18 Reasons to Order Clams

"While nearby Bigelow’s serves New England-style fried clams, Peter’s Clam Bar — founded in 1940 — is the local favorite. From its decks and expansive dining rooms, one can sometimes see clammers in their hip waders tonging their way through the offshore grasses, though most of the shellfish now come from further east on Long Island. Yes, there are chowders, steamers, stuffies, linguine and clam sauce, and clambakes, but perhaps best of all are the raw clams on the half shell, spectacularly fresh." - Robert Sietsema

How a Bike Crash Forced Eater’s Critic to Grapple With Dining in a Wheelchair - Eater NY

"At this quintessential Long Island restaurant, the food is never quite as good as you’d hoped, but pick anything involving clams and you’ll be perfectly happy." - Robert Sietsema

Love the ambience here. I always sit outside by the water. The service is excellent.. Went for lunch on Sunday. We were seated right away. They have plenty of seats inside as well as outside. The food was amazing. We ordered oysters (they were good), clam chowder (nice smoky flavor but not thick, good), lobster mac n cheese (delicious ), lobster cheesy bread (amazing) burger and fries (delicious), and the lobster salad with shrimp and scallops (the best ever), crab pot ( delicious). I have been here several times over the years and it remains amazing and delicious. I cannot wait to go back.

We used to be regulars in this place, but not anymore! The food was great, very fresh seafood as always. The most outrageous part was the service. The birthday was completely ruined, with special thanks to the manager. We ordered a bottle of white wine, and the waitress asked twice which wine we wanted. At the end of the dinner, we checked the bill, and we were charged for the wrong wine (which was not even on the menu!!). We politely asked to check the bill, and the manager's behaviour was completely outrageous, and I've never seen anything like that. He was blaming us that we didn't check the wine we were drinking. We said that even if we ordered a more expensive wine, what he brought was not that (the menu said 2015, and they brought us 2020 wine). He tried to argue that 2020 is the same as 2015 and basically created a huge scene in the middle of the restaurant. This was the most unprofessional and rude behaviour I've ever seen. We had to pay for the wine just to end this nightmare, which is a complete scam. Thanks a lot for ruining our birthday celebration.

Fried scallops, baked clams and salmon. Salmon was perfectly cooked and one side having a little crispness which is delicious. When in season the soft shell crabs are a must have dipped in cocktail sauce and I'm happy. The grilled shrimp scampi with the same sauce on the rice is finger licking good. Nice seating, views are of a dock and an old dump but not too bad since it's across the bay. The music on the outside deck in summer is a great time to spend with friends. (Just need to get rid of some flies on the screens inside).

Very nice experience and great time after spending the day at the beach. It was crowded though, so we waited a bit. Not sure if they are taking reservations, I think is first come-first serve

I was expecting to get some fresh fried fish with incredible breading and some fresh french fries from this placebut all I got was old mushy microwaved food for 26 dollars. This place is a rip off. Do not eat here. So disappointed (had high hopes) Great example of social media vs reality.

We had dinner on the outside patio on July 4. The views are amazing. We never knew they had such a gorgeous back patio. The service was excellent and the food was even better. We had king, crab legs, lobster, grilled cheese, and mussels marinara. The lobster grilled cheese is out of this world. We will definitely be returning to this hidden gem.
