Red Sauce Pizza’s Shardell Dues Shares Her Go-To Portland Restaurants - Eater Portland

"Peter's Bar & Grill on the corner up there, it's just a little dive bar-meets-Red Robin kind of vibe: chill for older or younger people. They've got a great burger and tater tots." - Thom Hilton

Where to Eat and Drink in Cully | Eater Portland

"Peter’s Bar is the perfect neighborhood bar, with regulars abound. The staff is gracious and attentive, managing both rooms of this split bar with ease. The Star Quarterback burger very well might be the best bar burger in Portland, with perfectly seasoned meat smothered in caramelized onions, special sauce, and American cheese. It’s messy, but worth it." - Kara Stokes

Google
I personally had the quarterback burger with cheddar instead of american cheese. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The tater tots were also very, very good. Atmosphere i give a 4 out of 5 It's very much a neighborhood friendly bar. Fairly loud, though, but thats a given. It is a bar. My aunt had the california burger and said she enjoyed it. Image 1 is the California burger Image 2 is the Quarterback burger I will be coming back again :>

Google
Lovely little neighborhood bar that serves generous portions for more than reasonable prices. The staff is welcoming, daily specials look tasty, and there is even a little patio for those who like to hang outside. Easily possible to get in and get out for $20 or less, even leaving a 20% or better tip. Street parking is available and usually easy to find.

Google
I've ordered here long enough now that I've seen little changes here and there that have brought food quality down. They've gotten rid of their fries, previously some of the best around. Ordered a BLT and it had one strip of burnt bacon for each half of the sandwich. Don't even get me started on the menu picture compared to what I got, thinking we won't notice them cutting corners. Fried chicken quality is more miss than hit. It's a shame. Used to be a frequent flyer here but going to start looking elsewhere.

Google
We’ve been here before and loved the experience. Unfortunately in the food industry business, a lot of that comes down to service. The bartender was so focused on gossiping with a regular that she couldn’t be bothered. We seemed to be interrupting her personal time and she was not happy to have to interact with us. Having worked in the industry, this is exactly what we’re taught NOT to do. Then the food came out and the toppings were chintzy and the plate was overall mediocre in flavor. I guess it really depends on when you come in.

Google
Thank you Liz! Haven't been here in years and its held up to the test of time. Great food or drink, they've got ya covered. Can get busy(especially with the footballs on) so have patience with your bartender.

Drew Conway

Google
Great food and drinks, reasonable prices. Divey atmosphere, which is fine by me, but a group of 4 came and sat down at one of the tables in the middle, which made getting around them difficult. I look forward to returning next time I’m in Portland.

Google
Great bar to watch sports (like the World Cup!) without it being too hectic or busy. I went there to watch one of the U.S. games and there were plenty of empty tables. The bloody Mary's are a great price ($7) and taste great! The food, especially the clam chowder, is delicious as well!

Google
Great neighborhood bar plus surprisingly good vegetarian food! We had the veggie burger and the veggie sandwich and both were A+’s. Would definitely recommend for food or drink!

Yelp
I must say, I believe I've found my new favorite patty melt in town. Granted, I haven't eaten every patty melt in town, but Peter's Cully Melt, add jalapeños is absolute fire! The rye bread was expertly grilled. Their signature sauce, combined with the exceptionally grilled patty and sautéed onions, produced the right amount of juiciness. I'm telling you, the Cully Melt is great! Also, the mixed greens salad, with carrot strings, delightful, especially with the blue cheese dressing The two wonderful individuals behind the bar were very attentive and hospitable, as well. Thank you Peter's 19th Hole. I'll be back.

Yelp
Feels like a real genuine place and am impressed with the bar food at Peter's. They haven't let me down and am always excited to try the soup of the day. Great friendly service and options of seating. The staff makes people comfortable and it feels like a family. Thanks Peter's! The sliders are amazing. Beer list is great. Soups are always on point. Reasonable in every way.

Yelp
Not exactly impressed. It was loud, cold and the bathrooms look like they belong in a homeless shelter. Now the only food we tried were the nachos because this was a midday snack stop. For $12, I expected something better than what I received (picture uploaded). There are no refried beans on these, just black beans, which is fine with me. Unfortunately, I think it only had about 30 beans total on the whole plate. Once you lifted up the top layer of chips, there was nothing underneath. There was no cheese, no beans, nothing. I won't make a trip to come here but if I'm going by I might stop in and have another beer and try their burgers. If I go, AND I have a good experience, I will update my review.

Yelp
I've been to Peter's Bar and Grill three (3) times in the past two (2) months and I love it. It was recommended by a local and he was correct. It was loud and dark with great bar food. We were never disappointed when our food was being consumed. All three (3) times Mariel was our server. Together we have had beef tacos, Cully Melt, Bench Warmer, Star Quarterback, or a combination of these with fries. My friend always had his beer and I had my fountain drinks. The burgers were great and the tone of the bar was joyful. I will continue to visit there as I have business on Cully.

Yelp
Peter's is a "cavern tavern" with pub food, beer on tap, friendly servers, and a small patio. The interior is dark and dive-y. I am obsessed with their flooring (see pic). It's truly a neighborhood spot, that you might not think to stop by. But it is always busy in the evenings with families and friends laughing and watching the game. Although it is typical pub food, they do have rotating specials that are quite good - like fish and chips on Fridays and taco Tuesdays. There are a few items for vegetarians. Service has always been friendly and welcoming, if a little slow when busy. I have admired the owner's transparency and thoughtfulness throughout the COVID pandemic, keeping patrons apprised of policies via their social media. It's a spot I'm happy to walk to once a week for an easy date night or casual hang!

Yelp
Don't come here if your skin color is any other color than white the bartenders are very rude they pretend your not there. they don't serve you. They let you know that with actions. I sat at the table for over 49 minutes while 2 employees repeatedly walked pass me not uttering one word.
google avatar

Yelp
Perfect spot!! We needed to pop in for a quick bite with about 6 people and were not disappointed. Great prices and delicious food. I actually ordered a beer darker than I normally would and loved it. The staff were kind and accommodating. If I lived in the area, this would easily become a favorite for our family. Enjoy!!
google avatar

Yelp
The food at this place is always so much better than you'd expect - don't judge a book by its cover! I think this is technically a sports bar, they have several TVs that usually have something going on, but the real reason to come here is the food! A friend and I came in about 8pm on a Friday night. Two server/bartenders, plus kitchen staff, and a half full building meant everything was quick to the table. My friend had a couple beers and I had a couple old fashioneds. When you come here, be sure to look at the specials board. I had a $16 steak with fingerling potatoes, asparagus and demi glace. The steak was perfectly medium rare, dry seasoned, and the demi glace complemented it all perfectly. Easily the best meal I've had in a long time for this price! My friend had the nachos. She always gets the nachos. Because they pile on everything here! And because they use a bowl with a wide rim, under the toppings is a bed of still crunchy chips ready to dig and dip. So good!

Yelp
The perfect Portland neighborhood bar/pub.. The food jumps over my expectations every time i go there.. The owners and the staff are always available and attentive. You should try the little league burger and the taco salad are so good. House made dressing is awesomesauce!!!
google avatar

Christopher P.

Yelp
Very friendly staff and excellent food in a place that feels local but also very welcoming. The taplist allows for variety and there are some good vegetarian options. The Veggie Sandwich was a great blend of veggies on good bread and not just a meat sandwich minus the meat. I've been recommending this place to people since I went there earlier this summer and I will continue to do so.

Melissa P.

Yelp
I used to go to Peter's quite a bit. Had not been in a couple of years. Decided to check out the menu in order to have dinner there. Man that menu has shrunk. There used to be delicious onion rings, amazing specials. Now it's just the basic stuff you can get anywhere.
google avatar

William Y.

Yelp
My brother told me about this place while visiting his business partner who lives 5 minutes from it. I don't know how you'd find this place otherwise, but it's honestly one of my favorite places in Portland! Pro tip: order the little league burger. Supposedly it's on their happy hour menu, but not in their regular menu, but you can actually order any time. It's a double cheeseburger on an English muffin for like 5$. Wouldn't expect this combo to be good but trust me it works!! It's a great deal.. and delicious... and probably bad for my lifespan because I order from here like twice a month :D Also the ranch is fire. Also the tater tots Cajun are Fire (except a bit salty) Hidden gem

Yelp
Stumbled upon Peter's yesterday while driving out to Gartner's. We had passed it many times but wanted to be fun and stop in and see what it was all about! Plus, we were hungry! I thought this place would be your typical little dive bar, but it definitely didn't have that vibe. It was just the perfect neighborhood bar! Inside was nice and clean with plenty of tables. They were busy but we got seated right away. It seemed as if there was only one server and she absolutely killed it! She was super nice and on top of everything. We ordered their little league burger which came on an english muffin (I was SO excited because I love burgers on english muffins!), their truffle fries, and the buffalo wings. Everything was great and I would say waaaay above your typical average bar food! The burger and fries were AMAZING and next time I'll definitely try their garlic chili wings. We don't live close by but we will definitely be coming back again and again!

Cassidy D.

Yelp
This establishment was a pleasant surprise. Food was tasty and the drinks were good and reasonably priced. Cute little place overall, even their little patio area despite being on busy cross streets.

Carter J.

Yelp
This bar is honestly one of the best bars to go to the food is amazing and nice dinning and amazing staff I love there tacos

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't posted on this place yet, it's GREAT! The food is always great, if you see a special that looks good, get it!! I'm addicted to the Hat Trick. Service is always great and they keep your drink full if that's what you want. Owner Tim is cool and lets his staff do what they are good at, taking care of the neighborhood customers. It's always busy, which is a good sign. If you want a place where they will quickly all know your name, and they will always be glad you came, wander in.

Yelp
I've written close to 1000 reviews and have rarely complained about wait times. Holy hell did that take long for a cheeseburger and fries! Not until I inquired did the server realize they forgot my order. While she apologized the concession was a simple, "do you still want it?" I almost left, but already invested 1/2 hour sitting there. They offer some creative burger options that include cream cheese, jalapeños, etc., but I ordered the first one listed: The Star Quarterback, a traditional/classic. Although I ate it while slightly agitated, it was excellent. The bun isn't low quality sesame, it's very airy versus overwhelming chewy. The caramelized onions balanced the shredded iceberg, gooey cheese, pickles and right size tomatoes perfectly. The burger as a whole is a bit too tall, but the patty wasn't overwhelming. It's bit messy to handle, but one of the better burgers of this kind. The fries are my second favorite type: crispy steak cut, they were very hot. The server was apologetic and very nice, I just wish there was a policy that allows for a discount when something like that happens. I'm looking at it from a customer service perspective rather than trying to get some sort of freebie. I'll chalk it up to a one off and definitely return as the burger is too good and a decent value.

Yelp
Waitress was very unfriendly. There was literally no one else in the restaurant and she told me I had to leave if I wasn't gonna order anything else
google avatar

Jesse H.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised how DELICIOUS the little leaguer is. I almost had to order a second one. Bartender was super nice and I walked in and sat at the bar with absolutely no problem.
google avatar

Jeanette F.

Yelp
First time here. Awful. Arrived around 4:50 to a Limited menu. Ordered the dry wings with sauces on the side. Wings were nice and crispy, sauces were not that good. Around that time they put the specials on the board....Steak and mashed potatoes,etc....would have been nice if our waitress had let us know what the special was, because I probably would have ordered it. But because I wasn't told, I ordered the veggie sandwich which had pepper Jack cheese on it. I asked for another cheese and was told cheddar and american were my only other choices, both of which I dislike. For a bar that prides itself on burgers, you would think they would have more than 3 cheese choices. I was super excited to get my veggie sandwich because the ingredients sounded amazing. Once I took a bite, I was so disappointed. It tasted like an iceberg lettuce and mayonnaise sandwich on toast. The waitress was not very friendly and seemed like it took all her effort to deal with us and other customers. When we got home I looked at Yelp and previous photographs from folks who had eaten there....there seemed to be many more choices previously...minimal choices now. I might go back to try one of their burgers but after tonight, probably not.
google avatar

Jennifer J.

Yelp
We just really enjoyed our meal here. I think the chicken nachos were some of my favorite in Portland!
google avatar

Tricia S.

Yelp
First off, I'm sorry ... the scent emitting from the to go bags was too tempting and I failed to get photos! Called shortly after opening in hopes of enjoying a delicious lunch. Liz was very polite and read back my order to ensure it was right. 30 minute wait - no problem. The 57 Burger was huge and cooked to perfection! It had all the fixin's and the fries were hot and crispy. The kids devoured them! I had the BLT with avocado ... lots of mayo, bread held up well to the filling, not as much bacon as the menu photo but enough for a great bite. Lastly was the chicken wings ... just as another Yelper said "oh Lord, it's good". Meaty, flavorful, juicy wings and the perfect amount for a full lunch. Glad we saw their FB post about serving takeout this weekend ... will definitely need to try something else!
google avatar

Stephanie O.

Yelp
Okay it's across the street from Fire on the Mountain but the wings are way better, the wine selection is decent for a bar that has good beer and cocktail options. They also require vaccination cards to eat inside which makes me comfortable. The wait staff is friendly. No wonder it's full even on a Monday! Totally recommend!

Cristina G.

Yelp
Dive bar with absolutely delicious food. Hidden gem! I moved out of cully and still go to peters for the food alone.
google avatar

Janet M.

Yelp
My old college buddy came into town from England and this was our pick for a spot to share girl talk, adult beverages, and lunch. I like this little place. On a Monday afternoon around 1, there was street parking, a comfy booth by the window, not many customers, and one attentive bartender who brought us icy mojitos and delicious food. I had a burger with stuff on it ( bacon, blue cheese, tomato, maybe a horseradish mayo??) and a salad with basil vinaigrette. My friend had sliders. Both of us were happy and enjoyed our catchup session in a pleasant environment. All good.

Yelp
8th stop on my 2018 PDX Take Out Grilled Chicken Sandwich Throw Down. Here is how the scoring went: Venue: Cool Irish dive bar look and feel. Pretty fun hang out spot. No parking though but outdoor dog friendly. 7/10 Service: Nice staff but a bit of a wait for food. 7/10 Bread/Bun: Basic toasted sourdough. The pesto was spread on the bread which made it soggy and it fell apart making it hard to eat. Putting the pesto in-between the cheese and lettuce would have prevented the soggy bread. 6/10 Other Stuff: comes with mozzarella cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, pickled onions and basil pesto. 8/10 Chicken Taste: the chicken tasted very good and was seasoned well. 9/10 Chicken Tenderness: This was a very moist and tender chicken breast 9/10 Value: at $11 the value was fair to good but sandwich size is on the small side. 7/10 Score: 53/70 (76%) The Chicken Dimaggio is a good grilled chicken sandwich especially if you like pesto. It's a small sandwich but pretty well executed. Nice plating too. I would definitely order it again. Check it out.
google avatar

Crystal L.

Yelp
I love this place. The food is solid and the staff are great! The environment is welcoming and warm. Stop by!
google avatar

Rumald M.

Yelp
This was the only place open in the area at the time of my visit and I'm glad I did. I was surprised by the quality of the food, the beer was great and the service was friendly. Yes they seem to be understaffed but so is literally every other place, the wait times were not unreasonable and you can tell they are working hard. I got the hummus plate and a salad with chicken. Really good, my partner got a good looking hamburger.
google avatar

Freya J.

Yelp
So good!! I'm so glad I finally stopped in after driving by it every day since moving to the neighborhood. The food was AMAZING. Hands down the best bar food in town. And great prices! Will definitely be back :)
google avatar

Carol F.

Yelp
I have been going to Peters for years. I have never seen such horrible service. I thought it might improve with time but unfortunately it's only gotten worse.

Liz M.

Yelp
We came in to this place starving and not looking for much other than bar grub. Holy moly did their food impress us. Fresh ingredients, interesting flavors, and overall killer taste. I got the chicken DiMaggio and it did not disappoint at all. Definitely check out the pickled onions! The bartender made some really good custom mixed drinks at a reasonable price as well. Two thumbs up- visit this place, it'll blow your mind.
google avatar

Vinnie B.

Yelp
"Don't judge a book by it's cover" Aesthetically, not exactly the Taj Mahal but once you taste the food you'll Instantly get why I gave them 4 stars. It's pretty much an average neighborhood bar with slot machines on the east side of the room kinda tucked away. But the food tho...Bangin! I don't know who the chef/cook is, but she can burn. I had the Humus plate and it was fresh w/lots of garlicky goodness with EVOO and Greek olives finely chopped and oh so gently put on top of the Humus. Perfection!! Get This The Eggplant sandwich was perfect too! Server/Bartender was straight up Superhero Status. She did it all....ya I watched her... she even had to play bouncer and toss someone out. Seriously, this place blew me away ! You'll love it, no doubt.
google avatar

Kathryn S.

Yelp
Taco salad is to die for, yeah, I went there. The Buffalo sauce is extra hot and the drinks are hand made. Love the staff and they require proof of vaccination so you can just relax and enjoy a good ole fashion dive bar ... But with great food!
google avatar

Brody L.

Yelp
I had never given this place a chance because it looked like a dive bar that would have bad food from the outside, but the inside is so good! Very friendly service with a rotating menu of fresh ingredient food. It's so fresh and rotating that they had nothing from the yelp photos and reviews, so if you see something in a picture, chances are, you won't be able to eat it once you are there... however they still had a nice selection of options and everything I ordered was fair priced and tasty. Taco Tuesday, 3 fish tacos for $7 or $2.50 each. $3 dollar happy hour salad and $2 Tecate. My dinner and a beer was $12 total and really good.
google avatar

Robert C.

Yelp
Nasty cully melt very unfriendly waiter. I've lived in neighborhood 30 years and never liked this place. Alcohol makes places better but not this place.
google avatar

Miss F.

Yelp
Why haven't I been there before last night? Great food, simple but well prepared. It takes a minute but that's perfect for unwinding with a beverage and some conversation. The clam chowder is epic. I can take Mom there or friends, all are welcome. Price point is good. Super kind server. It will be my Portland chill spot.
google avatar

Kelly S.

Yelp
Decent, 4 star. Maybe truly a solid 3.8 star. Good affordable drinks and food. Busy location, so just a little slower than what is expected, but a totally chill place. I'll return again if out in this area. ...oh, and their chicken wings are AMAZING!!! They are located across from Fire on the Mountain, and they can definitely throw down!!! I'd order these, again and again!!! CHEERS!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Peter's is a hidden gem. Their food is way better than I expected it would be, and their beer prices are still reasonable in a town that is rapidly becoming far too expensive. They are my favorite place to watch football on a Sunday morning!
google avatar

Harley L.

Yelp
I love Pete's no question. It feels like home. But, during the pandemic it is not a place I'll be returning to any time soon. Social distancing in a bar? What's the fun n that?I am concerned about transmission of the virus in an indoor setting. Pete's has very very good food and beverages. They also have excellent air conditioning. And, in the summer, with Covid-19 raging all around us, that's the problem. One person, positive for Covid-19 could come in , sit down, have an ice cold beer and infect 10 others. So, as much as I love Pete's, I'll be hanging out at my mobile home park on Killingsworth, with a tall cold one, reruns of the Jeffersons, and my ceiling fan on high.
google avatar

Tom S.

Yelp
Across the street from FOTM and might get passed over by those who regularly judge books by their covers. This is our go to place for a quick and low key meal or drink. Some killer nachos, good daily specials and service that will keep you coming back. Also Wednesday night trivia is a good time. Just be sure to study up as there are some hard core quizzo regulars.
google avatar

Kevin C.

Yelp
Short: Eat here because it is damn amazing. Long: I rarely leave reviews because I am not as connected as most people so I believe that if I take time to review something (this is my fourth I think) that it will be worth your while. Most people mentioned the dive bar look and feel but don't let that be off putting. It is a home like bar and grill with exceptionally friendly bartenders and staff. The service and smile alone from the lady who took care of us would bring my wife and I back in a heartbeat but then when you receive your food.... Holy hell. The food is outstanding by all means of the word. The menu is small and I feel each item is carefully thought out and crafted. Their scratch salad dressings and sauces are unique and tasty and their food is just the icing on the cake. I suggest anyone and everyone eat here, be merry, make a friend, and enjoy the company. It's a fun place with amazing food. What more do you want??
google avatar

Jen M.

Yelp
This is our neighborhood bar and we are so lucky! Thru good, beer and service is excellent. You get a taste of old Portland with the great food and beer experience Portland offers. Definitely check out this place!
google avatar

Clair S.

Yelp
Amazing burgers... their reputation doesn't disappoint!! Read about Peter's in @mrsmftasty book and ordered takeout w a couple of friends. Can't wait to go back and have a drink / burger on the small patio.
google avatar

Casey B.

Yelp
What's not to love? Really one of the best places in the neighborhood. Friendly service, cheap drinks, great food. I'm looking forward to brunch being served again during football season!
google avatar

Garrett T.

Yelp
The food is good for a sports bar and the nighttime help is good if they are not swamped but as local that sometimes comes in for happy hour I usually sit with an empty glass or no check until I ask for it. Daytime help rarely says hello or does more than the bare minimum even if the place is empty.

Vanesa M.

Yelp
I've been coming to this place for about a year now. Today, was the worst experience ever. I understand that tonight was a busy night due to the NBA finals and that the service was not going to be fast.... but, an hour after the game was over the service was not good. The folks I was with and I waited about and hour to close our tab, since the two servers (bartenders) that were there did not come back to our table to see if we wanted anything else. We got up from the table the two servers saw that we were ready to go but did not come over to close our tab. One of the folks I was with went to the bar to let the servers know we were ready to close our tab. She had to get the servers attention to let them know we were ready to pay, and walked back to our table. About 5 mins go by and the server didn't come to the table, another customer had to let us know that the server left our the tab on the bar (at no point did that server let us know). The same person took the card we were going to pay with to the bar and the two servers walked to the other side of the bar (where you can play the slots) and ignored that she was there ready to pay. We were ignored for over 5mins and when we got their attention they said "you were there for over 4 hours and didn't order anything" to which was a false accusation since the tab was almost $100. The other server got involved and said "you are here every week and hang out"...which again was a false accusation. Yes, we're there every week, which many would consider us as regulars... but we always buy drinks and food and that would make us patrons of this establishment... Yes, we're there for more than 2hours... but it's not like we don't purchase anything... at this point the customer service provided to us was poor. Yes, we got upset and defended ourselves from the false accusations, and in the end we were told that we could not come back. Which is not a loss for us, but for them as we were regulars!!! Our group was the only group with two BIPOC folks and was the one that had the worst service provided....
google avatar

Jeff H.

Yelp
No Coors Lite Draft beer. Asked for a menu and got ignored. Dirty table. I'm out. ~~~EDIT on 5/29/14~~~ I wanted to average out my review until I can go back here and retry out this place. A number of people posting five star comments with little reviews to their name makes me suspect, but an Elite with plenty of reviews made a point to talk about the positive changes, which makes me hopeful. The next time I'm in the area, I will make a special stop here to see what's up...then maybe I can put in a better review, because new local owners really deserve a shot to succeed.

Yelp
G! Bus!! Joseph & Sweet Mary! Deliciously amazing succulent sliders, blues music, crunchy onion pickle what? What the heck lentil chili, bomb blue cheese dressing, fresh greens....just a great shock to the taste buds! The fries are so heavenly! Kiss the cook!!

Yelp
We decided to skip traffic across the river to the north while rush hour was on and try a new place in north Portland. The happy hour crowd was plentiful and noisy but not boisterous. Frankly on Friday night they were pretty darn tame in my opinion. The wait for service was a bit long but the staff was efficient and polite - no complaints. They have specials every day of the week. Happy craft beer is a great deal! The overall menu is light on quantity while the food is well done. The Deacon Blues burger was huge and flavorful! The hand made patty with crispy bacon the right touch of Gorgonzola with red pickled onions and sautéed mushrooms and fresh broad leaf lettuce. The cook in the burg was perfect! The tots were way too salty but the crisp was light and fresh. The Friday special was battered cod fish and chips. The batter was light and crunchy, not doughy which is important. The cod was light and flaky. The house made tarter was a good blend of pickle relish lemon and mayo for a cool bite for the sauce. The fries like the tots were too salty. Overall price and experience is worth the trip!

Yelp
Value with a capital P! Peter's is one of those places you drive by constantly and would never think twice about dropping in..............unless of course you read Yelp! Guys night brought us here. You know there's something good happening when you cannot get a table on a Tuesday evening.....it was jammed packed. We finally got a booth, and from the get go it didn't disappoint. Great menu with burgers, nachos, wings, salads, and your typical bar and grill fare. However, the Taco Tuesday menu caught our eye! Tacos were exceptional! At 3 for $5 you cannot go wrong for a light meal. As a veggie there's always limitations but no worries here. The seasoned tofu tacos with black beans, cotija, and fresh guacamole were outstanding. I could have eaten 10 of them!!!! An extra buck fifty gets you house made chips.........oh...and you can get a free side of pickled jalapenos that spiced things right up. They have a full bar and daily specials, but if well drinks aren't your thing(mine either!) then you're better served with a small but well rounded taplist of good cold brews! Overall value is the word here.......and in the local neighborhood, word has spread like wildfire. There's not many places anymore that you can get in and out of for under $10 and feel satisfied, but Peter's has hit on a winning combination. Service is fantastic, we had two staff taking car of the four of us and it stayed busy all night. Very hardworking staff overall, and I was amazed there was only two guys in the world's smallest kitchen and they never seemed to get behind. It's a well oiled machine here and they've got their training down pat. Negatives? A few minor bits. It's a well worn little place, probably in need of a few upgrades soon enough. It's pretty small inside, and very loud when it gets packed. I wouldn't come here to watch a game. Hard to see the tv when not seated at the bar. Also difficult is checking out the beer menu on a chalkboard that's hidden from half the restaurant. They need a beer list at every table. If you're in NE and looking for a great place give Peter's a try. Those in need of a gastropub can get in their little Audi and drive further into Portland. You'll be better served here and have a much better time............and that value.....wow!
