On the Grid : Peter and Paul Fortress

"Peter and Paul Fortress - is one of the first citiy constructions. It’s not a medieval-style castle as it might seem from the title. It’s a complex of buildings located on a separate island in the heart of the city and enclosed by a high wall around its perimeter. The fortress was built for defense, but now this territory is very peaceful and cozy, you can even walk on the protective wall and admire the city from a height. The whole area is dotted with paved paths. Countless small museums settled on the both sides of these roads. You can find here one of the famous symbols of St. Petersburg - the Peter and Paul Cathedral. If you go to the fortress over the Kronversky bridge, you'll find a small square, which offers an incredible view of the city - outlook of the whole delta of the Neva river, the arrow of Vasilevsky Island, Palace Bridge and Winter Palace. You can sit for hours on the stone beach, listen to the lapping of the river and enjoy the view." - Molinos

Former site of a fortress built to protect the city from marauding Swedes, it was taken over by Bolshevik rebels.

A very nice place to visit in St Petersburgh. Walking around in the area was pleasant. Very good architecture and very well maintained. It has some park and benches as well if you get exhausted. You can walk up to the waterfront from the courtyard. Beautiful views at the waterfront as well.

The place is big. You can go there via walk from the city center or by taking the city buss tour (4000 rubles) that will take you to 14 locations. Once entered youl have alot of locations to view from and list of museums and attractions to see, the only challenge is most of the museums require tickets to be purchased in advance or through a long wait. But surely a must place to visit

For Russia reviews visit my travel blog: thewanderingmain.in/ What a grand fortress. 2.5 km from Nevsky ave, it is located on an island across Neva River. I walked up to fortress from my hotel at Nevsky avenue and enjoyed the sightseeing all the way to my destiny. You can snack on some ice cream and have beverages. There is a convergence of people every day. You can take tickets to the cathedral which costs about 500 rubles but it is worth spending. Glittering chandeliers and colourful art of the cathedral makes the whole experience exclusive. Usually, it is closed on Thursdays. This place is highly recommended to visit. I give it a thumbs up.

One of the best places to have a glance of night view of St. Petersburg. The shore near to the Fortress looks directly to the main attractions such as Hermitage, St. Isaac, Yusupov Palace and many more. Must visit.
