Good place for kids to play in Jersey City Heights area. Packed with elders and kids around evening time. Good place for a walking or jogging. Not enough space for parking, only few spots near kids play area and couple of street parking spots.

As Spring 2024 awakened so did these beautiful flowers, fortunately I had the chance to take some pics as I walked my aunty and her doggie. Pershing Park is one of the best neighborhood parks in all of New Jersey! Well attended and utilized by most if not all of the surrounding communities. It's worth the trip, #justdoit #donttellyourmom.-@darrel3000

A beautiful park right in the heart of heights area in jersey city. Its Big, Beautiful, eventful and highly connected location. Its a nice place for kids to play, to get some fresh air and to learn different sports. There is big loop available around the grass field for kids and adults to either run, walk or to ride a bicycle. Dont miss the war memorial here that is dedicated to vietnam war heroes. There are so many trees planted in their memories it felt so nice to see that. Also here you can enjoy both the cherry blossom and fall season. Winters are even more amazing when its covered with snow, you can go there with kids and family and make big and beautiful snow man. The only problem i see here is its kind of crowd y at evening time, but again, everyone whats to be at best place to spend some quality time and to make memories. Considering the pandemic situation, i will suggest to avoid occupying crowdy space. Wear mask and keep sanitizing your hands. Stay safe stay happy and stay healthy. Ciao!!

Medium sized park with running track, tennis and basketball courts, public pool, and kid's playground with sprinklers. Gardens are maintained by volunteers from Pershing Field Garden Friends. The walking trail in the adjacent Reservoir #3 is now open. Photos were taken in Spring 2024.

Yelp
(Visited 12/07/2022 WE @ 11:00am... and several times before and after): Apparently... we're pursuing squirrels at this field park! Since my dear friend moved to Jersey City last year along with a furry family member we shared during the pandemic lockdown in 2020, she found Pershing Field Park as the new place in her neighborhood to take Rasputin, a Scottish Terrier, on one of his adventurous walks. Named for General John J. Pershing, nicknamed "Black Jack", who served most famously as the commander of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) on the Western Front during World War I. We have since playfully nicknamed this place, "Squirrel Park", for the abundance of these fuzzy-tailed rodents he would maniacally pull and tug on his leash as he excitedly chased after them https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=mR1fKuAnp0j3MhZPKgChdQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. It also seemed to be very dog-friendly although I couldn't recall seeing any posted signs to acknowledge this. Obviously, the little black beast loved this place, but what about us humans!? PURCHASE Sorry, there was nothing to buy here. I didn't even see any street vendors unlike the abundance I would see back in L.A. SERVICE Of the several times I've visited the park, I've never seen any staff members or workers cleaning or tending to the various facilities (e.g. bathrooms, fields, general grounds, pool, trashcans, etc.). Thankfully, everything appeared to be well-kept generally speaking, except for the bathrooms which were always an issue at any public park wherever you went. PARKING (FREE; N/A this instance) A simple 10-minute one-way walk from my friend's place. Otherwise, there was a small onsite lot, and there seemed to be sufficient street parking along the main drag of Central Ave. and all surrounding roads - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A spacious city square corner and park located in The Heights, this had most if not all or more of what you'd expect from such a place. From open spaces, grassy field, oval running track, baseball field, basketball court, tennis courts https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=g2BS61DWG-FtY0oWI2GLBw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw, plenty of walking pathways https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=TFhigo921QNxiSSTS7s80Q&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw, and even a recreation center along with a pool and ice rink, plus, a children playground - whew! In addition, there was a nice Vietnam Veterans Memorial community Center https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=_d3XRPltFQJVfhZK8ZyRaw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw with many commemorations memorials to fallen service individuals since World War I marked by a lovely archway https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=tuOxZ5MdJunS8pYsa2qevA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. And, there was this fun little literary post https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=CHUqdmAeJsnpwoRQGWXgyA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Furthermore, there were plenty of trees and squirrels https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=3Wb1IsMqXDRTn8HJi5pZ-w&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw! Obviously, there was plenty of natural lighting (duh!) while electric lights illuminated the playing fields. There weren't any TVs while the confluence of exercising people, playing children, random chatter, vehicular traffic, and more, filled the background. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops... if it weren't so freakin' cold. OVERALL I found Pershing Field Park very pleasing, relaxing, and such a joy for our fuzzy alligator, and would continue to visit it for years to come. It was in a safe area, and I would like to see how it was during the warmer months (I imagined more robust activities) versus the colder winter months when I visited. And darn it... Rasputin loved chasing the squirrels! I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $0.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, because there was nothing to buy, they didn't accept any form of payment that included my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

Yelp
This park packs a lot into 3 city blocks. The park has: Swimming pool Charlie Heger Ice Skating Rink Basket ball courts Tennis courts Track Baseball fields (2, I think) Children's playground There is a small parking lot by the pool, but there is street parking all around the park. None of the above are new facilities, but even so, it's great to have all of these activities in one spot. The park is well used by the community, and the crowd is a mix of you people hanging out and middle aged people exercising. Very safe park, except at night some people let their pit-bulls run off leash.

Yelp
One of my neighborhood parks that I use for my morning strolls. As previously stated in other reviews, this park has tons of activities for all ages. The one thing the other reviewers didn't see/mention is the bocce courts.(It's an Italian thing) I have been told a lot of the older gentlemen in the area come here to play and hang out. I have not been here at night, during the day it seems very safe. The local community tries to spruce it up with plantings during the spring, but I think some of the fields/track could use some upgrading.

Yelp
Pershing Field Park ice skating rink is a great place to skate with family, friends, loved ones or even alone. I came here with a group of friends and the rink wasn't that crowded at all. This was my first time ice skating...PERIOD!!! And I'm not much of a rollerblader/ roller skater either. So yeah....lol The prices were great. I believe it was $5 for admission ($3 for Jersey City residents) and $5 for skate rental. I hit the rink and was scared sh**less! First lap I held onto the railing while moving very slow. Second lap, I went a little faster but still held on. Third time around...no hands. I was so proud of myself :-D. My fellow ice skaters were friendly, understand, and patient. I will definitely come back to ice skate at Pershing Field.

Yelp
Nice recreational facilities. Basketball courts, a large track, baseball field, pool. ice rink. Not as much grass as Riverview-Fisk or Washington Parks but in a great central location. I've been coming here a lot recently for the activities available in the community center (http://www.cityofjerseycity.com/recreation.aspx?id=3886). The boot camp on Tuesday and Thursday nights (except the 3rd Tuesday of the month) is free and it is good. Courtesy of JC Dept of Recreation, Mario of Creative Fitness Concepts leads a butt-kicking hour-long circuit training. He's good about showing modifiers so people at all levels can participate without straining themselves. He keeps the music pumping to get energy levels up. I also went to a great Zumba class on Saturday afternoon. At $7 a class, way less expensive than packages at many of the area gyms. I heard a walk/run club meets on Mondays but haven't had a chance to check it out yet. All in all, a great way to start or boost your activity levels in an easy to find location.

Yelp
The good: ice is clean, smooth, not crowded on a Sunday afternoon. Skates are clean. Food concession stand, but did not try it. The bad: Place is run by teens. They talk in groups and are not regualting ice/ rules. Public skate time could be dangerous. Kids doing stunts around people, not being told to stop. Employees also doing stunts around people Rented skates are not sharpened. Changed twice to get something decent. No system for managing shoes. Almost lost my shoes- offered me other pairs asking, "is this yours? no? how 'bout this?" Pay per period and they did not tell me otherwise. Spent 30 min on ice before zamboni came out. Told to pay again despite spending such a short time on, so i left. Cost is $18 for people, this includes renting skates. Location- roof, but open sides (fencing)And they lock the all exit gates, except one. Pretty sure that's a fire hazard. TL;DR - They need to fix the rules. Has potential..but I was not pleased with my time and $ spent. Too bad it's one of the only ones in Hudson County.

Yelp
Pershing Field is in many ways the cornerstone of the Heights. Although it's not the largest park in the area (Washington Park) nor the most scenic (NYC skyline at Riverview, western sunsets at Gordon Park), it has the most facilities and amenities of any of the local parks, and it is common to see it teeming with people on many a summer afternoon. In addition to the baseball diamonds (used by the local little league teams), there is a year round indoor pool (accessible by membership or by the day), ice rink, dirt running track, (crappy but usable) tennis courts, basketball courts and a kids playground (complete with water jets that shoot out water in the summertime). Although most of the facilities are quite worn and dated, it doesn't stop families from bringing their youngsters out to play catch, go for a swim, or just hang out. Safety-wise, the park has seen much worse days, but although the odd incident may occur every now and then, it is for the most part safe. The park isn't only used for playtime - it's common to see other groups and organizations use it year round, for anything from block parties, to fundraisers, and even a large carnival (complete with rides, food, games) a few times a year. It's because of this that Pershing field is the backbone of the Heights, and hopefully the park will be maintained by its residents for years to come.

Yelp
Wonderful place for families to hang out. I went to a party at the ice skating rink today and had so much fun!! They also have a pool, baseball field and playground!

Yelp
Nice track inside the park. It's a good size for its location and has 2 full basketball courts as well as tennis courts. (Think about 4). There's a community center as well next to the ice skating rink and pool.

Yelp
I never go to Pershing Field. Nice track to run, ice rink, tennis courts, and such. I'm gave it 4 stars because of the adjacent reservoir. Awesome little space in the middle of urban Jersey City. Cool trail runs along its outer rim and oddly enough some interesting wildlife. If u have time check it out. Have fun

Yelp
I love the fact that this park is near my place, even though it's farther than would have liked it to be.Its the kind of place that you can go as a family, there's something for everyone here.Lots of space for kids to run around, tennis courts, race track, baseball, swimming pool and even a skating rink in the winter.(There used to be a children's play area but that seems to be in the process of being demolished). The husband and I really like the track here.We come here often for running/walking.There is always a moderate crowd around unless its late at night.Quite a lot of activities seem to be happening here-swimming classes in the summer, ice skating in the winter and children's activities. There used to be Zumba classes over the weekend but I am not sure if that still holds true. The park is well maintained and well-lit at night. This is definitely a much needed and enjoyable place in the neighbourhood.

Yelp
Nice new swimming pool with membership or day fees. Free tennis, basketball, baseball, running track, renovated kids play area, ice skating rink(may have fees). Trees, wooden benches. Lovely place to have in the neighborhood.

Yelp
I was SO excited to find out that there was an ice skating rink in Jersey City. I decided to drag my husband here to skate with me on a Sunday afternoon! We arrived a while before the first session started, so we walked around Pershing Field Park for a bit beforehand. The park was really nice and seemed well-maintained. The community center seemed to have some good programs, including a zumba class which I may have to come back to try out! The skating rink was well maintained and the rental skates seemed in good condition. I couldn't believe how inexpensive it was, too! My only issue with the rink is all of the kids fooling around on the ice making it unsafe for other skaters. I thought it was outrageous the way they were behaving - the kids were shoving each other and making other people dodge out of their way. Skating the wrong direction and kicking up ice at one another. I kept waiting for one of the skate guards (both teenagers themselves) to tell the kids to stop goofing off. But one of the skate guards just started PLAYING with the kids! Playing a violent game of tag and making even more chaos on the ice. After almost getting knocked down multiple times, I decided to call it quits. I really think the skating rink could be so much better if they hired more professional skating guards who maintained the peace so everyone would enjoy skating on the rink.

Yelp
A great park for family fun, a workout, or simply enjoying an ice cream cone. There is a path that surrounds 2 baseball fields great for walking (not so good in rain or when wet as it is not paved). There are a few basketball and tennis courts. A swimming pool for use year round, and an ice rink to use in the winter. As of today (05.18)they are still working on the playground for children, they are installing a new one, it looks great, i can't imagine them working on it for much longer. The park has CitiBikes and bus stops and is close to much of the Central Ave. shopping. There is normally a food truck and an italian ice cart right outside of the park. Check it out!

Yelp
I like pershing field. It's inexpensive! There's this one life guard who was on duty last March 31, Thursday at 7pm.. Asked us to use the side of the pool with the kids and all othe people because we are only swimming half part of the pool where you take full laps (well, we're sorry because unlike u ur prolly been practicing swimming for ur entire life when the rest of us had our practice waaay 15yrs back!! We need to practice breathing and exercise our body and condition our minds to be able to do full laps!! We cant do that unless u want us to just dip together with rest of people using the pool just for fun and pleasure!!) plus, her locker was in our side and banged her locker out when she's done using it! She is really giving us attitude and singled us out for no reason!!! Jealousy? We are not like u who should be a good swimmer!! We need to practice so we can be one but ur so great u only want us to dip!!! While other adults u cant even tell them to stop and transfer to the dippers because they are older? U can only made us transfer because we are young adults! Good thing we are not in mood to speak up and just let it go!!!!) WE HOPE NOT TO SEE HER ANYMORE!!! If she's the lifeguard, we'll just leave!!! She is not supportive in any way!!! We'll drown because of her!!!!! (Making us want to swim full laps when we dont even have practice!!!!) argh!!!!

Yelp
I just move here and the park is about 10 mins from where I live. Very clean, very friendly environment, and a nice place to go and sit and read. So far great impression about this park.

She S.

Yelp
We have been to Pershing Field pool a few times. The lifeguard and people at the front who run the place let packs of teenage boys divebomb into the pool so that 1/4 of the pool is not useable as you risk being injured by teenagers flying through the air like wild animals landing on your head. It is totally ridiculous that they allow kids to run on the pavement by the pool and fly into it in packs. The pool is divided into swimming lanes (1/2), a children's area 1/4, and the other 1/4 is not useable because there are always four to six teenage boys jumping into it. So if you are an adult and the swimming lanes are full then there is no place to safely swim, since the children's area is always too packed to move. There are signs around the pool that say NO JUMPING and NO RUNNING but the lifeguards and office people not only ignore that, when you ask them to tell the kids to quit jumping they say no they won't stop it. The city is going to wind up being sued when the teenagers injure themselves or someone else and it's going to be the taxpayers who have to pay out.
