Peppo's Great Sub Sandwiches

The food isnt amazing, but still pretty good. Id come here a lot more often for my work lunch break but the reality is that they are just too expensive for the amount of meat they put on their sandwiches. I understand cutting costs but consumer value is important. So if you are going to charge a little extra, give the customer a more filling sandwich. There is one, maybe two thinly sliced layers of meat. This wasn't a one off either as I've eaten here several times. It is a deliberate decision by the owners. So because of this I get Mexican food more often because its less expensive and I feel I am getting a better value. If they put more meat and not just focused on the "guts" I would eat here every week, maybe more than once.

12/4/25 11am Service with a smile the cashier was a sweetheart. Ordered an 11” pastrami with Swiss toasted, light mayo regular guts on the side and a 7” pastrami Monterey Jack toasted everything extra mayo and a cream of chicken wild rice soup. My hubby was so happy with his sandwich he wanted to go back to order the same again for dinner but they were closed. I loved my sandwich it was perfect. The soup was seriously amazing with a warm bread roll to compliment it. Such comfort food! They had customers after customers coming in grabbing the food quite quickly and out the door with such a lovely friendly experience. Will be back!!!!

I stopped in randomly to find this hidden gem. I got the # 4 and was instantly blown away on how amazing it was. The 7" was more then enough for a quick snack, with how loaded the sandwich is. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick bite to eat.

Had the #4. Flavors were fantastic and the Turrano bread on point but can't give it five stars as there was very little meat. Load it up and it's five stars all day!

Ordered a #4 and it was really good. The "guts" had a decent light garlic vinegarette flavor. Only thing I'd change would be to try double meat next time. Service was perfect, fast and friendly. Quality ingredients also. Definitely coming back to try all the other sandwiches! So good!

Been coming here since 1976. We love this place. The owner is awesome! I was hoping in the future that they might try to bring the Peppos truck to our town in Watseka Illinois. We only get it now when we're in Palos. The sandwiches are out of this world yummy!!!

This place is always a treat. I don’t get south as often as I like but every time I do this is my lunch spot. The staff has always been friendly and attentive. The place is clean and the mini super sub is outstanding. Some reviews complain about price, it’s as average as any other place nowadays. I can easily spend the same at a chain restaurant and not be nearly as satisfied. Cheers Peppo’s! I’d love to shake the owners hand one day. And thank you sir for your service.

Walked in and greeted by one of the employees who promptly took my order and said the person on the phone taking orders would ring me up when she was off the phone. The employee who took my order then went into the back and started making food. I ordered the pepperoni with garlic guts and had it toasted. There was a LOT of the guts on the sandwich, which is served open face almost, and had a very good garlic flavor to it. The sandwich meat was a decent amount and the toasted bread was still chewy but had a good toasted crunch to it. Sometimes you get a toasted sandwich from somewhere and they can over do it making the bread hard but not here. I was also getting one to go for my wife and the employee said they'd wait before making it so when I was finished eating there, the to go sandwich would still be fresh. Very happy with the meal and service. Definitely plan on stopping back in sometime to try something else off the menu.

First time here and I must say that I really liked it the pasta salad was really good but the sandwich had to much dressing and it made the bread saggy you should only put a splash of dressing and not soak it where the bread comes out saggy, well besides that I will be returning to try something different and serve was great Also a little pricey but worth every penny

After so many years past, I still enjoy the subs here and the guts are still the best ever where they serve every sandwich with a fork. I literally ate every sandwich combination here. Other than the price going up the quality is top-notch. The interior is clean and they do disinfect after each customer leaves the booth due to these Corvid times. I recommend Peppo's to all who enjoy a classic sub.

I must be the LAST PERSON in Chicago to have discovered this gem!! This is what a sub should be!!! Soft yummy bread... tangy toppings and fresh meat!! Combine that with a very friendly staff that serves real life happy meals with a smile and you just can't beat it!!

There are sandwiches and there is Peppos. Let's talk ambiance of this original place of delicious architecture. Upon entering this spacious restaurant that can seat parties of over 30 people comfortably (I only say this because I wish I had 30 friends and lunching alone makes the space seem even more grand). Although the space is pretty huge for a deli spot, the staff and owner makes everything feel so cozy and warm. The decor is simple but branded smart with definition of proud craftsmanship when it comes to deep roots of family created recipes that leave you salivating for GUTS!!! GUTS...you have to have it to not request it on your sandwich. No way can you deny the GUTS! WHO THE HECK COMES TO PEPPOS AND deny GUTS? the lady ahead of me in line with an Afro so big I couldn't see the menu. Not that I needed to...I want pastrami, mustard, Swiss and GUTS...ALWAYS! I wanted to shout to the lady...hey! You have to get the GUTS...otherwise...go to Arby's up the street with those bland a$# taste buds... Since being loud in public is frowned upon...I kept it to myself. PEPPOS is my fave place for gutsy reasons...tell the owner...60465 Clarissa said it for a small discount on pop and chips....

Came here Saturday at 3:53 PM. I ordered the Windy City cheesesteak 11 inch sub. Online ordering had it for $12.95 plus tax which was exactly $13.85 and the menu board inside the restaurant also had the exact same price. Somehow I was charged $17.58. Then when I asked the girl why , she told me the Windy City is double price and the most expensive sub they have. Well that's clearly not true, based on your online ordering and also your menu board. I did not get any extra toppings. So why was I overcharged $3.73. Did she leave herself a tip, put some other stuff on my receipt? Who really knows. Then when I actually got the sub it was terrible. It was NOT Philly steak at all, it was literally Italian beef meat. My family was disappointed. Italian beef meat and Philly steak is not the same thing. I did complain to the restaurant, it's been almost 2 days so no response as of yet.

Arrived late on a Saturday, 1/2 hour before closing. (Not an issue) First time here. Ordered a pastrami and salami sandwich toasted. Included the garlic "guts". Not your traditional Sub sandwich. But the new flavor variety was pleasant and a nice change. The "guts", a medley of diced pickle, onion, garlic, and tomato spooned atop of the sandwich as a garnish. Area was very clean, great parking and friendly staff. Soda fountain Dr Pepper had the right carbonation / ice - syrup balance. We will return.

Subs were always tasty and fresh. Nice selection of subs or create your own. French bread always fresh too. Pasta salad was tasty

Great place for lunch! Friendly staff, so many options! Love coming here to try the different sandwiches. You also gotta make sure to throw in "The Guts" and toast your sub! Try the sandwiches in different combinations, you'll love them all! Did I mention their staff is friendly and patient?! Two thumbs up every time!

The best sandwich I've ever eaten at any location across the United States. I travel 40 weeks out of the year and I've never had a sandwich as good as this one. Not only do you get great quality ingredients with the staff is awesome including seeing the owner making sandwiches back there. They also have a great place to sit and enjoy your lunch. I highly recommend if you're anywhere near this location to stop in and try one of their sandwiches.

I had the cheesesteak sandwich. It was really filling and delicious. I'll be back. Service was really good and fast.

This place is great. I wanted to try their new item: cheesesteak. Although the ingredients are all good quality the sub itself was not what I expected. Cheesesteak's taste and look resembles Italian beef sandwich. Beef was in thicker slices and not chopped up into small bits, green peppers had somewhat large pieces too. Sandwich comes with guts so if you want more of a classic cheesesteak don't order everything on it.

Peppo's is the OG!!! My favorite spot. Everyone is always so friendly. The food is always fresh, always consistent. My go to always. Highly recommend. They are the local staple!!!!

Been going here for 15 years. I have always enjoyed eating there. The sandwiches are great, and of course, I have a favorite. Today my friend and I stopped in to eat. I have just one question. Why subject your customers to music so loud we couldn't hear each other. And country hillbilly on top of it. Yuck. Give peace and quiet a chance. P.S. get some recycling containers for the glass/plastic bottles. Also, this place is not cheap.

So I went to Palos on an adventure with my best friend to just get some polish food. At least that is what I thought. But she insisted on going to lunch somewhere in the area. We both looked on our phones and looked at some pics. She came up with Peppo's. I didn't want to argue so I drove us there. I did not think I was going to like Peppo's for one reason only: I don't like a lot of "stuff" (referring to the guts) on my sandwich. But I said "hey, it is just a sandwich, just go ahead and eat the thing and go home." Boy, was I wrong. I got the 7 inch Italiano Due with garlic guts, toasted. Man, that is one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Garlic guts and an Italian sub is the way to go. Very tasty. Just the combo of the two I couldn't get enough of. The guts were not over powering. The garlic guts takes the sandwich to a whole other level! (I'm a nut for garlic. That is why I am excited while writing this review :-) The sandwich was not sloppy. Most important: soft, tasty bread. You can purchase "guts" separately if you like. Peppo's, thank you for being open during the pandemic! I HAVE to go back this summer, for real, for real!

The New Yorker toasted was absolutely amazing! I love a good sub sandwich and this one was definitely done right. Also tried their pasta salad and it was amazing as well. The woman at the counter was super nice and we got our order right away.

Really good sandwiches for years They use the right bread. The kind that's soft but chewy. Not the kind you eat yhe meat out of and leave as much as you can (I am looking at you subway) Eat your guts!

One of the best subs I've had in the area! So much to choose from jalapeno guts and garlic guys is a must!! Cool place to sit down and eat too .

Peppo's has been slipping as the last 2 times I've gone there, the sandwiches were skimpier and not as tasty as they once were. Since I've been a Peppo's patron since the 70's I was really disappointed, they were always so good previously. Oh well, maybe things will improve, but right now I am in no big hurry to rush back there.

Peppo actually has really good subs and they are famous for the "guts" Which is a Relish type of salsa that comes in I think regular garlic and jalapeño I like regular Nice Place to get hot soup from as well ... I thought they were pricey , I liked that they were a family small business Definitely a must try I would repeat

Whenever I have occasion to travel to south side of Cook County, I stop here for a sandwich. The subs are tasty because the owner has perfected a topping of chopped onions, tomatoes, pickles and other ingredients that is referred to as "guts" which really exemplifies the taste of the subs and the hot dogs. If you've never tried the food here, stop by at least once and give it a shot. Really good tasting food. Highly recommended!

I have been in here before a few times but am not a regular. The sandwich was good but the price wasn't. Our order was 2 of the 7 in. Philly cheese steaks, 2 small Italian pasta salad (about $2 each) 1 regular drink. Bill was almost $34. They ask if we wanted a receipt. I am glad we got one & looked at the price. Almost $17 a person with 1 drink. The board is not clear on pricing. I thought my Sandwich was 10.49 it was 11.99. Could of had a better quality meal in a sit down restaurant. Also, not very much meat on sandwich. Just a warning if you order, someone else posted the same situation on pricing.

So, I love everything they have going on here except - the bread is so chewy - that all the fillings and guts fall out! The bread on it's own is fresh and good - but with toppings.....I have never made such a mess as I do when trying to eat a Turkey Sub with Guts from Peppos. More than half of the sandwich gets squished out of the bread while eating.

Several visits throughout the many years and it seems to get better each visit! Love visiting Palos Hills just for the amazing sandwiches and pleasant smiles and laughs. Keep up the good work Peppo's! Tre' White :)

I order a 7 inch sub with everything got home it all it has is Turkey and Cheese a dry ass sub .

Hadn't been to Peppo's in years, not much has changed. Stick with the subs, the more meat the better to stand up to the crazy diced toppings. If you are thinking about their Italian Beef do yourself a favor and just poor salt over your grandfathers shoe and lick it. Seriously don't get the beef not only is the meat tough, flavorless and salty as hell, the hot peppers are sport peppers and that is pure blasphemy. Drinks? Pepsi in a plastic bottle? Gross, but you'll need something to wash the salt down. Did I mention don't get the beef? Subs are good

This is my absolute favorite place for subs. I moved to Southweb Illinois, but every time I come home this is seriously always my first stop, before I even see my mother. I wish you guys were a franchise and could have multiple locations. I would recommend a peppos sub to anybody! So delicious & full of flavor, bread is excellent.

The sandwiches are outstanding amazing flavor. I got the Italian due with "guts". The "guts" are a nice blend of tomatoes pickles peppers onions garlic and oil. All in all great local veteran own shop will visit again.

Best sub sandwich ever! The big helping of "guts" really tops it off, and the bread is crunchy, crispy , and delicious! It's also the only place I have found that has Green River soda in bottles and six-packs. Don't miss this one!

Someone recommended this place for me, so I decided to come here for lunch. I had it picked up. I ordered an American cheese, pastrami, and salami sandwich with nothing else. I picked it up then. Service was friendly. When I opened, I had a smell of something that wasn't supposed to be in there. There was lettuce and mustard that I didn't order. Also, I tried mustard before, and I didn't like it. I tried to brush them off, but the mustard didn't come off good. Well, it was our first time anyways. The sandwich was cold and the bread was a little wet. I took a bite, and I tasted mostly the mustard. The mustard was not good. The rest was okay. I felt disgusted. It was our first time, and it wasn't good. The sandwich wasn't good, and I had my order with stuff I didn't order. I will just have to make sandwiches at home then.

The sandwiches are good but I go for the guts! I love eating the guts with tortilla chips! Yum.

I have been ordering subs from Peppo's for at least 35 years, which tells you how good they are to last that long as a sub shop. The uniqueness of their sandwich is the guts. It does not matter which sandwich you order because once those guts are placed in the middle the sandwich is transformed into a work of art. Until you have one, you have no idea what you're missing. Other shops don't compare!

Extra Guts please! Peppos never disappoints. Im a huge Pastrami and Swiss guy and theirs is one of the best I've had. Staff is friendly and the place is always clean.

Gotta have them guts! Very happy to have discovered this place. Suprised their sandwich relish concept has not taken off accross the City! Good on them for having something original and standing out in sea of heavy hittng sandwich shops throughout Chocagoland!

Visiting from San Diego, absolutely love this place! Definitely will be back. The guts set it apart from other places. I love how they evenly distribute each topping. I get a bite of everything in each bite. The workers here are super friendly and it's a family atmosphere. It was my first time here, was craving a sandwich, Peppo's did not disappoint. There are many options and you can also create your own.
