"If you’re getting a little tired of the usual seafood, Italian, and Cuban options that dominate Key West, go to Pepper Pot. The small Trinidadian restaurant on a quiet residential street makes buttery, warm roti with curry chicken, curry goat, curry shrimp, vegetables, and more. They also serve a really delicious geera pork sandwich that comes on a soft roll with tender cubes of meat and diced Florida avocado. It’s perfect for a little beach picnic or inhaling alone inside the quiet dining room, which is a great place to hide from the loud bars a few blocks away on Duval. " - ryan pfeffer

This was easily the best meal we had as a family during our trip to Key West. We tried the Curry Chicken Roti, Pulled Pork Sandwich, Jerk Chicken Sandwich, and Potato Salad; all of them were excellent. I would highly recommend taking the time to give it a try. It's a little out of the way, but it's well worth the trip to get what feels like home-cooked comfort food from Trinidad. I'm excited to visit here again on our next trip to the keys!

Google
Go here! Hole in the wall place with really amazing food. Really sweet, dedicated owner and large portions. Everything we tried was amazing. Definitely best paired with the exceptional house-made hot sauces. They sound pretty hot but were definitely tolerable and add so much

Google
Simply the best Caribbean food my friends and I have ever had. Do not visit Key West and spend a dime at tourist chains and corporate owned clones. Please, make a respectful visit to a local establishment. We were greeted by a friendly and charismatic husband and wife team. Typically, it takes me a few bites to decide if I'm truly going to enjoy a meal. Before finishing my first bite -- I knew that the sandwich I had ordered, would become the most enjoyable meal I had eaten across my entire vacation. Every sandwich we ordered was off the charts good. The scotch bonnet hot sauce has an unmistakable flavor with a unique heat that didn't overwhelm the food -- instead it only enhanced every bite. If I had the authority, I'd give this place a Michelin star in an instant. Oh and before I forget, the potato salad changed my life. I will not sleep until I manage to recreate something even 1/10th as refreshing and delicious as Pepper Pot Island's potato salad.

So glad we discovered this restaurant for lunch! The owners Amy and Shane have a great thing going here. We had the geera pork and jerk shrimp sandwiches. Both were delicious!! Wonderful flavors and generous portions. I also tried the homemade tamarind iced tea. Lightly sweetened and perfect for a hot day. Get off the main drag and make the effort to try this restaurant. You won’t be disappointed.

Google
This is the best in all Florida! Great people cooking and serving delicious food, this is a must stop in Key West. I devoured the geera pork and have a dhal bowl to go. Not because i wasnt full, but i really want to taste it again in Miami.

Jocelyn Melechinsky

Google
Our favorite meal from our trip to Key West! We got the goat curry roti and plantains both of which were cooked perfectly, and the tamarind tea made in-house. If you are looking for healthy, delicious, and relatively inexpensive food, support this local business. If we were local we would eat here every day!

David Hayes

Google
Worth getting off the main streets to walk to this great little restaurant! Amazing food! Had the goat curry and shrimp curry. Both were outstanding. The sauce and flavors were outstanding. Highly recommend.

Max Marin

Google
Just like grandma Shaffina used to make! This is the most authentic trinidadian food I have ever had in the U.S. If you love culture and curry, come to Pepper Pot. They are not shy with the meat and the amount of food you get makes this place the best value and best tasting food on the island!

Yelp
We've been coming to Key West annually for the past 20 years and I can kick myself that I did not find this place sooner. Honestly, I think this might be the best thing that I've ever eaten in Key West and that includes meals at some very high end restaurants. Places like this are why Beard awards are now given out not just to Michelin starred chefs, but to phenomenal taquerias (SF's La Taqueria), and fried chicken meccas (Wille Maes) as well. This simple dishes we ordered - the Curried Chicken Roti and the Curried Goat Dhal Bowl were seasoned beautifully with a complexity of flavors and textures. An ordinary dish made extraordinary. Unlike most other restaurants that prepare goat, they actually cooked the goat with the bones in to extract all of the flavor from the bones but went a step further and took the time and energy to debone the meat for serving. The house made, award winning hot sauces are not to be missed either. The scotch bonnet and spicy tamarind had my tastebuds dancing with delight. I couldn't pack up and take the goat or the chicken back to California, but fortunately, they sell the hot sauce, so I was able to take that back home. We are here in Key West for five more days and I will definitely be coming back here to eat at least one more time before we head out.

Yelp
After being in Key West for a couple of days, we were feeling for a little something different. We googled and found this spot... decided to try as we are Trini's and well ... what better than a doubles to hit the spot? All I have to say is wow! Everything we had was spot on from the doubles to the curry goat and curry chicken ... the dhalpourie was also spot on. Food was made to order and when you order. A must do if you like authentic island food!

Veronica G.

Yelp
Visited while I was in Key West. I was excited to see a Trinidadian restaurant in Key West driving and serving local cuisine. I had the doubles, which is two fried flavored pieces of Joe , accompanied by curry chickpeas, also known as China. Was it the devils? We're good, and interestingly, accompanied by small pieces of apples. I've never had doubles with apples before, so that was for a very interesting surprise overall great service and good food and I would recommend.

Rob B.

Yelp
Had a nice family lunch with the kids. We ordered chicken and goat roti hot and tasty. Staff was very kool and friendly with fast and fresh food. This is what key west has been missing Trini food mixed with a key-west atmosphere. Amiee was extremely helpful and nice.

Erfamian K.

Yelp
We had lunch at Santiago's Bodega and were still hungry so we walked across the street and had a bite here. The jerk chicken sandwich and potato salad were delicious. By the end of the meal, we wished we had come here first. It's a small space with only two tables, but I would still visit again even if there were no seats available. The family that owns and operates Pepper Pot Island Cafe clearly care about their service and product. During our meal, each member of the family greeted us and asked us if we enjoyed the food. The sense we got was that they genuinely cared about our dining experience and treated us like guests in their home. During our visits to Key West, we have dined at various establishments that span classic (Blue Heaven) to newer concepts (Lola's). This restaurant is just incredibly tasty food for the price. We can't wait to come back and try other selections from the menu.

Karen B.

Yelp
The Pepper Pot Island Cafe in Key West made the best food of our trip. The Chicken Curry and Roti were extremely satisfying and comforting. Everything was fresh and I could tell it was made from scratch. I will be craving this food long after I go home. We also tried the pulled pork sandwich and potato salad and they were also delightful. The restaurant is small but adequate. It's a little bit off the beaten path which I don't mind at all but you probably won't run across it by accident. The owners are friendly and respectful. We felt safe.

Amanda L.

Yelp
Great spot for island food just off the touristy area in Key West. Recommended by a friend who is a local, it was excellent and friendly service. It's a small place, just a few tables, they do a lot of takeout. But worth the visit!

James S.

Yelp
Authentic island cuisine made with the freshest ingredients; absolutely delicious! Best hot sauces, teas & desserts. The owners are great!

Brandon A.

Yelp
Great food and service! It is a little off the main strip but worth walking the extra blocks to get something that has homemade taste and variety of flavors.

Jeremy N.

Yelp
This place was absolutely amazing! The owners treated us like long lost family. The food was out of this world. It was such a good experience to have authentic food!

Kimberly V.

Yelp
Extraordinary fresh flavor! Great service. This is a hidden gem just a stones through from the state park.

James K.

Yelp
Excellent homemade food cooked to order. Something for everyone no matter what you're In the mood for. Not fancy, just a no nonsense place to get a good meal. We split the carribean jerk chicken sandwich which was excellent and had the rum raisin pudding for dessert. Yum!

Britney P.

Yelp
If your ever in Key West this is the place for some good caribbean food. The staff is so sweet and welcoming. It is a small family owned business. The owners are from Trinidad We had curry chicken, jerk chicken sandwich (not pictured), Roti (Flat Bread) which is a dough that has been stuffed w/ seasoned ground split peas & the two sauces are Key Lime Habanero and Mild Tamarind Sauce - which is my fav (Sweet & Flavorful).

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
The owners remember me each time I run down for lunch to get off the office- they cook to order serve you like royalty and the food is second to none--- if you don't eat here when in Key West you haven't experienced island living!! Charming delicious and very island dining-

Yelp
Small shack at the end of Petronia in Bahama Village. Looks like nothing. Go inside, though, and you'll get fantastic food from Trinidad. It's all cooked to order, with a great blend of spices. We have a jerk chicken sandwich and a shrimp curry roti. Both were incredible, And a good amount of food. It's all cooked to order as well. Stop by. Go inside even though it doesn't look like much. You won't be disappointed

Josh M.

Yelp
I don't yelp often but, when I do, it's for a good reason. So with that said, THE FOOD HERE IS FREAKING AWESOME. I had goat roti with the hot sauce. Phenomenal. I'm almost at a loss for words when I think about how to describe the food. In today's day and age we are fortunate to have an incredibly large number of cuisines that we can experience in this country and its rare to have something that Is new and different. Pepper pot is type of food that i have not had before and that I can't find in New York or Chicago or in whatever large city in the US but it is here in key west and its wonderful. Do yourself a favor and give it a shot. The spices and flavors are to die for. The food is made with love and it shows. Don't forget the hot sauce. Its the truth.

Claire L.

Yelp
Amazing food, 12/10 recommend the veggie roti and the tamarind tea. Delightfully friendly staff. If you enjoy authentic Caribbean fare, don't miss this place.

nevetS l.

Yelp
Got the jerk chicken sandwich and it was honestly the best jerk I've ever had. Wifey got the roti curry chicken. Amazingly delicious and everything you'd expect it to be and more. Taste so fresh and definitely homemade. Scott's bonnet hot sauce was the shit!! Everyone needs to come and support this place.

Stephanie M.

Yelp
If you're looking for a small place to try Trinidadian food then you NEED to stop here! My husband and I like to walk around and look on Google Maps for anything small foodwise in Key West and Pepper Pot Island Cafe was a place that we wished we had visited sooner. It's a cute family run business and as soon as you walk in you're greeted by a great smell and you know your food is going to be everything. I got a Chicken Roti and oh boy it was so big. But I forced myself to finish it because it was just to good and there was no way I was going to share it with my husband. I will say, I'm not a huge spicy person and I wish I was because they also make their own hot sauce?! My husband's motto is 'The spicier the better' so he had to buy some before we left. He loved it. I'm just sad we only found this place on our last day. I legit tell everyone I know to stop here when they're going to Key West. No clue if any have, but we for sure will be back.

Christian F.

Yelp
Phenomenal little spot!! So glad we discovered this! Great, personable, customer service. INCREDIBLE food of the highest quality and flavor! I got the goat curry roti, and my sister got the chicken curry dal bowl. Both were literally perfect. And the big portion sizes are spot on... I hate it when places give you small portions, but pepper pot gave enough for both of us to have leftovers! Love it.

Andrew L.

Yelp
If you're looking for food that shows pride and love, this is the place to go. It feels like a home cooked meal that anyone would appreciate. Amy and Shane have great customer service and it shows in their cooking. Definitely worth making a trip away from all the noise!

Hillary T.

Yelp
This little spot is worth the going off the main drag for. There's a few seats inside for dine in, or you can take to go. The food is made to order. I tried the chicken roti (amazeballs) and it was easily enough for two meals. Had I known, I would have split one with my mom who ordered the same thing. It tastes just as delicious leftover! The owner was very helpful with the menu options, and made sure we were happy with our food.

Laurie M.

Yelp
Wow!! Delicious!! I had the curried goat roti which was fantastic- flavorful and filling. Definitely get the hot sauce - was really good! The Sorrel drink was refreshing- not too sweet witb hints of cinnamon. My hubby had the curry chicken bowl and loved it just as much! I wish we lived here - would go all the time!

Eddie R.

Yelp
HIDDEN GEM. Had a craving for something else other than what was on the Duval strip. This hit the spot. I had the goat curry bowl and it was delicious. Vibe is small, down-home, easy. Do yourself a favor and try it out.

David H.

Yelp
I love Pepper Pot. It is my go to for authentic Caribbean cuisine. My wife and I have been getting carry out now for years. We love the rotis. Doubles, and dhal bowls. Plus the home made drinks (Sorrel and Tamarind drink) Small and quaint but lovely ambiance and great location in Bahama Village. We like that it's family owned too! Come for lunches and dinners to this tropical island gem!

Cristina M.

Yelp
I was very excited to try the food, but it did not match the description. Flavor was off, meat was overcooked, and it was all very oily and no flavor. maybe they were having an off day but that was my unfortunate experience.

Stacy T.

Yelp
If you looking for something different or you just want true Caribbean flavor, try this place. The roti was tasty, at first taste I thought something was missing from the curry chicken but once I added their hot sauce provided with the meal it made all the difference. When you stopping by pay attention or you will drive past it.

Steven D.

Yelp
Best food I had in all of Florida. One of the best meals I ever had. Owners are phenomenal people and great to chat with.

Becky D.

Yelp
Best food we've had at Key West all week! Yum! This little family delivers delicious food with some amazing hospitality! Boy can they cook! A must for tourist to visit for a yummy Caribbean bite!

Donna S.

Yelp
if you want a taste of the islands right in Key West, run down to this place The rotis are ginormous, enough for 2 people to share. Goat, chicken , pork, it's all good. and get a tamarind tea to wash it down.

Jason B.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place. Authentic fresh food. Ox tail stew was tender and flavorful. The owners work there and made us feel right at home. Currently no indoor seating but there are several benches, curbs and a park nearby to enjoy your takeout. This was well worth the walk.

Suzi A.

Yelp
Delicious lunch! We had the curried chicken roti. Lots of other good stuff on the menu.

Scot H.

Yelp
I am no expert but I really liked the curry chicken and potato salad. I have to try everything there now. And a super helpful staff for my first time.

Shawn R.

Yelp
I've been to Trinidad many times, this is the real deal. The roti brought me back to my time on island. Even the passion fruit salad dressing was incredibly balanced and flavorful. Trinidad has a reputation for having the best food in the Caribbean, Pepper Pots food is soulful, fresh and cooked with love. Thank you, what a treat.

Tess K.

Yelp
If your looking for authentic Roti this is your place. The food is delicious. I highly recommend you make this part of your Key West food experience.

Robert B.

Yelp
Stopped by after seeing write up in Keys Weekly. A lot of options and will be back to try out more of the menu. We got the Roti and pork sandwich both of which where good, got mild and will definitely step it up next time. Great portion sizes and loved the potato salad, very tasty and fresh tasting. Going to make this a weekly stop. They have two small tables inside, bike parking right across the street and can always grab a beer across the street while you wait. Super friendly people!!!!!!

Juan C.

Yelp
Cool little spot for Trinidadian food. The Doubles were great! The service was good too - fast and friendly.

Yulia F.

Yelp
A hidden gem! If you are into beachfront, loud, divey places then this is not for you. But if what you want is a charming small place with a seriously delicious Caribbean food, it is definitely worth venturing away from the beaten path.

michelle r.

Yelp
Delicious fresh hand made food. Yummy salad and jerk shrimp and chicken, friendly family run place

Makenzie D.

Yelp
Such a great place! We were close to Fort Taylor park for the sunset and looking for something other than seafood so we found this spot on Yelp. We got the chicken roti and geera pork sandwich. Both were huge portions and so good! We did takeout and it was pretty fast. The staff were also very friendly.

Robert P.

Yelp
Excellent, fresh food made to order. Wonderful owners, too. You can't go wrong if you like traditional island food.

Lynelle F.

Yelp
Wonderful family-run restaurant with delicious, prepared with care food. The goat and chicken curry roti were fantastic. Be sure to try the sorrel drink. Amy, Shane and Nalani we great to chat with as well.

Michele S.

Yelp
This place made us so happy. I had the chicken curry Dahl bowl and my husband had the chicken curry roti with scotch bonnet hot sauce on the side. It brought us back to our trips to the Grenadines. So authentic. We are local and will be back! Love it!

Kelli T.

Yelp
I'm so happy we came across Pepper Pot Island Café on a walk around Key West. It was easily the best meal we had the entire trip. The service was incredible and the family who owns it is so sweet. I've been craving the Roti and Fishcake sandwich (special of the day) since we left. The sauces alone are worth going for. I can't wait to eat here again on my next visit.

Susan G.

Yelp
I had been walking by this little place in Bahama Village for weeks on my morning walks around Key West and the menu sounded delicious and i made a mental note to try it. We found a 1 hour wait for lunch today at the "must go to" restaurant up the street so decided to eat here instead and we're so glad we did! The food is fresh and delicious. We both ordered Roti(homemade wrap filled with a potato and chick pea curry) I added chicken to mine and my husband added goat to his. They make the roti to order so it took a few minutes but it is well worth it. I had it with hot sauce on the side and it was spicy vinegary goodness!!! Next time I'll just tell them to add it in. I had sorrel juice and my husband had tamarind iced tea. Both made there and refreshing and tasty. This is a small business and the owners make everything, cook and serve. Only two tables inside so mostly takeout but we were lucky to snag a table and eat there. Service was prompt and friendly. I can't wait to go back and try a few more dishes. Highly recommend!!!
