Peregrine Espresso

Wonderful place near the mall. Right off the metro. Super friendly staff and best coffee I’ve had in DC so far. The retro music was loud enough to block out others conversations and was a great vibe. I would definitely come here every time I’m in the area.

Very friendly and thoughtful staff! They never get frustrated or stressed even the busy crazy weekend on Eastern Market crowds with off the door lined customers. Of course they serve one of the very best coffee beans from Small Planet roaster and they use glass bottled milk and the pastries from Pluma which is again the best bakery in DC. Everything about this cafe is a such lovely experience! Thank you!

Coffee was really good! The shop is small but it was indoor and outdoor. The staff were kind. The music was a bit too loud for my liking.

Great espresso and I was a regular but there’s a couple staff who are very miserable and bitter. I don’t like my first drink of the day to be made by miserable people who clearly do not like their customers or their job. I don’t like my drink being made by people who I can feel hate their job. Go get another job, don’t take it out on your customers. An optimistic mind filled with compassion in the heart goes a very long way to make an espresso taste good. I won’t be going back despite how convenient this place is for me.

I’m rather upset that I have to write this review. My partner and I were seeking a good cup of espresso and this location was highly recommended to us by our friends (we’re not from DC, so we followed their advice) in the area. As soon as we went in the staff gave us looks as if we were bothering them and annoyed that they had customers. Additionally when asked “is this order for here or to go?” I asked my partner what he wanted to do and the cashier scoffed rather loudly. I then over heard her and her coworker discussing us and I quote “oh they don’t know what they want to do.” This whole experience left a horrible taste in my mouth and utterly ruined my first and most certainly last visit to Peregrine Espresso.

Great little branch of this awesome coffee place. Friendly service. Excellent foam art. 😊 Not tons of room but more than enough adequate, especially for grabbing a coffee beverage to go.

One of the better coffee shops in DC! I get a nitro here almost daily and I'm never disappointed. Great staff , great prices , and great atmosphere. Outside seating is also available. Great alternative to the corporate coffee establishments.

I stopped by recently to Peregrine Espresso and scored a spot to sit to get some work done. They were busy and crowed as usual. The ambulance was chill with music playing to drown out conversations. Service was fast and friendly. I'll definitely return.

Cute cozy little coffee shop with high quality coffee and espresso! I like how they have different drip options to select from. I got a hot mocha which was really good! Also love that you can request real coffee mugs if you're going to eat there. Cute little patio in front as well. Staff were friendly and line went fast. They were out of baked goods by the the time I got there, so if you want some make sure to go earlier.

This shop was very busy in the morning. It was quite crowded when we arrived and also when we left. It could be difficult finding a table during peak busy hours. It's a great place to grab a coffee and catch up with a friend. The food and drinks were decent. Nothing to go out of your way to try, just a good local neighborhood coffee shop. There is seating available inside and outside the shop.

No grins after Peregrine. I was a little disappointed by this coffee shop! We stopped in on a Saturday morning and it was busy. They had a handful of chairs and tables to sit in but they were all in use, so wouldn't count on this place for a quiet working place or reading. In terms of the coffee, I'm not sure if this is inflation but it was pricey... A small americano was $4.70! The espresso itself was alrighty, a tad acidic but I liked that they included oat milk on the bar. I also tried the lemon poppyseed loaf and it was just ok- minimal lemon flavor but was nice and soft. Overall, the price was not right on this one. I think there are a lot of options nearby and I'd check out one of those before going back.

This is not a place where I would work out of or meet up with a friend because it's just too small and compact. I would come back for a quick coffee run though! It was a great spot for an in and out 10 minute stop for a latte run.

Finally got to try Peregrine today and absolutely loved it! I ordered the iced vanilla latte and the espresso:milk ratio was perfect. The boldness of the espresso paired perfectly with the creaminess of the milk, and the vanilla syrup added the perfect subtle level of sweetness. The interior is quite small but very cozy -- it has that local small coffee shop vibe, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. They have a couple tables and chairs outside for additional seating, which is where we sat and luckily it was the perfect autumn day today. Looking forward to trying their Union Market location next!

Peregrine is a lovely, simplistic coffee shop in Eastern Market! The store is on the smaller side with seating all around - great to meet up with friends, do some reading, or grab a quick coffee when in a hurry. I popped in on a Saturday afternoon and enjoyed an iced Americano with vanilla. The coffee was smooth and perfectly sweetened! The service was very quick despite the store being packed. Appreciated the lively atmosphere! This is the perfect spot when in need of well-crafted coffee :)

Solid spot for coffee. Not a ton of indoor seating and it's always packed. They make your coffee super fast and have a huge selection of teas as well. They offer oat milk but not almond or soy that I saw. I got an iced vanilla latte and it was delicious.

Good spot for a quick coffee run. i had the maple latte which was delicious and very carefully made. Staff and service was great. There have assorted pastries as well that looked good but i didn't get a chance to try. Location is small but people were sitting and enjoying themselves.

Make you find the entrance on 7th St. Need a coffee after checking our the Eastern Market. The latte is well done! The place is a bit chaotic but as expected. Service is fine for busy shop. The decor inside is ok but outdoor seating is fantastic.

Great little shop about 3/4 miles from the Capitol building. Seems like a small indie shop which I always enjoy! The barista was awesome and recommended their Iced Arboretum, which is a blend of different beans flash brewed. I also got a strawberry scone to go with it. Perfectly sweetened and really good! Highly recommend this place!

Pretty crowded on Saturday afternoons, but that's to be expected. There were several tables to sit at and fortunately, it didn't take me too long to find something. They get their beans from Small Planes (one of my favorite DC coffee roasters) and their Honduras pour over (for 5.00) was smooth and enjoyable. I also got a chocolate croissant (for 6.00) to pair with it which was quite tasty. Overall, solid coffee and pastries here and the atmosphere was lively. Also, Capitol Hill is a great neighborhood to visit and enjoy a snack/coffee break!

Came here after a haircut nearby. The person up front was really welcoming and answered my questions about the difference between a macchiato, a latte, and a cappuccino. Since they do things "traditionally" don't expect a Starbucks caramel macchiato here -- they're meant to be tiny shots of coffee! Since I wanted something sweet but not too sweet, I opted for the latte and the barista recommended cold. The add on of vanilla and honey made it a bit more price point wise, but overall, fast and good service and can say the latte is high quality. Even the whole milk they use is A2 milk which is more digestible than conventional milk. Lots of seating inside and outside. Unfortunately since it's a nice warm day all the seats outside have been taken :,) Indoors have plugs though for your laptop. Overall, I recommend this spot as a work spot -- great space and great coffee!

This is a favorite on eastern market, because we dont have many coffee shops in the area. The coffee is very good as well as their tea options. My only negative is, it's pricier than other shops and because their closest competitors are chain shops, they have a long line most weekends.

Beware hidden fees! My family and were are semi-regulars until today. After ordering everything for our family, I saw the subtotal and then when the cashier hit the button to check out it jumped so I texted myself the receipt. I never thought to look before. Despite that we only purchased food & beverages, we were charged an additional retail tax (did not buy any retail items). Then we were charged a 10% service fee (?!) on top of that subtotal. And then of course I tipped on top of that amount. Didn't see this till we got home and I tried to call the shop to ask what this was. Phone calls go directly to voicemail, which is full so I couldn't even leave a voicemessage. Like a lot of DC residents, I lost my job in the DOGE fiasco and as dumb as it sounds, coffee is my family's #1 treat. We don't go on vacation or shopping for fun, we don't eat out or go to the movies or concerts. So yeah, these weird hidden fees with no explanation and no way to ask about it short of physically going all the way back to the shop and asking in front of everyone... pissed me off. Peregrine's coffee is good, but the coffee at La Colombe in REI is better and they don't have hidden fees. Bread & Wine at Lincoln Park is also good, much cheaper, and they have a better loyalty program.

I came here since lots of people recommended it online but was a little disappointed by the nitro cold brew (they only serve it at the Eastern Market location) that I ordered. My girlfriend got the mocha and it was much better in my opinion. The cold brew was just average to me, although very caffeinated if that's something you're looking for. I'm relatively caffeine sensitive but this cold brew had my heart racing after only a couple sips. The store had both indoor and outdoor seating which was nice. Unfortunately they took a while to come out with our to-go mocha order and we were stuck standing in a crowded space right in front of the lid station, waiting for our order to be called with a bunch of other waiting customers.

Needed a pick me up and had a traditional macchiato! High quality coffee and really nice staff. It's pretty busy especially on a Sunday afternoon but can still find a spot.

Whether you're having a Scotch, a steak, a flight, or a cup of coffee, you need to make a financial decision concerning how much cash you want to put into this cut of beef, seat on a plane, or cup of coffee. The choice is never a consistent one depending on where you are or what you're doing at that exact moment. When it comes to coffee, is it a freeze/dried scoop and tepid water out of the faucet? Maybe a nice cup of drip at the office. Possibly a splurge at a name brand coffee shop? Or do you want someone who knows what they're doing to grind exactly 1 cup worth of beans and spend 5 minutes on your single serving pour over where they warm the carafe before meticulously adding piping hot water then presenting your beverage in a ceramic mug? If you want the later, even if it's exponentially more expensive of some of the aforementioned options then Peregrine Espresso is your choice.

What a great little Cafe! I popped in for an afternoon iced coffee. It was good and didn't cost me a fortune, but maybe I'm used to Seattle prices on local coffee. Service was quick. Most people here were working or socializing. The patio was busy for mid-day, but indoors was quiet.

The tea (especially the hojicha) taste is very watered down, unfortunately. I think their teas need to be steeped for a bit longer. Coffee is pretty standard--it doesn't really stand out to me. It is only one of the few places that have coffee on this street though so if you need a caffeine boost, it fills that need. Service is quick, and the line moves fast. Small place, but a fair amount of seating.

this is, surprisingly, my favorite coffee in DC thus far! So tasty, not burnt or sour, but not too weak. I will say, it's not the prettiest coffee shop - it's pretty crowded and kind of dim inside, but the coffee makes up for it. Baristas were nice as well, nice local spot!

Peregrine Espresso is a very good coffee shop.they had kid sized hot chocolate and the kids really liked it. I got a chai latte.On the top of the drinks there are designs like a flower . It's good too because they are very fast to get the drinks made.

I usually can tell by the smell of the coffee beans when I walk into a coffee house if I am going to like it or not. This one had me in the middle but I took a chance and ordered a nitro iced coffee and it was actually really good and flavored just right.

Interior is fine. Service was fine. I didn't really care for the coffee, which is sad since I came here for coffee. We ordered a mocha and a oat milk latte. First, the taste: the espresso used was kind of weak and didn't really stand out. Also, in the mocha, you couldn't taste the chocolate. The oat milk latte was much darker than the mocha. The price was also not worth me coming back. Will pass and find somewhere else next time.

Definitely not a strong coffee for coffee enthusiasts. Since the menu is limited I assumed right away that the coffee itself would be phenomenal. It was just okay. I like a bold, smooth coffee. This was light and weak. I wanted a mocha with flavor but they only carry chocolate and vanilla, which they stated they made in house...so again I was excited about that...hoping the simplicity would mean a fantastic cup. Nope. Could barely taste the chocolate and it was an extremely milky mocha. The worst for me. It was just a latte IMO. If you aren't a huge coffee enthusiast this place will do it for you. They make a cute cup, it's environmental friendly and the staff is friendly and it's in a great neighborhood in Union Station Capitol Hill right where they have a Saturday Morning market. The outdoor seating is great!

I ordered a cappuccino, and it was made very well. Can just taste the slight tartness of the espresso which was nice. I also got the candied orange scone which was not bad but not made in house so not hot-out-of-the-oven fresh. Nice that there's seating inside and outside, although it's still a small space and not the coziest ambiance. Overall, really great coffee, decent pastries.

This place has literally been a part of my weekend routine and it makes me so happy. I just love Peregrine and would always go to the one at Union, and now I come to this one frequently since my daughter attends little gym around the corner. The coffee here is some of my favorite coffee in the city. I always get the vanilla latte. I order via the Joe app, but the process ordering there is also really smooth. During COVID, the have a line set up where you can be distant. It does get packed on the weekends, so the line can get long, but it moves pretty quick!

What a great recommendation from a friend who used to live in the area. I had the oat milk lattè and it was wonderful! If your here on the weekend grab a drink and sit on the patio to watch people shop the market..... or better yet walk the market while you have a wonderful cup of coffee! We will be back next time we are in DC!

I'm on a quest to find the best coffee in DC while visiting home and Peregrine isn't it. The service is good but the coffee is so boring - dare I say it bland? There's nothing particular intriguing about the menu selections or the coffee beans. As a coffee connoisseur - I know coffee and this isn't something that makes me want to come back. Pricing is fine, if you're looking for just coffee and don't have access to a coffee machine at home, this will just due to satisfy your craving.

Today, I walked a little over a mile (in 30 degree weather) to visit Peregrine Espresso. I'd say it was worth the journey! I've been on the hunt for great hot chocolate in DC and read great reviews about Peregrine's hot chocolate! It was just what I was looking for! It was a smooth, chocolatey, and not too sweet. It was thicker than your average hot chocolate, but wasn't too thick or too rich (I hate when hot chocolate is too thick). I could tell that they definitely use real chocolate! No powder here! There's a nice (but small) seating area outside! The vibe is super cute!! I also REALLY appreciate their indoor ordering flow. For all my fellow campaign staffers out there, if this were a staging location, it would get an A++ (they even had sticker arrows on the floor). My only complaint is that my partner got a really cool design on top of his, but I didn't. I'm excited to go back to try one of their coffee drinks!

I'm not a coffee drinker, but peregrine is so cute I cannot resist. Conveniently located off of Penn Ave in Eastern Market, this small indie coffee shop is quite, cute, and yummy. With a few tea selections and quality pastries, I love to stop by and grab something to go or spend an hr doing work at one of their few inside tables. They also have outside seating. Their baristas are so cool and always strike up a small chat with me when the place isnt too busy. They're a little expensive, but coffee shops like this tend to be. I also love their map art of pen ave on the wall- it's a cute perk for transit lovers like me. They're also committed to minimizing waste, with compostable cups and lids! My only critique is I wish they had a few more drink options for non-coffee drinkers.

$4 for an 8 oz. drip coffee. Staff was not very accommodating or reasonable to talk to.

Came back two days in a row while visiting the area. Day 1 - iced americano - solid Americano, nice acidity, a little on the watery end for me, but good. The line was out the door and I think they moved quickly. Day 2 - iced coffee - more robust flavor, would order again. Nice location by Eastern Market, but loses a star for atmosphere. Nothing special. Not a coffee shop you want to hang around in. Decent place to grab a coffee if you're nearby.

Cute little coffee shop situated around a lot of other little restaurants and shops. I chose to purchase my coffee online, it was my first time getting anything from the app or the store and the app, joe, gave me a $1 off my coffee for signing up. I ordered an iced vanilla latte. On the app you are able to order and set up a pickup time which is great if you want to order it for later. The coffee was done within the time frame I was given. The coffee was good, a little on the bitter side. This coffee shop uses the strawless lids.

Worst iced latte of my life. Basically just a cup full of milk with 1/10th a shot of espresso on top.

Peregrine espresso is my favorite coffee place on the hill. I always get their iced vanilla latte and it's perfection! The location is a little small, but quick service will get you in and out in a jiffy!

$7+ for an iced mocha does seem expensive, but it's hard to gauge with today's prices; everywhere is expensive. But I can say the service was good and the mocha was delicious. Limited seating, but I didn't have an issue finding a seat l. Free wifi for 2 hours, it was enough time to get through a work call for me. Cool place in the Eastern Market by a lot of other restaurants. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

We ordered two mochas, one hot and one iced, and they tasted terrible. It tasted watery and not sweet. Just very disappointing when you spend $12 for two drinks and they can't even make decent specialty coffees...

Love this spot. Intimate and inviting. The staff is always so friendly and they make a killer latte! Additionally, they have a number of mouth watering pastries (that sometimes sell out before the day's end). My two personal favorites are the cinnamon roll and this caramel/pecan cluster "thingy" (which the formal name for it escapes me right now). I love the cinnamon roll because it's different. It's not the typical pastry with a large glob of icing that has melted over the sides to form a thick icing/glaze of sorts. It does have its own topping but it's more modest. Still sweet, but not sweetness overload. Now the caramel/pecan thingy, that's sweetness overload and (in my opinion) it's perfect for remedying a relentless sweet tooth. Moreover, this particular location of Peregrine has been a place where my husband frequents and has met many friends. Although small, it's a meeting spot for many on the Hill. The welcoming ambiance makes it a great spot for interesting conversations or even just to sit back, sip a cup of Joe and people watch. It's the type of place that I can't wait to visit again!

TL;DR the espresso here is fantastic! Their espresso brought out all the good characteristics that you'd hope for, nice acidity, beautiful clarity of flavor, no unexpected bitterness. Definitely worth going a little bit out of your way for a cup!

Visiting from out of town and tried based on the high reviews. We ordered lattes and mochas. They were good enough to keep us coming back 3 days in a row. The lattes and mochas are not watered down or too sweet, good strong coffee flavor. Wish they had a location where I live.

Literally the best coffee shop in Washington DC. When I lived in the DMV area I would always love to drop by here. Since I'm back for the holidays, I finally got to drop by before church on Sunday. It was around 10ish, and wasn't too crowded so got to order right away. I usually go for my regular cortado, but decided to trust Peregrine with a flat white. It was a great decision.. the best flat white I've had in a while. The micro foam was blended to perfection in my espresso, and had the creamy, velvety texture that I really wanted but rarely get in most coffee shops in the States. I didn't try any of their baked goods but they all look yummy :) The baristas are all fantastic at making espressos and also very kind and friendly as well. I really appreciate their service and as you can tell, am a huge fan of Peregrine. If ever visiting the DC area, you won't regret coming to the eastern market area for a good cup of coffee :)

Upscale espresso shop serving any and all types of espresso drinks, some teas, and a small selection of bakery items. Sitting inbetween Le Pain Quotidien and Pitango Gelato and amongst several other upscale Capitol Hill shops, you'll pay a pretty penny for your caffeine ($4 and change for a cappuccino) but it will be a perfectly frothed and beautiful creation. They also serve hot chocolate, which is graciously treated with the same care and flair. Much more preferable if you are here than going to a chain (this from a die-hard Starbucks fan).

We visited this place while touring DC from Tampa, the coffee blows doors all over Starbucks and the price point is even better

This place has a nice outdoor setting and is a pleasant place to sit down. Espresso tasted a bit weak.
