of your choice. I picked 2 corn dogs and 1 cheeseburger that comes with a heap of tasty tater tots. The corn dog batter was great and this meal size was very filling, especially given the generous portion of crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside tots. The burger was tiny but still good with a smashed patty and potato bun. My order was filled quickly, and service at the outside window was fast and friendly. I am sure it is a fun place in the summer, with outdoor seating and drinks. I will be back with guests, when that is possible again.
