Long time pub with grub. Friendly. Good food. Nice beer selection and cocktails.

Pete’s servers are so helpful and welcoming. The food is always consistent and fresh. Their specials of the day rotate and are also delicious. Highly recommend for a casual lunch or dinner

John Halseth

Google
Good food. Good rotating selection of draft beers. Mostly sandwiches and burgers. The weekly special was a BBQ brisket quesadilla with pineapple salsa and it was hella good. And no, there's no brass rails or car wash.

Google
The hostess at lunch was marvelous. I walked in a door that wasn't by her station but she saw me and walked towards me and greeted me right away. Then seated me immediately. She made me feel at ease and very welcome. Thank you so much!

Christina Tague

Google
Colleen is easily the best waitress I have ever had at any establishment! She is very knowledgeable, personable, and tries her best to make us laugh which I appreciate. She knows her stuff and is the main reason I find myself visiting Pete’s!

Google
Old-time downtown Danville restaurant favorite for many reasons. Pete's is a great place for the whole family. Very friendly and attentive waitstaff. Asked immediately as we walked in if we needed high chairs for our wee ones. Massive 1/2 lb burgers are deliciously juicy and messy to eat. Portions are BIG! Prices are very responsible for what you get. Kid friendly, besides clean high chairs, Pete's offers kids a coloring sheet of Pete. Diaper changing table in the women's restroom. Only place I can think of where you can be in a beer club, watch sports on one of 4 flat screen TVs, order a cocktail or wine, eat Mexican Food inside or outside, and have your kids all in one place.

Behnam Ardakanian

Google
Food was alright however the price doesn’t match it. Great place to hangout for sports.

Google
Love it, classic spot, beer is always fresh and tasty, food is great and very much enjoy the atmosphere (outdoor and people watch or indoor and chill).

Yelp
Pete's Brass Rail & Car Wash is a diner / sports bar in downtown Danville. I've always driven past be never stopped in. Very casual with lots of families kids and Dogs. The menu is American with burgers sandwiches and salads. We got the following: Flank steak Cesar's 4 stars lots of steak. The Todd burger 4 stars pepper jack cheese, sour dough bread, avocado and bacon. Chicken strips 4 stars battered chicken strips almost like fish & Chips batter. Service was ok. Public parking lot in the rear of the restaurant. $54 before tip.

Yelp
Great place for food and beer. Father's beer was there for promos and we got to try the beers and won a beer glass. Friendly staff.

Yelp
So as much as I hate to do this...while the quality is still the same...GREAT - it seems they've raised their prices just a tad and have switched over to a smaller plate size for their food. We might not have noticed otherwise but we get the same thing every time we go and couldn't help but notice the smaller plating. I had to dock them a star for charging a bit more yet making the plate smaller. Sorry guys.

C L.

Yelp
Not a bad place to hang out and have drinks when it's hot out. Pretty decent size restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. It was hot that day so we sat outside. But then again, it's always hot in Danville! Had the Diablo burger cooked medium just like i requested. Good amount of fries cooked perfectly. Had a bunch of porters. Only down side was that it was only served in 10oz glasses. Tried to get a larger glass and was denied. Service was good. Would definitely come back for the food.
google avatar

Joseph T.

Yelp
A classic diner experience! A ton of menu options and friendly service. According to the t-shirts the staff wears, there's no Pete, no brass rail and no car wash! There's plenty of good food. I ordered the pepper jack cheese chicken sandwich and my husband ordered the prawn plate. What's nice is that they offer healthy options so my sandwich was wrapped in lettuce. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. Very chill and casual. We'll be back!
google avatar

Yelp
The location is amazing and you can get a view of mount diablo or las Trampas if you sit on the side patio. Great for beer drinkers and local Danville residents. The food is consistently good but not great. Servers are professional and consistent.

Yelp
I love this place! The hamburgers are very big and extremely delicious and they're served with a lot of french fries! Zach H. served us and he was super nice!

Yelp
This place has been here for a long time and after visiting the Museum of the San Ramon Valley for their Totally Trains exhibit, my 3 year old son and I came here for lunch. What I like about this place is it's quick and good for kids. There's TVs, coloring sheets, giant "Petes" on the wall and the food/service is quick. PARKING - we parked near the farmer's market/museum and walked over but it looks like you can find decent parking in the street. WAIT - came at 11ish on a Saturday and got seated right away. When we were leaving around noon there were more people but no one had to wait. FOOD - we got a pesto chicken sandwhich to share and it came with fries. It was a decent sandwich. A plus is my 3 year old ate his entire half. The fries were decent a well, more like thick cut steak fries (not my favorite) but tasted hot and fresh. Overall, the food is nothing to write home about but it was quick and good enough for what I was looking for and the fact that I needed to eat alone with my 3 year old and have him be happy.

Yelp
OMG! We ordered the fish and chips tonight for my 99 year old dad and myself and they were absolutely fabulous! He was craving them and said they couldn't be better and I agreed. He is definitely the connoisseur of fish too! Large portions, great quality and reasonable prices, who could ask for more? Definitely our go-to place for fish and chips now. Just yum!! We also got the small green salad for one of our sides. Delicious and full of fresh vegetables and croutons. It is definitely the perfect side with our fish (and the coleslaw wasn't bad either!) A wonderful meal for sure!!

Yelp
Latest update: Latr Feb 2024 Most recent visit was pretty disappointing and a far cry from the Pete's of old. The cheeseburger was dry and under seasoned, and the bun was like stale cake. My Barclay burger, which I've been having since the 90's, was also dry and under seasoned, and the bread was not deliciously buttery like it should be. Also I t seemed a bit lowbrow to bring the buffalo sauce in a plastic to go cup. The service was good as usual. It felt like Pete's was losing its mojo, but I hope to return soon and ding out that my experience was an aberration.
google avatar

Yelp
The service was nice and dog friendly. The outside seating has lots of shade from the sun. The fish and chips (Haddock) was the best i've had since I was at the The Fish Wife in Cork, Ireland (now closed).

Yelp
There is no doubt that Pete's is an institution. You can see the locals hanging at the bar. Everyone is calling each other by their first name. Once you've gone there, they've got you and that's a good thing. The first thing to mention is the amazing vibe of the place - from the branding of the place (see their website), to the look of the building, to the service and food....it's a very unique place in the East Bay. The menu is pretty diverse - but pretty solid American brewpub fare. Good burger choices, chicken sandwiches, and a variety of added options. My wife and I both had burgers - hers was ordered rare and perfectly cooked. Mine was ordered medium rare and a little over - more medium but still tasty. I had the onion rings which were maybe top 10. She had the garlic fries which had the right garlic but needed more crisp. The beer menu rotates. There were some good beers I tasted, not my favorites, but good. Last but absolutely not least is their excellent service. So, I wouldn't say Pete's is perfect, but it's absolutely one of a kind and it's a place my wife and I will continually visit when we are in the Danville area or just passing through.

Yelp
We LOVE this bar and grill. Jill the owner wants nothing more than to provide the patrons with the best food and drink. Menus and beer selection ate extensive. Cocktails are reasonable and made with care. Prices: VERY reasonable. A sports bar owned by someone who cares!!!

Stephen S.

Yelp
I live right down the street from here and I gave this place up many years ago. The staff are rude as can be and food is awful. I came back today because they were given some of the Russian Rivers Pliny the younger and I have been wanting to try it for years. (It's a little overrated also)
google avatar

Yelp
Great food and service the space is charming and so open. Dog friendly. Love the good vibes plenty of people watching

Yelp
I ordered a new item on the menu and asked the waitress if she new how the fish was cooked? I could have the fish cooked in butter. She said it was not her job and she didn't want to interfere with the kitchen. Seriously? That's no way to earn a tip.

Yelp
I've been coming to Pete's Brass Rail & Car Wash since I was a kid, and let me tell you, it's a local classic in Downtown Danville. Funny enough, there's no Pete, no brass rail, and definitely no car wash--but what you do get is a solid American burger and beers on tap. One of the cutest quirks? The walls are covered with colorful drawings of "Pete" by kids in the neighborhood. It's little touches like that that make this place feel extra special. In the summer, there's nothing better than grabbing a spot outside, soaking up the sun, and digging into a burger. Speaking of burgers--get one. Trust me, it's what Pete's is all about. Pro tip: upgrade your regular fries to curly fries (worth every penny), or go wild and swap for onion rings, sweet potato fries, garlic fries, soup, salad, hot veggies, chili, potato salad, cottage cheese, or coleslaw. The options are endless, like an edible choose-your-own-adventure. Parking is a breeze with a lot out back and street parking nearby. For me, Pete's is consistently good--whether it's nostalgia or just the reliable quality, it always hits the spot. If you're new here, do yourself a favor and try the burger.

Yelp
It's been about 5 years since I've been back to Pete's but everything is just as I remember. The servers are fast and knowledgeable. The food Oh The Food. It's bar food made by masters. What ever you do don't sleep on the zucchini strips. Incredible. Don't forget the spicy mayo. You'll thank me later.

Yelp
Consistently great food and beer selection. A place that should stay in Danville forever as there is no place like it in the bay. You get the same experience every time and it's the best place to become a local at. Service is consistently fine, they will come to your table once so tell them everything then or else you are stranded. After having gone there many times, I recommend sticking to the chicken sandwich or one of the special items (Mexican food or pasta is the best). Curly fries are a go to. Anytime before 5 pm I feel there are little kids with parents who think it's Chuck E Cheese letting their kids run around without rules. The staff is always super nice and accommodating to the crazy kids with parents who let kids do whatever. After 5:30 there are fewer kids. Best spot to go for a quick bite and beer

Yelp
Staff and Service: - Our waiter was nice, but did get a few parts of our order incorrect / forgot some things - We were seated right away (we arrived around 7pm on a Saturday) Food and Drinks: - Bloody Mary: little on the spicy side (it is a habanero Bloody Mary, so was expected) - Diablo Burger: I ordered this with a lettuce wrap instead of a bun, expecting something similar to the In n Out lettuce wrap. It ended up being like a Cobb salad on both sides of my burger. This was also place on top of pepperoncinis. For those that don't like pepperoncinis, you know this pepper has a distinct taste and will flavor anything it touches - Pickles: we ordered a lot of pickles on the side and these were tasty - BLT: ordered this on grilled sourdough bread and it was filling. The curly fries we ordered this with were also flavored well Miscellaneous: - The entrance to be used for this restaurant is around the corner from the front entrance sign (on a side street) - Outdoor (with TVs and umbrellas) and indoor seating available - Street parking is available Overall, the ambiance was good, but there wasn't anything spectacular about this place.

Yelp
We came from Stockton to eat here. The food has always been pretty good but this last time it wasn't. I ordered the Todd she asked how I wanted it cooked I said medium it came out well done. My gf ordered the fish n chips which is always a crowd pleaser, but it smelled really fishy even after it was fried. Both of our fries were stale. The server was good and helpful. After driving an hour it was a disappointment.

Yelp
This is a regular spot for us. Super friendly staff. Always a great Beer selection. Fish and chips are the Best in the area. Chicken sando was fire. Plenty of TV's for the sport entertainment. Large patio with lots of heaters for a chilly night eclectic menu and sign up for the Beer challenge

Yelp
One of my all-time favorite places to eat. I usually sit at the bar and it's quite enjoyable to watch all the people while you eat. The service is pretty good especially at the bar because the guys are right in front of you. Some of the conversations at times can be pretty pretty funny. They treat each other like big brother little brother boom. I get the steak sandwich and sometimes I get it again. It is so damn good. If you want to come here to watch sports on a Saturday it's a good idea. They have indoor and outdoor dining parking on the side or around the corner. This is my place to be on a Saturday afternoon.

June V.

Yelp
A good pub fare menu beer choices were limited but good. Staff was friendly and accommodating We will return again.

Yelp
Finally got back to town in Danville and had to stop here for lunch. We introduced our friends from Southlake to Pete's and they loved it too. I really wanted that chili cheese dog but my wife thought that might not site well on the plane ride back to Dallas. We ate outside since it was gorgeous outside. Good service, great (bar) food and any kind of beer you want. Definitely give it a go!

Chris C.

Yelp
Tried again and this time the bartender was rude af. Must come from the top. Not sure what's driving all the poor service but they should fix it because everything else is great about this place.
google avatar

Christine C.

Yelp
Do you like beer? I'd so, this is the place for you. Alternatively,do you like men? Also, a place for you. Pete's is a place to get the best beers on tap in Danville. It's a no frills place to grab a bite to eat. It's definitely a place for locals. We recently joined the beer connoisseur club for $40. You get $1 off draft beers on Monday and are rewarded for tasting beers. Service is friendly and casual. It's definitely a "bro" vibe.
google avatar

Brian H.

Yelp
It's your classic American pub and there's nothing more to say the food is good but nothing special for a family of five its around 100$, fun to hang out with friends and talk while looking off a balcony like patio. Our server was also very kind, I recommend!
google avatar

Noelle O.

Yelp
Been here several times now and it's become a standard. Yes, lots if it is bar food, but the menu is huge and has something for everyone, even some healthy options. Also, they have a good selection of reasonably priced local wines (and beer of course). I come here for a guilty pleasure - popcorn chicken and curly fries. I've also had the Cajun chicken sandwich which was delicious. Nice out door patio. If you sit on the Linda Mesa side, you have a view of Mt. Diablo in one direction and the Las Trampas hills in the other.
google avatar

Yelp
Um, no car wash. Um, no brass rail. And, apparently, no Pete. WTF? It was still time to give this place a chance. After all, it's always packed. The menu has burgers, sandwiches, salads, and lots of fried things. They have some tantalizing specials, and quite a dozen drafts. Still, I was reluctant. The gf, pooch, and I were a little peckish a couple of weeks ago. We stopped for a draft, and an order of fried zucchini. Wow! The zucchini were cut in half, and there were 6 pieces (that's 3 whole zucchini's for those trouble with math). Perfectly crispy with a nice thin batter. OMG -- the best I've ever had. [$9.45, 5.0 stars] I've thought of them everyday since. So, I had a free evening for dinner and return. I got another order, along with a Roger's Roast Turkey Dip au jus. A little small for the price, but another wow factor. The turkey tasted like housemade, tender, and delish. [$14.45, 4.5 stars] The place is mostly locals. Like, dedicated, all-the-time, locals. It has the feel of a diner, inside. I really like it. Up next, a burger!

Lanetta W.

Yelp
It's a relatively clean restaurant in a nice safe area. Staff were kind, personable, attentive and accommodating. Unfortunately restaurants are about food, so I'm forced to give 2 stars. It's rare for me to meet a burger I don't like but... this one was actually bad. Bun was dry and stale, burger tasteless, fries weren't salty. Ive heard great things from many ppl about this place so possible it was an off day or that the burger is simply not the thing to order here.
google avatar

Marjhul M.

Yelp
We're not from here but stumble on this special hole in in the wall special restaurant/bar. Service was awesome, and food was great. Special thank you to Jill. Great service

Ken H.

Yelp
I have been coming here since I was a kid and this is without a doubt my favorite place to bring my family. Great food and an incredible family atmosphere!

Christine V.

Yelp
The staff here is so nice and the food is always tasty plus chances to try lots of new beers. It's super pup friendly with the staff automatically bringing fresh bowls of water and just overall very welcoming.

Yelp
last time i eat here. very sad that this place is no longer the iconic place it was. i had heard the original owner sold the restaurant last year. not sure if it's true, but each time i go back it gets worse. both my friend and i ordered a chicken sandwich. after i got home, my stomach started having sharp pains. the pain got worse until i finally gave in and threw up. after that, i couldn't leave the bathroom... i'm sure you can figure out why. i only ate half the sandwich, as it tasted off. my friend was sick as well. so long, Pete's! i don't like leaving negative reviews, but figured others would appreciate a heads up.

Patrick H.

Yelp
Always a decent place to go. I have one question though, why charge $1 more to get a "protein style" burger in lettuce instead of the bun? The economics do not make sense. A bun has to cost a lot more than 2 or 3 pieces of iceberg?

Nick D.

Yelp
Horrible customer service. I was with a group of 3 in the outside Covid dining area across the sidewalk. One person had purchased a meal over 20 dollars. Then a Hispanic black haired lady told us that we are not welcomed here because the other two didn't buy anything. I work with people with intellectual disabilities & the other two brought their own lunch from home due to health issues. I have never witness this shit service anywhere in over 32 years. Unreal...
google avatar

Beach L.

Yelp
I'd stick to lunch and not a late dinner. While I know this place is a local institution and always packed. The Mexican food I had for a late dinner recently reminded me of high school cafeteria food. Maybe the Mexican food at night is made earlier in the day and not cooked fresh? The fries were cold and soft. Waiter was hard to chase down. I've been here during the day where the waitress was fantastic and the food came hot. Maybe I should have stuck with a burger.

Mark C.

Yelp
Always always x 10 seated promptly and served quickly. The staff is well-trained and consistent in running your drinks and food out. The menu is vast yet we've never had a problem here in 17 years. It's even gotten better since the new owner took over and she is there every day making sure it's consistently awesome. Great food and drinks but better community
google avatar

Zachary C.

Yelp
The food and the service have gone way down hill. The front entrance that was so special is gone. The new owner and their family/crew take a table near the back end of the restaurant to do random things and eat. The staff is a mix of old and new, but the attention to detail and perception is totally lacking. Not to mention there are better burgers at better prices with cleaner ambiance and stones throw.

Weldon T.

Yelp
Great dinner, had the pasta special, a good cld glass of Sauv.Blanc, the garlic toast was a great special. Keep up the good work Jill, your crew are special..and btw Tim sez his cheeseburger with new bun is extra special!!! Wmt

Yelp
I have seen people sitting out on the patio, enjoying dinner and beer. I always thought, "We should try that place sometime." Then I read about their beer club on Yelp and thought, "I am definitely going to try that place." Now with this shelter-in-place going on, what can I do? Well, I found out that Pete's is open for lunch and dinner take out service. Lunch from 12pm - 2pm Dinner from 5:00pm - 7:30pm Here's how it works. 1. Check out the menu http://www.petesbrassrail.com/framemenu.aspx 2. Call in your order 925-820-8281 (even pay by phone if you want) 3. Drive up to the curb and call to let them know you arrived. 4. They bring out the food to your car. You can even get beer to go as long as you order food with it. They are selling groceries too in case you'd like to cook at home. So I gave them a try. Now, I admit, taking the food home is not as fun as hanging out on their patio. And it would have been a 5-star experience if I could have done that. Next time! How about the food? We ordered a large fried shrimp platter, an Almost Reuben sandwich, #4 Chicken sandwiches (w/bacon & swiss), and BLT's. Everything comes with fries unless you ask for a "Quickswitch". For $2, I changed my side to a salad. But I forgot to ask for sauerkraut on the Almost Reuben. Yes, you must ask for the kraut ($1) or else what you get is almost a Reuben. All the sandwiches were good-sized and contained a fair amount of meat. The Almost Reuben was delicious, even without the sauerkraut. The shrimp was cooked just right and the cocktail sauce was not wimpy. I mean, you could actually taste the horseradish in it. I like that. The fries were good, but I'm glad I got the side salad. The salad was quite refreshing. If you want draft beer to go, bring or buy a growler. Otherwise, you can get bottled beer, including Pliny, if you like that. Now I must go back after this pandemic thing is over and join that connoisseur beer club. I hear that members get a dollar off every beer on Monday nights.

Yelp
This is our Cheers, known quantity and reliably comfortable. Specials are a actually special with generous portions. Great brewers selection with sports to watch. Family friendly neighborhood bar.

Yelp
Pete's Brass Rail & Car Wash is a legendary name in Danville. Located on the south end of downtown, it has been around for at least a couple decades. I have eaten here a number of times since I grew up nearby. The funny thing about this place is the name. There is no brass rail, no car wash, and nobody seems to know who the heck Pete is. I met up with a few friends here for dinner on 09/25/2019. At 7 pm, the place was busy inside and out. The hostess seated us at a table near the entrance. I didn't notice any changes since my last visit. The interior was clean and bright. The TVs were showing baseball games. The Pete's Hall of Fame and many cartoon pictures of the mysterious Pete were still on the north wall. For starters, we got a couple appetizers to share. The fried zucchini sticks ($8.95) were as good as ever! The were fresh and the beer-battered tempura breading gave them a nice crispy exterior. The ranch dressing was a nice complement to the dish. The chips and salsa ($6.45) were decent. The chips were light and crunchy and the salsa had a nice spicy kick in it. For the main dish, I had the San Ramon Burger with cheddar added ($14.45). I must say I was very disappointed by it. The burger bun was cold and stale. The patty lacked seasoning and didn't taste like it was made with high quality beef. I asked one of my friends who also had a burger and he agreed with my assessment. Service we received was pretty good. The young staff was friendly and was on top of things. This is a pretty decent place to grab a pint and share a few appetizers with friends. But if you are seeking more than that, then I'd advise you go elsewhere. BONUS MATERIAL: - Major credit cards accepted. - Daily specials available. - Large beer selection. - HH Monday-Thursday 3-5 pm.

Yelp
Can't say enough good things about this place. It's been our favorite restaurant since we moved here in 1993. We've celebrated most birthdays and special occasions here, and ordered take-out during the pandemic to make sure they would still be there when restrictions lifted. The food is consistently good, with a regular menu and daily specials. Pete's is more than a restaurant in Danville. They are part of what makes our community. They have special beer nights, fundraisers, football parties, etc. We always see at least one familiar face when we go, and the staff knows our order before we sit down! Long live Pete's !!
google avatar

Glenn L.

Yelp
Pretty crowded for a weeknight, but was able to sit at the center island. Ordered a bacon cheeseburger and rings, plus the fish and chips. Food is very dependable and service is still very attentive. I still love the idea that they have the known option of swapping out fries for salads or other options. I got a little confused that the main entrance was on the side, but it has been like that for a little under two years.

Yelp
Our first time was 10 years ago, we came down a bunch of times, then haven't been in since Covid. Last night was our first night back and I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed with the food. It was... Denny's quality. The burgers were meh, the fries were ok. The other dishes were horrible, low quality and the sauces were SMH. Would I go back? Maybe... for beer and fries... but not for dinner. Sorry Pete's I wish it was better.

Yelp
We were here over a decade ago and couldn't remember why we didn't want to come back. One afternoon, we decided to see why this place is always so busy. When asking the waiter about the best dishes to eat, he told us that he would eat everything on the menu but the only thing that he really wanted was the burgers. Since we didn't feel like burgers, we ordered the special barbecue and carnitas plates. The carnitas was well spiced and marinated but that's the best that I can say about this dish. As for the barbecue, The ribs tasted like they were boiled and not broiled, with a thick layer of ketchup sauce on top and not barbecue. It came with a bowl of steamed vegetables that were like the Frozen vegetable packets that you can get at the grocery store. Overall, we were unimpressed and don't plan to visit again anytime soon.
