Reno’s Food Scene Is on a Winning Streak

"At Perenn Bakery, tables that spill out onto a sunny sidewalk are filled with locals catching up over towering cinnamon rolls glazed with brown butter, warm chocolate croissants, and fig and brie sandwiches made on golden housemade baguettes. The scene feels like something you’d find in Paris or Copenhagen, but the cafe is in the Midtown district of Reno, Nevada. Owners Aubrey and Tyler O'Laskey moved from New York to Reno to become private chefs, and eventually started a catering company. The couple, who met while studying at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, originally opened the tiny bread counter and cafe in 2018 as a side hustle. Instead, Aubrey O'Laskey says, “We were shocked to find a line out the door the first day that never stopped.” Perenn, which now counts three locations (including a grocery that sells gourmet goods and soft serve ice cream), is just one testament to how the northwest Nevada city has transformed in recent years." - Regan Stephens

Google
Found this bakery while we were in town one morning. We absolutely love the pastries here! The ladies that were helping us were super friendly. We got one of each items available that morning and they delicious. I would definitely recommend visiting here early in the morning if you are in town!

Google
This bakery is so delicious. I got the crème brûlée pastry as well as a chocolate croissant and their chocolate chip walnut cookie. The cookie wasn’t as good as Levain Bakery but it was still amazing. My husband tried their pumpkin bread and he liked it but I wish it was sweeter. Their breakfast sandwiches looked good but I’m not a fan of grilled onions on breakfast sandwiches.

Google
Two front girls that took our order were great. Very nice & pleased to help. We sat down to eat our pastries & decided we wanted one of them heated. Took it back to the front in which the gal from the back said she couldn't because we sat down with it & its a policy that once you have it you cannot bring it back to warm it up,even though it was never out of it's bag. Spent $35.00 .Very sad !!!

Google
It looked amazing based on Google photos. The breads were amazing. The breakfast sandwiche with bacon slices and caramelized onions was great. However, the service was terrible. I got my breakfast sandwich before I got my coffee. Basically ate breakfast without coffee. And my breakfast was supposed to be to go. I don't think I'll be back, unfortunately. Service is way too slow. And I should've had my coffee with my meal.

Google
Perenn Bakery in Midtown was a treat. The friendliness and hospitality of the staff was wonderful and made the atmosphere of their place even more inviting. The first day I had an amazing croissant with a cortado and I knew I had to go back to try their other items. The second day, I went in and had a chocolate croissant and that was equally amazing. Given their busy day, the staff even recognized me and I was so delighted they had the time to chat to help me pick out some goodies for the flight home. I highly recommend Perenn Bakery if you are ever in Reno. I surely will be back and hoping for sooner rather than later.

Google
Dang, had to come back to knock a star off my rating - the breakfast sandwich was not as described on menu (was supposed to have bacon jam, but it was just bacon bits.) I'm normally not a picky reviewer, but a %15 sandwich that's just bread and egg has gotta be worth the money. Beautiful spot tho, and bread is 👌

Google
Delicious pastries with very friendly staff. Ham and cheese croissant was crispy and delicious. Cinnamon roll was gooey and tasty. Espresso caramel Kouign Amann was very decadent.

Google
What an amazing introduction to a new fan favorite. A short wait to an exciting adventure in a meal. One of the best places in mid-town that we’ve ventured to in a while. The shop itself is well decorated and stocked up. Customer service here is clearly a priority and you can tell the regulars, who staff recognize and make few at home. This is the same way we felt when welcomed. A standard menu with an ever changing selection of fresh fantastic yummy treats!

Yelp
Stopped by this morning for some goodies for the road. The baked goods here are just as good as they look. The prosciutto & Gruyere cheese was buttery, flaky & soft a solid 10/10. The cinnamon croissant was a little too rich for me but delicious nonetheless. I can't wait to get home & bake the garlic, fig jam & brie bread that I got. I will definitely be back next time I'm in Reno & highly recommend you stop by!!

Yelp
This is the OG spot for Perenn before the rancharrah days. The memories of walking in smelling all the yummy baked goods and standing in line thinking of what they have to offer that day and if they have anything left! This spot feels darker but that's the mood set with the darker walls and the windows only at the front of the store. It's best to get there early to ensure you get what you what before they run out! They have tables to enjoy your coffee and breakfast but it's also small enough to just grab and go. The pace of the line is fast so as long as you know what you're getting, it's smooth sailing. I like their Vietnamese coffee and their kougian amann is my first love. Definitely one of my favorite bakeries in town!

Yelp
I stopped in for a quick bite to eat and coffee with my husband and we really enjoyed everything we tried! We ordered an americano, breakfast sandwich with bacon jam, ham and cheese croissant and chocolate and pistachio croissant. While we enjoyed everything, the croissants were certainly the highlight of our meal. We are not big on sweets but we loved the chocolate and pistachio croissant the best. Both croissants were flaky, fresh and absolutely delicious - perfect for a light treat! It's a smaller space but they had plenty of tables open when we entered. It's a cute place to meet up with a friend for a coffee date! The staff was also friendly and greeted up when we entered and helped answer any questions we had about the menu items. It is on the higher end of price but I think it's a nice place to treat yourself and I will definitely be stopping by in the future!

Yelp
Whenever we visit Reno (very often) we have to stop in upon arrival and before departure! They brunch items are amazing. And all the pastries and goodies from the bakery are delicious!!! Definitely recommend

Yelp
My 1st time in I got the avocado toast and ricotta toast came to about 31$... gave a 4 cause it's only based out of 2 items of their whole menu. But will rate each item below... Avocado toast 1 out of 5. It was so spicy I couldn't eat it. The only other thing that stood out and over powered the taste was the little bits of lemon. I tried to force myself to eat half and it was just to spicy. And made me nauseous. Ricotta toast 3 out of 5. Was just meh... very bland. I ate half sibce my stomach was still upset from the avocado toast ...I was grateful it helped extinguish the fire... If u Don't like spicy I would definitely request they don't add the chili. In the future I will also be requesting no lemon and extra onion. Couldn't even taste the onion buy u could smell it. I always give a place a second chance. But maybe not anytime soon.

Yelp
This location will always be my favorite place for the FRESHEST baked goods and bread. Perenn comes up with some of the best recipes for baked goodies. I have not ever been disappointed in trying their new things. Recommendations from the friendly staff has always been on point too. When I have friends visiting, this is the spot to take them to for some amazing baked goodies and even coffee!
google avatar

Yelp
Wow I love it here. Heater on in the winter and fall. Has a bathroom and free parking and cute flowers. Fresh bread and they take card. Affordable compared to sf prices and they also have coffee. There were three girls helping with orders so service was fast. Love Perenn

Yelp
Do me a favor and PLEASE EAT HERE!!! I was looking up bakeries to visit; my first choice was unexpectedly closed, and this place happened to be very close by. At first, I was skeptical because the cost of each item is Bay Area-tier, and I wasn't sure if it would be worth it. I am so glad I gave it a chance. Vibes: It's so cute and clean and aesthetically-pleasing. Staff is nice and efficient and great at explaining pastries and what's inside. Food: I ordered a chocolate croissant, almond croissant, pan suisse, 2 kouign amann (earl gray/lavender(?) and vanilla), earl gray cookie, matcha latte, and some other stuff I can't remember. Literally, some of the best pastries I've ever had. They were giant, so flaky, and the cream wasn't too sweet. I KNOW this place would thrive in the Bay if they ever decided to expand. Cost: Pricey, but worth it Highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area! I've been to the other location too. I might like the other one better since the space is larger, BUT the quality is the same at both locations. Do it! You won't regret it!

Yelp
Felt a craving and i stopped by for some pastries. Tried a cookie with melted marshmallow. Tried a huge cupcake type of pastry with cream and gold flakes. Tried the chocolate chip cookies and two other pastries. It was cozy, clean refreshing, and the staff were great. Patio setting outside is set up for you to enjoy your coffee. Next time i will take a seat and come in earlier to get ahold of their other pastries since they were sold out of a few. Loved it!!

Yelp
This was a have to come to place based on recommendations. A small and homey spot. Two visits in two days. Had the daily pastry and the prosciutto and cheese the first day. Great staff. Super nice. Came back the second day and got a box for the road. Only reason it's not a 5 is because at 9:30 am they were sold out of the daily pastry and close on others. Will be back to try more.
google avatar

Frost K.

Yelp
Delightful experience overall. Recently visited this place. I ordered a breakfast sandwich with bacon jam, egg soufflé and cheddar. The coconut orange blossom latte even came with a cute rabbit.

Yelp
A bakery I always recommend to everyone! I've been coming to the Midtown location for years if I'm craving pastries or need a caffeine pick me up. This location is quite small so expect to be scrunched up while you wait in line to order if you happen to go during a weekend (sometimes the line is so long that you might have to wait outside). The aesthetic and menu is something you can't find any where else is Reno and this is a big reason why I keep coming back. A few of my favorite menu items: - Earl grey cookie - I get this every visit - Chocolate bouchon, an underrated pastry item, decadent little chocolate cake to satisfy your sweet craving - Banana bread, the best banana bread I've ever had - Iced Vietnamese (dark roast) - their coffee roast is delicious (in any drink you get), I will warn that this drink has whole milk in it so it's technically not a "true" Vietnamese coffee, also it's pretty expensive as well compared to other restaurants which is a big drawback ($8!) Workers have always been really friendly and the environment is gorgeous. Seating can be tight inside but they also have seating outside as well. I would come here more often if it weren't so expensive but the cost makes sense based on the quality of the foods/drinks.

Yelp
This is a great spot- especially if you miss Europe and all of their amazing pastries! We got the chocolate croissant and bought their pistachio cream and put it on top- it easily reminded us of Italy and was delicious! We also got their breakfast sandwiches which were pretty tasty. I got the vegetarian with avocado on a croissant and my husband got the breakfast sandwich with sausage which is absolutely loved. The restaurant itself has great seating indoors and outdoors, tons if different cookies and coffees to get and we waited about 15-20 minutes to order and about 10 mins to get our food. I would give them 5 stars but I felt like the croissant could have been heated up and the sandwiches were a little cold. Def the best pastries and def made us feel like we were in Europe again!
google avatar

Vanessa D.

Yelp
Loved this little place! We tried ricotta toast and avocado toast which were both delicious! I agree it's slightly overpriced but you pay for the quality and freshness of the ingredients. There are a few seats inside but only 4 tables outside so you might have to wait if you're looking to sit down on a weekend morning. It did take a minute for the food and coffees to come out but everyone was friendly and we were in no rush :) This is a smaller menu then the Rancharrah location.
google avatar

Nora L.

Yelp
Definitely prefer the Rancharrah location. No designated parking here so be prepared: had to get dropped off. Pastry selection is not as diverse either. However it's less crowded than the other spot. Got the snickers mochi muffin: the shape made it difficult to eat but it tasted true to name. Not worth $8+. Giving +3 stars for speed and interior decor.
google avatar

Mike O.

Yelp
Low key one stop shop. Some gourmet sundries. Very good coffee. Really, really good pastries and breads. I never expected to find this place. It's not a huge menu but there's still a lot to chose from. Try the kouign-amann if they have them. Don't be shy and just get one of each of the cookies. The cinnamon buns are bonkers. The breakfast sandwiches are very good and not heavy. Lunch looks great too but I only came here for breakfast. It might be the best coffee in the immediate area (Hub not Included.) I did see some gluten free options. Staff here are so helpful and friendly. Obviously proud of their bakery. It was always clean and quiet, a great way to start the day. Baked goods: ***** Breakfast sandwiches: ***** Coffee: ***** Staff: ***** Location: ***** General vibes: ******
google avatar

Jordan F.

Yelp
Once again, absolutely had a blast at the midtown Perenn! The alternative flavors of their pastries keep me coming back for more!!! My favorite is their mochi muffin! Flavors do change, but they are always delicious. On a Saturday morning, I did have to wait and stand in a slow moving line, so that part was not enjoyable. If you wait in line though, you will be rewarded with yummy pastries!!
google avatar

KimberlyAnne O.

Yelp
Always Amazing!! Breakfast sandwich with grilled onions is our favorite, and basically melts in your mouth.. the potatoes are delicious and really hit the spot if your considering.. i think you still have to go in now to get any pastries like the Kouign Amon but if youve never had any, youre missin out! Also, Get there/order before noon, or be square! lol
google avatar

Patrick L.

Yelp
Wow these are some good pastries. I walked in expecting some typical pastries but was surprised by the amount of different pastries they have. I got their cinnamon roll, kouign amann, and earl grey cookie. Honestly I wasn't expecting much from any of them but they were all really good. I think the earl grey cookie didn't taste that great the first day but loved the rest of it the next day. I'd definitely come back for these pastries and maybe try their coffee as well.
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
We come to Perenn whenever we are in town Ever since the GF's sister-in-law suggested grabbing breakfast here for their fresh baked baguette, croissants, toasts & salads. They are open 7 to noon daily so we walked from the GSR for a late breakfast these couple of days. The 45 min walk in the crisp morning air had us enjoying their delicious food even more.
google avatar

C R.

Yelp
Ordered over a hundred dollars worth of items 3 hours ahead using their own system. I walked in on time, the order was not pulled or packed and half of the items were sold out by that point. Why even use an online ordering system? Why tell your clients to put a pickup time? Why don't you train your employees on the systems you use and profit from? I don't care how good your pastries are. If you can't run front of house, what else is being run poorly? Should I doubt the back of house cleanliness if employees are trained badly? What a dumpster fire.
google avatar

Jon W.

Yelp
I love this place. The croque madame is great. I highly recommend any of their pastries. It's counter service, and can get busy. I recommend arriving earlier if you want to sit. Takeout is probably best.
google avatar

Shannen M.

Yelp
No words. This is the real deal. Get there at opening or you may lose out. THE BEST! The muffins topped in gold flakes was to die for.
google avatar

Jonathan L.

Yelp
Decided to give this place a try after hearing all about it and having such excellent reviews. Small bakery in midtown. Limited parking outside but we were able to find some about a block away. Came around 11pm and most of the items were already sold out on a Saturday morning so i'd advise coming earlier. 1. Green Tea Mochi Muffin: My favorite of the order! Strong green tea flavor but not too bitter. Mochi bread was perfectly cooked and textured. 2. Ham and cheese Croissant: Ham and cheese was good and the pastry was very flakey. 3. Cinnamon Roll: Delicious! it was huge and I liked that you could rip it apart into pieces. Perfectly flavored and delicious. 4. Daily Danish: Thought it was alright and didn't stick out to me but the pastry was really high quality and super buttery and flakey. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overall, the restaurant itself was really nice and clean. The pastries are all very high quality and huge for the size. The prices also reflect this however and it can easily get expensive. We only bought a few and it ended up being $50.
google avatar

Maggie M.

Yelp
Excellent bakery with a beautiful selection of pastries and other baked goods. I had the crème brûlée kouign amann and it was simply amazing. Service a little slow because it was quite busy. A bit on the expensive side but the quality is top notch.
google avatar

Kelly S.

Yelp
Holiday weekend started very early for us! We fueled up at Perenn this morning before our crazy weekend. I do recommend coming to this location for quicker service as Rancharrah is almost always a bit longer wait times. Avocado toast is one of my favorites paired with Vietnamese coffee. I love my coffee dark so I appreciate that they ask if we want light or dark. Ordered 2 avocado toast, 2 coffees and a pastry for about $70.00. Wasn't expecting that, but so worth it! We live Perenn since day 1 they opened and will keep coming here for our pastry needs. My daughter and love the aesthetic feel! We are suckers for interior design and Perenn is, muah!
google avatar

Sam Z.

Yelp
This location is a bit small compared to their other location. However they still have all the good stuff. The reason I gave 4/5 stars is that I am not a big fan of their coffee honestly. So I would buy the croissant from here and go buy my coffee from somewhere else. But this is only me. I am too specific when it come to coffee. I would say they have the best croissant in town.
google avatar

April S.

Yelp
These are the most perfectly cooked cookies!!! Earl grey cookie is unique, hint of lemon. Love the chocolate chip cookies with a little sprinkle of salt on top. Also the croissant cookie is unique and delicious. I can't really describe it other than it is a cookie that is like a croissant. You know it when you try it. The almond croissants are wonderful as well.
google avatar

Sanya G.

Yelp
I personally feel like this more of a bakery place than a place I'd like to brunch at. I personally think it's overhyped for the cost and food received. The bakery item was ok but not great. The salted chocolate chunk cookie was practically raw tasting like cookie dough but hey some people like that. The crispy potatoes dish was average. Just a bunch of cut up potatoes, an egg, and bacon bits but charging you a cool $20. They do include tip in the cost but there'll still be an option to tip additionally at the counter so don't get smucked into that.
google avatar

Grace R.

Yelp
Perenn's croissants and croissant sandwiches are delicious. Not a fan of their bacon jam, but I just order without it and substitute actual bacon now. Everyone is always really friendly which is why I love stopping by!
google avatar

Pedro V.

Yelp
Walking around midtown and stopped by this bakery to get dessert we were craving. Ordered the walnut chocolate chip cookie and glad I did because it was very soft and chewy cookie with lots of great flavors. It pairs well with some coffee on the side We stopped by around 12 and they were almost out of bakery options! So I'd recommend going early if you want to try different options
google avatar

Sylvia F.

Yelp
Would give them a Stars if pricing was better. You can get just as amazing baked goods at a couple of other bakeries shops (won't mention in this review)

AM H.

Yelp
This is my moms favorite bakery so I always get her little treats from here, but hadn't tried many things for myself until recently. I love stopping by in the mornings since its within walking distance of so many cute shops in midtown, the plants in the store bring such a peaceful energy. The baked goods here are my go to and I find myself stopping by for sweet treats, coffee, or a good baguette at least once a week.
google avatar

Jan Michael F.

Yelp
The employees here are always so nice and they always greet people with smile. Their pastries and goods are always sooooo good. My favorite is their chocolate bouchon and their different Danishes. Their bottled coffee are delicious too! Their breads are yummy. The ambiance is great especially with the plants and the big table that everyone can share.
google avatar

Mary M.

Yelp
What a beautiful place and the smell as you enter is just heavenly. So many goodies to choose from and they all looked absolutely gorgeous! You can tell the bakers really take pride in what they do. We opted to share an almond croissant and cinnamon roll, both very large and shareable by more than 2 people! I also grabbed a 4 pack of choc chip cookies to take home, so delicious! I wish I lived closer to try other things but that could also be very dangerous!
google avatar

Lynda B.

Yelp
Walking in to the delightful smells of fresh baked pastries andd then seeing these AMAZING creations in the display case...you can't help but want to pick one of each. Fresh, delicious and tasty baked goods are ahhmazing!! From their everyday menu to Today's Specialty Pastries choosing savory or sweet is the next question you'll be asking yourself when you step up to the counter. On our latest pop-in we grabbed a Croissant Cinnamon Roll and the Chocolate Bouchon ~ absolutely deLISH!! with herbal mint tea and a latte sitting along the bar/front window enjoy && watch the day unfold outside. Fantastic pastries, service, located in the heart of Midtown. Limited parking and inside dining but added bonus walking accessible from anywhere in Midtown && outside dining that is dog friendly too. Be sure to grab a fresh baked pastry or even order online for grab & go. Enjoy!!

Muoi H.

Yelp
A must if you are in the Reno area! They carry a wide varieties of delicious pastries / baked goods and drinks !

Beverly H.

Yelp
I love Perenn Bakery. Their almond croissants are incredible, the mini cinnamon rolls are full of flavor. In fact all of their pastries are delicious. I'm always trying something new and I'm never disappointed. For ambience, the Perenn at Rancharrah is the best! I try to go there every time I'm in Reno. I only wish my hometown had something similar.
google avatar

Kirk H.

Yelp
Perenn really does have great pastries. But unfortunately they are the snobbiest pastry establishment anywhere. They refuse to serve pasties or food as the customer wants. They refuse to warm kougn amann or cruffins because "it damages the integrity of the pastry". What ever happened to the customer is right?? After I buy a pastry at the price of $10 with tax, I want it my way and don't need their snobby rules..

Carissa H.

Yelp
Everything was 10/10! We got six different items and they all were delicious. Choc chip walnut cookie: perfect amount of walnuts, not too nutty Choc chip salt cookie: great but we preferred the walnut one more Crème brule filled pastry: buttery flakey pastry filled with a fluffy custardy crème Croissant cinnamon roll: buttery and flakey with a special creamy glaze Cream and choc chip croissant: crispy flakey top but could have had more filling. We wanted to get a chocolate croissant but they already sold out at 8:45am Some play on French toast with caramelized butter sugar on a piece of bread and it was so good!
google avatar

Sandy C.

Yelp
Holy cow. Still wishing this place was in San Diego. I look forward to visiting my wife's sister in Reno because we get to visit Perenn! The cruffin was a pumpkin creme-sooo good. And the breakfast potatoes are insanely good, you must order those!!
google avatar

Darlene N.

Yelp
It's a cute little shop. It can get really busy at times, but the pasties are so worth it. I definitely recommend the prosciutto & gruyère croissant and their cinnamon roll croissant. They are my faves!
google avatar

Moji O.

Yelp
Match latte was a little bitter. I was expecting it to be sweet since the menu mentions honey. Ice vanilla oat latte was good. We went back on day 2 of our trip but the line was twice as long as our first visit. The line does move slow but the associates are treating every guest with care. The gruyere and prosciutto croissant was really good a good amount of salt. Kouign Amann had a lot of cream but wasn't as sweet as I've had at other bakeries. Berry croissant - it was good, the pastry tasted burnt it was more flaky The walnut chocolate chip was AMAZING!!!!
google avatar

Morgan F.

Yelp
The cinnamon roll was killer i don't even know what else to say. Highly recommend trying this place out and treating yourself to a delicious pastry. They know exactly what they're doing here. My husband got a black coffee that was also delicious and we're have tried their almond croissant which was delicious.
google avatar

Jordan P.

Yelp
I always enjoy coming into Perenn, make sure you arrive early because they sometimes tend to sell out of the pastries. They have indoor and outdoor seating available. There is a wide range of pastries, breads, coffees and teas. I highly recommend their walnut chocolate chip cookie and their new tumeric latte!
google avatar

John P P.

Yelp
Impressed with the baked goods every visit, despite the higher price. However, noted that for the price of coffee, an expectation is a freshly brewed cup, not from a thermos.
google avatar

Steffini A.

Yelp
Ugh Perenn, you are amazing. Perenn took all of my expectations for a bakery and blew them out of the water. So far I have loved every kind of pastry they have, but my favorite is the one filled with vanilla crème brulee. Omg it's amazing. Both locations are similar. The midtown location is a lot smaller and less busy than Rancharra. It's just a bit harder to park.
google avatar

Travis C.

Yelp
Just WOW! I'm still thinking about the CROISSANT CINNAMON ROLL and the VANILLA CRÈME BRULEE KOUIGN AMANN. Both pastries were amazing and trust me I eat a lot of pastries and baked items and these two stood out. The croissant cinnamon roll was such a delight and very unique. I've never had anything like this before and it was moist and very flaky. It was sooo good and I highly recommend it, also I asked and its the most bought item they said so I had to try it lol. Now lets talk about the kouign amann... Well this bad boy is big and filling. Just looking at this pastry it doesn't look like it but it's filled with creme brulee inside and sooo good! If you love baked pastries, cookies, great coffee and breakfast items then be sure to give this place a try. Trust me, you love it!
google avatar

Shy G.

Yelp
Always been a big fan of Perenn, but today was such a disappointing experience. I was pretty ecstatic that they had mochi muffins available online so, I immediately ordered a few and drove to the bakery. Only to be to told that it was "unavailable" and it will take a few days to get my refund back. It was not a close drive for me so I wish they would at least call ahead of time, but no. What's the point of doing online orders when you guys don't even have it available in the bakery?
