Hole-in-the-wall, family-operated Guatemalan restaurant. Digital jukebox with Non-Stop native music. Generous portions of tasty food at reasonable prices. Chicken fajitas were a bit bland for my taste. My companion loved the yellow rice and beans. Homemade corn tortillas. No A/C.

Nice hidden gem, food has great flavor. Pupusas needed more cheese. The grilled chicken and rice I received when I got home was the portion size for a kid not an adult. Birria tacos were dry and needed more seasoning. The horchata tasted like water. The parking is horrible. Inside was more of a bar with loud music

I discovered this place while looking pupusas and they’re some of the best I’ve ever had. On top of that the nachos are killer, and the tacos are amazing. We do takeout from here often and usually go to the restaurant and have a beer or a sangria while waiting for the food. Good music, great service, and as previously mentioned, great food. A must try.

Just moved a block away and went here on a whim...best whim I ever followed. I got the Apollo burrito like a gringo and let me tell you its was the best burrito I've had since moving here from California. As a retired chef id definitely be back to try the rest of by the menu.

We had such a great experience at this cozy spot! We stopped by for a light lunch and decided to try the chicken nachos. The chicken was perfectly marinated, incredibly juicy, and tender—bursting with amazing flavors. The entire dish was fresh and had just the right amount of spice. The ambiance was lovely with all the doors open, letting in a refreshing breeze, and the locals even joined in on the music, adding to the charm. The service was friendly and prompt, even with a bit of a language barrier. We’ll definitely be back for a full meal next time!

Taco place #4 while house sitting in Lake Worth. This is my second favorite, full of meat, great green sauce, tortillas a bit small and it had a hint of sweet that I could not identify. Will definitely be back!

Lake Ave in Lake Worth might have the hipster vibe and joints and you know your not in Palm Beach but Dixie Hwy in LW has the hidden gems. This place is a perla escondida indeed hiding in plain sight! It screams authenticity, from the old facade right up against the road to the VFW Hall meets Mexican cantina dining room. Hole meet in the wall, in all the best ways. You'd swear you were picked up and droped in Guadamala. They even had soccer on on Superbowl Sunday! . Boisterous crowd staving off covid with alcohol on a rainy Florida Sunday listening to very festive music cranked, I wouldn't change a thing. Popular with the local Guadamalan crowd I was the only gringo but was made to feel right at home. Some whiny Yelp Karens complained about the bathrooms. But as a great bar owner once said to me " I'll fix them up when they let me put a cash register in there!" Now the food. Limited menu, with a shingle on the street advertising tacos. It might draw you in as a value play but go for the authentic food. (I Didn't see a taco in sight!) I ordered my favorite Mojarra Frita, whole deep fried fish (Porgy in the north) with homemade tortillas, lime, lettuce, carrots...you get it. If you've never had it have it. A crispy and light, delicious fish. Fills you up but doesn't weigh you down. Ice cold Famosa beer hit the spot. It was only me and I'm not a local so the rest of the menu is up to you. I imagine it's great from what I saw. So stop in and give this place a shot it's the real deal. Break out of your shell and support this local joint. La Perla Escondida..... "Sea" Senor!.....Go!

Perla Escondida had been on my list to check out for a while now, and finally I paid a visit recently. Being that tacos and pupusas were my main two focuses for food on this given evening, I was pleased with both when I sat at the bar and enjoyed some lagers as I noshed. The interior and exterior is full of character, just with how the building is situated on a slight hill and the former has a couple of steps that take you into a back dining area. There's two areas for outside seating, which feels more like an old porch/patio than anything that would be considered formulaic. There are two parking areas, and I would recommend using the south-side one, where there are more spots and its easier to access. I liked the side-doorway that took you into the restaurant, where immediately you faced two narrow bathroom doors, and to your left brought you into the main room. Loved the red trim around the entryways and along the walls. The ceilings had paintings of various Central American landscapes and scenes. The Guatemalan-influenced decor really gives Perla Escondida the full experience and feel of what a local hangout should be. The speakers blasted Spanish-sung music, as I chilled at the bar and ate some chips and drank beer. It's hard to find a building like this where it's definitely been around for a few decades, and has the character, with a lot of chill, laid-back vibes. I sat there for a bit as I enjoyed some chicken and chorizo tacos that were very magical, with the chimichurri sauce, as well as the spicy sauce into which I had been dipping my chips. The chicharron pupusa was awesome, so awesome that I forgot to take a picture as I took one look and started devouring. There's more on the menu that I want to try, for sure. Just a great Guatemalan eatery that has great eats.

The food was delicious and the price is great! (Just be warned, the Pisco sour drink comes in a beer bottle and costs $23 for one!). Service was great and food was fresh and delicious. The spicy dishes are spicy so beware if you don't like things hot. My boyfriend ordered the ceviche and said it was the best he's ever had outside of Peru. They take reservations and I recommend making them because the place is quite small. They also only had one server the night we were there and although she was super nice and friendly, she definitely could have used an extra set of hands. But it's the keys and help is hard to find so I understand. We'll definitely be back!

We almost didn't go in... but wow! What a treat that we did! If you like authentic Guatemalan or Mexican fare, this is your place. We are always looking for where we can have authentic carne asada tacos and not have to wear a mask... well, the Carne was on point and there wasn't a mask in the place thank God! Additionally, the owner is super gracious and accommodating and the servers were sweet and happy to be there! I love seeing that. Everyone there was very friendly and made us feel welcome! What a fun surprise! The carne tacos were insane! Small but worth every penny (2.50 lol!). They don't have alcohol except wine and beer. This would be my only complaint. This kind of food is worth a margarita!!

I love this restaurant... it feels like I'm in another country. The food is super fresh and the owner and his wife are extremely accommodating... Fajitas are really good Shrimp ceviche is very good Tostitos are delicious Their chips and salsa so good. Their Guatemalan tamales were without a doubt the best I have ever had, but I don't think they are on the menu anymore (please bring them back) Wine could be better My friends from DC area never miss a chance to eat at Perla when they are in town...

My boyfriend and I have dined in twice here already and we just love it. The pupusas are delicious; the salsas have great flavor; the beans and rice are a must; the service is very inviting and quick. Very affordable and definitely worth trying. My boyfriend loves the tacos, especially the chicken. I enjoyed the sangria while he drank Modelo. Easy parking in the lot next to the restaurant as well. Visit and you'll enjoy your time while supporting a family business!

I guess we hit them at the low point of the week, but no excuse for serving inedible food. Atrocious tacos in the middle of a Sunday afternoon! Pastor was burnt, and carne asada had very obviously been sitting around for hours--dry and tough. The pupusas were ok. We thought we'd be getting something authentic and fresh, as this restaurant appears to be plucked right out of rural Mexico or Guatemala--a lot of rustic charm--but sad to say the food did not live up to expectations, and the restaurant did not address our concerns. There are far better Mexican eateries in Lake Worth, which will actually make your food fresh to order.

Eh this was ok the servers were friendly, but the food took forever to come out. The restaurant itself was cute, but I wouldn't say the best ever. The burrito was huge but it wasn't inspiring. Boyfriend got fajitas and no plate to prepare them on. No one checked back on us either so he literally had to hold them as he assembled and ate them. Needless to say he wasn't thrilled. I also asked for beef and got chicken. We wanted to go based on reviews, but I definitely dont think this place is as good as the hype leads you to believe. But maybe we went at a bad time. It wasnt bad, just not memorable.

I was led here after searching for Mexican food on yelp. But I'm pretty sure this is a Central American joint. I love a good pupusa, and theirs are top notch, from the bean to the loroco, A-plus. My (much much much) better half enjoyed the chicken burrito, which is a high compliment. Service was great, although it was entirely in Spanish. I suspect you could get by with pointing and gestures if you don't speak Spanish, as the menu is bilingual. There is a small parking lot. Also, definitely try the horchata! Although it's a bit off the beaten path, Perla is worth a visit!

Excellent little find. Authentic Mexican and cheap prices. Surprised more people haven't caught on to this joint yet. They should!

I was driving down Federal one night looking to try Lupita's when I stumbled upon Perla Escondida and saw a sign out advertising tacos and burritos. There is a small parking area on the south side of the building. It was very late, around 10, but they were still open (only some employees inside at the bar area). I ordered from a kitchen in the back. I was informed that they only had 3 choices of meat for the tacos and burritos: asada, chicken, and chorizo. Maybe they were out of other meats or just don't do them. I got an asada burrito, chicken taco and chorizo taco for takeout. The burrito was a little disappointing. It was on the medium-to-smallish side in terms of size, and the asada meat did not stand out. Was more like eating a ground beef burrito. The tacos were an improvement and tasted authentic with corn tortillas and plenty of cilantro. The chorizo is on the saltier side. Their red sauce has a nice kick to it. Prices are fair, service was quick. They need more choices as far as meats go though.

Two star for the taste but place is real hole on the wall, dirty, and waiting staff doesn't speak English at all, we order one thing and got completely different, also half of the items we asked first wasn't even available, so not coming back for sure!

The name says it all! Definitely a hidden pearl!! First off its Guatemalan not Mexican and the food is perfect! Sorry for the absence of pictures , as soon as it hit the table we scarfed it down! I ordered two veggie tacos , plantains , rice and beans everything came out pipping hot and fresh, the picante , and crema' were perfect dipping companions. My lunch dates raved over there orders, and we all appreciated how quite and Quaint the place was! Prices were perfect they don't make you feel robbed and the food should definitely put a smile on your face!

DONT GO!!! The parking lot consists of a deep hole and men sitting in their pickup trucks. The music was so loud and the manager wouldn't lower it. The bathrooms were nasty (trashcan on the toilet). We didn't even try the food, our reasoning... If the front of the house with this bad the back of the house was must be worse. Go south a couple blocks for good Mexican food.

This place has the best tamale I have ever had ever. Moist super flavorful excellent. I got a couple of taco the chicken was good also got the churrizo as well and they were great. Food was very good I order it Togo it was a little late around 1 a.m. Being that late and the food was that good thumbs up. Staff seemed friendly the decor make u feel as if you were in Central America can't wait to go here at a normal time to sit down and eat.

As a Guatemalan, this place is as Guatemalan as you can get. We had some traditional dishes and they were amazing. Washed it down with a Famosa (known in Guatemala as Gallo). Please deviate from what is traditionally known as Hispanic foods. Not that their burritos and tacos aren't bad, but try a tamal, ceviche, pepián, etc. Get out of your comfort zone and explore. You won't regret it!

Wow. What a fantastic find! My husband is from Guatemala and this little hole in the wall made us feel like we were back in Antigua. All of the food was fresh, delicious and authentic. We both had horchata, ceviche, Chapin tamale and rellenitos. Oh my stars. SO GOOD. We will definitely be back to try other items.

As a taco enthusiast, I would have to say, the tacos here are amazing & delicious. I got the steak tacos and was not disappointed! The service is great as well, just be prepared to pull out your 3rd grade Spanish to order, but if that doesn't work, there's no shame in pointing at the menu for what you want to order (:

Enjoyed this restaurant very much. My meal was freshly prepared and served nice and hot. Customer service was excellent. No complaints whatsoever. I definitely enjoyed my experience here. Looking forward to my next trip.

This place dosn't look like much from the outside but it's what they're serving that matters. I had asada taco and chicken taco Both very authentic, soft shell, served w just onion and cilantro for 2 bucks a piece. Service is friendly. If you're tired of half baked tex mex Mexican this here's your place. Lots of parking along side of restaurant.

Cute inexpensive Guatemalan restaurant on dixie highway in the vibrant up and coming lake worth restaurant scene. Had a great Guatemalan egg breakfast for $5, so nice find in the inexpensive category. Dinner looks interesting also, full menu including desert and liquor. Nice room for an inexpensive spot, not sumptuous but pleasant.

Don't be scared. Go here. Food is amazing! Excellent service, food and spotless inside! Yummy sangria, pollo Milanese and steak tacos!

Stopped by cause of the reviews....& we were down the street! So glad we did! My boyfriend said his tacos were some of the best he's ever had, I agree.....we eat A LOT of tacos! Loved my pupusa, I will be back to try all the other ones and the tamales!

Really enjoyed this place and will be returning often. When I was a teenager I went with my father on a medical mission to El Salvador and ever since then I've sought out pupusas whenever possible. The pupusas were wonderful. My girlfriend and I each had two chicharon pupusas. I also had a chorizo taco. The tacos are a bit small, and I was a bit critical of the tortilla but I think this criticism is a result of my recent trip to Zapata across the street. I will try other menu items in my future trips. The ambiance of this place is awesome. The walls and ceiling are painted with murals and soccer is on the television. They keep the doors open to the restaurant so this time of year (October) there's a nice breeze blowing through. It feels like being transported to Central America.

Everything was great, we decided to try some place new on the way to Lupitas and were not disappointed! The asada is flavorful and tastes great in everything we had it in, the chicken was even better, it really carried the taste of the grill into each dish. If you like tamales, definitely try the Guatemalan tamale here. We ordered a TON of food, with two whole delicious burritos leftover that we couldn't even finish and the bill was outrageously low. Hours later I'm still satisfied but the burrito in my fridge is calling my name. If you like all meats, try the mixed burrito.

What a cool spot. I feel like I just came back from a trip to Central America! Wonderfully authentic in both food and atmosphere. Everything is presented with heart and soul. The owners are extremely welcoming. I highly recommend stopping in and giving it a try
