I really enjoyed the experience and the atmosphere. The menu has a variety of cuisines that are unique to the Penrose. The best part of the meal would have to be the Sushi for me. Didn’t really care for the Halibut or the Caesar salad. The oil was great and the way he prepared the salad in front of you was entertaining. The staff is very attentive and served with pleasure. Overall I was not impressed with the food but to each its own. Love it or hate it and for me it wasn’t worth the price.

Upon exiting the elevator, I got to see the smiling faces of the hosts, so eager and excited to see us. Paula was absolutely amazing, and the smiles were a breath of fresh air after a long drive. Rachel was our server and her joy brought an amazing atmosphere to our table that lingered through the meal. She helped me pick an amazing choice of Thai Cod out on their menu. She brought our drinks out quickly and efficiently. Dacota was amazing as well, always quick to refill our waters and was so happy to help us bag our meals at the end. Clair was also amazing, wowing us as she made our Caesar salad at our very table, indulging in small talk as to not make the silence awkward. The head chef was a master of their art and every bite was a masterpiece. All in all, I would recommend the Penrose room, not just for the food, but for the atmosphere where I felt like a VIP even though I was not an overnight guest.

Google
It took 5 years but the results show it was worth it. This closed down in 2020 and never reopened post pandemic. We’ve been to the Broadmoor many years and enjoyed The Penrose Room before with its views of the sunsetting behind the mountains. It was the old country club look and feel with a dance floor where Lawrence Well and his band with a bubble machine would not have been out of place. NOT anymore! The redesign is beautiful. Just perfect. Brought up to date for current styles, a great lounge to have drinks and appetizers and take in the view from corner windows. The bar is inviting to sit at with a friend and see the mountains through the bottles on glass shelves. Or sit at one of the coffee table style seating in front of the fire place. It’s cozy, hip, and yet has spacious areas. The menu - commendations to the executive chef. Very tasty selection of appetizers along with sushi. Our Penrose sushi roll was one of the most flavorful I have ever had. (And we eat sushi every week). We didn’t have any entrees but it looked really good from beef Wellington for two to Colorado lamb or seafood. Caesar salad is made table side. Again, the best tasting I have every and. Finally, don’t miss the cart martini or old Fashioned. Ot only a fun presentation but the bartender will offer choices of every ingredient and explain the differences. Dinner jackets are required for men (I personally like this touch) it don’t pass on going - they have jackets of all sizes to loan you. If you aren’t sure about dinner jackets- you gotta go for at least a drink and the view at sunset. This is THE best place to dine or sip a drink at the Broadmoor now. Hands down. Great job Broadmoor!

Google
Service is very good, very attentive and friendly. Tablesside ceaser salad was delicious. Dressing made to perfection. I had the veal; it was well cooked not over done with great flavor. Wine list is extensive. We found a beautiful bottle of charisma that was wonderful.

Google
Asked for a vegan meal and was served the blandest vegetables with some rice. Zero sauce, no real flavour, no effort made at all. Most expensive restaurant I went to at Broadmoor and the least accommodating and creative

Google
We had a reservation for my birthday dinner on 1/2/26. We had to wait almost an hour for our table despite having a reservation, which was not ideal, but wouldn’t have been a big deal on its own. Overall, the food and service felt average. I would not describe the experience as “fine dining.” Our water glasses were often empty, and another guest at our table was served her soup without a spoon. It took about 10 minutes before I flagged a staff member down to provide her a spoon. The sushi and drinks were highlights; the entrees were lackluster and pricy. Although we were asked to note any special occasion in our reservation, and we noted my birthday, no mention was made of it. Why ask if not to make the guest feel special? For a meal that cost hundreds, we felt disappointed.

Incredible view. Christmas lights on full display. Reopened after 5 year hiatus. 3 course Coloradan menu. Sushi roll was the stand out this visit. Dessert cart also excellent.

We visited several different restaurants on The Broadmoor property including this one, and I have to say it was such an underwhelming experience. While the food was good, the service and atmosphere was just okay and we overall had a way better time at places like The Golden Bee, La Taverne, and Ristorante Del Lago. We spent our Honeymoon at The Broadmoor and other restaurants we visited made sure to help us celebrate and acknowledge the occasion. At this restaurant our server said a quick congrats and that was it. Now we we weren't expecting anything very special, but compared to how we were received at other restaurants at The Broadmoor where the servers were very engaged with us and some even gave a complimentary dessert, it was disappointing. The Penrose Room offered nothing. We also felt like there was such a double standard with their dress code. While men are required to wear collared shirts and dress coats, we saw multiple women wearing casual wear like sweaters with writing on them and a North Face jacket..... We felt the experience was not worth the $200 that we spent and had such a better time at other places on property! Spend your money at any of the other restaurants that I mentioned.

Yelp
My company has had several small conferences down here. This is an absolute great getaway for teambuilding. It's quiet, historic, it makes you feel extremely peaceful the entire time you're here. The grounds are well-maintained and covered with deer walking all over the ground. There's great places to sit outside eat chat and just take in the fresh air in the mountains. Overall this is great selection for small conference

Yelp
The ultimate fancy restaurant of the springs. The whole Broadmoor area is beautiful especially at night with lights reflecting upon their pond. The food is great and a little pricey but that's to be expected with anything in the Broadmoor. There is a dress code. Food: The food is as beautiful as it is delicious. The menu changes often so expect a unique experience. They offer one of two tasting menu experiences - three or five courses. We went with a three course meal and found it to be plenty of food. One of the stand out dishes was the beef carpaccio which has a flavored oil drizzled on top of a bed of thin raw beef, caviar, and a variety of seasonal vegetables. The meal is served with a few types of breads to try, my personal favorite is the pesto roll (this is still being served as of 5/10/21). Service: The service is excellent and they did a great job of detailing each and every item on your plate. There is an automatic 20% service charge added to the bill. Location: I will admit I got a little lost trying to find the restaurant. It's located on the second floor of one of the tower buildings but ask any attendant and they can direct you right over. We parked at the outer garage and walked over which probably took about 5-7 minutes. Ambiance: They have live music in the restaurant. The décor and style of the restaurant is elegant with a more old fashioned feel to it.

Yelp
The dish with the prosciutto (speck ham) is CHESTRNUT tortellini and it is OUT OF THIS WORLD if you know how to enjoy food. This truffle, she is fantastic. Many thanks. The Hamachi was delightful the passion fruit was a blast! Great. There's a good amount of zest as befits an excellent restaurant.

Yelp
A great experience and end to our babymoon/Christmas experience at the Broadmoor. We opted for the 3 course meal but still got some extra tastings along the way. I enjoyed the mocktail I had as well which was actually a drink with vodka but the delightful waitress said they could make it without. It has muddled grapes, lime, and soda. Very refreshing and delicious! The halibut wasn't my favorite and I wish I could've had some meat or something else satisfying (but I'm pregnant!). Haha. So needless to say, i went with the halibut fish recommendation! The scallops and pasta first course was delightful! The dessert baba was my husband's favorite and mine was the sweet potato pie. I didn't care for the poach pears on top but I loved the sweet potato part. The baba tasted like a donut. The amuse was a bite full of hummus and a nice teaser to start the meal. I would recommend it. It's one of the better places to eat at the broadmoor and you can't beat the ambiance.

Yelp
I have visited the Broadmoor multiple times and on this trip finally dined at Penrose Room. This is still Colorado's only five diamond restaurant. Ambiance: The restaurant is classically themed, very old school with large chandeliers. The views were excellent. Service: Our main server was friendly, but she seemed out of place, this is the type of restaurant where you expect a classically trained server with 10 plus years of experience. She was good, but could have worked at any restaurant. The head waiter was excellent though and we felt welcome. A 20% service charge is automatically charged. Food: Some dishes stood out, the black truffle Mac and cheese made our night. Max the chef came to our table and generously shaved a lot of truffle and introduced himself. The venison was tender and the Froi Gras was buttery. Aside from the aforementioned dishes, everything else was good, but not exceptional. Because we are in Colorado, I thought that wild game should have been the focus instead of seafood. Maybe it was because I ordered the chefs tasting. For over $300 per a couple I expected to be blown away.

Yelp
Was very much looking forward to taking my fiancée to enjoy the tasting menu at "the best restaurant in Colorado" for her birthday. Service was outstanding but the food was really disappointing. Heavy, uninspired, unimaginative. By the time the cheese and dessert rolled around I just wanted to pay my $800 and leave. Every other tasting menu on the planet I've tried that had a similar price point has always left me absolutely wowed. Sadly, such was not the case here. For example, one of the courses was a "Kobe beef skewer," which was a tough slice of meat served with a dollop of hummus (that was skinned over by being in the air too long) and a mini pita. Embarrassing. The service staff could read the disappointment on our faces and bent over backwards to be accommodative. I appreciated their efforts, but the only part of the meal that was spectacular was how spectacularly mediocre (and that's being generous) it was. Forbes and AAA should rethink their rating on this place.

Yelp
Since this place won so many awards, we drove almost 2 hours during a weekday after work to dine here. I know, we're crazy. The service is of course really good. They really cater to you like personal butlers. I kind of expected this since they have a rather strict dress code and the hotel just exudes old rich and extravagance vibes. On to the food. Wasn't impressed at all. Jalea of seafood - some of it was actually chewy, so I think they overlooked it. lamb - parts of it was gamey, i definitely didn't expect that from a restaurant like this. Truffle egg espuma - my favorite dish! It's just egg and potato but it's sooooooo delicious! This was definitely worth the drive. Halibut - it's ok, not good, not bad Pistachio gateaux - not good Soufflé - delicious but could be airier. A bit too cakey. So a really good egg dish and really good service.

Yelp
Turning 50 called for some extravagance and such was bestowed upon my humble self with a long weekend stay at the famous Broadmoor, complete with dining and activities...... yes I am beyond lucky! Now one of the highlights was to be the full on tasting menu at the equally renown "Pemrose Room" at the top of the South Tower, thus the missus and I got dolled up and ready for some high end, elongated dining! Right off the bat we already knew how legendary the service was to be as frankly, the Broadmoor specializes in impeccable service from top to bottom-- one of the most notable features of this ultra lux property. This of course was no different as we were eagerly seated despite arriving 30 min ahead of time to soak up the ambience and maybe a cocktail to get the mood set. Ambience: this is where I find myself a tad stymied: the only way I can describe the dining room is as follows: cruise line mid 70's-- from the low ceiling with gaudy chandeliers, to the seemingly ancient and ornately colored carpet, I felt like I stepped out of a time machine.... the "jazzy trio" that supplied the evening's entertainment also looked as if they once headlined the cruise ship circuit back in the 70's down to the dress that the singer wore..... some graced the dance floor throughout the evening which enhanced that kind of awkward "wedding / bar mitzvah" vibe that I couldn't decide whether it was endearing or corny to the max! So be it..... the food will dazzle, right?? The Chef's tasting menu consists of "about" 5 courses and with the added cheese course (we added) and bonus items that our chef added, it came to more like 8 courses total. The standouts of the evening were the black cod, which was wonderfully delicate and served with a cauliflower purée and black garlic reduction, and the Hamache served with dolloped salmon roe, rice crisps and fresh cucumber. The scallop dish was served also with cauliflower, this time a seasoned cross sectioned floret topped with a chimichurri and an ornament of sweet curry and cumin. The main course was a Colorado lamb chop served sous vide and seared atop asparagus, a layered potato cake and a red wine demi reduction. The lamb was, of course, high quality but I was puzzled by the thick fat layer that was left on the chop, that is usually carved away, giving this cut it's famous "lollipop" shape. Maybe some enjoy the fat?? For me it was a let down of sorts as lamb fat tends to be very gamey. The dessert courses were fine-- the cheeses offered up were good but the array unbalanced-- 4/5 were hard cheeses and the only soft rind was a blue goat. The sweets were their signature birthday chocolate ganache and a refreshing merengue, mango, sorbet which paired well with the moscato provided as the wine pairing. We were treated to a visit by the executive chef whose resume bullets include French Laundry and Alinea, despite the fact that he looked like he could be 17 yrs old. Nevertheless it's always nice to meet the chef when you are being offered his very best. All in all the price came to slightly under 800.00 for the evening, which I thought was "ok?" But frankly, I have had much more creative and daring tasting menus in dining rooms that didn't evoke an evening in the Catskills. I doubt I would return to Penrose any time soon, but for what it was it was a "kitschy" and decent evening of high dining. In any case, go to the Broadmoor a lease once in your life!!!!! Yelp
Spectacular chefs tasting menu. I've done quite a few tastings in LA and honestly wasn't expecting much in Colorado Springs. Proven wrong. This place is classy, located in a side tower at the Broadmoor Hotel. You take an elevator to the top floor and are greeted by live music and a superb view. Service is great, although I had a different person for every course and option. It was kind of funny. In any case, I posted photos of my meal. Everything was delicious and creative. The speed of the courses was perfect. Although only 5 courses, there were really 12 separate items. Overall a great deal for the quality of meal.

Yelp
I was invited here for my aunt/uncle anniversary dinner. I see why it's 5 stars. The views are amazing, food was amazing, service was amazing. I told my spouse he can sell whatever he needs to sale to make this the location for my next birthday celebration. It's not everyday that you get a 5 star experience like this but it was worth every penny.

Yelp
I absolutely love this restaurant and the broadmoor! Great live music, beautiful view, and absolutely hands down best service! We came here last weekend after getting engaged on property...and were not disappointed! Thank you for the outstanding service and amazing dinner! Photos attached.

Yelp
This is a Forbes 5 star and AAA 5 diamond restaurant so that does speak for itself. From the moment you walk in to when you leave they make you feel special and attended to. Men don't forget a jacket as its required!! But if you do, they will let you borrow one. This place is very expensive but trust me when I tell you, it's worth it for that once and a lifetime experience!! For two people it was over $300. They have 2 options, a 3 course meal where you can choose each course from a menu or the chefs tasting menu - which is about $70 more per person. We did the 3 course meal and were not disappointed. You also receive between meal bites - like a "pre-dessert" which acts as a palette cleanser. Their menu does change so the menu we had has just been out a week. All the food was exquisitely prepared and just beautiful. The servers are so friendly and knowledgeable so they make sure you end up getting just what you are looking for. The views are amazing - try to ask for a seat near the window if you are eating at around 6pm and then dress up for an evening that will just blow your taste buds away!

Yelp
The Penrose Room is (I believe) the only AAA five diamond restaurant in Colorado. My wife and I finally decided it give it a go. It's in the top 3 restaurants I've dined at (the others a 3-star Michelin in Italy and another AAA 5 diamond in Florida). The service here was spectacular! There are multiple folks who take care of you, they all greeted us warmly and made us feel welcome and comfortable. The food was good but it was the over the top service that makes this a great dining experience! For the menu there were two dining levels. There is a three course meal and a five course tasting menu; you can also add a wine pairing to the tasting menu. I wanted the tasting menu, it sounded great. My wife however didn't. It had a crab salad course, a lobster course and a venison course along with the others. Shellfish and "game" are her favorite.. I was bummed. So we went for the three course. I did ask what wines they paired for it and the wines sounded nice (some nice bubbles, a kerner, and a nice Cab among the selection) So the three course covered a starter, main and dessert, you could also sub a cheese plate for dessert. Starters my wife got a salad I got pork belly...yum! Main was salmon and a ribeye for me. I asked if I could just add a cheese plate before dessert (that was fine). My wife ordered a chocolate cake, I asked about a soufflé (not shown on the menu) they said they can do that on request (yippee). The staters were good, the pork belly was great! Why is it the really good things are not healthy for you? My wife enjoyed the salmon, it had some indian spicing to it (she is not normally a fan of that, but loved it). My ribeye was good, seasoned well, but a bit past medium-rare. it was tasty and I chose not to bring it up. Next was my cheese plate. The wheeled over the cheese cart, described what was there and I picked the cheeses I wanted. I love cheese plates and this was good. The desserts were great, I loved my soufflé. The also brought a happy anniversary cake. There was one last sweet course of small candies (a common thing for places like this). I forgot to mention there was a little pre-starter "amuse bouché" if I spelled that right. Plus a little palette cleaner in the middle. I picked a bottle of white (Kerner ) and red (barbaresco) and finished the meal with an Armagnac. It was a great dinner, spectacular service but of course pricey (but worth it to us). If you have not tried a high end place you should try it! (And if you are wondering with the drinks and such, we uber'd down and back..probably a good idea )

Yelp
My husband and I spent Valentines Day here.. OMG, amazing! Service was great and food was delicious! It's definitely an expensive experience but you have to try it at least once. We had the three course meal option only because we know we can't finish the 5 course. Can't wait for the next special day to come back!

Yelp
Good meal and a beautiful view. The only thing I was a little disappointed in was the amuse-bouche was just chicken stock. It was by far the worst amuse-bouche I have had in any restaurant and felt like they were running late so that's what they put out. Also, I had a wine question and they never sent the sommelier. I ended up not ordering wine.

Yelp
We celebrated our first Valentines here. Let us say; what an amazing experience The food, service, ambiance, view & entertainment were perfect. Worth every dime (lots of dime$$$). Well be back!

Yelp
This is one of the finest restaurants I've ever eaten at. There we 6 of us that celebrated my wife's birthday. Service, atmosphere, quality and selection of food was all outstanding. We ate venison, scallops, lobster, and wagyu beef. Everything was prepared to perfection. If your willing to spend a little extra, I'm sure you will have a meal you will not forget.

Yelp
For years I had heard about the Penrose Room, and it was just as amazing as I had heard and worth the wait. This is a very elegant place, and I am not sure I have ever been to a place like this one. The live music was amazing, and there was a dance floor, so at any time, you could get up and dance with the one you were with if you so chose to. The Penrose Room does things as a somewhat fixed pricing. You can select from three courses, four course, five etc. If you so wish, you can have wine pairings as well. We met a couple on the shuttle home that did a seven course wine pairing. I think they were stuffed after that, but they really had rave things to say about that as well. We choose the most moderate, the three course, and it was by far plenty of food by the time we had drinks and the dessert. However, I think it would be fun to do the wine pairing sometime. Of course, the food was a sight to see (I posted several photos of our food), and was very delicious. You want to dress up for this place. Men wore coats, ladies, mostly dresses, or nice attire. Absolutely no jeans, or they will not seat you - no joke. We were actually complimented by the staff and several patrons on our attire(we overdressed - went in classy vintage clothing, without knowing the expectation), so coming from them, that was a huge compliment.

Yelp
Amazing business dinner.. breathtaking views, scrumptious fare, soup to nuts, and outstanding service.

Kim N.

Yelp
This place is very odd. Let's start with the positive: beautiful setting, nice live music and some of the food is VERY good. Now for the weirdness: the wait staff seems VERY odd. They seem like stepford robots who have been trained (badly) to be waiters in a fancy restaurant. They keep coming up and interrupting us with "pardons the interruption." DONT get the scallops. I am usually not one to send things back, but I did and the second batch was just as bad. When I told them the batch wasn't good and the waiter said "sorry they didn't fit the bill." Whenever you asked them anything they didn't have a script for, they were super awkward. We began wondering how these people are trained. Very odd place. Remember, no scallops.
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
We always wanted to try out the Penrose So hard to get in and we were so ready for a great experiance but unless you looking for a 70s coat and tie over priced,( ok service at the best) experience don't waist your time or money Its only ok food priced like they forgot what a modern-day great resturant should be. Stuffed shirt is an understatement. Dont spend your money or time on this place There are many better resturants that don't require a dress coat with real service to experience and enjoy around the Broadmore.

Yelp
I had a very difficult time on how to rate this experience. Pros: -The views are amazing and beautiful. Truly gorgeous. -The decor is sumptuous and romantic, very nice. -The service was mostly impeccable. Cons: -The food was just OK. Nothing impressive. -The scallops they served us were bad, I ate one and realized it had 'turned'. Got food poisoning and was very sick the next day. We had a fixed menu, so I only got to try a few things. Portions were very small, I don't know the cost, but I am sad to say that serving bad seafood at such a high end restaurant is VERY disappointing.

Yelp
We were extremely disappointed in our.meal. The quality was poor compared to the price. This restaurant does not qualify for Michelin 5 star rating.

Yelp
a fabulous place to celebrate and special occasion. My husband took me here for my 40th birthday and it was such an amazing night. We got dressed up, had a fabulous, multi-course dinner while listening to a LIVE jazz band. Then ended the night with dancing! It was perfect.

Yelp
Went for dinner for our anniversary. They do it right. Valet was complimentary, amazing decor, staff made us feel like royalty. The experience was awesome. Dress code was refreshing, tables are far enough away from each other so the conversations was private and enjoyable. The staff was friendly, accommodating and not overly ambitious with the "quality checks". Now... the food. Amazing. We experienced the chef's tasting menu and its was incredible. This chef is an artist. It was an expensive evening but its more than dinning here. The experience was almost 3 hours and it was so nice not to be rushed. Best money I have spent ever on an evening out. Thanks... PS... No kids were there and that was so nice! Don't hate on me for this. I have 3 of my own but sometimes, you just want an evening out without little voices in the back ground and its a gamble when choosing a special place to honor your marriage/wife/lover/friend.

Yelp
We celebrated our anniversary at the Penrose Room. It was a real treat and pleasure. The staff was great and the food was a-star experience! Price-wise it is an expensive restaurant, however, the quality is outstanding and unlike other expensive restaurants, you do not leave hungry. We had the three-course meal and were pleasantly surprised that between the courses there were surprise food items, which were amazing! The cocktails were absolutely delicious too. We ventured into the desert menu and chose the chef's choice of 3 deserts, which were the perfect finish to the meal. Of course, the view itself cannot go unmentioned. On the one side the mountain and on the other, the lights of the city. In the background, live music, which really made the experience romantic and special!

Yelp
Absolutly amazing experience. I would stay at the Broadmoor again just to come in town and eat here. Every course was perfect. The timing of delivery, the service, the quantity, the quality....you name it, it was spot on. If you are in Colorado Springs for anything, go here! It isnt cheap, but it is worth every penny!

Dennis R.

Yelp
From greetings to good-byes the Penrose Room is a warm, friendly, and unforgettable experience. We both went with the chef's selection and every offering was a delight. Plan on a 3 hour pace for the 5 course meal. A wonderful duet played music from the past for the listening and dancing pleasure of the guests. Dress up and make a night of it.
google avatar

Amber G.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant! We went to the restaurant for our anniversary and the service was perfect. The views from the restaurant were so beautiful. It was clear that everything that was served to us was fresh and addressed about your names. I was recommended a truffle Alfredo that was served to me by the chef himself. On top of that there was a beautiful band that played all night long, and invited you to dance on the dance floor, and yes there was a dance floor. Beautiful chandeliers, great wine, great environment. This was by far the most expensive meal I've ever had, but it was worth every penny.

Yelp
This is a restaurant in a very old, historic, hotel. Despite the food being very good, and the service being even better, the pretentiousness of the room makes you wish you were somewhere else and praying the night might come to an end soon. My wife and I are In our 60's and we are just WAY too young to enjoy what's happening here. We enjoyed the bar scene and would return to the Hotel Bar for drinks and snacks. I do have to say that I mentioned that I was looking for somewhere with a great souffle for dessert and our waiter said that while souffles were not on the menu, they did have a few available. We each had the Grand Marnier souffle for dessert and it was awesome! However, when it was all said and done with tax and mandatory 20% tip, we got out for just under $400 for 2. The wife ordered an $18/glass Chardonnay and it was really bad. We told the Somalia and she brought another wine which, after we got the bill, turned out to cost $35/glass. It was good, but DAMN!, $35/glass? If you have way too much money and it's burning a hole in your pocket then this is the place to go. If you are under 70 (75) you will do better most anywhere else on this property. I love the ambiance of the Broadmoor and hope to return but I will not return to the Penrose Room.

Yelp
Very nice. Went for belated anniversary dinner after enduring hurricane and tornados to our beach condo and primary home. Did not disappoint! Service was great. Nice music by trio and all the dishes were superbly prepared. Yes, it's expensive, but worth experiencing. They even had a prix fix menu which was tasty. Seafood selections and chef's surprises were exquisite. Cocktails like home. Beautiful old world/west charm. Suggest you go near sunset for best views.

Yelp
Average food. Staff not very attentive. Dinner with large group for parents 60th anniversary, not the special spot we had remembered.

Yelp
Too expensive and very stuffy! We had a gift card and while the food and experience was amazing (we went for Easter brunch), we felt very out of place. It's not a casual just eat there any day kind of place. This is a place for an anniversary or something really special.

Yelp
We were skeptical at first because the options for the first course under the tasting menu were a little out of our comfort zone, but our wonderful server Kyle allowed us to do a cheese plate for our first course, which was nothing short of exceptional. For my entree I had the halibut, which was hands down the best fish I've ever had. It was prepared perfectly and the flavor of the fish accompanied with the mushroom sauce was spectacular. My dad had the scallops, which also were perfectly prepared and had amazing flavor. These two dishes were stand out. My mom had the cherry pound cake for dessert, which had good flavor, I had the s'mores dessert which I frankly didn't love, but an error on my part in ordering it. My dad had the chocolate jardin which he loved. All around very pleased with the meal and the service was top notch!

Yelp
I enjoyed a lot about my experience at Penrose Room. My date and I had 3 very pleasant courses. For an appetizer, I ordered the lemon thyme ricotta, which was fantastic. Even she enjoyed the bite I gave her (and she is not a ricotta fan). She chose the foie gras; for moral reasons, I abstained, but she was all smiles. Our entrée choices were the cedar wrapped walleye and the venison loin respectively. I got the fish and we agreed I chose the better dish. It was perfectly prepared, the bourbon beurre blanc made that dish! Our desserts were fine, but neither of us is particularly enthusiastic about sweets, so I'll say nothing about that. The meal started with a sad note, however. The amuse-bouche was a huge disappointment. I'd rather they not have brought anything out. It was clear that it had been pre-made and sitting in the kitchen for quite a while. The purée was crusty and, had it been later in the meal, I'd have sent it back. It was insulting. I chose to ignore it and let the night continue on. The ambiance was not quite up my alley either. It felt unnecessarily pretentious with a sort of fake elegance. It reminded me of a meal we had at the "fancy" restaurant in Disneyland a couple years ago. The live music also left me with a sour taste in my mouth. The song choices made it feel like we were on a cruise ship or a 70s nightclub lounge (think Bill Murray on SNL). All in all, I'm glad we went but we'll never go back. But likely, a California hipster is not the management's target demographic.

Yelp
This is an updated 2016 review. The Penrose Room continues to live up to its reputation of excellence. Every detail is attended to and every morsel of food was absolutely stunning in its presentation and mouth popping tasty flavors. The wait staff was young, but plentiful, helpful and attentive. They were always available while not being intrusive. The 4 man orchestra with a female blues singer added to the overall experience and we enjoyed dancing between courses and after the meal. ...and the noise level is low. In fact, we could actually have a pleasant conversation with each other. Recommend you start with one of their craft cocktails. Wow. The Penrose Room offers 3, 4 or 7 course meals. We had the three course meal this year. ...and of course in this French inspired restaurant there are extras, from the amuse bouche and breakfast pastry to take home at the end. I had a delicious, melt in my mouth pork belly, garnished with baby vegetables. It was almost too pretty to eat. The roasted Colorado lamb was tender, juicy and prepared perfectly. My wife had the 64 degree egg that she raved about. The wine offerings are all perfectly matched if you ask for help from the sommelier. There is a new chef on board this year and he continues to exceed expectations. I was put off a bit that many of the appetizers and entrees had an "up charge" or supplemental fee, over and above the prix fixe price, however, I am sure he knows what things costs and prices accordingly. For most people this is a special occasion place because of the price. Yes, it was well worth it. The Penrose Room is a special place, with the highest quality food, the most caring service, an exceptional wine list and amazing views to the outside. No wonder they have so many prestigious awards. They deserve each and every one of them and more. I can't imagine a trip to Colorado Springs without stopping here. This is among the best restaurants in the world.

Yelp
Excellent food and beautiful location with fabulous views. It's the Broadmoor so of course it is not cheap but the quality makes it good value. Would recommend for brunch or dinner(need a jacket), just spectacular.

Yelp
Very beautiful experience , great customer service, food and entertainment! The portions were small, but we still seemed to leave without still being hungry. The cheese dessert option was fantastic and they have us beautiful complimentary birthday desserts!

Yelp
As far as ambiance goes - it's probably the best in Colorado a 5 star. The wait staff was excellent and attentive - 5 stars. I just can't give a 5 for food because it (the halibut) definitely lacked vegetables. Same goes for the trout. In other words - the last bite tasted exactly like the first bite - both very good, but it would taste even better with a bite of vegetables to clear the pallet once in a while.

Yelp
My husband took me to Penrose Room for my birthday. We are new to living in the Springs and I was eager to experience the best of the Broadmoor. I love good food and always look forward to a fine dining experience. I also know to expect that I might leave hungry, that seems to go with the territory. Penrose Room didn't disappoint in that way. We did 4 courses, to include a cheese course. I can't eat gluten, so to begin with they brought me out some warmed, sliced toast. It was so unremarkable especially when these days, most higher end restaurants have really good GF rolls. My salad was good, but really only a couple of bites worth of food. For our main dishes, I had the venison, my husband the bacon wrapped rabbit. Both were excellent, but again tiny portions. It felt a bit like a teaser, I could have had double, if not triple, the amount of meat and I'm not even a big eater. I know this is to be expected in a fine dining restaurant, but this was a bit extreme. Lastly, my dessert was disappointing. Again because I have to have GF food, my only option was a chocolate pot de creme. It was incredibly blah - it tasted like gelatinous chocolate pudding. The texture was all wrong and the flavor was no better than Jello instant pudding. Not what I would have expected from a fine dining experience, again especially since these days, most places offer some decent GF options. The ambiance is elegant, perhaps a bit pretentious for my taste, but keeping with the historic nature of the hotel. The service was impeccable, although we were helped by so many different wait staff that we had no idea who our actual waiter/waitress was. I enjoyed the live music and watching the couples dancing, many of whom were very good ballroom dancers. All-in-all, it was a nice experience, but one I only need to have once. For the high price tag, the food just didn't quite meet up my expectations and the portions were ridiculously too tiny.

Yelp
Unbelievable. Emotional. World-class. Questions? As a world-travelled chef and baker, I am not over-awed just because of a restaurant's location and reputation - I judge the merits for myself. And oh my, the Penrose Room is the real deal folks. We've gone three times in the past two years (it is expensive, and we prefer the $180/person chef-tasting with wine-pairing): two wedding anniversaries and just before my last deployment to Afghanistan. Each time the staff at the Penrose graced us with personal notes of congratulations (anniversaries) and luck (pre-deployment - didn't work though, I got wounded; or perhaps it did work because I wasn't killed...). The Penrose Room is definitely deserving of it's 5-diamond rating, it's sterling reputation, and it's niche as Colorado Springs' (if not all of Colorado's) premier culinary experience. This tops my dining experiences at the elite Four Season's in both Chicago and Doha (Qatar), the seafood's on par with Bob Chin's (then #3 rated restaurant in US) and our fresh seafood experience living in Hawaii, and the beef as tender as the Kobe beef I had in while in Kobe, Japan. It's worth every penny, and I'd have been glad to roll up my sleeves and scrub pots just for a glimpse inside the executive chef's brain (and kitchen). Each course is tantalizingly introduced, impeccably served, and I found myself rolling my eyes in approbation and appreciation for true culinary genius. Not puffery or hyperbole, this is cuisine realizing its fullest potential to touch the human experience.

Yelp
This review is long over do! My family and I started staying at the Broadmore hotel for the new year last year. It is now our yearly tradition to spoil ourselves for a years hard work. This year we ate at the Penrose room and let me tell you ... it was absolutely fantastic! I have never experience such a wonderful time in my life. Let me start by saying I'm just an average every day Joe. I'm not use to this kind of attention but I could definitely get use to it. The Penrose room was recommended by some coworkers so I put it on my to do list. Unfortunately I was not aware of the dress code and I did not pack dress pants or a jacket. No problem the maître d' went out of his way to find both for me and instead of making me feel bad or out of place he was very apologetic as if it was his fault I was not prepared. Suitable attire was provided and we were shown to our table. Since I have waited so long to write this review I have forgotten what exactly we ordered but I remember it was 7 courses. 7 courses of perfectly prepared heaven. They even made some substitutes for our particular dietary needs. My wife and I our adventurous when it comes to food, so we will try most anything that does not include pork. That being said the only thing I did not like was foie gras. Our waiter had a strong accent from India I believe, which made understanding him a little fun, but he was the most accommodating waiter I've ever had. He, and everyone we dealt with truly understood customer service. I really can't write enough good things about this place. The best I can do is advise you go there your self and experience it first hand. I give you my personal assurance, unless you are impossible to please you won't be disappointed. I must add, take your wallet. This place is a fabulous experience but it ain't cheep.

Yelp
I've stayed at the Broadmoor several times, but this was the first time I tried their signature restaurant. I ended up coming here twice. I liked what I ate so much the first time I ordered the exact same menu the second time (foie gras, Duck A L'orange, Gâteau aux Fruits). Next time I'll sit at the bar and just have the Gâteau aux Fruits and a glass of port. A restaurant that provides a reason to dress up, look sharp, and go out for the evening. I've never seen another restaurant like this in the U.S.A (or elsewhere), although similar places must exist. The hostess told me that they plan for guests to come for the entire evening - for a night of dining, socializing, and dancing. Tables are arranged around a fairly large dance floor, and I think a live band plays each evening (think American Songbook with old-timey dancing + jazzy takes on Adult Contemporary). A very elegantly decorated restaurant, refined like the rest of the Broadmoor. Unless you are there primarily to dance, I recommend asking for a table away from the dance floor (quieter), with the tables overlooking the lake the best (I thought the city view pretty boring). As noted, the food was very very good. The portions are massive, so I don't see the point of ordering anything except the 3 course dinner (although I assume the portions for the 7 course tasting menu are much smaller). Two very nice evenings, the first made memorable by the fact that the couple sitting at a nearby table were celebrating their 64th!!! wedding anniversary. The bar associated with the restaurant looks like a cool place to hang out.

Yelp
I came for dinner here on my birthday, during my honeymoon with the husband. I had made the reservations ridiculously early in advance, and mentioned in passing that this was the honeymoon. When we got to our table, we had a lovely hand written card thanking us for coming and congratulating us on our special occasion. The menu has some lovely items on it, so we went for the 7 course, chef picked choices with the wine pairings. So fancy! And of course, I'm sure we gave the chef a heart attack with the "Husband can't have gluten or dairy. Pls. advise." The dishes they sent out were so good you would have never known something may have been missing/replaced/etc. Of course, being the dairy lover I am, I made sure they knew I loved cheese and could have it, so I got a cheese course and he got a sorbet. Mmm. Cheese. The wines that were paired with the food matched perfectly and tasted amazing. I only wish I had remembered the wines I liked so I could continue my taste-bud love. Ah well, it shall remain a golden memory. Our last course/dessert had "Congratulations" written on it in chocolate fudge! Oh never has that word been so tasty. The service was amazing. Like, I can't believe how good it was. Fresh napkins everywhere, simultaneous dish serving and our server even took our picture for us. Even at a classy place. She didn't even blink. There was also dancing. The band was excellent, jazzy, not to loud. Gave a nice ambiance to the place. The views are just fantastic. Mountains on one side, the city on the other. The place is on the 9th floor (or 8th?) and you can see far and wide. The restrooms were neat, posh and fancy. Of course. Like the rest of the place! Just know, this is not cheap. It was delicious, excellent and fancy but definitely a special event kind of place. Tinfoil swans are only enjoyable if enjoyed a memorable few times in a life.

Yelp
Where to begin... Over the years, I have had the pleasure of dining at some of the most renowned restaurants in the United States and Europe. I will not say that the meals I've had at the Penrose Room are the best, but it would be hard to choose another meal from another restaurant that was quantifiably better. When you factor in the price of the Penrose Room and the beautiful setting that is the Broadmoor Hotel, you would be hard pressed to find a better dining experience. In summation, if you have the chance, have a meal at the Penrose Room on a Friday or Saturday night; you will not be disappointed. Also, show up an hour or two early and enjoy a drink by the lake.

Yelp
Our visit felt like off season for the waitstaff and the chefs. Communication between our waitress and the sommelier was poor. The sommelier clearly did not know the list. The Caesar salad was advertised as table side, but seriously lacked the authenticity previously found at the Broadmoor for from scratch Ceasar salad. The dressing was not made tableside with olive oil and egg yolk, not even anchovies. Instead, the dressing came out of a spray can. Our main entrees came out cold and well beyond the medium rare we had requested for the venison and ribeye. The desserts could not be finished. We are well traveled foodies and had come tonight for a taste of both nostalgia and haute cuisine, but sadly got neither.

Yelp
How are there not more reviews about this place?! This is the most incredible dining experience I've ever had. The atmosphere, the location, the attentive and friendly staff, the attention to detail, the live swing/jazz band!!! Yes, your hosts will watch your every move so that you can get up and dance in between courses to the live band playing in front of your table/booth. Your couse will be put on hold until you return to your table. Flawlessly executed. It's been a year since I've been here (and had the chef's tasting with wine pairing) but will update my review when I return this August. It is now the only 5 star & 5 diamond restaurant (having recently achieved their 5th star) in all of CO. The Broadmoor Hotel, where this restaurant is located, is an experience in of itself.
