Disappointing Experience Despite a Promising Start When I first walked into Pepp's Pizzeria, I was impressed by the welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. It felt like the kind of place you'd want to come back to. Unfortunately, the service experience that followed was incredibly disappointing. I placed an order for three pizzas and was told they’d be ready in an hour. When I returned, I was informed that my order had been mistakenly given to someone else with the same first name. The staff apologized and said they would remake the pizzas and reimburse me, but it would take another hour. After waiting again and returning, I was told that while my meal had been refunded, they were now unable to make my pizzas at all and that I’d have to come back another time. Frustrated, I sat in my car and watched other customers walk in and place orders without issue. When I went back in to ask why others could order but I couldn’t, I was told I could place my order again—but only if I waited yet another hour. They offered a discount, but by that point, the experience had already soured. This visit was a major letdown. I understand that mistakes happen, but the lack of follow-through and inconsistent communication made it worse. I hope they improve their order management and customer service in the future. Update: the pizza was really good. They made it right. Since then, we’ve been back two more times. And my kids have absolutely loved the pizza. I will do another update about the customer service and my experience at this time. It was more positive.

We love pizza so when my son asked to try Pepps for his birthday I was excited to try a place we haven't been. They don't take delivery orders on Fridays so I was told I had to pick it up. Fine, but when I asked to schedule the pizza for a couple hours out they told me they couldn't do that either. I was told it would be ready within 20 minutes of placing the order. I waited until I was ready for the pizza, ordered, and got a message that it was going to be ready in 45 minutes to an hour. Went and got the pizza, got home with it and one of the pizzas was really burnt. My camera actually makes it look better than was. Since this was a new place for us, I probably should have looked at the pizza before I took it. That's my mistake. The pizza itself was okay. The pepperoni on the pizza is super salty! The yellow peppers were dry and chewy. Also, I don't know what they do to their ranch, but I don't recommend it! I paid for three extra ranch cups on top of the one they give you and it was absolutely horrible! It tasted like some type of watered down celery dip. Not even exaggerating. We ended up throwing it away. It wasn't the worst pizza we've had but definitely not the best. Definitely not as good as Dough Co. or even Casey's. I'm giving it 3/5 because the the cheesy bread was amazing, the restaurant is small but clean, and the kid who handed me my order was very polite.

Pre-ordered a large pepperoni pizza about 10 minutes before we got there. Arrived and told them we were there. Got seated. It was probably close to 75° inside the resteraunt, so not that great of an atmosphere. Decided to add a 2nd order of only cheese bread. Waited about 10 minutes before the pizza arrived. It was really good and had a great crust. Then we waited for the cheese bread. Disappointed in the cheese toppings as they didn't cover all pieces. Also, the marinara came out refrigerator cold. No thanks!

Ordered pizza to go but decided to sit down and eat right on the spot bc it smelled too good to wait for home! The crust, cheese and ranch were a fantastic combination with the crunchy dill pickles. Can’t wait to go back to try all the other pies

First experience a few weeks ago was great. Crispy delicious crust and toppings and good friendly service. This time around not so much. Crust is white, soft (not crispy whatsoever), and when I arrived there were several staff members just horsing around putting cooked slices with bare hands in the oven which led me to believe cleanliness was not a priority. Especially since there was a handprint of flour on someone's back, telling me people are touching each other while handling food and probably not washing their hands when needed. May never return. Also, lovely black marks on my pizza that look like burnt food from pizza trays but not sure. Nice young lady held the door for me as I walked out though which was very nice. P.S. I use to work at a pizza place for 4 years with high volume and consistent high scores from state health inspectors so don't try making excuses except saying you will do better for your customers.

If there's anything my friends know about me it's that I'm an absolute glutton for pizza and pepps, at least to me, is some of the absolute best you can get in and around Des Moines at the time of writing. Their crust is just to die for and their toppings are fresh. I'm especially fond of their White Pie which isn't the most popular choice but honestly I've tried a lot now and I haven't yet had one that I didn't like or found underwhelming. Do note they don't have seating, they're take out only as their restaurant is small. They also tightly control the number of pizzas they make each day to keep their excellent quality so high so be sure to place your order early before they run out or stop by for lunch to purchase some by the slice while available. I'd love to see them include calorie information on their menu or website in the future. It's handy for people on a more tightly controlled diet but besides that I really have nothing bad to say. I will be back because they really are just that good.

Stopped in to try Pepp’s one afternoon. I was served right away but I was the only one in the store. It was early afternoon so kind of expected it. The pizza was ready in like 15 minutes or so. It was so fast and hot! A unique pizza. It’s made with ingredients put on upside down, kind a different. It still tastes good. Will definitely have to go back and try the other types of pizza they have!

We haven’t had a pickle pizza since the Iowa State Fair last year. We discovered Pepp’s Pizzeria is now in Urbandale and ordered the pickle pizza and a side salad. Both the pizza and the salad were delicious. We will definitely be ordering more pizza from here.

Pepp's has relocated from Grimes to Urbandale! Before I get into the pizza I want to give a shout out to the staff here... After I left work I headed to Pepp's and from the minute I walked in the door... Wow! Friendly, personable, willing to indulge me as I asked multiple questions. A really great group of people! I've wanted to try Pepp's since they opened in Grimes, but my gf is a creature of habit and "upside down" pizza wasn't something that made her short list... Upside down is cheese first, then sauce, and lastly any other toppings. An homage to classic New York pizza. And it just wasn't something I wanted to drive from the old part of Clive out to Grimes for and then sit and eat in my car. The new location has dine in seating available! Also with the space they've added an additional oven! Pepp's opened about a year ago in Grimes, closed for about two weeks recently, and has now reopened in Urbandale. Pepp's offers pizza by the slice, the whole pie, salads, cheese bread, and cinnamon bread. As of today five different sandwiches for lunch along with their personal pizzas too. I wanted to try a couple of different slices. Pepp's Pie was my first choice and I asked for a recommendation on the second slice. Almost in unison multiple voices said White Pie. Here is how each is described on their web site. Pepp's Pie: Mozzarella, parmesan, pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions, banana peppers, and tomato sauce. White Pie: Alfredo base, mozzarella, parmesan, ricotta, black pepper, red pepper, and honey. The Pepp's Pie was good. Served hot. I really liked the tomato sauce. Fresh ingredients. Excellent flavor! The White Pie though... That's a sleeper. I was hesitant. It's not something that is normally in my wheelhouse. It was fantastic! Probably the closest I get to this is the mix of red and alfredo sauce on the Spicy Italian at Uptown Food and Beverage in Ankeny. The richness of the cheese. The savory alfredo sauce. The faint sweetness of the honey. Just magical! For slices/dine-in you can order and pay at the front counter. Take a seat. They bring your food to you. Trash receptacles are available for you to bus your table when you're done. Take-out ordering is available online and via phone. Located in a strip on the West side of 86th just North of the Walgreens there is plenty of parking. They're still working on the decor. Think a sports motif. For seating you're looking at two booths, three low top tables and chairs, and a high top as options. I hear they may eventually be offering beer...but for right now Coke fountain drink products. Pricing was very reasonable. Two large slices and a drink for just under $13. For a quick lunch one slice would probably be good for most people. A great first visit! Now that they are just down 86th from me I know I'll be going back! Got to try that Vodka Roni next... If I still can't talk Heather into going it will either be me solo again.... Or with a couple of my kids in tow! A stellar team and a quality product. Check them out and try that White Pie! High points for Pepp's: Wood fired pizza with that characteristic crust, fresh toppings, creative combinations. Low points: The toppings on the pizzas with lots of bulk (large amount of toppings) were mostly in the middle of the pie...or had fallen in...but it made picking up the pieces quite messy as they'd fall off. Was also confused because they advertised an upside down pizza, but all of the pizzas we got were "normal" with the sauce on the bottom and the cheese on top and then the toppings on top of that. (Shrug) Our group tried a wide variety of pizzas, but the favorite was the white pizza with the hot honey on it. It really was tasty. Sometimes white pizzas don't have enough cheese or sauce on them and end up being kind of plain, but this one was tops!

We will definitely be going to Pepp's Pizzeria. We stopped in last night not realizing they were closed. So the young man behind the counter gave us a pizza they had made 2 hours earlier that was never picked up. It was delicious! He zipped it back in the oven for a few minutes to take the chill off. And oddly enough, it was the pizza I would have ordered for a slice. Fun atmosphere. A work in progress. Friendly staff and excellent pizza. We are looking forward to our next visit. It's where the old Subway used to be on 86th Street just north of Meredith.

The pizza is fantastic! BUT, the business is unusual in that you have to order by reservation and when they run out, that's it! The last 2 evenings they were closed by 7:30 pm after opening at 11am. Seems like either inexperience in preparation or they simply don't want to provide service any longer than than necessary. Delicious pizza, when you can get an order filled. Either go all in or close the doors for good! Don't tease your customers!

Pepps is awesome! Wish I would have tried it sooner. Great crust and sauce. I have only had the cheese pizza and cheese sticks but plan on trying different pizzas soon. I will say I sure wish they had a margarita pizza that would complete checklist for best pizza in Des Moines. Also maybe order the pizza for after 6 on weekends because I did have to wait about 10 minutes after my pickup time but it's no worries.

I'm always looking for new places & this one caught my eye today. I'd love to give this place a 5 star but I was disappointed in the lack of flavor. I'm not saying it was bad. I just felt the garlic sticks didn't have flavor by themselves or even with the vodka sauce. Same goes for the pizza just not much flavor. I'm definitely going to be going back. Service was great they greeted me once I walked in the door and my food was ready on time. Did an order online and had text messages keeping me in the loop. This place is small but very clean and nice environment. I'm looking forward to giving this place another shot and trying something different. The food was good just lacked in flavor.

Only came to Pepps to try the pickle pizza! It was delicious! The staff were friendly. The pizza was ready in 10 minutes. I wish they had a dining room. However, we took our pizza to a park near by and had a nice picnic.

Good zaaas if your lucky enough to get one definitely one of the better pizza places around the state of Iowa if your around do your self a favor and get yourself some!

So finally decided to order pizzas to go tonight, why didn't I do this sooner?! The Weekly special, which should be on the regular menu ;), was amazing! Even get taco sauce and sour cream packets included. Also had the All meat, little greasy in the center, but once you hit that crust, drool, it's all good! My kid had the cheese pizza, tried it, may be the best cheese pizza I've ever had. He also loved the garlic bread sticks, even though they are much smaller than the picture shows on the website. We will def be back, nice to have a place like this local. So, let's keep them going!

First time getting pizza here, for lunch today. Wowie what a great pizza! The crust makes or breaks a pizza and this pizza crust is nicely crispy and browned perfectly, with lots of air pockets. Just the right amount of toppings, cheese and sauce, preventing the crust from becoming soggy. Overall this pizza was an excellent pizza.

Super awesome crust. A little bit odd how they built the pizza crust then cheese then sauce etc. This is one of my favorite crusts ever! Good customer service and a clean and tidy interior.

I've had their pizza on several ccasions and it's always delicious! The staff is super nice and the place is clean, which is always a nice added touch. My favorite pizza so far is the White pie, I love the honey drizzle they put on it. Oh, also the Taco pizza might just be the best I've ever had. It's takeout only & you have to order online. But the pizza is done at the exact time slot you choose. Which is nice! Highly recommend!

Best pizza in Grimes hands down. Service is excellent. You can't get a better pizza within a 15 miles radius.

Very good! Can't imagine you'd go wrong with anything you order from here. They had our pizza ready right at pick up time & we liked the ease of ordering ahead. It's a must try!!
