Best New England Food Gifts 2021 | Eater Boston

"A Western Massachusetts woodworker who salvages fallen and aging local trees (cherry, maple, black walnut) to make striking live-edge bowls and boards, often sold at Boston Public Market; offerings range in size and price from roughly $90 for a 10-inch bowl up to several hundred dollars for jumbo pieces and emphasize natural grain and a rustic, one-of-a-kind presence." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

I could spend hours in the gallery/ store. The bowls and boards are exquisite + fairly priced. I learned so much from the staff. I had a wonderful time. I first discovered Peterman's at the Williamstown Farmers Market Market .

It's always a great experience coming here. Having the highest quality of hand made wooden products. The staff here are very friendly and professional. There is enough parking for the volume of customers they get at once. I am looking forward to going back again soon for more gifts for my friends and family.

Robyn knows everything about the wooden product! What a delight to visit and bought several bowls, board, and specula from Peterson's! The handicrafts are just absolutely beautiful! Perfect for those visiting the Autumn foliage to come by!

Great place for American crafts. This location is the factory store and has some amazing deals. Lovely staff and stunning products. If you’re looking for something to be a stunning masterpiece 5/5. Bonus points if you’ve got a big place and can accommodate one of their massive bowls.

Very impressive woodcraft shop with bowls and cutting boards made from locally grown native hardwoods. Prices might at first seem a little high, but the beauty and quality of the wares should put that concern to rest. Nice stuff, appropriate prices, well worth the stop.

Yelp
I love Peterman's Boards & Bowls! First discovered it 10 or so years ago while driving to visit my husband's parents in the small town of Orange, MA, where he grew up. We drove by and there were literally more than a dozen beautiful wood bowls outside and I had to stop! I buy something every time we go. My most recent purchase was the weekend before Thanksgiving 2023 when I bought a beautiful hand-turned cherry 18" bowl, such a work of art that I bought the artfully-designed metal stand to display it on and of course, some more wood conditioner that I restock every time we go. The woman in the showroom was helpful and patient, even though we came there close to closing time. She packed the bowl (and an amazing 13" oak bowl that I got for free for buying the first one-an incredible deal) so well that I was able to take them on a flight to SW Florida the next day, where the large bowl now looks beautiful displayed in my mom's house. She loves the grain in the oak bowl that I got for free! Highly recommend this stop near the French King Bridge (cool name, stately bridge and a bit of history nearby)!

Yelp
This is one of the few places left in the US that still makes hand-turned wooden bowls. It is family owned and their bowls are made in the barn out back. Everyone is incredibly friendly. It feels so good to support a business like this. I'd been looking for a big wooden salad bowl for a long time. It is so fun to pick out exactly what I wanted. I found their clearance room to be a blast and very affordable.

Yelp
Amazing gem right on RTE 2! The bowls are beautiful, and the people are really sweet. My partner and I spent an hour or so looking at the showroom, and lusting after the gorgeous woodwork, and talking to the artists sister in law. (Who was knowledgeable, gracious, and very nice and friendly.) In the end we didn't buy anything on this trip... But there were some real values in the seconds and clearance areas. (All of the bowls out front are also seconds. But as we were told, some of the seconds you would be hard pressed to tell.) The artist turns the bowl from prefallen wood that he reclaims in the area. There is ONE painted type of bowl, otherwise they are incredibly natural. He also makes cutting boards, chopsticks, sushi boats, and many other things. Pop by some afternoon! You might just leave with a treasure.
