"Penn Amarapayark’s hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant makes everything, down to the curry, from scratch. Try larb made with ground meat, spice, and rice-powder salads; marinated Thai barbecued chicken on the bone; and green curry with shrimp." - Janna Karel

"Located inside a strip mall, chef Penn Amarapayark makes everything from scratch, including her curries, at Penn’s Thai House. Start with the nam som salad of ground pork with ginger, onion, peanuts, and lime. Or start with Thai barbecued chicken with just a hint of lemongrass, and add the spicy papaya salad with shrimp." - Janna Karel

There are so many things that I like about Penn's Thai House. The food is delicious, the service is excellent and the prices are extremely reasonable. That's the broad overview so I'll drill down a bit. Last night, I went to the movies with my daughter and the movie didn't end until 8:30. We drove straight over to the restaurant after, hoping the'd be willing to take a to-go order 15 minutes before closing. They asked us if we would prefer to dine in. I said we would but we didn't want to keep them. They said they'd seat guests right up until closing time. We were delighted. We have been turned away from other Thai restaurants (Archi's) half an hour before closing and they refused to even take a to-go order so the invitation to dine in so late in their day was much appreciated. I've now eaten there twice and each time the food has been fresh, well prepared and delicious. The person serving us has been friendly and helpful and the fact that their prices are very reasonable and they are located near where we go to the movies frequently makes this a solid win for us. Great spot, highly recommend!

Among the Thai restaurants I've visited in Vegas, this one stands out as the best. It has a whole and a wall vibe. Every dish we tried was delicious, and the portions were generous. The service was excellent with attentive staff. I would definitely come back.

I’m not usually in the Henderson/Boulder highway area but I was craving some Panang and thought I’d try this place out. Firstly I love Asian cuisine partly because of the service alone, while eating by myself im grateful to be in a quiet calm atmosphere with staff being culturally meek and gentle. When I first found the place it definitely gives hole in the wall vibes so that was exciting, the prices are great compared to most Thai restaurants and the Thai tea was so good. It did take a little while for the food to come out but I didn’t mind as I’m not in a rush. The chicken Penang was 13$ a little sweeter than what I’m used to but all flavors are there, I got medium spice and I wanna say that’s usually a little spicier at other restaurants but still v delicious, I’d say definitely worth trying if this is your area!!

Google
Local Thai gem of a dive is fully deserved of its reputation for quality authentic Thai cuisine. The Pad Thai was delicious even without the usual crushed peanuts. Chicken satay was marinated full of flavor and perfectly grilled (if I were to nitpick, the accompanying peanut sauce could be less salty and more nutty.) The crispy garlic chicken is a refreshing non-spicy take on the General Tso’s found in other places. On top of it all, it’s a great value including the Thai iced teas. Definitely one of the best in the area.

Google
This is the best Thai food I’ve ever had. I’m going to start with the star of the show which was the Thai Tea. To say it was delicious is an understatement. Food wise we got the Golden Shrimp as an appetizer. Then we got the Tofu Pad Thai, Chicken Pad Thai, and a small side of sticky rice as the main course. We finished our stay with the Mango Rice for dessert. There is literally nothing to complain about. The food was amazing, portions were rather large, and everything came out in a timely manner. It seemed like a lot of people order delivery/pick-up here. We ate inside the restaurant and it was great. Everything was clean, the fish tank was fun because the fish kept eyeing us, and service was incredible. Overall, this hole-in-the-wall gem is a must eat-at for anyone living in or staying in Vegas!

Google
It's highway robbery for how much they charge for entrees, but the portions aren't matching up to expectations. I ordered takeout which you have to call to figure out what they have because they don't have a website and online menus aren't up to date. I got the stuffed chicken wings, beef pepper steak, and fried rice. The stuffed chicken wings had imitation crab in them which isn't on the menu and is hazardous to me because I'm allergic. The fried rice was good no complaints there, but the beef pepper steak was highly underwhelming for the portion size. The entree was the dinner portion and was $15 dollars for barely a serving size for two. The entire meal wasn't worth $50 with a tip.

Food was fast and good. Service was friendly and patient.

Great food. Great service. Probably more for take out then dine in.

Yelp
Just tried Penns for the first time. Food is amazing. Garlic chicken , shrimp pad Thai, spring rolls and yellow curry is delicious. I will definitely be back to try different dishes.

Yelp
I've been coming to this little hole in the wall Thai place for years. I have always said this place does not get the attention it deserves! The food here is sooooooo good. Their vegetable Panag is to die for. I have been an addict of this dish for years. Lol. I've tried many things on the menu and have never been disappointment. The restaurant in itself is not the nicest but the service is great and the workers are so nice and attentive! I usually order carry out but the few times I've ate in house, it's either empty or really packed. Never had any issues with parking. Everything is reasonable priced. I always recommend this place to my friends and family :)

Renee B.

Yelp
I love Penn's! The restaurant itself isn't very impressive but we order takeout and the food is consistently excellent, generous portions, plus, the servers are wonderful. Our favorites include: Chicken fried rice Egg rolls Yellow curry with chicken Crispy garlic chicken Mongolian beef Thai tea Their meat and veggies are fresh and flavorful. We've never tried anything we didn't like.

Cori F.

Yelp
I stopped here for takeout after a hike. The spring rolls had a wonderful crisp but not the best flavor. The flavor was just okay. The chicken satay was tasty with a nice peanut sauce. The pad Thai looked amazing but really lacked flavor and was disappointing. The staff was super nice and got me my takeout very quickly.

Yelp
Best place to get Thai in Henderson. It looks like a crappy place in a strip mall but it's better than it looks. Penn's Thai House is known for having shit that's incredibly spicy. A bad thing if it's already hot outside. Thankfully they were good with getting the water. A pretty nondescript looking place in a crummy strip mall off Sunset in some industrial area. It's the kind of place that looks like only locals know of. This was a great find though. Okay prices. We got a few things that were vegan. It's about $12 for an entree. Pretty okay for the big portions. I got the Cashew Nut. This is a choice of protein with carrots, onions, and special chili paste. Hot stuff and that wasn't even adding any spice to it. The vegetarian choice is tofu. For sure it's better than it looks. It's a small place with a big menu. There's plenty to get for vegans and vegetarians.

Yelp
Food is so good!! If you dine in, you are hardly very alone no matter what time of the day you go. Large portions and staff always friendly. It's a simple place to stay at with friends/family or anyone you want to sit and talk to with minimal interruptions.

Yelp
Mood- Lil Celebration You know those moments that you take for yourself? The ones where you go outside of your comfort zone? The ones where you don't listen to that voice in your head that tells you NOT too? Well I moved past all that and did something that was needed. I took that leap despite the fear. And because of my efforts it was time for a Lil Celebration. And y'all know me by now, I celebrate over food. Upon entering was quickly greeted and ushered to sit wherever I chose. Menus were given and drink order was taken. Opted for the Cashew Nut Chicken, Pork Chow Mein, Pork Fried Rice, and of course a Thai Tea. Can I say why did I need a Celebration to come in here? 100%. This place was on point with the dishes I chose. Everything was very well prepared. Interior has several booths and a long family style table in the middle. Music was playing in the background. Everything was very clean. Would most def recommend- pricing for the portions and quality was reasonable. The customer service was beyond hospitable and courteous. I really should have came in here a long time ago. It is a true hidden gem. Location is Sunset/ Gibson - ample parking

Melina A.

Yelp
Delicious, pad thai. Stumbled upon it looking for Thai in the area, realized it's so close to home. Holes in the wall are the best. The ingredients were fresh. I can't wait to go back and have their other dishes!

Fred A.

Yelp
Went to Penn's based on the yelp reviews. They are accurate. Really good place. The food was very good. The pad Thai and satay were flavorful and delicious. Also enjoyed the crab rangoons. They were light and crispy. We enjoyed everything. The server was kind and attentive. They need to clean the fish tank.

Therese A.

Yelp
Authentic Thai food in Henderson. Nothing glamorous about the restaurant but it's clean, has good food and good service. The menu has quite a selection and price points are decent! Stop on by & enjoy an easy meal.

Dymond G.

Yelp
I love the Yellow Curry! I've only ordered for pick up and the service is always friendly when I call and my order is always correct! So far my favorite Thai in Henderson

Glady A.

Yelp
This is our 2nd visit to Penn's thai house and food was still amazing! We ordered the shrimp pad thai, their special garlic crispy duck, and crab fried rice and all were excellent! The garlic crispy duck was my favorite as it was unexpectedly delicious. We thought it was like fried chicken type menu but it was actually like orange chicken type of dish! The sauce was soo good! Sweet, hot, and crispy! Must try! The crab fried rice was also amazing as they make it was real crab meats and a large portion! Lastly, the shrimp pad thai was also delicious and savory! The ambiance is very chill and the service was quick! Friendly staff and they helped us with any questions we had. Definitely will be back for more.

Yelp
Pros Good food Cons -Awful customer service -long wait even though I was here when it opened -when I got my bill it was under $15. I tried to pay with my credit card and the waiter said "cash only under $15". So then I had to order to more to reach that amount. Tips - spend over $15 to use credit card - get ready for long wait times for service Verdict -definitely won't be returning here

Malise S.

Yelp
My husband and I tried this restaurant years ago and never went back so we decided to give it another go. I realized why we hadn't gone back as we ate hard and dry fried rice and Pad Kee Mao that was also dry.

Stephanie L.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch and had the most authentic Thai cuisine. Definitely recommend if you are in the area. It is a small mom & pop, but the dishes were flavorful and delicious!

Audry P.

Yelp
Great for to-go orders/take out. Small restaurant in a strip mall, but the food is amazing, flavorful, and in decent proportions. I ordered a beef salad, where the beef was VERY tender and juicy, the lettuce was crisp and fresh and it was delightfully spicy (level 7) Highly recommend, and easily can be a go-to for quick and delicious Thai near my home. Wish they had delivery options!

Korey S.

Yelp
Fantastic Food!, One of the best Panang Curries I have ever had! great authentic food! summer rolls are Killer!! Great service! Thanks!!

Lauren M.

Yelp
The food is amazing we love it and would rate this place 5 stars BUT we only get take out because sitting in the restaurant with the fish tank that almost ALWAYS has dead fish in it and is never clean makes us physically ill. It's very hard for us to even go in to pick it up because the fish tank is the first thing you see when you go in.

Daxx V.

Yelp
This is one of the best kept secrets in Las Vegas. If you ever have a chance to go to this out-of-the-way hole in the wall restaurant that will save you a ton of airfare to Bangkok do not miss this. Everything is excellent even the garlic fried chicken wings with the sticky sweet sauce that is just incredible. Everything else is done well too. There's nothing I've ever had there that isn't good your question is my combination pad not working so don't miss it if you're in town or if you're local one of the places you go .....I live on the other side of town and make a point of it when I'm in Henderson to go down to Penns Thai house Penn has all the personality of a dead carp, but I'm not there to slow dance with her or anything. She's an excellent cook and the people in her kitchen are excellent cooks, the waiter is really personable so I guess that's the one you really talk to anyway

Kade M.

Yelp
Still love Penn's. This is a classic, mom and pop owned and operated restaurant. The food is fresh and authentic. Unlike every bloody commercialized restaurant chain, Penn's prices are still very reasonable. If you're looking for Thai/Asian cuisine, you've found a reliable location joint!

Melissa C.

Yelp
I can't believe I've never written our fav lil Thai spot a review. Nothing fancy in the dinning room BUT the food is phenomenal! I don't mean that lightly. We have tried SO MANY dishes and they are all so delicious. If you like spicy food, and you can handle it - THEY DO SPICY . Their papaya salad is delightful, the thai classics here are nothing short of amazing. The service is friendly, consistent and efficient. It's a little hole in the wall- no glitz, no glamour just amazing food

Adriana T.

Yelp
My husband and I went because a friend recommend it to us and we wanted to try Thai food again. Penn's Thai House is delicious. We ordered Pad Thai with chicken and Beef Pepper Steak. Also their Thai tea/ coffee is so yummy and addicting. I love how everything is put in the middle to share. The waiter was so friendly. It's small place but we felt at home. It had such a calm vibe, not noisey at all. Loved it! Will definitely be back. In fact my husband loved it so much he went back for lunch during the week. We 100% recommend. Thank you for everything!

Shawn B.

Yelp
Well I rate four stars so it's above average but not the best I've had. Definitely a place I would dine at again.

Greg H.

Yelp
Good food and conveniently located. The ambiance needs some work so we don't stay to eat, Just takeout.

Sarah-Jade S.

Yelp
The papaya salad definitely deserves 5 stars. Unfortunately, the other dishes we got were not great. I got Massaman curry which was very watery and light in curry flavor. My husband got the boat noodle soup which he felt had way too much blood, which caused a non pleasing texture on the noodles - almost like the soup scum hadn't been removed. The menus were quite dirty, as well as the fish tank in the front of the restaurant - you could even smell the algae. This which made us a bit concerned about the cleanliness of the kitchen. Really wanted to like this place, because we love Lao food - but sadly, we won't be back.

Minet L.

Yelp
Small restaurant, amazing food! Authentic Thai flavors, fresh and flavorful ingredients

Mackenzie F.

Yelp
4.5 stars! Kinda sketchy location.. but Pad See Mao was delicious. Take out was very quick. Dead fish are in their tank, unfortunately. And, the take out portion could have been bigger, but that's my big back self. Last thing, got the Thai Iced Tea, delicious.

Jamie H.

Yelp
I've driven by this place so many times and knew it had to be good because it has been open for so long. I finally stopped in today to get takeout. Service was great. I was greeted immediately, questions were answered, and he made sure I had everything I needed before I left. The food was delicious. The curry is flavorful and just the right amount of spice for me. I ordered 6/10 on spices. The papaya salad is exactly what I love!! Crunchy and spicy and maybe a little fishy, but in a good way. I ordered a 7/10 spice and it was perfect. The satay sauce (and there was a lot) was also delicious. There was a yummy little cucumber/onion salad that came with it as well. As for ambiance, it's a hole in the wall at a strip mall in an industrial-ish part of town. It's like many small town diners, taco shops, etc. I wouldn't have a birthday party there, but it's perfect for lunch or dinner with a friend. Plus, you don't get service like I had very often now-a-days.

Ben H.

Yelp
Just a series of unfortunate elements for a take out diner. Online prices don't reflect on a price increase yet. Yellow curry lacks flavor Not enough food for 11$ (eh, maybe with inflation it might be a reasonable price) Previous instance of dining here: 25$ per person and we ate merely two entrees and one appetizer. Pad Thai and some kind of curry with crab ran-goons. Simply put- I'll find somewhere else to eat

Ayla J.

Yelp
Was looking for a new Thai place and happened to run across this place. So glad I did! The customer service was great I felt so welcomed and the food was just as great I had ordered the chicken fried rice and it was yummmy! Will definitely be back

Beth A.

Yelp
Upon entering this restaurant my daughter and I experienced the overwhelming smell of smelly fish water. I assume it was from the fish tank with a dead fish in it. The restaurant is in need of modernizing. The walls are beat up and could use some paint. My daughter ordered the orange chicken and it was great. I ordered the pad Thai and it was flavorless. No spice. I wasn't a fan that the soda came in a can without refills. The only great thing about this restaurant was the service. The server was friendly and efficient.

Zee U.

Yelp
Flavor of the dishes are always on point! Authentic Thai Food!!! Only thing is the spice levels are not on point sometimes, aside from that - all is delish!!!

Teena S.

Yelp
This is a little hole in the wall place in a run down strip mall on the corner of Sunset and Middlegate Rd. But don't judge the book by the cover. The food that is made fresh to order, all homemade sauces made daily. This is the best food in Henderson, and it's hidden in the corner of a strip mall. The service is very authentic Thai, by the owner and his wife.

Malyna N.

Yelp
My husband and I have been loyal patrons of Penn's Thai House for an incredible 5 years, and we've never been disappointed. The consistency in their food, pricing, and flavor is truly commendable. Penn's Thai House consistently serves up authentic dishes that are bursting with flavor. One of the things we love most is the generous portion sizes, ensuring you leave with a satisfied appetite. The staff is not only efficient but also incredibly friendly, creating a warm and welcoming dining experience every time. If you're looking for a place that delivers authentic Thai cuisine without fail, Penn's Thai House should be at the top of your list. We can't wait to continue our culinary journey here for many more years to come!

Jazzica M.

Yelp
BEST THAI FOOD IN TOWN! SOOoo much flavor and goodness in one bite! We got the pad kee mao aka drunken noodles and the karna pad moo krob. Service is good and quick too. Highly recommend!

Denice C.

Yelp
But only for take out, the food is good , my husband enjoyed his meal. The garlic chicken was good and super sticky. We decided to stop in before going to the Christmas Color in Lights. The place is dated and not kept up. I felt sorry for the goldfish their tank was dirty and way low on water. The place has a smell and it's coming from the bathrooms I made sure to sit far away but it's so small you can't really escape it. I had to use the restroom and I almost hurled. So bad. Fix that man!! I give a three for dine in and 4 I guess for food but unfortunately we won't return as if they can't keep up the front I wonder what the kitchen looks like. They did have traffic so people do like it.

Elisa H.

Yelp
I've been ordering take-out from this restaurant for the past couple years. They are quick, efficient, and clean. Their prices are very reasonable. I usually order their chicken pad Thai with mango sticky rice. The pad Thai comes in a pretty big portion - I usually finish it in 2 sittings. And the mango sticky rice is absolutely delicious, every time. This restaurant is tucked away on a corner plaza by Sunset & Gibson so its easy to miss. It's across the street from some hardware facility. The staff is friendly and prompt too. Highly recommend!

Lara W.

Yelp
Really good Pad Thai! Lots of options on the menu, we found it very easy to call for takeout. We got the regular portion and it was not that much food, which is the only complaint. $15 of food is not enough to split between two people here, compared to other Thai places in the area.

Angelique A.

Yelp
Food is great. Dining in is not great. Nasty dirty fish tank. Seats are ripped and hard to sit on. Also, walls look yucky. Foid is awesome though just get it to Go!

Dennis R.

Yelp
Love this place. When I used to live in Las Vegas I would come here at least once a week and I was never disappointed. Great food and great service. Nice ambiance as well.

Monica V.

Yelp
I rated this place 3 stars because the food was okay I did really enjoy the tom yum soup that was my fave from this place service was pretty quick and fast its a small place in Henderson i will return for there soup i will give this place another try and update my review

L B.

Yelp
I have been happily enjoying Penn's for several years so this review is long overdue. The restaurant is convenient to my company so I regularly come here for weekday lunch. Do not let the location or exterior fool you. This is a hidden gem. The service has always been outstanding, even when they have a rush of customers. Prompt, kind and courteous. Every dish I have tried has been delicious! My favorites include egg rolls, summer rolls, fried rice, beef and broccoli, beef noodle soup, Thai basil chicken (kraprow), crispy garlic chicken. Their $9.95(!) lunch special includes egg drop soup, salad, egg roll, steamed rice and 11 options of entree. But all menu items are very affordable considering the quality. I like supporting small local mom and pop restaurants and Penn's deserves praise and success.

Erica S.

Yelp
Food was excellent! It was our first time in. We had yellow curry that my young son and I loved (and we have high standards when it comes to yellow curries). Husband had red curry, it had no bell pepper filler (a lot of places add excessive amounts of pepper and onion chunks to save on meat) and was also really tasty. In addition, we got chicken and broccoli and it was so clean and crunchy! Such a nice reprieve from greasy, over the top Vegas fare. I'm so grateful. Service was fast, our waiter was friendly and prices were very reasonable! True, at first impression, the menus are dirty and the place is a bit run down (algae fish tank), but don't let the cover of the book deter you. Penn's is authentic and tasty. I would come here again!

Ben N. Syder P.

Yelp

Brad D.

Yelp
Do not avoid because of the location In a run down mall on sunset this restaurant shines. Have had this on my places I need to try for a lot longer than I should have. Stay of with my only complaint, the dining area was uncomfortably warm. With that out of the way. Seating area pretty big. Welcomed as we entered and had our menus and water right away. Iced Thai tea was refreshing and tasty. Two orders of pad Thai and one mussaman curry later we departed full. Curry was smooth. not spicy for a spicy curry so I would ask for some more heat next time. Pad thao noodles not overcooked and a generous side of sprouts. Server was friendly and attentive. Glad I finally made it definitely on the places to keep going list

Christina S.

Yelp
This was my first time here. I got the crab fried rice and beef noodle soup. I went around dinner so it wasn't too busy. The crab fried rice was good, it was such a huge portion. Beef noodle soup tasted homemade, wish they had hoisin and sirarcha so I could add it but I just ate it plain. It was a cold night when I was out, the warmth from the soup was comforting. Can't wait to come back and try more food like their chicken basil, pad thai, and curry. Everything looked so good but I have the pallet of a kid lol. My servers were very friendly, they also give you a candy with your bill.

Nina S.

Yelp
The food always fresh and delicious . The owner always nice and remember my name when I placed order by phone .

Tiffany C.

Yelp
Tried this place with coworkers a couple days ago and I was impressed! Everyone loves their food at work and have been going for years, but this was my first experience with them. I ordered crab rangoons and summer rolls. I didn't want a super heavy lunch so I figured some items to share would be good. First off I noticed the packaging of the to-go boxes was incredibly thoughtful. Not only did my crab rangoons have foil to keep them warm, but the summer rolls were wrapped in foil to keep them cool! The rangoons were amazing. Cooked to perfection and the sauce was unique. It was almost a citrus sauce with pineapple or something similar. I am used to just a simple chile sauce or sweet and sour usually for rangoons, so to see something different was unexpected but welcomed. It was really tasty. The summer rolls were equally as good. My only complaint is they were a little over powered with mint. I had to pull a lot of mint out because it became too minty. The veggies were fresh and the rolls were packed to the brim. You definitely get your money's worth and the peanut dipping sauce was killer!
