Google
This great venue at Reading Terminal Market offers a small store. Today I had a sample of key lime pie. It was pretty good. I make a great Florida key lime pie and this pie is creamier and lighter with less lime flavor than a Florida version, making it a Philadelphia version. The server was very personable and did not give away the recipe! They have a great gluten free chocolate cake--oh yum! Hope's Cookies are here and pre-packaged Asher's Chocolate also. Cookies are a reasonable price for the venue at 6 for $12 and 12 for $22. This small shop is accessible although tight. The accessible entry/exit at main entrances to Reading Terminal Market. The smaller entrances have a 6 step entry. Accessible restrooms are shared by all 80 venues. Accessible parking for wheelchair vans in paid lot, which gets busy at busy times.

I couldn’t take any photos, I was too visually stimulated! This place has everything fun you want to eat, wear or put in your home. Also they have these giant chocolate Easter eggs that take me back to when I was a kid. A++

Google
This is an amazing general store with a big variety for a small space. So happy to stumble into it. They have chocolates, cheese, breads, teas, coffees, souvenirs, kitchen ware, drink fridge, glassware, gift baskets, honeys, jams, fruit butter, I was constantly amazed by how much they had. All the food is locally made and sourced which is always amazing to hear. I left with more than I dreamed of when I first walked by.

Google
Very cute shop with a nice selection of souvenirs. Will be going back to get some of their chocolate treats, since the last time I went was to get goodies for my family and they enjoyed them all :')

Google
Nice store in Redding terminal. I got some of their Birchwood root beer. Good price, good taste.

Google
Not kidding when I say: best cookies in Reading Terminal (beating out 4th St Cookies) and my own personal favorite throughout the city (no BS). Baked to perfection: FRESH everyday SOFT, moist, and CHEWY! 5* easy. Don't believe me? Try either the Wilbur Cookie (chocolate Chips with peanut butter chips) and/or the chocolate Dipped Chocolate Chip Cookie. You're welcome.

Yelp
This review is based solely on the cookies they sell/serve, which I believe are Hope's Cookies. I remember these cookies from over ten years ago and was going they were still there. I was super excited when I stoped by and the cookies looked as delicious as I remembered. They do a cookie happy hour from ~5 PM-6PM and cookies are $1.50 each. I bought a ton of different flavors, and had the Triple Chocolate when I left the store. It was as indulgent and rich as I remembered. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Delicious housemade? kombucha on tap. $4 for 6oz. I got the rose flavored one. Also amazing cookies. Day olds are still great and half the money! I love to get the *too good to go* when it's available and for $4 I got a baguette 4 cookies, scone and something else I forget. Bread from Metropolitan Bakery. Not bad! This is my bosses favorite cookie joint in the hole city - Hope's Cookies

Yelp
The desserts are delicious and they don't contain harsh preservatives. I only tried them by mail. I can't wait to visit in person.

Yelp
I am a sucker for a soft cookie...they have a friend in me. In honor of Groundhog Day, Phil's cousin was out spreading love. I then made my way to cookie heaven. The store held many options but I settled on chocolate chip and a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie. The cookies were soft and melt in your mouth. I had saved one for later that evening and...it was still soft. I'll be back. Love a soft cookie. Thank you General Store.

Yelp
The store has lots of local items for sale, but the main attraction for me has been Hope's cookies. It's a challenge to go to Reading Terminal & NOT leave with any cookies--especially when they had discounted cookies before closing. (Sadly, they've stopped that since COVID.) These are the best cookies in the area! Fourth Street cookies maybe bigger in size and Insomnia Cookies maybe deliverable til the wee hours, but neither compares in taste & variety of flavors. You can have them shipped too--they make a great gift.

Yelp
In the last few months I have sent five packages from The Pennsylvania General Store to friends and family. One of those got delivered to the wrong neighbor. By the time it got sorted out the pretzels had gone bad. The recipient called customer service and was treated poorly. I called customer service and was treated poorly. Mistakes can and do happen occasionally. By no means is "the customer always right". However, dismissing a customer's experience so entirely is also not right. I never thought I was their most important customer, but to be treated as though disposable was disappointing. They may have a tasty treat, but so do lots of other online vendors that will work with you if the unexpected arises.

Jeanette S.

Yelp
Listen. These are the best cookies I've ever had. Do yourself a favor if you're in Reading Terminal, don't leave without grabbing at least one of Hope's Cookie from the Pennsylvania General Store. I ordered a very sticky caramel pecan and a chocolate dipped chocolate chip cookie. Otherworldly delicious. Soft and perfectly baked. The cookies were placed in the bag separated by parchment paper to ensure they didn't stick together. I threw them in my coat pocket, walked a few blocks and they remained separate. Delicious cookies at a good price, and thoughtful customer experience. I left smiling and excited to return.

Yelp
Very poor customer care. I have been a frequent customer for years. My step-daughter gave me one of their branded mugs for Christmas. I didn't want or need it. Didn't even take it out of the wrapping. Tried to exchange it for something I could actually use and they refuse unless I have the receipt. I'm not going to hurt my step-daughter's feelings by asking for a receipt and it's not like I'm asking for a refund, just an exchange. I'll never shop there again. What a waste of her money and my time.

Yelp
Tucked into a quieter corner of the market, PA General Store is worth seeking out. They have lots of fun locally themed gifts at fair prices. If you want souvenirs, you can get something more useful and better made than crap at other souvenir shops. The reason I keep returning is their Metropolitan Bakery offerings. On a busy morning before a holiday, I stopped in when the market opened at 8am. I got the bread I wanted from Metropolitan Bakery and didn't have to wait in a long line at their Rittenhouse location.

Yelp
Amazing selection of pastries and baked goods. The scones and croissants are my fave! Nice selection of candy and chocolates and gifts. Very friendly staff. Come early bc the terminal gets super busy throughout the day. Def recommend:)

Yelp
Received my favorite Easter candy less than 24 hours after placing my order. I live in a different state and wasn't expecting to get my order in time for Easter. 5 stars!

Yelp
Reading Terminal Market is a gem and Pennsylvania General Store is one of the places inside that makes it so. It has "old world" vibes and friendly service. I was one happy camper with my huge loaf of sourdough.

Yelp
Amazing customer service!! Plus quality gift baskets for shipping some Philly love to friends and family around the country. This is one of our reliable "go-to" stores certain times of year (with easy online ordering) to send holiday gifts. I ordered a gift basket to ship a few states away last Christmas (height of pandemic mind you!), but mistakenly gave PGS the wrong address. Not only did they catch that it was an unusable mailing address but they reached out to me ASAP to get the correct one from me via email. Great product, fair prices, supporting a local business and just a fun gift to send to family & friends who've moved away. P.S. personal shout out to Ellen!!

Yelp
The Pennsylvania General Store gets all the stars for making the seemingly impossible happen. Philly soft pretzels delivered at the height of the pandemic holiday shipping frenzy and throw some bad weather in there for a bonus challenge. While it didn't make it overnight, they shipped it that way and then it was up to the post office. Fortunately, the pretzels made it just in time for a Christmas surprise. When I introduced my fiancée to a Philadelphia soft pretzel, I didn't realize what I was starting. I'm a big fan and she puts me to shame. Small girl. Big love of that delicious dough. The thing is, we're out in Colorado and all you can get out here are those international chain pretzels that aren't nearly the same. The Pennsylvania General Store came through and got us a big box direct from the source. The one thing I'd recommend increasing the baking temperature they say for reheating. Then again, I like my pretzels more crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I didn't visit the Reading Terminal Market nearly enough when I lived in Philly. Don't make the same mistake. Go there and visit this store while you're at it. Also walk around. There's so much great food at the market but that's a review for another time.

Yelp
So I happened to stumble upon this store in Reading Market while visiting. The store was cozy and cute and I got some spreads and teas which I can't wait to indulge in. However it's the cookies for me! I'm not a 'oh I want cookies all the time' kind of person BUT , when I want them I want them. And this day I wanted them. To my surprise, no lie ! These were some of the best cookies I have ever had !!! So soft , fresh and GOOD! I had the lemon, pumpkin, sugar and white macadamia nut flavors ! I will just be honest and say I didn't want this goodness to end! Had I known how good they would be I definitely would've gotten more. I'm telling you if you go to this market , GET THE COOKIES and thank me later !
google avatar

Stephanie R.

Yelp
I went for the first time recently and everything looked so good! It was hard to choose one cookie. I chose the heath bar crunch cookie which I LOVED. My coworkers I went with were also very pleased with their cookie choices. They have a huge variety in cookie flavors ranging from your classics to the fun twists. I haven't tried any of their other sweets but they looked good as well (chocolate covered pretzels!).

Ray C.

Yelp
Hope's Cookies is sold here and they are the absolute BEST cookies, period! We have tried at least 8 flavors, and they are ALL outstanding! The staff is also very nice, friendly and helpful!

Yelp
In Reading Terminal Market, the Pennsylvania General Store has local food stuffs and items that make great gifts. If you ask the clerks, they can even tell you the background. Particularly popular are the fresh cookies but I was after food of Pennsylvania and chose pretzels, spice cookies and peanut clusters (all famous local foods). Favorite memorabilia is also offered (mugs, shot glasses, t-shirts, etc) Great place for tourists to pick up a souvenir.
google avatar

Retna S.

Yelp
Good cookies. They are $1 each during the last half hour. Lots of PA goodies such as soft and hard pretzels. They have chocolate and French macarons too

Yelp
I don't write reviews often, however, Ashley Williams made my experience with Pennsylvania General Store online ordering helpful. I made a purchase online and ran into a challenge that my package was delayed. I reached out via email to reconfirm details and request follow up. Ashley took it upon herself to call me to streamline a correction and made me feel confident and satisfied that a solution was expedited and completed within minutes instead of a back-and-forth via email. Personalized service will make me a lifetime customer and Ashley was quick, efficient, thoughtful and pleasant over the phone with problem resolution. Thank you, Ashley

Yelp
This is a cool place to pick up a few misc food items. They have a large selection of chocolate and jams to choose from The staff was friendly and attentive. Picked up a few items. Will I be back? Yes

Yelp
I ordered on line the Irish Potatoes . Received them today and they are awesome ! One of the best , so fresh ! You have to try them ! Thank you for a quick delivery ! We love them !

Yelp
You can't wander around the market and not eat a little sumthin' sumthin' sweet to keep your energy up! Conveniently located near the bathrooms all the way in the back. I wanted to thank my friends for doing all the driving today so I picked out a couple of chocolate chip cookies and chocolate milk covered pretzels to share with everyone. Boy, did I win some brownie points. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the treats and they were so good that I grabbed a few more to bring home. PRO TIP - there is seating alongside the wall back here if you need a table to sit and eat all the goodies you've gotten all over the market.
google avatar

Yelp
A great store to check out if you're looking for a unique gift or souvenir while visiting the Reading Terminal Market. My mom purchased some cookies here and they were absolutely delicious. We also purchased chocolate covered pretzels made locally (incredible), and I found a Philly mug with the liberty bell and rocky inside of it.. it was hilarious and only $7. What a deal.
google avatar

Carolen M.

Yelp
I was on a mission to buy a Pennsylvania Pretzel and good thing this place had it for super cheap less than $2 for 2! So I ended up buying 4 so that my family could eat some. It was my saving grace during our Cancun trip when I was hungry. The pretzels are a bit different, but for me it was great. I have an odd palette though so try one and see if you like it. It's cheap anyways! They also had many other goods and chocolates. Good way to spend a little money if you want to bring some goodies home. It's located in Reading Terminal on the North East-ish side.

Yelp
Great Products, but... This is the WORST store to do internet business with, 1st time they mess up an order, 2nd time, Shame on Me for doing business with them again..."-( I placed an order on December 2nd, and its now December 22nd, no sign of my order... When calling to check on it they tell me it was my fault because I put in the wrong email address...:-0 My email has been the same for over 10 years AND it is the one already displayed in my account with them.... NOW they've ruined my special Christmas gifts for family members! NEVER agin will I TRY to do business with these folks!!! Do NOT trust their shipping department!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Was searching for a Philly sports themed basket with some snacks to send to a friend's son who was in Children's Hospital with an injury. The staff texted me pics of options to include a t-shirts and snacks all in a couple hours to get it delivered! Thanks for helping me bless a friend!
google avatar

Weiming L.

Yelp
Staff here is super polite and friendly. Greeted every customer with a smile. This store sells all sorts of chocolates, candies and souvenirs. Forgot to get your family a souvenir? No worries, there are tons of gift basket here too. Doesn't fit in your carry on? No worries either cuz they ship. How awesome is that.
google avatar

Suzanne A.

Yelp
Love the PA General Store! The remodel has made it roomier with more display area. It's one of the few places with Wilbur buds in Philly. The cookies are delicious! At the end of the day, the cookies are a little cheaper. There's lots of cute unique Philly and PA themed gifts.

Yelp
The Pennsylvania General Store could easily be dismissed as something useless, junky, or touristy. It is full of things you don't need and everything you never knew you wanted or needed. I got a kick out of the variety of goods in the store. It's perfect for gifts to take back home, trinkets, and for trying out all the local things that make Pennsylvania special. Cookies, chocolates, keychains, etc. The reason I go to the Pennsylvania General Store is the candy. Prepackaged licorice is the way to go. This is the same licorice I find in NY at Dylan's Candy Bar or Dewey's for 8.99/lb. At the Pennsylvania General Store it is $3.75 for a whole bag. It's amazing. Sure I'd love to have a chocolate Liberty Bell, but when it comes down to it if I can save 50% off on candy I can down on a daily basis, I'm there. The bags of licorice come one type of flavor or a variety pack. I picked the variety pack and now I'm stuck with four strands of nasty coconut flavored licorice. Next time I'm going to just stick with one flavor bags. And since it's 1/2 the price of NY candy, I can buy two! It's easy to feel like a kid in a candy store at the Reading Terminal Market. Do not miss the Pennsylvania General Store!
google avatar

Andrea T.

Yelp
This is the best kept secret in the RTM. I am only telling you this, because I like you. I like you like you. I want to make you a mixed tape like you. No, it's not that serious. Well maybe.... PITA, or Stinkeye as N, affectionately refers to her as, got me hooked on Hope's Cookies. Just like Sophie U. sez holy crap, the COOKIES. My personal fave is the Caramel Pecan. It's like eating pecan pie. Sometime you get one with lots of caramel that has hardened and it's like candy and a cookie in one. I sometimes can muster up will power to just eat half. Then I feel ultra-virtuous. I have eaten half of a pecan laden cookie. I mean thats two food groups and they are both protein! Kidding... They sell other "stuff" here, but it's Asher's chocolate nothing special. However, HOPES COOKIES are insane in the membrane. Caramel Pecan sells out early in the day especially on a friday. I got there at a little after 1 today and they almost were out of the caramel pecan not dipped in chocolate. I have never had that variety. I'm affraid I might go into diabetic shock.
google avatar

Marissa C.

Yelp
My company had their holiday party in the Market and the General Store was open giving away chocolate covered pretzels. My drunk greedy ass went back several times over the course of the night and they put up with me every time and didn't argue with me. I woke up the next day hungover but happy when I saw all the chocolate covered pretzels in the fridge. I love the fun flavors and combination of candies they threw on the pretzels.
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
Great cookies! I thoroughly enjoyed all the non-chocolate selections. That's the first thing that impressed me. Being that I don't like chocolate, I often get the short end of the stick when it comes to dessert options. I'm happy to say that there were lots of variety, both chocolate and non-chocolate alike. The lemon-coconut and red velvet ones were my absolute favorite. The red velvet didn't not have much cocoa powder in it, so it's safe for non-chocolate eaters. The cookies were moist, soft and chewy!
google avatar

Cathy R.

Yelp
So disappointed with my online experience. The shipping range is so off. If I knew it was going to take 11 business days to have the item arrive at its destination I would have expedited it. Then I was told I could upgrade it after a week of waiting for it to be delivered and it sitting in a warehouse/terminal for 4 days for $22 plus the expedited fee. SMH. Then... the carrier said it was sent below the service I was told it was being sent. What a mess. I guess their motto is better late than never. Mine is fool me once and I'll never use your service again. :-(
google avatar

Cat T.

Yelp
Hope's Cookies are the best I have ever tasted. And I'm a chocolate snob with a crazy sweet tooth, so I've tasted many. After checking out Beiler's, I stopped by the Penn Store on a whim, getting the Lemon Cooler and Caramel Pecan. And they were amazing *__*. They're moist and chewy, with the right balance of flavors, and you can tell they use the best ingredients. The chocolate coated ones are so worth it because the quality of the chocolate is surprisingly high. I rarely find this to be the case with chocolate covered-anything. It's definitely not Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory flaky. I found Belier's donuts fine but too sweet so next time I'm in Philly I'm beelining straight to here.
google avatar

Meredith G.

Yelp
Very yummy cookies. Lots of flavors to select from too. I enjoyed the walnut chocolate chip a lot. Reasonable prices too.
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Hope's cookies, Lore's buttercreams, Society Hill nuts, and Reading Terminal Market shirts make the Pennsylvania General Store a gem hidden in the northeast corner of Reading Terminal Market. They also have a wide selection of Philadelphia and Amish-centric gifts and food items, candies, Asher's chocolates, soft pretzels, and other knick knacks all in one store. And need a nice upscale Philly-centric gift basket? This is the place to go!
google avatar

Eve B.

Yelp
Love!!Love!!their cookies!!! I have gone to cookie heaven!!! Before closing their cookies are marked down to $1.00. Rush to the counter before they all disappear

Wendy S.

Yelp
Great customer service. Super prices and shipping. So glad we found this on line store. They also have stores around the Philadelphia area but we're in Florida now and it's great we can order things from our home town. We'll definitely order from again! Thank you!
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
Needed some candy fix, and Muellers was too crowded. I headed to the other side and came upon this place. No one in there, and the prices were better. To me, the candy is just as good. I got some milk chocolate covered pretzels with toffee, and some chocolate covered potato chips. They hit the spot as a nice dessert after my dinner! They also take LevelUp!
google avatar

Sophia H.

Yelp
Same thing as Hope's Cookies if you look into that place at Reading Terminal Market on Yelp. Tried the Wilbur Peanut Butter Cookie. Amazing! Really, all cookies (from Hope's Cookies) are fresh, soft, chewy, decadent, and pure bliss.
google avatar

Chez E.

Yelp
They have the best cookies, Soft chewy and delicious. Had to get the Chocolate Chip, Heath Bar, Triple Chocolate Chip and Peanut Butter. Evertime I'm in Philly and by The Reading Terminal I must go!

Tomas G.

Yelp
I ordered their Philadelphia soft pretzels for my wife's 73rd birthday, she is originally from south Philly but now lives in Texas. She really misses the soft pretzels so I thought I would surprise her. I ordered 36 pretzels and the cost was over 100.00 including 2 day shipping. These are not real Philly soft pretzels they are horrible and bad tasting. It is not the wasted money that bothers me, it was seeing her reaction these fake pretzels that upset me the most. If you really like authentic Philly pretzels, do not order these, you will be totally disappointed.

Andrea C.

Yelp
Do not use their online ordering. Package didn't get to its destination and they reached out to me after the food was expired. Only solution they offered was for me to place an additional order...(after losing over $50 on the previous order)
google avatar

Marie C.

Yelp
Best cookies ever! The variety was amazing we had to stop & get some! I tried 4 different ones & everyone was fresh, soft, & just delicious! I wish I had taken picture of them but they were so good I ate them too quick!!!!! You must go here!
google avatar

Clarice O.

Yelp
Oh my goodness. I suffered from sensory overload in Reading Terminal Market. Consequently, I did not have enough time to properly check this place out. But the stuff I did check out were great! Cookies were delicious. They also had a lot of other sweets -- chocolates, pastries, truffles, etc -- in their case . The pretzel was what we were really there for, and they delivered. Aside from the goodies, they also have some trinkets and souvenirs. Prices were good and service was friendly, I will stop by again on my return trip to Philly.

Shannon K.

Yelp
Why does this place have such good reviews? The worker happily served us macaroons and told us to wait to eat them to cool off because they were "fresh"... turns out it was just a ploy for us to not try them in the market. They were so stale and hard that they were inedible. We also got a box of truffles that were all terrible and not worth the hefty price we paid. Over $45 down the drain. So disgusted with their service.

Kay P.

Yelp
I have never been in the store but Helen was AMAZING in helping me put together a gift basket and having it delivered. She worked with me on email and by phone and went above and beyond. Shipping and delivery cost options were reasonable.

Danielle V.

Yelp
My favorite cookies in Philly !!! I've probably tried every cookie option at the Reading Terminal Market but the chocolate chip here will always be my favorite
