Pennsport Beer Boutique Review - Pennsport - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Pennsport Beer Boutique is kind of like a beer store that you can drink at. It’s lined with fridges full of craft beer cans, both local and ones from small breweries all over the country, that you can mix and match to make a six-pack. And when it’s warm out, there’s also a big outdoor patio you can drink on." - Sydney McElwee

I had an amazing time at Pennsport Beer Boutique, and I have to give a special shoutout to Steven, the incredible bartender who made the night unforgettable! From the moment I walked in, Steven’s warm welcome and expert knowledge of the drink menu stood out. His recommendations were spot on, and every cocktail he crafted was perfectly balanced and full of flavor. Whether you’re in the mood for a classic or something unique, Steven’s skills behind the bar are second to none. The atmosphere at Pennsport Beer Boutique is top-notch—cozy, stylish, and the perfect place to unwind. But what truly makes this bar special is the service. Steven’s attention to detail, friendly personality, and passion for mixology take the experience to the next level. If you’re looking for a great spot with an excellent drink selection and a bartender who truly cares about your experience, Steven is your guy! Can’t wait to come back. Cheers!

We Love Charlie’s roast pork (now called JAXX) - this place + the beer garden is our go to hang out on nice nights! Great sandwiches, good beer selection, and just relaxing vibes all around. Just a solid, family friendly place to hang out - eat and drink.

Google
The 5 stars mostly goes for how friendly the staff was. We popped in for a pre-movie beer. The selection is good (not great) but you're likely to find something of interest. The bar is split with the restaurant half (though I think technically combined?) and I can absolutely see this place being PACKED for an Eagles game. Very reasonable pricing for beer. The service was superb. We happened to be there when AirBNB was there to take pictures and we requested not to be part of the photos. Not only were they super nice about it, they actually gave us free drinks for the "inconvenience" of having to move bars. And the vibe overall is great, very laid back but with tons of TVs bound to have whatever game you want to watch on. If you live in the neighborhood, this could easily be a go-to spot.

Google
Their beer selection is awesome and the staff is helpful and passionate about their selection. They have a lovely outdoor area with hammocks, board games and rustic charm. There is food available too, it's actually from the restaurant across the street, Cafe Valentina. The food from there was only alright but it was better than nothing. Props to the beer garden for being so innovative to get this kind of arrangement going!

Google
Love this beer boutique!!! You can grab a can or glass to drink there or a pack to leave with. They have amazing hours, there's usually a good crowd of people and cute dogs (it is dog friendly), and everyone is always extremely friendly. Highly recommend!!

Google
They always use the best, thick cuts of meat on their steaks. The bbq/hot sauce chicken cheese steak is by far the best in the city. Highly recommended for a pre-gamer!

Google
Awesome beer selection and outdoor seating. Really impressed by the number of cans and bottles to select from.

Great beer selection. Wide array of cans and bottles. Wonderful patio with picnic benches. Draft prices were quite reasonable.

Yelp
I really enjoy supporting local businesses especially those that serve beer! When I'm going to the movies in the area I like to stop and have a quick beer and a bite to eat. I especially like it here on a Monday's when they have a 1/2 off growlers. There's indoor out and outdoor seating you can also get specialty beers to go from the case and there's so much to choose from. I generally sit at the bar inside to get myself a couple samples of the new beers on tap just to help make a decision on what I'd like to take home. The staff is helpful, very efficient and friendly. The place is very clean well lit. Parking may be at a premium on certain days. What kept me from giving this business five stars is how food is ordered. I knew that they sold hotdogs because they're right on the counter next to the draft beer but I mentioned I needed a little more sustenance. ' we have a food menu you can order food' it was with other items next to the register. I had no idea it was food from across the street and it caused two different tabs. I should've been told is an advance in the end it was fine the pizza was good as was the beer but I would have preferred a heads up. If you use a credit card there is a $10 minimum if you get eight dollars worth of beer like I did it may have been a problem because I couldn't use my card for lack of cash! The items together were $24. When closing out trying to get to my movie the restaurant took an extended period of time bringing me my card back.

Yelp
Chill vibes flowing! Came here on a weeknight for a HH and was pleasantly surprised. Located in deep South Philly - this place provides the neighborly good times of summer. I got here around 7pm and found street parking fairly easily for the area and time. The spot is located next to a few other local businesses and they all seem to work with one another providing something different but complimentary. The inside is mainly one large bar that takes up most of the space. It's also a shop that you can purchase bottles or a six pack to go. Outside is where the magic is - with seating, lighting, and music flowing - providing that perfect quintessential back drop for a great relaxed time. You can order food while sitting out there and also bring your canine companion. When I was there, the night was perfect for a good ol' hang, and I could tell it was a favorite among regulars, as they stayed and enjoyed for a while into the night. Since I was here for HH, we had grabbed drinks at the bar and then hung outside with one another, but if you're hungry you can also order food - mainly bar fare and hoagies. The workers were stellar on making sure we were enjoying ourselves, constantly moving around, clearing tables, emptying trash, filling dog bowls, serving orders. It can get busy, but you don't really feel crowded since you're outside. Will definitely be back for a drink or two while the summer weather keeps up!

Yelp
When it comes to beer shops I've been to several that rise above Pennsport Beer Boutique as far as selection is concerned. But, with the exception of Bootle Bar East, Pennsport stands out for being the best beer shop with a connected bar, restaurant, and outdoor seating. Whenever I'm looking to grab a quick drink and chill outside or in with a good drink, PBB is my first destination due to the huge outdoor seating area, 1/2 priced drafts during happy hour Monday-Thursday from 5-7pm, and awesome beer tastings every Friday. But it also has a solid food menu that got even better with a addition of Charlie's, a lunch/dinner/brunch spot named for the owner's later doberman, that even hooks up Italian gelati (https://www.phillymag.com/foobooz/2019/03/05/charlies-sports-bar-pennsport/)! For beers on draft PPB always has a few standouts from the likes of Ommegang, Brewdog, and Graft Cider; and a couple locals from the likes of Workhorse and Love City. While its far from the best bottle shop selection that I've come across, especially for South Philly, the coolers do have some good standouts beers at decent prices that also add onto the in house drinking experience.

Yelp
I Love this place. I stopped into the roast pork / Cheesesteak place next door and was happily surprised to learn that I could walk 15 ft to PBB and choose from a really nice selection of cold craft beers. When I walked in I mentioned to the young man at the counter named Mike that I really like Jai Alai IPA. He made a suggestion of a similar style beer that was fantastic. He clearly knows his craft beers. The also carry an Oregon IPA that I am a huge fan of. They carry bottles, cans and even a handful of draft beers. I only wish there was a place as cool as this where I live. I will absolutely will be back on my next trip to the area. Cheers to Mike ! If you like craft beers, Please give them a try.

Yelp
The best place! The drinks A+. The food A++ and the staff A+++ Came here once on my way home. Everyone was so lovely that I make it a point to pick up beer here now. Michael is wonderful!

Yelp
Great local spot, and I'm excited to get back. Popped in with a friend who was attempting to order a hard to find African beer for a coworker who just moved back into town, and I was super impressed. Family-run, and the staff was friendly and knew their stuff. Great selection, lots of really cool, hard to find things. I snagged a few very special individual brews to go, and we had a pint in the beer garden and enjoyed some ballpark peanuts. We could have stayed all day, and we will very much be back. Awesome time.

Yelp
This place is amazing!! Cool vibe, huge selection, friendly and knowledgeable staff. This place is a great stop if you love beer or have a loved one who does!! They even allow you to bro g your canine friends!!

Yelp
This place has really cleaned up its act, literally. Under new ownership, they have cleaned up and added great things to their outside area (tvs, fans, new coverage, new lighting) . Also, the beer selection is now better than ever! Great *updated* addition to the pennsport neighborhood.

Yelp
Great business, run by better people. Live music on Friday and Saturday lightens the neighborhood and has a great balance of genre and loudness. Also excellent variety of beers, seltzers and ciders. Highly recommend the slushees.

Yelp
100% welcoming to new customers. Such a relaxing time. Definitely recommended for a chill sit down. Fantastic service and will be returning. The host brought every table complimentary food, which were unexpectedly amazing. If I could rate this a 6/5, I would. Food is good and reasonably priced.

Yelp
Overpaid and unsatisfied with server/bartenders service. Had a decent time the service was nonexistent, my friends and I each purchased multiple single beers, and the person working on Sep 29 2020 he had a mask only some times didn't allow us to have the 12 pack we bought after we each purchased multiple single brews, each brew was about $7 meanwhile 2nd and Reed has a bar called 2nd street which allowed me to buy a pack and chill on the premise. Go if you want to overpay for a mediocre time. It was raining and they had no service and they pushed us off guess they don't like a reliable business. Pay for an expensive beer somewhere else 2nd Street on 2nd and Reed is more chill and customer friendly

Yelp
This is beer garden/bottle shop/bar combo has been on my radar for quite a while. Finally made it last night on a walk around the city. I was glad to see it was as nice as I expected. The bottle prices here are a little higher than other comparable locations in the city. The happy hour special on drafts from 5-7 more than makes up for it at 1/2 price. Solid draft selection too; 8 different options rotating. They also do tastings from 6-9 on some nights to it's worth a drop by to try something new. They don't have on-site food preparation but will call for you and have food delivered - I saw and smelled some of the pizza delivered from across the street and it made my mouth water. Worth the mile and a half walk from home. I'll make the trek again soon for sure.

Yelp
Awesome beer selection and phenomenal outdoor space. Mike behind the bar is the goat. Go in and see for yourself. Sometimes there's live music and other times there's stand up. Love this spot 10/10

Yelp
I wanted to package this place up and bring it back to CT with me. I love this concept. It's like a bar popped up on an unused corner, with basically hand-built fencing and an outdoor area you'd expect to see in someone's backyard. The inside is tight without much seating, and the tap list leaves quite a bit to be desired, but the variety of bottles available was impressive. My sister and I had our nightcap here a few weeks ago and wanted to come back every day.

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
This place has a great selection of beers and a nice patio and bar; happy to have found it in the neighborhood. Also nice that they have both on-premise and carry out sales. Unfortunately when we bought a case of hard seltzers made buy a local company -- based on the suggestion of the bartender/salesman -- and found it to be absolutely undrinkable, they would not accept an exchange for something else. Very disappointing that they don't stand by their recommendations.
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
This is a really great little bottle bar, that distinguishes itself with a great outdoor seating place and an indoor bar. You can order from the bar or make a six pack and sit outside. There is a great selection and the owner is super nice and helpful! A big plus is that they allow dogs in side so bring your cute little furry friend!
google avatar

Andrea F.

Yelp
I live a block away and literally never come here. Not that there's anything glaringly bad about it, but there's nothing that great about it either that would make it my neighborhood go-to. The beer selection is really varied and you can drink what you buy on the premises. I've been able to discover new beers this way, which is awesome. But the prices are jacked so high - it makes it hard to justify buying a six pack that runs me close to $30. Staff is friendly and laidback. Vibe doesn't feel like a bar or a beer store, but something in between - a little too small and intimate for my liking. Outdoor seating and heat lamps are a nice touch (though with the prices I'd sooner buy cheaper beer somewhere else and drink on my own stoop). Look for the daily deals they offer - I think Mondays they have discounted growlers and Fridays between 7 and 9 there's free beer tasting or something like that. I did notice a sterno with mashed potatoes and the bartender/cashier mentioned that Caffe Valentino sometimes brings over free food and you can order from them and the Industry if you get hungry while you're drinking, which is pretty cool. Overall, it's decent if you're looking for some new beers to try but there's nothing all that exciting to keep me returning.
google avatar

Vinny P.

Yelp
I've been to the PBB a few times now and it's a very decent place to hang out and grab a brew. They have a small draft list and a medium sized wall fridge with a selection of bottles. Beer can be enjoyed on the premises which is a nice feature. Pro-tip #1, you can order food from Caffe Valentino across the street or from The Industry and it will be brought to you. The outdoor seating area is very nice if you can grab one of the covered spots. Pro-tip #2, there are deals to be found in that fridge case. In the times I've visited here I've left without spending a ton of cash. I like it here and I'll be back. It's walkable from my house and the staff is pleasant.

Yelp
Randomly checked out this place because it was close to the theater and OMG, everyone I met was amazing, a Parisian, Hussein, Cosimo, the owner, greeted me and the bartender, Marco, is not only SO CUTE, but has very good taste in beer. We ordered pizza from Caffe Valentino and we are def going to come back to the bar and the restaurant. I might be a bit tipsy but I'M DEF COMING BACK!!!

Tim P.

Yelp
I was so looking forward to this place. South Philly needs this place and the set up is great, and it will be awesome with the tables outside come Spring time... But it's just too expensive. Forget craft beer, they're charging $12 for a 6 pack of pbr pounders and $17 for a 6 pack of Heineken? And with craft beer it's all $4-5 a bottle with 10% discount in a 6 pack. No one is going to pay $25 a 6 pack. If they don't start getting more competitive pricing (take a look at foodery) I'll never shop there and neither will anyone else. Unless you're talking about top notch beer, you should be able to get a decent 6 pack for $15 and a domestic one for $7-9. Let me know when the prices drop (or they close. Because one of those things will happen soon.)
google avatar

Yelp
Easily the best bottle shop in Philly, and I've been to many. Why? Because owners Cosimo and Heather have managed to create something more than a simple bottle shop - With its lovely outdoor (but heated!) "beer garden" area and strong family/neighborhood vibe, Pennsport Beer Boutique is more akin to an Italian piazza than anything else. Go there on a weekend or an evening when the weather is nice and you'll see a crowd that includes young and old, groups of friends, neighborhood families with dogs and strollers, everyone laughing and talking and enjoying a type of camaraderie that's mighty hard to find elsewhere. The beer selection is fantastic, parking is plentiful and free (!!!), the service is super friendly and unpretentious, and you can even get a spectacular wood-fired brick oven pizza hand delivered to you from Caffe Valentino (Cosimo and Heather's stalwart Italian BYO across the street).
google avatar

Amanda F.

Yelp
Such a great place to relax and have a beer no matter what time of day. Great selection for both draft and take out beer. I highly recommend it no matter what you like to drink!
google avatar

Mike D.

Yelp
Great addition to the neighborhood! The staff was very helpful and friendly. They will be getting heat lamps for the winter and I look forward to enjoying the porch with a cold brew. They made great use of the space, with eight rotating taps and plenty of take out beer to choose from. You have the option to buy a beer from the cooler and drink it there or from one of their taps.
google avatar

Dana C.

Yelp
Best bottle shop in Philly. Have been here several times and no matter the season the outdoor patio is in service, even equipped with heaters and fire pits in the winter. Top the ambiance off with great selection, prices, and service and it's a perfect spot.

G. B.

Yelp
Nice little spot that's a bar/bottle shop hybrid. Okay to hang, and some good variety. Hit it up -especially when it's nice out (good outdoor patio).
google avatar

Brian M.

Yelp
Really fun place. Amazing selection. Indoor and outdoor seating. Great service. I'll be back soon. If you are looking for a few cool brews to take him or want to hang out on the patio and take in the Pensport sights, it's a great stop. Stopped by on a motorcycle outing and recommend it.
google avatar

Dustin B.

Yelp
Worst place to get beer. You ask if they have something in stock and they don't even pay attention to you. Then when they finally pay attention, they immediately say no we don't have it - WITHOUT BOTHERING TO LOOK IT UP.
google avatar

Sara H.

Yelp
It's my around-the-corner beer takeout place. Really nice owners, and great beer selection. The prices for some of the beers though is kind of high but I guess most bottle shops have that. Still, I come here probably more than my wallet allows. Overall, love this place.
google avatar

Kelly T.

Yelp
Pennsport Beer Boutique has a great draft and bottle selection, is dog friendly, and has a nice beer garden area outside with multiple picnic tables and a small, covered section for bad weather. Inside, all of the seats are high bar stools, so don't expect to be too close to your pet if you bring him or her. If you think of this like a bar instead of a bottle shop, it probably deserves four stars, but this is a bottle shop. As such, it must be reviewed as one, and the prices are just too sky high. Expect to pay for a beer here what you'd pay at a south Philly bar any given day of the week (i.e. $1-2 more than you would pay at the nearby Bottle Shop). I'll probably be back once the weather warms up to enjoy the outside space, but definitely never to buy a six pack.
google avatar

Eric U.

Yelp
Came here with friends to drink in. Very nice place with very nice people who works there. Lots of beer to choose from. But 6pack of beer for $35? Sheesh

Jon P.

Yelp
Great outdoor seating area for gatherings with friends and family. Friendly service and great selection, too. Is a little pricey, but it's a boutique beer establishment, not a generic beer distributor. Biggest downside is they restrict where you can order delivery food. Would come here more often if that wasn't the case.
google avatar

Cat P.

Yelp
This is a good place with a nice little selection, but man, is it pricey. After taxes, we paid close to $30 for a mixed six pack. I feel bad only giving them 3 stars because the bartender was so nice. I would stop in for a drink or two at their bar (or at the beer garden when it's warm out), but I'm not sure I would recommend them for bottles unless you're really in a bind!
google avatar

Maria C.

Yelp
Great selection, great atmosphere, plenty of outdoor space. This is a great place for a nice day to just enjoy being outside. They have done a wonderful job at making a street that tends to look more like an eye sore than an ideal beer garden space into somewhere that I enjoy being! Bring a snack, bring your dog, bring your friends and grab a beer! The prices are a little steep - but buy 6 bottles and get a little discount!
google avatar

Di P.

Yelp
Definitely a good addition to this part of town, and it's really for the locals-- parking is sorta spotty around this area, so I wouldn't intentionally drive here. The inside of the boutique has some very limited seating at a small bar, but it's still a nice concept to grab a couple of bottles and hang out. I don't think the prices are necessarily a steal, but they get a good variety of beer and give you about a 10% discount if you order a six pack (even a variety). The outdoor space is much larger than the indoor space and they'll rally for special events (like New Year's Eve!) with food.
google avatar

Jade B.

Yelp
I was so excited for this place to open because I do think its a great addition to the Pennsport neighborhood. Since this bottle shop just opened I think 3 stars is a decent rating. For beers, they have a great selection of local beers but not much else. I had a hard time trying to figure out what I wanted in my half of the beer selection last night. Also, prices! We got 8 beers and spent $41!? I've never spent that much on beer at a bottle shop ever and I hope they start a 10% off deal for buying a six pack. For the prices, I should have just gone to the bar. Hoping things get better in the next few months!
google avatar

Vincent D.

Yelp
I give this place a four star because they have great service, nice people and a cozy atmosphere. Besides that, it's pretty much like many other bottle shops in terms of selection. Your best bet is to go there an probably have something you may have had before but you can sit by a firepit in the middle of South Philly - which is a nice plus. I would like to see their beer selection become a little more broader (throw some 120 Minutes in the mix!) - it's nice to have your staples but for beer lovers like myself, I need the newest beers at my fingertips. I hope they continue their service and heed the advice I've seen a few times - get some different beers!
google avatar

robert w.

Yelp
Convenient, nice set up inside, awesome outdoor space, and dog friendly! Great place when out with your dog, or if you want a nice chill spot to have a beer. Also Caffe Valentino is across the street and can have food brought over... Awesome food and beer...? Enough to said.
google avatar

Keith B.

Yelp
Cool little nice. You can buy beer individually. Affordable and great outdoor environment.

Pamela L.

Yelp
I've been hearing about this place for a while now and decided to check it out this weekend. I LOVE IT! The beer variety is amazing on tap and in bottles. The atmosphere is great. Very friendly staff, quaint and comfortable inside and the outside is really nice too. It's totally dog friendly, the neighborhood dog Charlie hangs out there all the time too. We were having so much fun we didn't want to leave to get something to eat. Fortunately we found out the restaurant across the street delivers, we ordered pizza and had some more beers. I got to try a great variety of beers I've never drank before and found some new favorites. It's a great little neighborhood hang out. I will definitely be back - and I live an hour away.

Yell P.

Yelp
Cool neighborhood spot for mix six or a pint. PA has weird beer laws so you can't buy over a certain amount. If you happen to need a beer and you are in pennsport stop by.
google avatar

Jim K.

Yelp
It feels like it took forever for this place to open. Thank God it finally did! I met a friend here on a weekday night and was immediately impressed by the outdoor seating area. There are lots of hanging plants, and the tile flooring really takes your mind off if the fact that you're sitting yards off of Moyamensing. The bottle selection is extensive and reasonably priced. They even have an 8-tap system running. One temporary drawback was that their computerized register system wasn't up and running, but I was assured that should be finished soon. Once that happens, cash OR credit will be accepted. With Caffé Valentino right across the street, you can even order some food! The owners were very friendly and accommodating, even offering a glass to drink my bottled beer out of. As with many places that offer outdoor seating, this place is pet friendly. My only disappointment is that they didn't open earlier. The propane and electric heaters will only take us so far into the colder months to come.
google avatar

Bill J.

Yelp
I was very excited about having this place opening in the neighborhood. Two visits later, I'm convinced they'll be out of business within a year ,unless they make some changes. the setup is cool - outdoor seating with a (probably illegal in the city) fire pit, small bar/service counter, and a few taps, most of them waiting to be occupied. selection is nothing special, Beer Heaven , 3 blocks away on Columbus, definitely has them beat here. Prices are not posted, maybe cuz they're new and haven't gotten to that yet. There's an old saying g "If you need to know the price, you can't afford it.". That applies here when I discovered the the 2 - as oz bottles I selected were going to run me $55. That seems a pretty hefty markup. Curiois as to what their growler fills are going to cost. So for atmosphere it's a winner. But for grabbing a couple 22s of interesting brews, there's better options. Good luck, Beer Boutique.

Mr Y.

Yelp
I wasn't too impressed. The beer selection was standard. Prices were standard or slightly higher that other places. I have seen other places with much larger selections. I did like the indoor/outdoor seating. Indoor seating was very limited due to the lack of bar space but that will be nice as the weather gets colder. They had the standard beers on tap. It was nice to be able to buy a bottle and drink it outside. Do not use the foosball table outside-- its missing a lot of balls (it only comes with like 3 balls) so you can't play a full game. That's a dollar quickly down the drain. Overall, it was nice to see a new place come to Pennsport, but I was not impressed.

Mary Beth S.

Yelp
The server was great. Very attentive and informative. Beer selection is interesting and I don't mind paying a little extra to try out new things. What I do mind is how cluttered and dirty the space is. I get that the outdoor space is not meant to be kept as clean as indoor restaurant space, but come on with the clutter, trash, dirty tables, smells, and dead trees! There is literally a pile of trash under every table crusted over by the elements. We live just a few blocks away and frequently patronize both the restaurant and beer garden so truly saying all of this out of a genuine desire to see this succeed. We come less and less frequently because upkeep and cleanliness don't seem to be a priority in the beer garden. Beer alone won't keep us coming back, especially at these prices (nor will outdoor space) - there are plenty of places to find that in Pennsport these days. Hoping to see things take a turn for the better as we head into warmer weather!
