We had another delightful dinner at one of our neighborhood favorites. We went early on a Thursday night and avoided the crowds. The food was great and the service perfect. Sorry I didn't get a picture of the tiramisu, but that was a wonderful way to top off the meal.

Google
Well prepared excellent Italian food including some homemade pastas. The atmosphere leaves a bit to desire but I go here because of the excellent food. The veal is amazing, gnocchi is great, specials are always very good. I get take out from here ALL THE TIME & when I want something far above average (most delivery is...). Definitely check it out !

Google
If this review was based strictly on the food I would’ve given it 4 stars. It was tasty (expect the previously frozen calamari). The service wasn’t great, in my opinion you should never have to ask for water. The atmosphere left something to be desired as well. This place needs a facelift! It was pretty empty and it was a Friday night at 7:15...

Google
Pleasant local atmosphere. Had a seafood pasta for $29. 2 shrimp, 2 scallops and a lobster tail. Told waiter I was displeased . He supposedly told the owner. No one responded for 15 minutes, we finished eating . He said he told the owner 4 times. Obviously not much interest on the owner's part. No need to return.

Google
Customer service was outstanding, I was there with two of my friends on a late night Friday. The food was very tasty and well made. The only reason I'm noy giving a 5 star rating it's because they lack knowledge and clear options on vegan dishes, I first introduced myself saying "I'm vegan so I don't consume animals at all" the lady offered me Fish then cheese, so it got me worried on how good they would care for my vegan entree.

Google
Pescatore is a great little hidden gem, great food everything I have tried has been good. Fast friendly service, never busy, outdoor patio, perfect portion size. Only complaint is pricing seems a little high, but is probably fair, I'm just cheap!

Michael Browne

Google
It's a small neighborhood restaurant that specializes in Italian seafood (in case you couldn't tell by the name), but still has plenty of more 'land based' options. While probably the fanciest restaurant in the neighborhood, you don't really need to get dressed up for it. They also do take out, but do not do delivery. Good place for a quiet date, as long as you don't try to go during the rush on a holiday that typically sees a lot of dinner reservations.

John Olson

Google
Pescatore is a local gem. I had the chicken marsala, and my husband, grilled steak tips. Both dishes were perfect: tender and flavourful, with beautifully prepared sides.the steak was rare but with a satisfying char; the marsala sauce was nicely balanced between the sweet wine and the meaty mushrooms. Bread was served with pesto-infused olive oil, which was so delicious we could have made a meal if that.

Yelp
OMG, the Detroit pizza!! While I haven't had much of this style of pizza, I do know that this my favorite one so far! My husband and I were visiting friends in the area when they ordered take out from here which included 2 Detroit style pizzas (mushroom & pepperoni), fries and onion dip with chips. Everything was fantastic! The pizza was light, airy and flavorful. I feel like I could have eaten 100 slices! It was not heavy at all like most of the other Detroit pizza I've had. The fries & onion dip were also both better than expected. I would definitely recommend checking out the pizza; I already want to go back and get more!

Kiran V.

Yelp
Came here for a Monday night dinner with a friend. The restaurant space is kind of small but for a weeknight evening it was easy to be seated quickly. The fries were super crispy and well seasoned as was my chicken sandwich. A good stop for a weeknight bite!

Meg C.

Yelp
Tried brunch here on St. Paddy's and the corned beef hash bennie was solid. I liked that it came in a little skillet to keep the hash warm. The english muffin was perfectly toasted and the home fries were really tasty and well seasoned - they were more like fries since they were fried, but I prefer these over the griddled mash potatoes that are popular in the ball square area. I had a cucumber bloody mary that was okay, but it's not something I'd get again, as the mix was kind of bland and lacked depth. Service was good, but it required more prompting than I expected for sitting at the bar. Would likely return again to try their detroit style pizza.

Yelp
I love thiccc bread and cheese, so coming here was a no brainer. Detroit style pizza may be my new love. All the staff here is so nice, and the patio was super cute! We got two small pizzas and that was more than enough for the two of us. They were a little heavy handed on the ranch for the chicken and ranch pizza, but other than that, perfection!! It had the perfect texture (crispy on the outside, soft and bready on the inside). I don't know how well this could travel to be honest, so worth taking the trip here to try out the pizzas!

Angel P.

Yelp
A small restaurant in Ball square that serves Detroit style pizza. It was quite packed on a Monday night. I've never had Detroit style pizza and it was pretty good. The pizzas came out hot and delicious. The regular/personal pizza is a great size for 1-2 people. I would recommend the pizzas and the togarashi fries. The fries had a nice spicy kick to them. I got the "utica" chicken riggies which was decent, and a great portion. They have a Monday special of unlimited toppings on a regular pizza, and different specials every day. Service was good. There's street parking: two hour parking and metered parking (watch the signs as some spots are permit parking only).

Leslie C.

Yelp
Came here with 8 people. Ambiance was lovely and the service was good. Unfortunately the food was rather disappointing. I ordered the caeser salad and the chicken wings well done. The salad was ok but the wings were bland and not at all well done. They were just boring! One of the women ordered the fried chicken sandwich. It looked good but when I tasted it I was quite disappointed-again very under seasoned.

Dody E.

Yelp
Ladies and gentlemen, I have found the best pizza in Boston. Do not hesitate to go here. Really good detroit style and awesome staff. You can tell they care about pizza. The vibe is real. Go. Now.

Troy E.

Yelp
Once again, thank you Yelpers!! Great food and great service are a winning combination and Avenue Kitchen and Bar have it. Checkout the menu and if you see something you like, bet it will be good. We had basic eats, queso and pizza but lordt, that queso was good. Who loves Detroit style pizza? This guy, that's who. The Reg pep was perfect: crispy crust, great sauce, yum. I recommend patio seating if the weather permits. Cozy and comfortable. Not much else to be said. Great joint.

Yelp
A hidden gem in Ball Square! When we arrived at the restaurant during prime weekend brunch hours, we got a little worried when it was nearly empty (especially when the diner next door had lines out the door...) But luckily, we were blown away by the quality and taste of the food! This place is apparently known for their Detroit Style Pizza, which is a more doughy, almost bread-like rectangular version of pizza. We tried the Chef's Choice which was tasty! The small size is 4 slices, but could easily feed more than 4 people. What they should really be known for though, is their home fries! The seasoning reminded of KFC's (now extinct) potatoes wedges. The fries were perfectly crisp! I could have eaten an entire plate of it! Their fried chicken was also standout! I tried the Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict which was really tasty, albeit very heavy. It was smothered in a creamy, gravy sauce, served on warm biscuits. The Power Bowl was nutritious yet filling and also delicious! Good if you're looking for a brunch dish without the post-meal food coma. The buffalo wings were nothing to write home about, but nonetheless solid. They also has a pretty extensive cocktail drink menu. However, their normal tea and coffee options were more limited. Service was decent and the ambiance was "trying too hard." I'd definitely come back for more of the food!

Tee T.

Yelp
OFF THE HOOK! Forget about North End. Go to Somerville for some AMAZING Detroit style pizza. So full of flavor. The Chefs Choice is the perfect blend of mozzarella, dans of ricotta, savory sauce, pepperoni and sausage. We opted out of the broc rabe, but after tasting it, I'm sure it would've added a nice accompaniment. Try the Wings. So flavorful, not too Spicy and just the right amount of crispy. The simple salad was light and crispy, dressing just right amount. Simple but tasty for sure. And last but not least, our server was just the right amount of everything nice. So pleasant, friendly and on top of everything we needed to make our experience great. Thanks Avenue Kitchen. Keep doing what you're doing. Street parking Lovely atmosphere Clean and well done Nice selection of beer and wine

Kitty S.

Yelp
Best tasting pizza sauce and pizza. I'm a pizza lover and I love their Detroit style pizza squares. Service is always excellent and it's a really cozy and quieter but still trendy spot to dine and enjoy any day of the week.

Chris B.

Yelp
Reintroduced me to Detroit style pizza and I'm so happy for it! Love this local place. Great food outside the pizza, but always a go to for me!

Holly W.

Yelp
Saturday afetrnoon, wanted better food than around Fenway before our Fenway concert. We had a 12 year old boy who is a little picky so this restaurant fit the bill. Had some American fare but also some interesting items to choose from. We pulled up around 4:30 on a Saturday afternoon and pulled right into a spot out front (metered- quarters only.) Walked in and immediately was seated. It has a New Orleans vibe on the inside- just how the wall art work is like light fixtures. The 2 kids split a small pizza- two slices each. Detroit style. Thick and saucy. Sorry they were out of pepperoni! I had a bite of my daughters. I liked the crispy crust but the sauce was a little sweet for my lining. I had a watermelon sangria. Lite drink, not too boozy. My friend had a mule and she said it was very strong. She had a burger and said it was delicious. I had the burrata. This is my second recent burrata experience and I can say it was interesting with the quinoa. It was delicious all mixed together but I did ask for more balsamic. It was served with a large piece of buttery garlic toast which was super tasty! Why not 5 stars? Our waiter was way too into his phone - not very charismatic or attentive and the pizza sauce could be better.

Julia E.

Yelp
The food and service are wonderful here! They also have great specials almost everyday. The outside patio is so nice when it's warm out.

Isha R.

Yelp
Really appreciate the extensive plant based selection on their menu for vegetarians and vegans! Finding vegan wings at restaurants is rare for me and their seitan wings did not disappoint! It has an in-house "tequila sauce" lathered all over which is sweet and spicy. Asked for ranch on the side and it tasted perfect! Loved the southwestern salad as well. Cocktails were ok. Pricing was very reasonable. Overall nice local spot for a date night or evening with friends/family. Came here on a Friday evening without a reservation and it was packed - luckily found two seats on the patio and were seated right away. Great service overall!

Wes S.

Yelp
Fancy little pizza place. Great pie. Sicilian/Detroit style pizza. Great ingredients. Sausage pepper onion was pretty good, but their pepperoni was a great choice! A bit pricey, but restarting rent ain't cheap. Wouldn't be a regular Thursday lunch spot but a nice out of the blue choice for a little different pizza meal to split.

Yelp
We found Avenue by accident and cannot go back to the life without it ever since! No matter it's after a tough day of hiking, or hosting friends and families from the Pizza city (they request Avenue every time!), or it's simply a night craving Detroit style pizza, Avenue Kitchen is our go to place in the area. In the past few years, we have ordered from here numerous times and tried different appetizers / salads to go with the pizza. They're all great but nothing can take away the spotlight from the Detroit style pizza - the crust is crunchy and slightly burnt, the tomato sauce is not too sweet nor sour, and the whole pizza makes a great presentation of flavors. Best Detroit style pizza in the greater Boston area! Talking about best pizza in general in the area? It's up there! Highly recommend!

Suuba D.

Yelp
I tried Avenue Kitchen + Bar with a group of friends. The ambiance is dark but warm. Our waiter was very attentive and the staff adjusted for all our menu requests. The menu is a little small, and simple but the food was flavorful and met our expectations. The desserts were very nice! We could come back!

Brandon M.

Yelp
Awesome neighborhood restaurant!!!! It's a cool atmosphere. Great for food and drink I bring my family in all the time.

Chuck I.

Yelp
Detroit style pizza and Burgers are awesome. Great bar And Drinks Outdoor patio Chuck and Denise

Rob K.

Yelp
Good food, solid menu, plenty of drink options. Perfect for a quick bite or to hang out for a while

Courtney S.

Yelp
an amazing spot to grab food. Their pizza is a favorite and top tier. This is the first place I think of when people are in town to visit. Avenue is very accommodating with making reservations and they have a great bar as well. Their espresso martinis are also a must when going. 10/12 recommend this place it never misses

Steven K.

Yelp
I came for the pizza and it did not disappoint. I ordered at the bar which was nice with good service. A beer later, I walked out with a couple pizzas which everyone enjoyed.

Jordan K.

Yelp
Fantastic Detroit style Pizza. I can honestly say this is my favorite place to get pizza in all of Boston (Somerville). The atmosphere is upbeat but not too loud or crowded, and the wait staff and bartenders are always friendly.

Rhys G.

Yelp
This place was excellent. I ordered the chicken grilled cheese which was made with pimento cheese. It was unlike any other grilled cheese I've had. Since pimento isn't really a stretchy cheese, it was less of a stretchy experience. It was a really stuffed sandwich and very filling. Decently spicy, and a refreshing take on the grilled cheese. I ordered it with a caesar salad (which came with tomatoes, which actually wasn't as strange as I thought) and it was pretty decent. Wasn't extraordinary thought. And I ordered a cheese pizza as well. It was a pan pizza so it was thicker and more filling than other kinds. Very tasty but wasn't superb. But I'd like to try one with more toppings next time. The service was fast and the server was kind. Also the ambience was nice and fairy dim. I would love to sit in the back area sometime which looked like it was outside. Will be back to try something new!

Yelp
I finally checked out Avenue Kitchen + Bar, and am very pleased to report that it was an awesome experience. We were looking for a place to go for our anniversary that was casual but that had a great selection of cocktails and food - and Avenue Kitchen met all the necessary criteria. This is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it spot not too far from Ball Square, but it's pretty easy to get to and there was ample metered parking when we were there (early on a Saturday night). We made a reservation just to be safe, but the place wasn't too busy (5 PM on a Saturday night) - when I've walked by later on other nights though, they do have a decent crowd, so reservations probably are a good idea. I got a cocktail whose name I forget (and it doesn't seem to be on their online menu) but it was fruity and had aperol and was WONDERFUL and beautiful. For an appetizer, we split the maple chili duck wings, and I would definitely get these again! The order came with 6, and had a terrific sauce (a little sticky / messy, but that's the price of deliciousness!). Way better than chicken wings - I'm already craving more. For our main course, we debated between going with steak or chicken or one of the other entrees... but at the end of the day, we just couldn't resist getting the pizza (it's what their known for, after all). We got a large pizza, half 'The Reg' and half with pepperoni added, and it was so so good! Deep dish pizza can be hit or miss for me, but this one was definitely a hit. And this stuff fills you up - even splitting a large between the two of us, we had half the pizza left over! The pizza paired perfectly with the Maine Dinner DIPA, one of my favorite New England beers. When we did the math, this actually came out to a relatively good value dinner, considering that we had a good amount of leftovers. The atmosphere was nice, but not overly stuffy or fancy, which was exactly what we were going for. This could become a regular spot for us - really glad we came!

Dennis B.

Yelp
Absolutely outstanding! Ordered the Monday Sing special which came with super fresh celery and house ranch. Also got the Chef Special pizza and a Southwest Salad. All were delicious and delivered hot. Love this place!!

Ken D.

Yelp
I went here on my way to the airport on a Monday evening. The dining room was quiet and there were just a couple of other groups. The menu has a decent amount of options and the servers and staff are very friendly. I just wanted a good burger before I left. Which there is one choice. I ordered it and it came out fairly quickly. Overall the meal was good. I got the house salad which was good and simple. The burger elements worked pretty well. I was just not too pleased with the flavor of the patty. It felt a little bland, which was a little disappointing. I tried a few fries from my friend's plate and they were quite good. Overall it's a nice neighborhood restaurant to go to if you live in the area and want something more than cafe food. The portions are decent and the food is satisfying.

Inara M.

Yelp
A colleague brought me here because of some of the hype and that they have Detroit style pizza. I have to say the pizza was a 10 out of 10, amazing stuff. On a Tuesday the bar was packed, but there were a few tables available, seems it's a favorite of locals. The establishment itself had a comfy vibe, staff was gracious, honest and quite helpful. Would def recommend to anyone looking for a pizza and have not tried...

Sarah B.

Yelp
I could not have been more pleasantly surprised by this place. I'm not sure how new it is, but I've lived in the area for eight years and never gave this place a second thought until several friends recommended it to me. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't let that fool you! The vibe is hometown, and the food is excellent! We had the chef's special pizza, Detroit style, and the salmon - miso-carrot sauce and brussel-quinoa hash. Both were top notch. They had a great salad selection (and beer), and I can't wait to come back and try the chicken riggies! The servers were also very friendly and helpful.

Kylie D.

Yelp
great deep dish pizza in the area and it's open relatively later than the other pizza joints, the pick up counter service has been solid every time: 4/5 bc we had an order mishap with the toppings but it happens

megan b.

Yelp
I got take out for the first time and will be returning soon! The cajun tofu broccoli rice was absolutely delicious perfectly sauced/cooked. The pizza was super yummy too with tons of cheese and perfect flaky crust. It had a great garlic taste too. Loved the Detroit style which I had never tried. So many options for vegans! Cannot wait to try more!

John L.

Yelp
A "no miss" place. All dishes were great - no "misses". The pizza was excellent. We ordered a version of their "chef's choice" - pepperoni, sausage, broccoli rabe, and mushrooms. Chewy crust, nice red sauce, lots of delicious mozzarella cheese. Only minor complaint was wishing there were more of the delicious toppings. The burger and chicken sandwich was perfectly cooked, tasty and juicy. The buffalo wings had a nice tang and heat level - very, very good. Owners / chef are from upstate NY, so they know buffalo wings. Beet salad was nicely dressed and paired with our dishes. Ended with skillet cookie topped with huge scoop of vanilla gelato! Highly recommend. We will definitely be back!

Vijay N.

Yelp
This place is the best - and living less than 5 minutes away from here was dangerous The Avenue was probably my favorite pizza spot in the Medford/Somerville area when I lived there during the pandemic. I'm a huge fan of thick crust pizza, and this place knocks detroit style pizza out of the park. The times I went my usual pies were the Reg, The Barbacoa and the Mushroom Rabe and every time I went I was always incredibly satisfied. Their other items like the duck-wings and togarashi fries are solid. Also, the beer and drink selection here was impeccable. Any time I had guests over/ visiting, we had to make a stop by here. Looking forward to swinging by during my next trip to the East Coast - definitely miss this spot

Judith L.

Yelp
Avenue Restaurant is a local gem with a menu that combines elevated dishes with beloved classics. Every bite is delicious, and the service is consistently excellent. Plus, they serve the best espresso martini in town! Don't miss their exceptional Sunday brunch for a perfect start to your day. Highly recommended!

Jenna P.

Yelp
This has been one of my favorite spots to go to in my neighborhood since late 2019. It's consistently easy to get a reservation or a table even when it's somewhat busy. The food is always consistently delicious - everything I've had has been so so good. They have vegetarian and vegan options and are good about modifications on any dish if you need any. They rotate items on the menu per season and have specials on most days. Their Detroit style pizza is the best ever - it has become one of my favorite pizzas around. Their cocktails are great, especially the espresso martini - one of the best I've had and comes with a nice frothy top. The service is always great, the staff is super friendly and they work very hard. Please give this place your money - we need more places like this around!

Al M.

Yelp
Comfortable, helpful staff, and good food! How could one not like this classy little restaurant Just on the edge of Ball Sq?

Fakhteh S.

Yelp
Decent espresso martinis Their kitchen was closed due to a hood problem so we could only try salads; the one we got was delicious!

Ken C.

Yelp
5 star pizza from a new yorker As a new yorker, I really wanted to not like this place but I ended up really digging it. Admittedly, I have never had detroit style pizza so I have no standard of comparison. I was intrigued by the concept so a couple of friends and I figured we would try it out. For 4 people, we opened with the steak and cheese wontons and got a large chef's choice and a small chicken bacon ranch pizza. Steak and cheese wontons were exactly what they sound like - very akin to crab rangoons. The pizza was bomb. It tasted very similar to a Sicilian slice but with a crispier, buttery bottom (very reminiscent of pizza hut). Of the two, I liked the chef's choice better, but both were good. The pepperoni slices were nice and thick and the the red sauce was super tangy, just the way I like it. The chicken bacon ranch was good too but I am not a huge fan of pizza without tomato sauce (is it even pizza?). Overall, lovely first detroit pizza experience - will be coming back. Tip: The slices are deceptively large despite not looking so. This is because it is quite thick. I felt very satisfied eating 2 slices. I probably could have squeezed a third but didn't feel so inclined. I think 1 large pizza is enough for 3-4 people, especially if you are ordering other appetizers.

Bailee P.

Yelp
Came here with my parents last night and it was just what we were looking for! The pizza was so good but the salads were delicious! The staff was so friendly and the drinks were cold and yummy!

Stacey H.

Yelp
This is my local go to restaurant. Their Detroit style pizzas are excellent, and other items are well crafted too. Such a great little neighborhood joint.

Dr. Jessie K.

Yelp
I'm a Detroiter born and bread and I love my Detroit Style Pizza...so...I am visiting Boston and decided to see if I could find authentic Detroit Style Pizza. Now I found quite a few places that "claim" to have Detroit Style Pizza but after viewing the pictures online I knew immediately they were frauds ... until ... I came across Avenue Kitchen & Bar!! I looked at the pictures online and had a good feeling that this place might be legit. Well, I was correct!!!! This Pizza tastes just like Buddy's and Shield's .... And real Detroiters know that's saying something!! The sauce on top was awesome, the crust was crispy and buttery, and all the toppings were on point!! So....if you are looking for Detroit Style Pizza in the Boston Area - Avenue Kitchen & Bar is the real deal and gets 5 Stars from this Detroiter from the west side "Woodingham and 6 Mile". Gino "the owner" is da man!!!

Jessica J.

Yelp
The atmosphere is super nice and so is the waitstaff. I'd say the food was good but not the best I've ever had. I would definitely go back but maybe try something different on the menu.

Affi s.

Yelp
This is a local hot spot for good food and good service. Truly a neighborhood gem with the best Detroit style pizza in town. Try it.

Erika S.

Yelp
Awesome little spot for brunch! Came here with 2 of my friends on a Sunday. Food and service were great too. We split the French toast which was to die for and got our own plates that we loved. Got the spicy blackberry margarita and it was so refreshing, not too sweet at all. Will definitely be coming back!

Fab G.

Yelp
Horrible customer service. Our waiter charged us for someone else's meal. When the bill came he snatched my credit card from my hand, and when I asked him what was going on he ignored me and gave me no explanation. When he came back he told me that he charged the wrong card. The manager then came and proceeded to DOUBLE CHARGE us! When we pointed out the 2nd mistake, there was no apology. No compensation. He literally told me " just pay your Bill." As a paying customer person, I will never come back to this place.

Vish P.

Yelp
We stopped here on a rainy Saturday night and the place is set up keeping the Covid restrictions in mind. The tables are set far apart and the staff wore masks during the entire stay. This place is known for their Detroit style pizza so if you are not a fan of that style of pizza, I would suggest other items on the menu. We got the chicken ramen to kick off which was pretty much a chicken noodle soup. It was hearty and perfect for the cold weather. We got the mushroom pizza and a pepperoni pizza. I like that this place offers half and full sizes of their pizza. We ended our meal with skillet baked cookie and some vanilla gelato which was amazing! P.S. def get the spicy fries with the lemon truffle dip!

Ian B.

Yelp
This establishment cannot be trusted with allergies. We ordered a gluten free item from the menu, and specified to our server that it was necessary for it to be gluten free. The manager brought over the appetizer and as he was setting it on the table informed us that it had been contaminated in the frier. Since it was no longer gluten free, I informed him of such and to my shock he had the gall to argue that the food was gluten free because it had been made without glutenous ingredients. This reveals that the LEADERS of this establishment do not have allergen training as anyone competent would know that gluten is an allergy and you cannot list something as gluten free on the menu if it is contaminated during preparation, regardless of the ingredients in it. This establishment knowingly lies about allergens on their menu

Pete S.

Yelp
I've been coming to Avenue since the week it opened. As a Ball Square resident, I feel totally lucky to have such a hidden gem right in our neighborhood. The vibe is laid back and friendly. The tunes are always good. All of the food has been delicious, but I always end up with the pizza because it's amazing. The cocktails, both menu ones and requested ones are also always perfect. Can't be beat!

Jessica H.

Yelp
In my book you only deserve 5 stars for service PLUS excellent food. Avenue delivers in both arenas. We would come here even if they ONLY served their Detroit style pizzas. They are so so delicious and you're treated like family when you walk in the door. They have done everything well both pre and post COVID. And if you still aren't dining out, they have also mastered the takeout arena. They have both indoor and outdoor spaces open now. Food quality hasn't suffered one bit. On Wednesdays they have an old school Italian night with excellent classics like eggplant parm. Do yourself a favor and make Avenue part of your regular food rotation!
