Upcoming Chicago-Area Restaurants and Bars to Know, Spring 2021 - Eater Chicago

"Pescadero in suburban Wilmette is planning to open a location in Chicago proper at 1258 W. Belmont Avenue. The address formerly housed Fahlstrom’s, a venerable seafood restaurant and market that served the area since 2014." - Naomi Waxman

I recently dined here with friends, and overall, it was a very enjoyable experience. Our server, Justin, was attentive and made sure we had a great time throughout the evening. I started with the Calabrian Octopus and Lobster Bisque. Both were delicious, though the bisque was missing the chunks of lobster I typically expect. The octopus was perfectly cooked, rare for many places, which tend to overcook it, and the sauce it came with added a nice touch of flavor. For my entrée, I chose the Diver Scallops, which were cooked to perfection. While they were a good size for the price, I do think one extra scallop would have made the dish feel like a better value. The portion was satisfying, but a little more would have been ideal. A note on the bread: it’s an extra charge, which is becoming common at upscale restaurants. It was garlic bread, though, not just plain, and it was really well done, neither too chewy nor too crunchy, just the right balance. The drink menu is diverse, with a solid selection of wines, cocktails, spirits, and beers. I opted for a few glasses of Sauv Blanc to pair with my seafood, and it was a great choice. To cap off the meal, I ordered a double espresso. Honestly, I would come back just for that, probably the best way to finish the evening.

The night started off very strong. Our server Justin was a joy and had personality, a sense of humor, and a great vibe. He was attentive, made great suggestions for drinks, and kept everyone at the table in a great mood. The food... the food was hit and miss. Our appetizers were amazing. The calamari was a major hit with the entire table. And it gave us high hopes for the rest of the meal. Which was honestly a letdown. We ordered a variety of food, and the general consensus was, "It's alright." I ordered the seafood tower and got a giant bowl of ice. There wasn't enough food on the plate to feed one person, and for the price, I think that is unacceptable. So if you go be prepared because again the entire staff is pleasant and kind. However, some of the food can miss the mark.

We had a light dinner and drinks on the patio, enjoying a lovely spring evening. I had the watermelon salad and my friend went for the chopped salad. Our cocktails were nice - I had the Captain Vandalay and I thought it was refreshing but lacked the zing I was hoping from the grapefruit. The cocktail with the orchid is Lady Lydia. The service is always friendly. I had their oysters before and they were very fresh. Be ready that there’s always a bit of a push for the oysters (since it’s an oyster bar!).

This review is based solely on the bar service. Admittedly, we came here for a couple drinks while we were waiting on a table at a nearby restaurant. The cocktails were superb. We would like to return for dinner sometime, but we didn't appreciate when we paid our tab that the bartender said "enjoy your dinner elsewhere." Sorry we didn't order enough for you to value us as customers.

We found this place due to restaurant week and the menu looked really good. So we figured we would l come and try it out. We started out with some East Coast oysters. They were fresh and tasted great. I got the restaurant week special. The $60 one I got calamari chipino and key lime pie and a salad came with it also. The calamari was excellent. Lightly fried with banana peppers. The chipino on the other hand, well let's say the sauce tasted really good. The seafood was overcooked, chewy and not so great. The key lime pie was just regular key lime pie. Nothing super special. But the brussel sprout salad was surprisingly really good. My wife had the lobster roll. You can't go wrong with the lobster roll. It was super good , buttery and full of flavor. The parmesan fries that came with it were also really good. They were crunchy and full of flavor. The service all night was a little slow. It took a while for our drinks to get to us. The waitress said there was a problem with the printer at the bar so our ticket didn't get printed. 15 minutes later she came back to us and let us know.. After we got our orders in our food came out quickly and hot. Would we come back to this place? Maybe if we were in the area, but I don't think it would be worth a special trip for us again to each their own.

We we're in Winnetka to view the Home Alone One home and was feeling adventurous to explore the dining places around the area. Pescadero was super nice enough to let us do a walk in and our experience there was just great, the place is not so big but it looks very nice and clean. We had oysters, which was super fresh, the calamaris was one of the best I've ever had, the cioppino was kind of way too salty for my taste and the fish was kind of missing but overall it was nice and I'm glad we stopped by this restaurant. See photos for motivations. lol

I wanted to love this place but it really doesn’t live up to the hype. The outdoor patio is great and there’s a musician who plays across the street on Friday evenings (really adds to the setting). The food is just okay. The best dish by far was the lobster Mac and cheese (not pictured). The server was curt with us, which seemed odd for such a nice place. I’d be willing to give it another try but not rushing back.

I was hesitant to write a review but after getting home from our dinner at Pescadero in Wilmette I couldn’t shake the disappointment from our meal. My son is home for the holidays and was in the mood for seafood, so I thought we’d give this local place a try. He ordered the Cioppino which was just ok. It comes with only 2 pieces “baked bread”. When he asked for more we were told there would be an extra charge. I ordered what I thought was a lobster roll. What I received was toast with some “lobster like”shreds in mayo. There was zero flavor other than mayo and no chunks or even pieces of lobster in it and it was $28. (I ate maybe four bites total) Food prices do not match the quality of service. Plus i’m not sure if this is a new thing or it has been out there before but it’s the first time I’ve noticed a 3% hospitality fee on the check which is in addition to what you leave for a tip. Needless to say, we will not return.

Yelp
Food was excellent, service was inviting, ambiance was wonderful. The menu was small but manageable...!

Yelp
The food is fine for this price point. Crab cake app, 3/5 - nothing to come back for. Weeknight special of skirt steak on tangy sauce and potatoes, 3/5 - fine. Ordered medium rare and came out medium-done. Weeknight special of seafood risotto, 3/5 - lots of cream sauce with al dente grains. lots of crunchy vegetable bits like celery. 2 seared scallops, 2 shrimp Great location in downtown area. Upscale venue.

Yelp
Food was good. Some offerings more flavorful than others. Do-no-harm food. Service was very good. Our server was attentive & personable despite being super busy. Ambiance is noisy on weekend evenings. Our cocktails were super weak and not made well. Why bother asking which gin I'd prefer if you're not going to put any in the drink? This restaurant is just fine overall. Downtown Wilmette has blossomed into a destination with several good restaurants and most are worth a visit. A far better restaurant town than the soon-to-be-overcrowded downtown Evanston which seems hopelessly devoted to catering to the fast food tastes of NW students.

Yelp
Fish and chips was boring . Altogether overpriced. Service was good . Cozy atmosphere.

Yelp
I have visited Pescadero for both brunch and dinner and I just love this place! They have a great Bloody Mary brunch and great oysters. I most recently went there for dinner on Valentine's Day. My partner got the scallops and I got the special which was coffee rubbed steak - both were great!

Yelp
My daughter took me to Pescadero for oysters. We were greeted as soon as we walked in by a very friendly man (owner or manager?), and seated immediately. The service was just right; prompt and attentive but respectful of our space to enjoy our conversation. The oysters were out of this world. I'm from Maryland and I know what good oysters are. I crave them wickedly every year around now and these oysters saved me a 700 mile trip They're also quite reasonably priced. Highly recommend Pescadero

Yelp
I wish I could give 3.5 stars as the overall experience was very good with a few wrinkles. We had a reservation and were seated right away. The restaurant has a cool vibe with everything in close quarters-- booths and bar in front and tables in back. The service was excellent as was the food and drink. Here are the wrinkles: don't run out of an entree minutes after talking it up (the crusted whitefish) and the place is annoyingly loud-- we had to practically shout to have a conversation at our table. Back to the food-- our party enjoyed the calamari and salads as well as the tuna and cioppino. The backup to the whitefish was fish and chips and it seemed to be a bit of a letdown.

Yelp
If you want pretension, and overpriced food you're at the right place. The seafood tower takes the cake! $30 maybe worth of seafood presented in anything but a "tower". Clip joint extraordinaire. Wait staff is pretty good. Not really worth the 20% of $2-300 however. Some dishes were tasty but weak in portion. Sorry. We were thinking higher thoughts due to reviews we'd seen.

Yelp
Usually when you go to a fish restaurant that says fish restaurant, they don't really mean it. This one does , most of the menu is seafood related even better lots of shellfish options. Outdoor seating is always a plus. The fact that it's packed on a Sunday Morning and no else in this corner tells you something We had the Thai BBQ salmon - excellent twist on salmon. The asian sauce on the frilled seafood skewer tasted "fishy", some more garlic maybe? Why 5 stars, the prices are fair, at least compared to trendy places in Chicago. Our server Justin was super chill, located in downtown Wilmette's restaurant corner- what's not to like?

Yelp
Had brunch here recently and based on how good our brunch was, we will definitely be back for dinner. We made a reservation and were promptly seated in the front of the restaurant. Our server was attentive and service was excellent. From where I was seated I could see the bartender make my husband's Bloody Mary and my peach flavored Mimosa. The bartender took great care in putting both drinks together. My husband ordered Thai BBQ shrimp with grits and he said it was delicious. I had the Eggs Your Way with the maple sausage links and I was very happy with my choice. The decor of the restaurant has a somewhat nautical theme and was also decorated for the holidays. I liked that the manager came over and introduced himself to check on how our meals were. Prices were reasonable for the quality of the food. Definitely recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
Mix reviews, Food is fresh and cooked well. We ordered fish tacos and salmon teriyaki sandwich. Loved smoked flavor and the garnishing but the tacos needed something more like a Mexican sauce to make it less dry. The teriyaki salmon was real good but again need more sauce. More teriyaki sauce would have been great. Fries were not hot. Drinks were great. I didn't understand at the end of our bill for 3.% plus hospitality fee. And it didn't seemed our server understood. Makes it hard to tip. Great atmosphere.

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal! I loved my clam chowder and was also blown away but the salmon entree--it was literally the best char I've ever tasted on a salmon. My cocktail was also delicious!

Kelly B.

Yelp
Recently visited and sat at the bar. Great bartenders, tasty appetizers/entrees and lively ambiance. Would have given 5 stars had they not imposed the insulting 3 percent "service fee" on top of already significant menu pricing. Hurts the servers tip in the end - and leaves a bad impression with diners.

Yelp
Stopped in for a late brunch on St. Patrick's day and had the clam chowder, oysters, and chilaquiles. The food was really tasty and we had a nice selection of boozy drinks. Ambiance was pleasant and service was prompt.

Yelp
They indeed have a nice menu and everything was delicious!! Even the service was good. However, they were crazy expensive. So if you plan to go here, be ready for the prices.

Yelp
First of all, I really enjoyed my many visits to Pescadero in the past; the waitstaff was always wonderful! But leadership is a different story. I want to support local businesses, but after a contentious and dishonest experience with my credit card being charged without consent last December and over $500 worth of accrued points (to apply to my bill) disappearing, I lost faith in ever returning and haven't since "the incident" in December 2023. The COO "attempted" to rectify the situation, but I continue having issues with other credit cards being attached to my account and points being used even though I have not stepped foot in their establishments! And the person who has attempted to "fix" things continues to take zero accountability for his questionable business practices. In fact, after I complained about the latest round of unethical business practices, his emailed response started with, "I am not trying to have a pissing match with you here." Leadership blames patrons for unknowingly accessing other people's points to pay for their meals. I received an email that said, "If you have split a bill with these people in the past, they are opting to use your rewards account rather than creating their own." This insinuates that my friends, whom I have previously dined with at Pescadero, are knowingly cashing in on my points (a.k.a. stealing from me). It is unethical and simply not how we treat each other. The error lies with Pescadero, and yet, after all of the complaints and attempts to make things good, he ultimately allows the behavior to continue without an apology or admission of wrongdoing on his part. It has been over a month since he assured me that he would investigate the latest privacy violation, which he now blames on a third-party app (which I love and have never had problems with other establishments that use it). I hope this review prompts him to follow up...and possibly even take accountability.

Yelp
We made our way to Pescardero for Chicago Restaurant Week. Downtown Wilmette has become quite the dining scene so finding parking was difficult until we remembered that the Metra station has free evening parking. The restaurant was a short walk from the station. When we arrived we noticed the restaurant was small but we quickly discovered they have a back room which is where we sat. It was the right level of cozy and it was easy to carry a conversation. We selected the 4-course restaurant week dinner menu. I chose the oyster on the half shell appetizer, the Cesar salad, the cippinno, and the mocha cheesecake. All of it was delicious. The appetizer was severed on a plate of ice with lemon and four toppers - seafood sauce, horseradish, a vinegar type sauce and hot sauce (which came in a mini Tabasco bottle). It was impressive given this was part of a pre fixe menu that cost $59 and still had three more courses to come. The cippinno was full of shrimp, small octopus, and mussels. The broth was really good but I ran out of the crusty bread that came with the dish. For $1 I was given an additional serving of the warm bread with butter. In addition to the food I started with a drink called the Sea Trawler. It was a mezcal drink that went nicely with my appetizer. Overall we enjoyed our experience and will back for a future date night or special occasion.

Yelp
What a great experience. I loved the oysters, appetizers, entrees, and desserts! Our server Justin was both attentive and left us alone to socialize and mingle. I recommend the sea scallops with a cocktail!

Yelp
I have eaten at Pescadero on multiple occasions and each time the service and food are spectacular. I particularly enjoy when they host special dinners. For instance, last night, they hosted their first Double Clutch Brewery + Pescadero beer pairing dinner and it was incredible! The care for authenticity and passion of both the chef and the award-winning Master Brewer for their crafts really made it special. The chef even contacted the oldest brewery in Germany that is famous for their Rauchbier to inquire about their famous blue sausage. In the end, the German brewery's chef gave Pescadero's chef the recipe, making us feel transported to Germany! I'm also quite picky about seafood and theirs always tastes fresh and high quality. The staff is very friendly and attentive as well. When entering, it feels warm, welcoming and intimate. I would highly recommend visiting!

David B.

Yelp
Good food and environment. Staff went above and beyond on a crowded Saturday night. I recommend a visit.

Yelp
Nice looking restaurant at the main corner of downtown Wilmette. We got seated quickly at a high top and the server was prompt and very nice. We didn't order a huge meal, split a chopped salad, my boss ordered the bourbon salmon and I ordered the fish tacos. The salad was ok, but needed to ask for salt and pepper to be brought to the table. It made a big difference. My boss's salmon was actually well cooked and tasty. My fish tacos were not great, super dry and really lacked on the aioli. The corn tortillas were over grilled as well. Think the dish would have been better if flour tortillas were an option. For some reason, no one came by to refill our water. Other tables had a water on their tables so I needed to ask for the same. After the salad we waited for our meals that didn't come while other tables that came in after us got their meals. Not a great dinning experience for two when the bill came to nearly $100. If the server hadn't been so nice, I'd give two stars vice three. Won't go back.

Victor V.

Yelp
When you meet your girl at a restaurant that neither of you had tried, you should always arrive 15 min earlier, introduce yourself to a Metre'D, study the menu and then go outside to meet her. Then , in a good restaurant, when you reenter with her, they will greet you by your name and instantly establish the air of congeniality. That's what happens in Pescadero. The staff is it's best feature! And the food is fresh and reasonably priced. And the location is superb. I only wish their oysters, delightful as they are, were bigger!

Gregory H.

Yelp
Outstanding dinner, atmosphere and service! Our server was friendly & attentive. She selected a nice wine for us that complimented our meal. We would definitely come back again.

Yelp
Great food, ambiance and service! We had the oysters, fish tacos, Parmesan crusted whitefish and ahi Tuna. Everything was amazing

Yelp
Try the Brussels sprout chips. They keep me coming back. Always a great dinner. Good wine and cocktails. I haven't tried brunch yet. The service is excellent. They'll bring you a sample of the wine if you're not sure what you want. Sitting outside does require sunglasses in the evening.

ChiTown S.

Yelp
The food is good & a great place to sit outside, but they are stingy with the food for the price. I ordered a salad and added salmon on top. This is how much I got. I commented to our lovely waiter to mention to the owner. I went back two weeks later & the same happened. I won't be ordering this again. What a rip off.
google avatar

Kristy Y.

Yelp
First timer! The food was very good. I will for sure come back. From the brunch menu, I ordered the Wood Grilled Seafood Skewer for $23. My son ordered the Thai BBQ Shrimp n' Sweet Potato Grits for $18. Service was great. Ask for Michael! He was attentive and personable (yet not overly attentive). There is indoor/outdoor seating. Inside there are high and normal tables. I went on a Sunday around noon or so. And the outside tables were pretty-much all occupied. I sat inside though away from the heat. Again I'll definitely be returning!

Yelp
Frose! Yum! Great start. Had a Caesar salad with sesame crusted ahi tuna. All GF. Great job Pescadero!

Yelp
Went for restaurant week and did the four course meals. Had the Gael storm which was a fun blue color but very sweet and lady Lydia which was fresh and lemony. Did calamari and oysters for appetizers both were good. We loved the added peepers to lighten up the calamari and the mini tobacco sauce with the oysters. Wedge and Caesar salad next both were standard nothing exciting. For main course cioppino and salmon both were delicious. Cioppino had a nice jambalaya flavor sauce. The salmon had a sweeter flavor but was very tasty. The cappuccino cheesecake was preferred over the key lime pie which we didn't love the crust on. Overall good portion sizes for restaurant week in order to sample a variety of the menu. Will have to be back to try some of the other menu items.
google avatar

Roxanne H.

Yelp
Have you ever had clam chowder? Well you have never had clam chowder like this! It's home made and it's amazing if you are a clam chowder lover you will love this chowder but get the bowl because the cup is just not enough! Then the mussels are so delicious you will want to drink the broth as a soup this place is a ++ for seafood and hospitality and soaking your bread is a must so delicious

Sydney N.

Yelp
Great spot! Love the seafood & drinks. Super fun for family dinners or date nights. Will be returning!

Tiff R.

Yelp
Had dinner there a few months back. We made a reservation and were seated right away. While the entrees (cornflake and almond crusted white fish, fish & chip, and the scallops) were decent, the service was not great, and the amount of seafood they put on the seafood tower was abysmal and not worth the price. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience.

Yelp
Came here for the first time on a Monday evening and luckily we made reservations ahead of time because this place is definitely a popular spot. The entire indoor area as well as the outdoor seating was completely full at some point during the course of our meal. Parking here is at least a block or so away but luckily in this downtown Wilmette area even though all the restaurants are highly concentrated in this one particular space there is parking available. We came here to celebrate a birthday and due to a recommendation from a friend who loves this place. So we had high expectations. The menu had some great choices diverse and some traditional and some with a modern take which is great to see. Also good to see some selection for a raw bar as well. In general though the portions are quite small considering the pricing. While I realize that this is the north shore and Wilmette is part of it there is so much competition nearby that I expected a little more food on the plate. Further the lobster sliders wild very sweet and which is fine the bread was not toasted. For six dollars per slider that is a little pricey. The bowl of chowder is definitely not a bowl it is a cup. I expected more octopus from the appetizer however there was a lot more greens and potatoes on the plate. The muscles were plenty and presented incredibly well however the broth was super salty. The scallops represented very well and tasted incredible. However it was disappointing if you look in the pictures to notice that the lower left-hand scallop was actually only half and paired with a mismatch in half. Again for the price point you expect better scallops. Our waiter was super nice and patient and friendly. No complaints about him however the other supporting staff left much to be desired. For example as plates were being brought to our table no one was clearing out the other plates. The tables here are not that large therefore table real estate is a premium. After ordering two appetizers a soup and three entrées as well as a couple glasses of wine we were definitely stuffed and full unfortunately we did not get to desert. Considering the local competition for seafood restaurants it is challenging for me to say that I would choose to return. However I am glad to say that I did try it and they do have some strong points. I look forward to them continually growing and evolving.

Yelp
Pescadero is one of my favorites in Wilmette. Between them and Napolita, you don't need to go any farther! Parking is easy in the public lot across the street. Started my meal the other day with an Espresso Martini - with FRESH espresso. From the bar you can see the wood fired grill and most of the kitchen which adds too the ambiance. Nothing better than knowing your seafood is prepared fresh and made to order. I'll be back in the summer to enjoy the patio!

Yelp
I'm a big fan of restaurant week and we went here last year so I was excited to come back. We checked out the menu online and although brunch started at 10:00 am, we decided to arrive at 11:00. Sunny Sunday drive from Skokie to Wilmette: 20 minutes. We walk into an empty place and the waitress states that they open at 11:30 am. That's odd because their menu and website states 10:00 am. But that's alright, we decided to go to CVS and come back. FYI - I scored big on wine at CVS but that's a different review. Back at Pescadero at around 11:30, we walk in and would like a table inside but we're asked if we had reservations. Maybe y'all could have asked us when we walked in here at 11:00? Anyway, we're told - "ok, you can have this table but you have to be done by 12:45 pm." I thought - let's do it because I want to eat quick so I can catch the ending of Loyola vs Illinois. 45 minutes later - 4 oysters and the Brussels chips come out. At 12:45 - our hamburger and crab cake eggs Benedict finally come out. We ended up asking for our desserts and check as we were eating our main courses. Although they were very apologetic and we got a discount on our meal, I couldn't help but notice that the people around us, who came after us - got their food before us. And when we walked outside, it seemed like every table had been served. By the time we were in the car - we learned that the game was over and Loyola dominated Illinois, that made the drive home a little nicer. We should of just invited ourselves over to Porter Moser's house - in Wilmette.

Yelp
I've taken two trips to Pescadero, sis and I first visit, then brought my mom back again to spoil us! This was a few months ago so we were able to sit on the patio. We decided on ordering shareables a which turned out to be a great idea! East Coast Oysters, Rhode Island Calamari, Seafood Ceviche, Charred Octopus & the Pasta Del Mar we're nothing short of AMAZING.

Rob A.

Yelp
While the people were very nice and the beverages were fine, the food was possibly the worst we've ever had. We went as a party of 6 a few months back and 2 of us said the food was ok and 4 thought it was terrible. The bread used on the lobster rolls was very fresh but there was almost no lobster. The tacos I had were inedible....it was like eating cardboard and I actually asked to borrow someones cole slaw to give the stuff some moisture. I would have complained but I was being taken out for my birthday and didn't want to make a scene. With all the great restaurant choices in Wilmette, I have no idea how this place stays in business.
google avatar

Ellen C.

Yelp
So having moved to Wilmette during pandemic times, I haven't dined at Pescadero before, but have ordered out from there several times now. The first couple of times their food has for the most part been consistently delicious, with acceptable portions, considering the hefty price tag that comes with each dish. But the last couple times we've ordered from this place, the portions have gotten measly. One of my favorites there have been the scallop dish that comes with risotto. While previously, the scallops were a good size (think 8-10ct/lb size), and the risotto was enough to fill your tummy with maybe a smidge left over, now the scallops have gotten significantly smaller (think 10-15ct/lb) and the risotto is now about 5 spoonfuls. Their fish and chips are what's winning though, if you're looking for their signature dish. It's a little more affordable, and the fried cod is to die for.

Yelp
I was so excited to try Pescadero- it has been on my list since last year and we finally had the opportunity to dine there. As soon as we were seated the waiter informed us of their policy of wearing a mask whenever interacting with staff. We respected that- but it's a little impossible to do while you are eating. Each time he would come around he would basically dropped the plate and left. The food was not spaced out and there was no room on our tiny table. The plates were basically laying on top of us. We ordered oysters (they were great), calamari( it was good), Brussels sprout salad (it was great), seafood tower (we got 2 shrimps and 2 scallops), fish tacos (they were cold and tasteless), sea bass (way too salty), steak( ordered medium and it came well done), and fries. Our experience was not what I expected. From the service to the food. We have no intentions of coming back.
google avatar

Bradley P.

Yelp
Pescadero is another example of a former go-to restaurant that fallen short of expectations our past two visits. Food is average, brunch was a waste of money and not much better than what you'd find at Dennys but 5x the price. Wait staff is uninspired + there's a 2.5% up charge for staff benefits, I'd have no issues paying this if the staff gave a s&&t. Unfortunately, there's a trend with restaurants these days, jack the price up, while quality and quantity falls and let's hope that diners continue to come back. When the restaurant closes down blame it on the rising costs and economy.

Yelp
The Thai BBQ wild salmon avocado BLT blew me away! I thought that a sandwich might travel better for takeout than a seafood entree, but was not expecting the mouth-watering interplay of flavors and textures contained within this "BLT." It's the best sandwich of any kind that I have had in years. I sneaked a few bites of my kids' fish and chips which were also quite good despite the time and distance from the kitchen. If the takeout is this good, I really hope to dine in someday, after...well, you know, someday anyway.

Yelp
Ambience is great. Food is mostly really tasty. Service is incredibly lackluster and doesn't match the atmosphere or prices in any shape or form. I have heard the same complaint from many.... They have some work to do. With so few solid choices in wilmette, I'm sure it's why they haven't had to change much to stay competitive but I don't foresee that logic staying in 2024 with more options coming.

Yelp
Had a great experience! Had dinner at around 5 so it wasn't too busy. Our server was great! She was knowledgeable about the menu and gave us some great suggestions. We got the Ceviche, Oysters (amazing), Cioppino, and Chilean Seabass. All of the food tasted fresh and flavorful. My wife was thoroughly impressed! We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Ate here for my first time last night (12/10/2023). I've lived here in Chicago for 29 years and I've eaten in some of the nicest restaurants all over the US and Canada (I'm 58 years old) and I'm not easily disappointed. However last night was a totally let down except for the young Hostess who was fabulous and my Waiter who was equally fabulous. I ordered Bourbon Glazed Plank Salmon with 2 sides and a glass of Pinot Grigio. The wine was very good and the food was considerably well-prepared and impressively flavorful. But the quantity was a mockery and an insult to my intelligence. They brought me a very small quarter pound salmon filet on this huge plank of wood and then a couple of tablespoon of the side vegetables in these tiny little jars that looked like they were made for spices, not meal portions! I felt like I was "sampling" or taste-testing. I came to EAT! I came for an actual MEAL and instead, I was "allowed to nibble and sample." I was so tempted to just walk out. When I got the bill, it was over $50. I tipped the Waiter because he did a fabulous job which totaled me out to over $60........to "nibble and sample?????" If that wasn't bad enough, I kept having to swat a couple of gnats or fruit flies that kept landing on my food as I was trying to eat. And then the bus boy walked up and reached for my plate BEFORE I was even finished and while there was visibly still food on my plate. If they had charged me less, I wouldn't have been worried. But for over $60???? Train your bus boy to have some manners!!! The whole thing was an insult to my intelligence! Let me make it glaringly crystal clear, Pescadero, that your food may be good but it ain't that good! Gordan Ramsay does not work there! So stop flattering yourself and STOP RIPPING OFF CUSTOMERS!!!!! If you're going to charge that $50, I want to leave FULL! Since Valley Lodge Tavern across the street is always full and Pescadero is usually not, I suggest that they owners and managers of Pescadero walk over, dine at Valley Lodge pay attention to what they do. Valley Lodge serves fabulous food, they give you fabulous service, they don't have gnats or insect flying around and they serve you large, generous portions and charge far less! Valley Lodge makes you feel like family...........you should try it!

Yelp
So glad I finally got here. Lovely indoor and outdoor space. Fantastic menu with options for all, great bar. Very fine waiter. Nice food presentation. The cauliflower ceviche, which appealed to me because I don't eat shellfish and thought this was interesting, was not bad but rather lackluster though the chips were good. The fish tacos and elotes were both excellent. Can't wait to try other menu items.

Yelp
The experience here was more than lackluster. Initially, our waiter didn't have a good grasp on the menu whatsoever. He also walked away from us while we were giving our food order and served others. The drinks were tasteless and the food was even worse. We ordered a lobster roll, which was cold, and also a thai bbq salmon BLT, which was pretty burnt. Also the fries were literally terrible, you could get better fries at McDonalds. The waiter did not check in on us once throughout the dinner. Would recommend going anywhere else besides this overpriced bland place.

Yelp
Inconsistent food. Been there maybe 5 or 6 times over the past year. They push the specials really hard. Small portions too. Last week we had a reservation for 7:30 and asked to sit outside on a beautiful night. Party of 6. Many tables open. The owner overruled the greeter and told her we had to sit inside. There were tables occupied outside the entire time we were there. Also open tables for 6 were available the entire time we were there. Apparently customer satisfaction is not a priority despite our pleas. Won't be back. Many other choices within a few blocks. Bye forever.

Yelp
Great Place and Comfortable Atmosphere! Ordered: Oysters - awesome Shrimp cocktail - not your typical shrimp cocktail, shrimp was grilled but still super good Crab - great, but would prefer to try something else for the price Mac and Cheese - sooo good Calamari - delicious They have daily slushy specials - apple Jack Daniels typically I wouldn't order a drink like this but it was GREAT!
