"Thankfully, the planet didn’t descend into a nuclear winter during the Cold War, so Soviet propaganda posters and unexploded missile shells now work as funny bar decorations. People’s Republik is a great little beer bar on the outer edge of the square that has pictures of Lenin and Che Guevara on the walls in addition to a darts board and (weirdly since no one ever dances here) disco balls. With things like Cuban sandwiches and New York strip steak, the menu is surprisingly broad for bar food, but ultimately it’s still just bar food, so don’t come here for dinner - come here to drink and plot a revolution (or maybe just argue about Medicare For All)." - Dan Secatore

Ok, I'm gonna say it. This is my personal favorite brunch spot in Brooklyn. First up is the staff, they are SUPER nice, laid back and helpful. Been many a time and have never seen more than one server/ bartender working at once, yet they manage to serve a full restaurant with ease. The unlimited mimosas are the way to go, they NEVER stop pouring more, and they seem to get stronger as the day moves on. While there is a standard time limit, I've never seen them actually tell someone their time was up. The food is awesome, best brunch burger anywhere in the city - ask for the egg cooked through if you don't want a mess. The yard is a good call in the summer. Come for the brunch food, stay for jenga and all day brunch drinking .

Went here last minute for brunch because they had no wait. However, they only had one bartender serving drinks and waiting tables. There weren't that many people in there, but food and drinks still took a long time. I got the $15 bottomless mimosas, but they were really watered down. They hardly had any champagne in there. The food took a long time, and my salmon eggs benedict were cold when I got them. The home fries were good, and so were the chicken and waffles, but nothing spectacular about the food. I most likely would not go back to this restaurant to eat, maybe just for drinks if I'm in the neighborhood. They have lots of board games around for people to play.

This review is for brunch. The biggest "complaint" that I could have with People's Republic of Brooklyn (hereafter PRB) is that the place doesn't really belong on Smith Street. The pace of the place is laid back. It's chill. And not in that kind of artificial chill way where establishments want you to think that it's relaxed, when you're actually on a timer. We ordered our food, and the guy in back fired up the griddles. Just one guy, wearing a t-shirt. Made us everything to order. No frills. The food was good too. Eggs properly poached. Sauces yummy. I got the smoked salmon benedict, because the waitress suggested it. The fish comes from Shelsky's next door and was good. Our waitress was nice, and pretty good about the refills on the bloodies and mimosas. Kill Bill was on TV. It was a good brunch. I'd go back.
