A barista-owned staple since 1990, Penny Lane is the city’s community living room—two locations, eclectic art, and a devoted local following. Its downtown shop even made news for a playful free-latte promo tied to utility bill frustrations.

I’ve been a loyal customer at Penny Lane for over a decade now & hope it prospers forever. I can’t imagine a more cozy & welcoming environment. Reading at coffee shops is one of my favorite things to do & this one is by far my favorite one to chill at. I love seeing all the dedicated locals that visit everyday to read the paper with their coffee. So much charm in this place. I adore that they feature local artists on rotation. This place is truly a pillar of the community. My go to order is a dirty lavender chai & a veggie burger with pesto. I also just learned they now serve cold brew with cold foam! But you can’t go wrong with anything here- the ladies working are also super helpful if you need some help coming up with something that suits you!

Google
We found this cozy spot on a snowy Sunday, and it was the perfect escape from the cold. The warmth of the place was so inviting, with regulars chatting with the baristas—always a great sign! We grabbed drinks from the cooler and found a comfy seating area in the back. We sipped our drinks and read, fully content in the peaceful atmosphere. Relaxing. Enjoying life 1 sip, 1 bite and 1 small town at a time. Explore everything!

Google
This place has a great vibe, welcoming to all. We didn't purchase any food during our visit, but we really enjoyed our White Rabbit iced coffee and Blue Sister smoothie. We sat outside to enjoy the breeze and were greeted by tiny, hungry birds. It was a delightful experience, and we are so happy we visited!

Google
Cozy environment. Enjoyed the artwork on the walls for sale. The blended coffee choices were very limited. We had the caramel frappe, very basic, I know. It just wasn't what we were hoping for. Would try it again if in the area.

Google
This coffee shop is so cute, and the food was delicious! We got the breakfast sandwich and the biscuits and gravy and both were very good! They also have a ton of coffee and espresso options and even a bunch of smoothies! Everything was very affordable and I will definitely be back again!

Google
I had a great time at this coffee shop! The drink menu was super fun. Definitely worth checking out.

Friendly staff. Great service. Art for sale on walls. Come hangout. You will like it!

Google
I have been going to Penny Lane for years and I love it more every time I go. If you’re looking for wonderful coffee, great food, or a fun atmosphere with baristas who will joke with you and make you smile, this is the place to be. I love Baylee and Katie with all of my heart. Cannot say enough good words about this wonderful gem downtown! <3 Edit*: totally forgot to mention the local artists! If you like cute earrings, crystals, necklaces, and stunning work made by local artists this is a place you will find a piece of yourself in.

Yelp
Penny Lane is such a great cozy cafe to enjoy and beverage and a breakfast sandwich! The service is always stellar. The employees are super helpful and kind. You order food and drinks at one end of the counter, and they call out your order at the other end of the bar. Make sure to pay attention to the order of guests and the name of what you ordered since they call out the menu item, not a name. It's busy on the weekends, but I find that tables/seats turn over pretty quick! Plenty of street parking and walkable to Haynie's Corner!

Yelp
This was a nice comfortable place to stop and sit and relax over a cup of coffee. Plenty of seating inside and out. Staff were helpful and friendly. Coffee was good food was ok nothing special. We had eggs, hash browns and something that resembled bacon. I think the place is fully vegan. We would go back if in the area again.

Yelp
Attentive to my order. Thankful for the business. Can't be in hurry to get in and out. Customers seemed to know the level of service.

Yelp
Penny Lane Coffeehouse is a real gem! We were in Evansville at North High School for a lacrosse tournament. Penny Lane is a sponsor of the North Huskies girls's lacrosse team, so I wanted to pay them a visit. Only about 4 mins away. Busy drive through, pretty quiet inside with a bunch of tables, some with cozier seating options. Chill vibe. Staff were friendly and busy making orders for drive through. Love that they make cortados, which have been my coffee of choice the last 4 months. My drink was perfect! My wife got her usual soy latte - seemed to like it, but I didn't really ask. We both had the Kevin Bacon sandwiches, which were awesome! I don't know what a Bolillo roll is, but it was so good! Would happily eat on of those on a daily basis. My son had the Gremlins, which are mini waffle dunkers. He didn't like it that much, so I tried one and it was also super tasty. I'm sure it wasn't good for my waistline. Great concept for a local coffeeshop - now they just need to move to Zionsville

Yelp
Stopped in from out of town to get a coffee and had great service. There was one person working and she was kind and cranking out orders. Really cute and local vibes inside.

Yelp
This is a perfect breakfast/brunch option! I was initially blown away by the low prices but realized their portion sizes are pretty small for sandwiches. On the bright side, for a larger meal you could try two menu items as they all look delicious. I love places with fresh smoothie options and a very extensive coffee list. You can get anything from matcha to iced coffee and iced lattes. Outdoor and indoor seating is available but might be difficult to find on a weekend. I did notice that the lighting and ducts way up by the ceiling are dusty. I know they're tough to clean but not the best to see at a restaurant. The one bathroom was clean. Street parking is free and plentiful in this historic neighborhood. You'll probably want to get a coffee to-go and walk around to view the architecture! As every coffee shop with a big bookcase is, Penny Lane is trendy/hippie. Totally would recommend this place!

Sarah K.

Yelp
Great cappuccino & huge breakfast sandwich menu. The vibe in there is also great; vintage clothes, art, jewelry, books, etc. Really comfortable & welcoming, friendly, relaxed, delicious, fun. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Great coffee and breakfast sandwiches! Love the downtown location near the river and historic part of town
google avatar

Catherine S.

Yelp
What a gem! Great food and drinks. Coffee, sandwiches and smoothies to order. Located in a beautiful historic neighborhood.
google avatar

Karyn M.

Yelp
Great vibe, inclusive, great coffee and grub at good prices. Two thumbs up; we'd come here again.
google avatar

Megan F.

Yelp
I love the location of Penny Lane Coffeehouse, as it is nestled in the historic area of Haynies corner. They have a wide range of breakfast, lunch sandwiches, smoothies and coffee. I ordered the Tiny Dancer latte, and enjoyed it. It always seems to fill up, so if you want seating, go early.
google avatar

Erika A.

Yelp
Stopped here to pick up sandwiches on a busy day. Food was good, drinks tasty, and the price is right. Nice atmosphere but cramped so sit outside if the day is nice! I wish my sandwich had come with a side, would be willing to pay a bit more to have some chips or pasta salad.

Ryan H.

Yelp
Great breakfast food, coffee and atmosphere in an incredible neighborhood. Highly recommended

Yelp
Penny Lane Coffehouse is a cute coffee shop! There are local artists works for sale throughout the shop which was nice to see! I ordered a cherry mocha with oatmilk and enjoyed the combination. My partner ordered a hot chai with oatmilk and he thought it was good! When in Evansville I will be stopping in Penny Lane!
google avatar

Stacie B.

Yelp
Despite not being able to sit inside due to current pandemic restrictions the atmosphere was inviting and cozy. As we walked up to the very obviously neighborhood hang out several people greeted us even though we are newcomers. I like that! It was busy inside with two servers catering to a line of those wanting morning coffee and sammies, but the vibe continued to be relaxed and friendly. We got a chai and voodoo coffee which was delicious. It had the right amount of sweet to the rich bold coffee taste. Our sammies were build your own with mine bring an oat nut bread with hummus and veggies. I like that for a small price you could make anything with tons of bread, spread and stuffing options. As we waited we browsed the decor and it was a funky fun spot - especially if you are a music fan! We loved our first taste of Penny Lane and enjoyed the flavors on the riverfront only a few blocks away. Great way to start the day!

Yelp
Meh! Busy but not necessarily because they are great. They told me after I paid that they were out of sugar free hazelnut syrup. In fact, they were out of quite a lot that was on their in-store menu and the menu we saw online is also apparently not accurate. Also, employees were fairly rude when I mentioned coffee and cream were out. Food was ok - at least it's not premade frozen sandwiches. But not enough to make me come back.

Yelp
I don't get downtown much these days but had the opportunity to stop in this morning. The place was just as I remembered it. Cozy, great atmosphere, food and coffee. I had the Caddyshack and it was amazing. The people behind the counter are polite and efficient at their jobs.

Yelp
I've been to Penny Lane a few times, and after this one, I wanted to leave a review. I wandered in mid-afternoon and ordered a white rabbit. The white rabbit has excellent creaminess without being overly sweet. I really enjoyed the white chocolatey flavor while sitting in the relaxed atmosphere of the coffee shop. Penny Lane is a great place to sit and slow sip a latte while burning some afternoon hours with friends.

Cathy M.

Yelp
NOT wheelchair accessible. Half step onto a small stoup with a manual inward door. ................

Paul K.

Yelp
Nice people, good coffee at a fair price. Ambience is funky student-like, but welcoming. I didn't require service so no comment.

Yelp
Went here with the fam after Black Friday shopping. It was super chill and laid back, which we loved. There was one lady behind the bar and she was incredible. Making drinks, taking orders, and making our sandwiches and she just made it look EASY. Food came out quick and hot, just how I like it. I got the breakfast club sandwich with bacon, my sister and dad got it too but they got sausage. Everyone liked it. And the coffee was good. Best cafe au lait I've had outside of New Orleans.

Alex B.

Yelp
Good, basic, organic coffee. Not the most exciting menu, but well made and friendly baristas. Good place to chill and nice outdoor patio.
google avatar

Thomas M.

Yelp
I ordered avocado toast here about 6 months ago but the experience has haunted me ever since. The avocado they used was the spread/dip you can buy at Schnuck's with all kinds of other shit in it that's not avocado. The mocha was OK. I had to hoof it to the Double Tree downtown to drain myself and the staff at the hotel definitely knew I wasn't staying there. Embarrassing!

Polly H.

Yelp
Excellent coffee, food, service and environment! Voodoo Child and White Rabbit are two of my favorite drinks. Will be visiting again soon.
google avatar

Anthony T.

Yelp
Menu on website isn't what's available at the restaurant. Coffee was weak. Staff was untrained and literally everything self serve needed to be refilled and they acted bothered to refill them.
google avatar

Indira P.

Yelp
This coffee shop is very chill. Also, it has a hippie vibe with a lofty and artsy decor created from local artists in the tri-state area for sale. It's located on the corner of 2nd street and Mulberry street so just outside the downtown. I've been told a few celebs has stopped by in the past years since it's been open. Last but never the least, they offer hot/cold coffees, fruit smoothies and delicious breakfast and lunch to dine in or have on the go. I highly recommend this coffee shop!

Yelp
Stopped in before heading back to Indianapolis. We saw this shop was close to the brewery we were just at so we thought why not. There were people outside on their computers outside and surprisingly more people inside playing board games or just sharing a cup of coffee. I had ordered an ice latte with coconut and mocha and My fiancé ordered an ice coffee. I was just really excited to see a place carry coconut syrup! What we were most impressed with, were their straws. Unlike the new paper straw fad, these were still biodegradable but made from agave plant and were just as sturdy as a normal straw. We were shocked. Both drinks were great and helped keep us awake on our 3 hour drive back.

Yelp
Many travel blogs point to Penny Lane as a place to visit. Not quite sure why. It is a typical local coffee shop that offers food items alongside its coffee choices. My cappuccino with oat milk was good, not great. The all-fruit smoothie was refreshing because it was cold but the flavors were subtle. I wanted a baked good to go with my drink but their offerings--Costco muffins? Presently, they only offer disposable cups for their drinks. We chose to walk through the historic neighborhood as we sipped our drinks.

Yelp
Loved this place! Coffee was great and so was the food. It was a perfect breakfast for my boyfriend & I while we are visiting!
google avatar

Tacarra C.

Yelp
Their food was good and their coffee was great. They are locally owned. A very quaint setting with free WiFi. Very nice place. I would've given it 5 stars but on my second visit the lady working was very rude.

Yelp
We stopped by Penny Lane for our first "Evansville Thing" as we tried to find our new home. It was the best decision of the day (other than selecting our house of course). The staff and patrons were so friendly. The menu offered hot breakfast sandwiches, hot and cold coffees, bagels, and more... we both had iced coffee and split a bagel - opting to eat on a bench outside. We spoke with so many wonderful, friendly people and our "breakfast" was delicious. We'll be back, more frequently, when we move for sure :)

Yelp
Always on the search for a locally owned coffee shop. Love this spot! Popular drink is the Voodoo Child latte of which I treated myself to a large iced. :) Have shelves of books and magazines. Would recommend!
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
Love the decor and vibe of this cute coffee shop. Free wi-fi and comfy seating to come and study or relax. Local artist jewelry is sold here too.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute local coffee shop that's been a staple of the area for almost 20 years. The staff are all friendly and know what they're talking about. The decor is eclectic and vintage, mismatched and worn but sweet. They have an extensive drink list, a great list of teas, and even some more unusual flavors - lavender latte, anyone? It's hard to do a London Fog right; while this was a little sweeter than I prefer, it was still well balance and much better than most. I also did a build-your-own breakfast sandwich. The croissants were on the bready side, so they didn't get messy and flake! Great little shop and I'll definitely be back. It's great to sit on the couches by the window to get some work done.

Yelp
My favorite coffee place in Evansville. Great location, parking. Service is top notch! Keeping my eye out for some new art for sale. Highly recommend
google avatar

Kimberly W.

Yelp
I've only ever had a raspberry beret latte here, and it was quite good. I would say their coffee is similar to most independent coffeehouses. As you might guess from the name of the place, a lot of the menu items have a Beatles theme to them, and you'll see a nod to the band here and there. However, I think that the artwork on the wall, created by local artists, is much more noticeable. The place is very welcoming. It's like your best borderline hoarder friend invited you over for coffee.
google avatar

Mac W.

Yelp
This place is incredible, the vibe walking in immediately feels welcoming and homey. I cannot explain how peaceful Penny Lane Coffeehouse is enough, please come by and check this place out, you won't regret it!

Serra A.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop to stop by and visit. We ordered the iced White Wedding and the Raspberry Beret and they were really good. The inside was really cool as well.
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
This place was fantastic! We were driving though and stopped at this little gem. The coffee and chai tea were out of this world. Yum! The sandwiches were very good. The staff were friendly. It's definitely a hippy type joint, but I love that. We got there just in time to beat a long line and sat outside. It was pretty packed. This place is clearly the neighborhood favorite. Would highly recommend checking this place out.

Kyle J.

Yelp
Stopped in to grab a Sunday coffee, and I was pleasantly surprised by Penny Lane. Outside they had an advertisement for a special: Blackberry White Mocha Latte. I ended up getting it, and I feel like I have been missing out on something my whole life. They had a great amount of foam. Not too sweet. It was just right. There were people hanging out here, so it is a great place to meet friends and chat. That staff was very helpful and service was quick. It isn't too far from Haynie's Corner and the river. Grab a coffee and go for a little walk when the weather is nice. I would come back for a drink and if I need to get out and do some work, Penny Lane is my new number one choice (especially since they have free wifi and upgrade your drink if you check in).
google avatar

Kaylee E.

Yelp
The owner is awesome, and the food is delicious. The inside of the place is super cool. I'm grumpy in the mornings, and there's not a whole lot that makes me happy, but this place sure did. :-)
google avatar

Elyse G.

Yelp
This was the first and only real coffee shop in Evansville. For years it was only Donut Bank, which,,, is DONUT Bank, not COFFEE Bank, for a reason. My friends and I went the first time in 2002 when it was bare bones and Sk8er Boi was blasting in our car,,, Though it has come SUCH a long way since then (added some books and pillows and comfort and sunshine),,, the constant remains: the coffee is still amazing! Not just the special stuff either, the regular coffee that you serve yourself is amazing. Do yourself a favor and visit one of the best coffee shops in the US.
google avatar

Lauren C.

Yelp
This is such a great addition to the downtown Evansville area. This is the type of cornerside coffee shop that has a distinct personality. I love the emphasis on classic rock music and the interior is so quaint and cozy. Parking is great here as well!! They also have the best chamomile tea I've ever had in my life! Just putting that out there. 10/10!
google avatar

Cynthia C.

Yelp
Our new favorite go to coffee shop in this beautiful neighborhood! New to Evansville, it's lovely to discover this friendly spot with delicious food as well.
google avatar

Omar A.

Yelp
Cozy, artsy coffeeshop in downtown Evansville. Have a selection of food (bagels, sandwiches) and coffee. Great service and great atmosphere. Fell in love with a build-your-own croissant and including egg, turkey, cucumber, tomato, and spicy mayo. The toasting of the croissant was a nice touch.

Steve J.

Yelp
Stopped in yesterday thinking I was going to have a vanilla latte. However, I saw they offered amaretto coffee, so I asked if they would make an iced amaretto latte. They did. It was great! And I only had to wait 1-2 minutes on a busy Saturday morning.
google avatar

Renee H.

Yelp
Yum, yumm, yummmmm! Good food, fun atmosphere- - - We tried a variety of items including iced coffee, iced mocha, a protein smoothie, and some breakfast sandwiches. The barista was great. We waited a little bit for our food which let us enjoy the fun factor of the restaurant.
google avatar

Hanna S.

Yelp
It's a super cozy place with a really nice feel. Perfect to hang out in and drink your coffee, in or outside.

Denise L.

Yelp
Downtown Evansville cute and good food. Caddy Shack sandwich excellent! Raspberry mocha latte good too! We walked from our Airbnb
