The 21 Best Restaurants In Margate - London - The Infatuation

"Nothing is more inevitable than crunching batter on the seaside as you wave away a flying demon from your bag of chips. As per any coastal favourite, Margate has its most-visited chippy and also one that’s a little off the beaten track. You’ll more than likely opt for Peter’s as it’s right there opposite the sea and the fish and chips is excellent. Great batter, flaky fresh fish, good chips. Plus those behind the counter are some of the friendliest staff around and generous with the salt and vinegar. If you don’t mind walking inwards, there’s Alfie’s. Some locals say that’s where you should be getting your cod and chips." - jake missing, daisy meager, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

Decent fish and chip shop in a convenient location near the seafront. We ordered takeaway, but there’s both indoor and a bit of outdoor seating available. It’s a popular spot, so be prepared for a queue. Prices are reasonable and portions are generous, with a good variety of fish on offer. The fish was nicely crispy but lacked seasoning – some flavour during cooking would have made a big difference. Chips were tasty, though. I asked for salt and vinegar but it wasn’t added, so had to sort it myself at the table. I also ordered mushy peas and it also needed some seasoning. The décor is interesting, with fish exhibits and informative boards. However, the seating inside is quite cramped and hygiene could be improved.

Undoubtedly a very busy place at the weekends. The fish was, as expected, quite good—crispy and flavourful. However, the chips left much to be desired. They were too sticky for my liking, which took away from the overall meal. One thing that really surprised me was the pricing. While I understand that good fish comes at a cost, I didn’t appreciate paying extra for condiments. Seriously, £1 for ketchup/ mayonnaise? That felt a bit excessive. The service was excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive. They really know how to keep customers happy, and I appreciated that. Overall, while the fish is definitely worth a try, I hope they'll reconsider their chip preparation and condiment pricing. It’s a decent spot, but I think I’ll be looking for other options next time I'm in Ramsgate. Cheers.

Google
Service was fast, fish was succulent and chips neither dry nor wet. And it is very close to the Main Sands

Google
bad service. the saleswoman didn't know the price of any item. the fish and chips were very greasy. our table was wobbly and it was difficult to eat. I don't recommend it.

Google
Nice traditional fish and chips, affordable prices especially for a Cod compared to some London prices where I'm from. Staff were friendly, and the interior decor is interesting with the swordfish and shark along with the variety of posters.

Google
Decent chips, if not a little expensive considering it’s Ramsgate. They don’t have vinegar and salt by the counter so you need to go back and get some from the tables if you want to make your own flavour. Staff are fairly decent and there is quite a bit of a wait even when it doesn’t seem busy.

Yelp
One of the best fish and chip shops in Thanet. Pete's fish factory is next to the arcades, very close to the beach and harbour. They sell all the usual food, various types (they often have offers on fish and chip meals), pies, sausages, etc. You can get your food to take away or take advantage of the waitress service in the cafe style restaurant (very basic but clean). In the summer there are also tables and chairs outside for customers/

Yelp
Just talking about Peter's yesterday and saying how it was not as good as it used to be, but after a visit and eating the pollack and chips, decided it's still the best. Eating in or taking away the food is the same, and still good value for money, a little improvement in the service would be the only request. Long opening hours, the chance to park outside, and proximity to the beach and bars make it popular, and still better than the nearby opposition.

Yelp
The claim to be the best fish and chip shop must have been a bribe to the independent Marketing Board. The food was OK nothing exceptional. The staff and service are appalling; slow with not a smile in the place. They have some kind of Gestapo rule which instructs; that to eat inside, on a plate, you must obtain permission from the staff. However, if you purchase your your fish and chips in a box, you must eat at a table outside. If you do not follow these instructions the staff will shout at you to sit in the correct place. Attempting to ask why you cannot do certain things; could result in Piano wire being wrapped around your neck with a threat to pull it, if you disobey their commands. This place does not deserve one customer. The staff are a disgrace I would sack them all. The highest accolade for this North Korean style business should be:The most miserable chip shop in the world. I will be writing to the owner of this business ""Peter" in due course, to warn of the attitude of his staff. However, they do say the staff only reflect the owners character which I fine normally to be true. Does not matter how good your fish and chips are if your staff have an attitude; the business will fold. You have been warned.

Yelp
After reading previous reviews was looking forward to eating here. Total disappointment. Not sure if caught on a bad day (5.6.10), but inside service was appalling. The takeaway seemed to be running well, but inside we had to wait over 30 mins, which is inexcusable in a fish and chip shop. It wasn't even busy. Add to that, the meal was just about ok. 25% of the chips were inedible due to potato quality and the fish was more batter than fish. To cap it all, the drinks were warm as we were told the fridge had broken down. This could be excellent if it got its act together, but sadly they abuse the location they have, which will always provide business.

Yelp
possibly the worst chip shop in England! Soggy fatty chips, small portions. Very unhappy staff.
