Penny's Burgers

First of all I will say. Forget all stupid reviews with one star as you can read them. We don't live in the hood, just hungry on the way back home. Foods were so good, cashier was so nice, price is amazing. Serious!!! I haven't eat any burger that cheaper than $12, but In&Out this day. Huge fried and yummy. Need to improve the bathroom door.

Pennys Burgers has been a staple for Highland Park for many years and is always a good option when you're hungry. From cheeseburgers, menudo or breakfast burritos, items on the menu do not disappoint. Service has always been good here and rarely have any errors in the orders. Inside seating is nice and clean as is the outside dining patio. Restroom could be nicer but is clean for the most part.

Love places like this. You get exactly what you expect to get and it's filling and satisfying! Lady at the window super friendly. You get a lot of food. Makes you feel like you're in a Lynch or Tarantino film (you know the ones I'm talking about) Wish I could've tried it for lunch as well.

Been coming to Penny's since I was a kid. Small little spot on the corner of Fig & York- The food is great, they have many options to choose from & the staff is very friendly. You can't go wrong with their Cheeseburger & fries. The taste of a Charbroiled burger has to be my absolute favorite. The fries have a particular seasoning that makes it that much more flavorful big portions too. Since I'm no longer in the area I still make my way to Penny's every so often when I'm craving a delicious burger!

We've been going here for years and it's great! It's our go to breakfast spot, the food is simple and delicious. Their seasoned fired are also amazing!

After visiting my mom at the Montecito Heights Healthcare and wellness center for couple hours I was very hungry and trybto think were to eat. I decided to go to Penny's Burgers in Highland Park not far from the center. It too me couple of minutes traveling on Figueroa Ave to the corner of York blvd where Penny's Burgers. I park in the shopping center where the 99 center and Big 5 located. When I arrive there it already lunch time and the lunch crowded comes in for lunch. I look at menu display they very good selection Burgers combo,Sandwich,pastrami and Mexican meals and also breakfast. Then I decided to get a club sandwich combo comes with fries and soda and choice of bread I choice wheat bread. Instead. I waited for to call my name they brought my meal to the table. My club sandwich looks very good with wheat bread then I took a bite,the club was really good. The club was big for it size that's a sandwich I ate the half but the fries were very good I enjoy it. I took my meal home the foodvat Penny's Burgers incredible good. The staff are very friendly next time I have choice a different item.

Very good burgers, love the charbroiled taste. The fries are good too. I don't live in the area but when my son has practice near by and we ware hungry we get burgers from here.

Penny's... I've been coming here since 1978 and since then which is over 40 years ago I have always been satisfied nonetheless. Coming here is a true statement of Old School Burgers and after all these decades they still remain intact. Thats what a good business is about especially the food, this isn't a 5 Star Restaurant in Beverly Hills like Spago but Penny's has some of the best food in town it's always good and one can't complain about getting some good Burgers and Fries. However they have a menu that has everything you want from Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, especially the Plates are always good and made right. I certainly miss my old pass time but when I'm in town Penny's is my first stop to come and have a good meal. Thanks Penny's for still being there after all these years! I'll never forget when I first came here back in the 70's and now 45 years later you still are my favorite place to come. Take Care. Wes.

Penny's is where you go when you're feeling lonely... on a cold winter day... Grabbed me my Double Cheeseburger just cheese... cause I like the flavor of that patty w extra cheese... American of course...has to be American .. if you say nothing ... it will be... The fries are extra crispy... on request...eat them quick cause they will get soggy fast ...and there will be no one to help you later....unless you throw them in the oven at 400 degrees for another 10 min.... Go ahead and throw your burger in there too for a reheat... it'll toast the bun a bit but will come out super duper!!! This was a pick up order from DoorDash... I was taking advantage of a $40 credit because I ordered from Happy Chinese and they forgot the egg rolls so they refunded me THE WHOLE MEAL! So w half that credit I decided to pick up w Door Dash at Pennies... and saved me a Penny! Or Two! Or three!!! Here's the trick ... order from Happy Chinese for delivery... don't tip the house only the driver... then they'll purposely not give you your entitled free egg roll for each Combo meal that you ordered probably cause they feel entitled to be tipped for a pick up order ...which is a big no no in my book....... then you got to DoorDash and let them know what happened ... "I didn't get my egg rolls!" !!! they refund you the whole $40 !!??... amazing right ... !? Customer is always right... But this only works ... if they actually try to mess with you at Happy place when they don't get a tip and for what!? Why should they for pick up!? Anyhoo... if they get mad and decide to not give you your free egg roll... you know how to handle your biz and feed the fam! lol I went to Penny's and Chanos on my Door Dash credit ! Thanks Door Dash!!! I'm Real Happy Now!!! Happy Chinese was making me sick anyway... too much oil... Oh! I almost forgot ... Penny's has the most amazing Zuchini fries... they were so good!!!! And they give you a boat load of them... Eat up

Had the bacon cheeseburger with seasoned fries. Did not disappoint. Great spot for classic burgers. Service was excellent!

Love Penny Burgers! Breakfast and sometimes a delicious cheeseburger/fries/drink combo! Prompt friendly service, clean inside booths, outside tables are decent and always fun to eat and watch potential car accidents @Fig and York.

This is the most disgusting cheeseburger combo I've ever had. On top of nasty, no hygiene. ...After years of passing by this place I decided to try it for the first time...but only after reading the several reviews of it...and the place convinced me. So I stopped by, paid for my order...people rave about the cheeseburgers, so I decided to keep it simple. I ordered the cheeseburger combo. So I am standing on the outside counter and kept an eye on the cook whom was walking back and forth cleaning up. He had the floor rug in his hands and kept going back and forth ...the grill was still bare. Next thing I see is he grabbed the lettuce, tomatoes etc. and started preparing them. He did not wash his hands, and did not wear gloves. I started getting disgusted. Had I seen this before I ordered, I would not have ordered. So the lady hands me the bag with my order. This what I got. Dry burned meat, rubbery cheese and soggy fries. Got to bites and then trashed it. First and last time. And these people are getting paid 20 an hour? When they don't have the common decency to watch their hands after handling floor rugs?

Honestly this place is a vibe. I love that they separate the diner area from the ordering area that way you don't feel so awkward ordering to go in front of a whole restaurant. On the corner of a shopping center, this cute little burger joint has a massive menu. That range is American breakfast food to home style Mexican meals. The lady's that worked there were so nice and took our order really fast. I got the regular cheese burger and my bf got the bacon avocado one. We also got a side of onion rings. The burgers are MASSIVE. They are so round and wide. I loved it because I was craving a smash burger and this had the same style. The meat is very thin but so so good. All the food was really good but I would not recommend their onion rings. The onions were way too thin and the crust tasted stale for some reason. Overall though it really is a nice little spot!

Penny's is family owned & operated and has been in Highland Park since 1969. The menu features classic American fare & traditional Mexican dishes. Back in the day, my friends and I would stop here after school for French Fries & Onion Rings. I don't eat fast food but occasionally I need an Onion Ring fix, and Penny's hits the spot. Their onion rings are bomb! Especially, when dipped in their house ranch dressing. The fries are also very tasty - soft inside with a slightly crispy exterior. And the seasoning...so addicting! (They also go great with ranch too!) PIC likes their BLT & Burgers as well as their breakfast combos & chilaquiles. The portions are generous. *Inside dining area and outdoor seating. *Parking in the lot behind the restaurant.

The pricing for a burger and fries was not bad compared to other places in the surrounding area. I would say that it is lacking in something when it comes to flavor. It is missing something that would elevate it to the next level. I do like that they always give an abundance of fries with each burger meal. The girls at the register were extremely friendly and helpful when trying to figure out what I wanted from the menu as they had many different options when it came to the choices. They have everything sandwiches to Mexican food to soups. I find that the smells of the chard burger will bring you in but the people are what get you to stay. Food is always hot and ready if its to-go or if its for here always delicious.

Highland Park staple, been coming here since Junior high in the 80's. Pastrami is my favorite, not as big as it used to be but still tasty and well seasoned. Not much as change but the prices but that's expected. The cheese burger special is also worth a try.

I truly love their breakfast burritos; however, I do feel they are way overpriced. We paid $24 for 1 veggie with carne asada burrito, and when I finally got home to enjoy and eat, there was no carne asada inside. I called to let them know the carne asada is missing; she asked me to bring it back after, and it's almost like she didn't believe us. I've been a customer for many years, but I'm officially done coming here.

This place isn't what it used to be. I used to come here a lot as kid. I recently stopped by, after over a decade, and boy everything just wasn't good anymore. The fried zucchini breading is now super thick, and no longer light and airy. The chili cheese fries also now feels very stingy, with very small scoop chili. Definitely a sign of the times. Sad to see this Highland Park staple go lower standards for their food.

I almost don't want to tell you about this place since it's hard enough to get a table at peak hours. Great selection of food including the best burgers and killer fries. Completely reasonable prices and if you don't can't help but leave sated. But if you aren't, order the fried zucchini and more fries to go!

Ordered a protein style angus cheese burger and it was extremely greasy and I didn't even get cheese in my burger. Bummed out because I was really looking forward to enjoying a burger It sucks because things are ridiculously expensive and can't even get a decent burger.

I've eaten at Penny's but never had their breakfast burrito. Yesterday I placed an order over the phone for a Sausage Breakfast Burrito. It was ready within 10 minutes. It was a good size burrito, I split it with my daughter. We both were full. It had eggs, sausage, cheese and hash rows. You can add on other things if you like for an additional charge. They are on the corner so parking is behind their restaurant. They have seating inside and out. The order window is outside. Over all Penny's food is always fresh and made to when you order it. It is a staple there in Highland Park.

Service was terrible, I asked for a side of ranch and salsa. They charge for both, what a joke. Plus there prices on the menu don't match the actual prices. And to top it off the cleanliness of the place was very questionable, they need a B grade. Never coming back

Love the food at Penny's! Never ordered something I didn't like. They have great burgers and the patty melt is amazing. Honestly, they have some of the best huevos rancheros in town for a local fast food spot, and their french fries are perfect-- one order of those is enough for three people! Staff is always great. My only gripe would be that the line can get kind of long at times, and if you order ahead, you still have to wait in line to pay before you can pick up your food. I wish they had online ordering so I could pay ahead of time and pick up my food right when I get there, but even when I have to wait, it's worth it!

Always amazing food and service...especially love the zucchini fries ! This is a highland park staple that you need to try.

This place is awesome and has been solid for burgers since I've been coming here in the 90s. One of the few places around that serve Orange Bang, which is cool.

We order two pastrami burgers the pastrami was cold service was terrible and they took like 30 minutes to give us the order. Not coming back. 42 dollars for two cold pastrami burgers.

This is the best burger joint when you don't know what to eat. I've been coming here since I was a kid and I absolutely recommend this spot to anyone. It's always clean and best quality food you can ever eat!

Hi, I went this morning to order breakfast when I got my order my breakfast food was not well cook the cashier she was really rude she gave me a dirty look for no reason I will not recommend this restaurant for breakfast food because they will not cook it right

I've been going to Penny's since I was a little girl. They have a great variety of food, the best Horchata, and amazing service. There's something for everyone, and the music is great. The artwork outside is also beautiful, and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. My favorite little spot in Highland Park!

Close, quick, reasonably priced and one of our favourites. They have quite the selection and today I wanted a clubhouse with avocado dinner plate which consists of a huge sandwich, fries and onions rings, garden salad and a roll. $13.98 like seriously? You can't even get a McDonald's meal for the price and the quality of ingredients are good not artificial! I love the fries here but had to order fried zucchini with their kick a$$ ranch. Out of 15 days, 10 are pennys

LOVE this place! I grew up in Highland Park and although I no longer live there, I do stop for a good ol' burger at Penny's when I can. They have great service and the food is great. If it is your first time here get a burger! You won't regret it. They are deliciously fire-grilled and they have a flavor unlike other burger joints around the area. SO GOOD! I get a side of thousand island to dip my fries in but I hear they have great ranch.

Its a neighborhood staple and go to in my area; i had a breakfast burrito and was great, just needed to order more sauce on the side its been a while so i dont have any images but their menu outside shows a good depiction of the sizes of the food

Penny's Burgers is a great spot for non-meat eaters. I ordered their veggie burger and thought it was absolutely delicious! I'm not sure if they make the patty themselves or buy it pre-made, but it was one of those veggie patties that are made with carrots, black beans and other vegetables. It paired well with the mayonnaise, tomatoes, onions, cheese and spinach (my burger didn't come with lettuce, it came with spinach instead). It was all sandwiched between delicious whole wheat buns! Now, the reason I docked a star on my review is because the fries were too salty. I'm a fan of salty fries usually but Penny's was wayyyy too generous with the salt on the seasoned fries they gave me. It made them almost not edible for me. Definitely a great place to check out if you're in the area, so I do encourage you to try it out if you're in Highland Park. There's plenty of parking since it's right in the sam plaza as the 99 Cent Store and AutoZone.

You better be hungry ! This place does not disappoint. I ordered the breakfast burrito with bacon. It was phenomenal ! Hash browns, bacon, cheese eggs and hot sauce make up a spectacular combination that explode with flavor on your traste buds. The portions are out of control. You can split this burrito with someone or skip lunch and dinner ! Can't wait to order some lunch next time I'm in the area. Staff was very friendly and profesional. Prompt service and got my order correct, what else can you ask for.

It's unfortunate that I can't leave a higher review because of the dishonesty of this place. I order the chilaquiles most times that I come here, for a quick food restaurant they aren't bad. I would give them a 4/5 if I was only rating food. However I have pointed out to them several times that they aren't charging me the prices they have posted. Ive been overcharged for chili fries and the chilaquiles 3 out of 4 times I've ordered here. And when I say "your menu says x" they wall away or ignore me, it's infuriating which is why I have stopped going as often as I used to.

Food order had eyelash dining room closed and there were costumers inside sitted eating. I went to 99 cent only for bathroom. Never at there. We'll start chargeback next week

So I've been going to Penny's burgers since I could remember. As a kid with my dad, a young driver cruising around the neighborhood with my brother and now as a family guy, picking up that quick dinner substitute. So I get it prices have to keep up with costs and with the changing times, particularly here in Highland Park. The food is still delicious, and the outdoor patio still gets filled with afternoon sunlight. But charging me $2.00 to switch out my bread for lettuce is just simply ludicrous! They got me saying, "Where's my buns!" At least my pup would enjoy the extra carbs. Lost a star on that transaction.
