During a recent visit to pick up our son from UTSA, we decided to explore some local flavors, and Pete’s Hot Chicken did not disappoint. A cozy yet vibrant spot offering Southern-style hot chicken, this place served up some of the most mouthwatering dishes we've had in a while.
I opted for the Chicken and Waffles with a medium heat level, while my wife went for the Chicken Tenders at hot spice, and our son chose the Dirty Bird. The portions were generous, and the flavors even more impressive.
The chicken pieces were enormous—perfectly crisp on the outside, with a tender, juicy interior. The batter was seasoned to perfection: bold and flavorful without being overwhelming. The heat level was balanced just right; medium provided a satisfying warmth, but for those sensitive to spice, it’s best to go with a milder option.
What truly stood out was the overall texture: the chicken had a delightful crunch, and it wasn’t greasy at all. Every bite was full of flavor, and the seasoning was spot-on, creating a well-rounded and savory experience.
The Chicken and Waffles paired wonderfully, with a slight sweetness from the waffle that complemented the spice of the chicken. The Chicken Tenders were equally satisfying—crispy on the outside, tender and juicy inside, and with a bold hot seasoning that packed a punch.
Whether you're a local or visiting the area, Pete's Hot Chicken is a must-try. I look forward to coming back to sample the rest of the menu. Highly recommended for those seeking a flavorful and satisfying Southern chicken experience.
