Fantastic atmosphere with several different seating options: at the bar, shared table, individual tables. This means the place is comfy for every occasion. They have a nice tapas menu, a nice wood fired grill and an amazing selection of alcohol and cocktails. Service is friendly and fast. Don't miss it!

This place is just a short walk from Lake Merritt, and a nice alternative to waiting in line for a seat at Grand Lake Kitchen. A little pricey, and the servings are on the small size, but the waitstaff were attentive and friendly. Similar vibe and style to Serpentine, another good-but-pricey spot in Dogpatch, San Francisco.

I want to like them more sooo badly ( they're so close to five stars). The cocktails are great -- balanced and generally very well done. They encourage plates to be shared; some are sizable enough for sharing others are more appetizer sized. Like the meatballs. The meatballs are absolutely delicious, but three meatballs in a very small sized pot of sauce is all one can devour, share it between two or more and everybody's left wanting. Two people dining need to order about four items off the menu to be satiated. Not a horrible thing, but with prices as they are, if you have a couple drinks a piece (or a cocktail and a bottle), you'll leave spending close to $100 a piece (with tip). You will leave satisfied, just be prepared for the expense. Food and drinks truly are very good, definitely better than I've had down the street (at multiple places), at similar prices. With all said and done, if you really want to have Charlie Hallowell's food, but at a slightly lower price point, you might want to go across the street to Boot & Shoe if you're okay with pizza and salad. But if you're looking to impress a dining mate, come here, you'll find well-prepared food, and menu that everybody can find something to order from.

Good bar staff. Wide choice. Loud, busy, fun. Good burgers, and other hearty fare

One of my favorite restaurants in Oakland. The staff are great and friendly, they have great drinks and wine selection, and the food is fantastic. I especially like the salmon and vegetables. The gnocchi is excellent, too. To get there, you can walk from BART or take Ford GoBikes (there’s a station directly in front of the restaurant).

One of the best restaurants in the San Francisco bay area. Amazing salads and mains as well as a great bar program. Would recommend traveling for this one.

Now that Chef Rico is running the place, this is the best restaurant in Oakland, maybe the East Bay. Burrata, Pork Shoulder, Steak, Potatoes au Gratin, and the wine and cocktails all amazing. Service was tremendous. A delight all around.
