Food Network Spotlights How a Chicago Chef Uses Food to Teach School Kids | Eater Chicago

"A member of the Cirrincione family, owners of Pete’s Pizza and the Superossa chain, was in court accused of bilking taxpayers of about $9 million over the last 10 years; prosecutors say Salvatore “Sam” Cirrincione forged paperwork to conceal sales and underreported more than $100.47 million in revenue between January 2010 and January 2019, totaling $8.96 million in unpaid taxes, and Pete’s Pizza on Western closed in 2019, claiming computer problems." - Naomi Waxman

Google
What a fantastic pizza! Pete's Pizza has mastered the art of simplicity. The sauce is a standout, full of great flavor, and the crust is exactly what you want it to be: perfectly chewy with a slight crisp. For a New York style pizza, the crust is perfect. Not too thin, not too thick. This is a truly delicious pie that's all about quality ingredients. I don't think I've had a better Pizza from a local place in Florida ever. Highly recommended for anyone in the area looking for a great pie!

Google
In town visiting from Philly and had Pete's for the first time. Delicious pizza and Sicilian pizza, with a very friendly staff! Highly recommend!! Especially if you're visiting from the Northeast and looking for a great pizza place that's similar to home!!

Google
Walk-in order. Got a large veggie pizza and 6 garlic knots. I didn't open the knots until I got home unfortunately. I ate a slice of pizza on the way home. Pizza was good, had a good amount of toppings. The garlic knots were too overdone. My friend who ordered 12 knots at the same time got a perfectly cooked dozen, loaded with minced garlic. Mine were brown, especially on the bottom. Disappointed. I wish I had taken a picture of my friends to show the difference in the knots. This is my first time ordering food here.

Google
New York style pizza for real. Passes down from son to son this is my favorite place to eat when I come back to my home town. I grew up here and this was actually my first employment I learned how to make pizza from scratch just like they do. This isn’t just food it’s history in every visit.

Google
Pete’s Pizza is a gem! We stopped here as a halfway meeting spot between Jacksonville and Orlando and were blown away. The pizza was delicious, the staff was welcoming, and the owner’s made us feel like longtime regulars. Old-school hospitality, great food, and a refreshing experience. Thank you for a great evening.

Google
I’m been a HAPPY take out customer of PETE’S PIZZA for 27 years. Food & Customer Service has been ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ the entire time. MY FAVORITE IS 1/2 PETES SPECIAL 1/2 PEPPERONI 🍕 & MUSHROOM 🍄‍🟫. Best Pizza in the Country. The secret is the cheese 🧀 😋 Order Ahead.

Google
Haven't been to this location in over 20 years. It still has a little NY pizzeria environment. And the pizza is still pretty good.

Christina D.

Google
The only place that has the closest thing to Jersey pizza! And their pasta dishes are huge and to die for! Fully recommend for a good Jersey style pizza! Actually gave up pasta for lent, so this was my Fat Tuesday dinner! Those meatballs..huge!

Yelp
Ordered takeout via phone, easy to order right to the point and didn't let the phone ring. Walked in and immediately felt that NYC local pizzeria vibe, I loved it. A bit worn but it can be attributed to the charm when the food is as good as it is. Got a large pepperoni pizza and garlic knots like nearly every other pizza place on my list to try. The pizza smelled, looked, and tasted great. It was a bit greasy but about as much you would expect from a NY slice. The dough/crust was a little too stiff than I'd like but that's just me being picky. The garlic knots are large and very good. This is one of the first pizza spots on my list that had both good pizza and knots not to mention the sauce. Pete's is definitely a contender for my favorite pizza so far!

Yelp
Hey, so I went over there a few days ago. I saw my friend working. I ordered some food and paid for it. I had the owner. I was waiting for like 15-20 minutes and I had the owner when I walked back in to see what was going on. I asked him to prove that I paid for it that my friend charged me even though he stood there next to my friend and watched him do it. It was just a very uncomfortable interaction. I have not been back and I definitely do not plan on going back. The food is okay, but I do not like that kind of interaction when it comes to customer service. I am in the hospitality industry. I've been doing it for a very long time and I have never ever come across something like this, and I am not wanting to leave reviews, but this is something that I definitely could not shake off because it was definitely something that bothered me.

Yelp
Excellent pizza. Great wings fantastic cheesecake I would highly recommend this pizza place to anyone.

Yelp
The worst pizza I have ever seen, the crust was inch and 1/4 thick raw in the middle and totally undercooked, we requested well done. Ordered a meat lover meatballs were gray and slimy sausage was old, ham was some kind of cheap boiled ham. Sauce and cheese bland and flavorless. My wife took 2 bites I ate half a piece and threw the whole thing in the trash.
google avatar

Yelp
I thought I'd try a slice today to see if the pizza improved from 5 years ago. O-M-G! When the employe was slicing the pie, he dug his nails into the pie itself, well beyond the crust- and this was while his boss was standing right there watching him and didn't open his mouth until I told them I wasn't going to eat something that someone dug his nails into, ands handling it in that manner without gloves on! How GD disgusting! The handler should be fired and his boss FINED!

Larry P.

Yelp
Always happy to get my take out food here. As close to NY as I've discovered in Florida so far.
google avatar

Patricia F.

Yelp
very low quality pizza with green olives all over the pizza ! who does that? black olives are the only kind that I've ever ordered on a pizza. it was way better before it sold from the original owners of 35 years. Papa Pete was genuine and cared about the food that left his restaurant. garlic knots are good.

Yelp
Pete's is and always will be the pizza I remember in Daytona. It was the first pizza place I tried when I moved here 10 years ago. Pete's is a small place with 6-9 tables. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is clean. They have a lot more than just pizza there. Unfortunately, I can only attest to the pizza and greek salad since that's the only thing I've ever ordered. When someone asks who has good pizza around here, I suggest Pete's.
google avatar

Rob S.

Yelp
Ok, ok...four stars. Pete's still can't beat my pies, but today I ain't cooking, and I'm on vacation!
google avatar

Daniel T.

Yelp
Undercooked mediocre pizza, chewy dough super floppy and dripping with grease! Ewwww never again. Needs new owners total revamp!

D W.

Yelp
5/10. Order not ready when arrived (late). Arrived home to find wrong pizza ( buyer beware, I get it ) Wife can't stand pepperoni ( the wrong pizza) very greasy ( calzone was pretty good) The staff seemed like they wanted to be anywhere else than waiting on customers. Sorry Pete's, one and done for us

Anne D.

Yelp
I drive down from Canada for the winter and always stop by Pete's, coming and going. As a vegan he uses his talents to prepare something I can eat. Always delicious, homey and the best atmosphere and food. Try it!!!
google avatar

Steve W.

Yelp
Mediocre pizza, but it's the owners attitude that lets them down. Rude to customers and should find someone else to deal with people.
google avatar

Isan H.

Yelp
the Pizza was delicious, order Margarita and all meat pizza, the curst is amazing. we put honey on crust for a little Colorado style.

Crystal H.

Yelp
I've lived in Daytona area for nearly 35 years. Pete's Pizza has been consistently the VERY best of New York style pizza. Hands down, our favorite! Always a pleasant experience whether we pick up or have it delivered. We highly recommend it.

Kim F.

Yelp
This is now my favorite Pizza place! Everything else there is great too. Try the Eggplant and a plain pie. Reminds me of NY,NJ Pizza!

Otto F.

Yelp
While Pete's has good pizza, you have to ask for well done. Don't waste your money on Heros. We ordered 2 whole Italian Specials for $11. They were supposed to have "ham, salami pepperoni, provolone +. They barely had one slice of salami, no peperoni, lots of lettuce. Lot's of bread but not much filling. They were terrible and we could not finish them.

Bradley W.

Yelp
the pizza was spot on to expectations you see on all the pizza videos out there. what made them stand out was how well crafted the dough was great proportions.

Yelp
I'm still looking for a great Italian restaurant that makes an awesome sauce, so I thought I would try this place... I'm still looking. I tried the spaghetti and meatballs with an order of garlic knots and some "pizza fries" for a friend. I liked the meatballs. Big, beefy, some good flavors there. The spaghetti noodles were ok, nothing fancy. The sauce was thin, a bit watery, needed some seasoning. Thin was good though because the garlic knots were buttery and garlicky on the outside, but tough and chewy on the inside. So the sauce was great to dip into like you do a biscotti into coffee to soften the knots up a bit. As for the pizza fries... I don't know what to think about those... basically fries covered in pizza sauce and cheese. My side salad was basic chopped iceberg, I almost suspect out of a bag and not very fresh. The fried chicken was a preformed probably frozen patty which wasn't even warm when I tried it. And, they forgot the dressing with my pick-up order. Kinda sucks when you're traveling and don't have a fridge with any available dressing. I read good things about the pizza, so if someone orders some I might give it a try, but for now, the search for a good Italian sauce continues.

Yelp
This place has amazing pizza, I don't know what else to say. I'm originally from New Jersey and New York, and this place saves me the cost of a flight back home. Seriously so good, the pizza. I got a cheese slice, a white slice, and a cannoli before going back up to the counter for a Sicilian. They hooked it up! Excellent work!!! I'm stuck here for school but having found real NY style pizza in Daytona beach, makes it a lot easier. I wish I had a pic of the pizza but it was gone in 2 sec.

Yelp
They have great food and good deliveries service, I have always had great outcome with them and the best sauce ever, however I called them today with a special request which was quite simple and is delicious, and maybe should be on the menu, a spaghetti and meatball calzone, basically an order of spaghetti n meatballs cooked in calzone shell with a little mozzarella, no big deal, them said nope , they won't do it, ok, like really, what's the big deal? And the guy was so pompas!!!
google avatar

Jen D.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our pizza, garlic knots and fries. Thank you to the nice let that delivered to us. We didn't realize we were outside of the delivery area, since we're from Atlanta. She dropped it to us on her way home. Thank you!!!! Definitely will support a business that went above and beyond for us!
google avatar

Davide L.

Yelp
Damn man. Waiting 90 minutes for the worst margarita pizza we've ever had. Hate to see it. F
google avatar

Janice N.

Yelp
The food was great, however I had no copy of my order so I don't know if I made an error or they did, I was fairly certain I ordered, among others things, 2 side salads and 2 pieces of cheesecake, I got one of each. It was a delivery via grub hub and the order was done online. I really didn't know how to verify one way or the other, but this isn't the first time I did not get what I ordered. I don't think I will get delivery again, I'll either pick it up and verify or do something else.

Yelp
I was excited to try Pete's Pizza after reading good reviews. Maybe I went on a bad night? I ordered Pete's Special pizza and was anticipating a typical NY style crust. The crust was so chewy that my jaw was popping and I struggled to finish the first slice. I expected a slice that was crispy on the edge but supple enough under the toppings to be folded when you eat it. My pizza did NOT fold, it was more like breaking. Since i was still hungry, I decided to try another piece. I threw the pizza out that night. I haven't even started describing the taste, or should I say the LACK of taste? The sauce was flavorless. The sausage was bland too. I'm really not a tough critic. I really love pizza, but this was probably the worst I've ever had, and I've lived in 7 different a states. THAT is a lot of different pizza places that I have tried over the years! I also ordered hot wings. I'm not lying, those wings were so tough! It was hard to believe that I was that "lucky" to strikeout with the pizza AND the wings. They seemed rubbery and hard to chew, just like the pizza. I was extremely disappointed. The flavor was okay. The chicken was overlooked, in my opinion. I'm not trying to slam the business, in general. I'm just trying to give a true account of MY experience. Plain and simple. I wish Pete's Pizza nothing but success, but I will not return. No hard feelings, but I wish I had the $28 back that I spent. I could have had a really great meal somewhere else with that money.

Sandra G.

Yelp
My daughter and granddaughter and I went there today. Very friendly!!! We ordered a fresh pizza and we sat while it was made. It was very fresh and crispy!! Perfect crust and great flavor!!! You will not be disappointed!!!!

Yelp
The best loaded pizza i have had since leaving NE fast delIvery, toppings mounded, just awesome

Jen L.

Yelp
Delicious pizza. Friendly staff. Best pizza around. Came all the way from Alabama for it.

Charlotte A.

Yelp
I ordered a pizza pie with this App. My pizza delivery was placed on the ground in front of my door where ants and other insects had access to it. All I received was a text message when my door bell was in front of the delivery person's face. Good luck. If you like Pete's Pizza, order for Pickup because I didn't appreciate the delivery service.

Yelp
Great authentic Italian pizza! It's worth grabbing a couple of pies whenever your in town

Tyler S.

Yelp
Came in @9:20 and they close at 10. The guy was very disrespectful when we asked if we could dine in. And said no we're about to close.
google avatar

Sam C.

Yelp
Definitely not the worst in Daytona... Service is great, sauce has flavor and dough has a nice crisp and keeps it shape (no flop). Only issue, you have to catch it just right because they are not consistent...

Tmarie F.

Yelp
Amazing food and the staff are very friendly and attentive to each customer I would definitely recommend Pete's Pizza
google avatar

Jeannie M.

Yelp
They use to be so good. Idk what happened. Staff isn't the friendliest anymore. My pizza was just "ok" and that's after they corrected their mistake. My mom said hers tasted like cardboard. I wouldn't consider it 5 star anymore. 2 at most. Could be 3 if staff was nicer.

Tracey R.

Yelp
Stopped by Pete's on a recommendation from a fellow Jersey transplant. It's not easy finding a pizza parlor in Florida, never mind finding one with authentic New York pizza that tastes like home. Some say it's the water, I'm not sure if that's true, but whatever it is, Pete's has it! it's very difficult to find pizza that meets my family's approval. We were skeptical, but Pete's is the real deal. Even the atmosphere was just like home. No frills, complete with framed pics of the owner's parents who brought their delicious recipes from Italy, to Brooklyn, and finally to Daytona. Thank you Pete... we'll be back. Finally authentic, delicious NY pizza with by the slice counter service here in Florida! If you know pizza, You won't be disappointed!!
google avatar

Matt K.

Yelp
My family and I are very happy to have found Pete's Pizza and the owner, George. His staff and himself were a pleasure to talk to, extremely personable and happy people. George is originally from Brooklyn and the great woman taking out orders and making the sandwiches (sorry I didn't get a name) is from Jersey. We are from Philly ourselves and we know good pizza. It has been very... difficult to find good pie in Florida, but Pete's has what it takes. BTW, we were tipped off from Portnoy's review, he's a good judge of pie and we share the same tastes in pizza. The crust is perfect and the sauce is as good as anything from the NE, good tang, not sweet, spot on. My daughter ordered an Italian hoagie, done perfect. She was disappointed because she forgot to order the hots but now she knows for next time. In all, 5 stars. Thank you George for the great food and the great conversation. See you next time.

Yelp
I have been coming to Pete's pizza for years, it WAS a great place, however today I stopped by to grab a few slices, arrived a little early and was making work calls in the parking lot in my vehicle and at 10:57 someone opened the front door so I got out to walk in excited and to my left one of the guys working was walking in and started YELLING at me in the parking lot by the curb and sidewalk infront of the store for being there 3 minutes before they opened, I was out front in the parking lot, I wasn't bothering anyone, he looked pretty hung over and was carrying his Dunkin' Donuts bag and coffee, but berated me in the parking lot saying "I have to here to serve you" as if it was such a burden. And kept going and going... This was very rude and if it was my business I would be embarrassed.

Phoebe N.

Yelp
My husband and I really enjoy the pizza here. For me, it is what I have been looking for since moving here in 1980. It is as close to the pizza I remember from my childhood in NYC as I have found. The sauce has good flavor, the crust on the bottom has a slight crunch. The cheese is yummy. You can fold the slice and see the slight bit of oil drip off and this is what pizza should be like. The owner is originally from NY and this probably contributes to the quality of his pizza. Unfortunately, when I have had delivery, the crust isn't as crispy but that is to be expected of any pizza delivery so that is why we prefer to dine in. The ONLY reason this is not 5 stars is because the restaurant could be a little cleaner looking.
google avatar

Bella I.

Yelp
I really like this place since I've been here. But tonight I ordered my regular medium cheese pizza in the sauce is really watery disappointed. This place usually has bomb pizza. Must be somebody new in the kitchen or something
google avatar

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
Sometimes I don't get yall, you people thinking you are royalty because you have internet. This pizza is amazing, the best in town. Oh boo hoo someone didnt smile at me, boo hoo I had one bad experience after 30 amazing pies. Nut up yall get yourself some good pizza from Pete's and then get over your self.
google avatar

Ros Rio R.

Yelp
The best pizza around. I love every bit of this place - including the banter between those behind the counter. Real hand made pizza, their Sicilian pizza is second to none!

Ruby D.

Yelp
Pete's pizza is like stepping out of Florida and into NYC. The pizza is delicious. They make it the way you like it. Love going to Pete's, it gives me a little taste of home. We definitely will be going back.

Linda G.

Yelp
Very disappointed! Pizza was Luke warm at best and like cardboard. It was delivered a half hour later than time posted.
google avatar

Shannon O.

Yelp
I have lived in Florida for 4 years, I have always struggled find a decent pizza place that knows how to cook quality NY/NJ thin crust pizza. For all the NY/NJ people out there searching for amazing pizza , come to Pete's Pizza !!
google avatar

Alexis C.

Yelp
I give 4 stars mainly bc this is the closest thing to New York style pizza around in Daytona. The minus one star is the fact that they touched the pizza without gloves during a global pandemic, which made my stomach unsettled. Nonetheless, great prices for pizza that hits the spot.
google avatar

Loretta S.

Yelp
First place we come to when we come for the races. Pete's Pizza is a wonderful pie, rich flavors, very saucy and hot! The folks who run Pete's is the son of the original Pete from Brooklyn. They are friendly and seems to enjoy meeting people who come to eat at their Restaruant, The only thing that would bump up to 5 stars if if they had better paper plat
google avatar

Edward J.

Yelp
The TV is way too loud and obnoxious. The $10 minimum or credit and debit cards make it impractical for lunch unless you're buying for more than one, or you can eat five pieces of pizza. Decor needs a refresh, Goodfellas movie poster? Seriously? Pizza used to be good, have to come back with cash to confirm.
google avatar

Kate C.

Yelp
Moved to Daytona in May, was looking for a delicious place for pizza. Behold Pete's. I've been in the food industry 20 years, started out in the pizza business. This, my friends, is excellent pizza. People that have never been to NY or don't appreciate the culture will not understand these folks at Pete's. They're authentic. So is their product. Ask for it well done, you will appreciate it all that much more.
google avatar

Tait V.

Yelp
Pete's Pizza should be a five star pizzeria. The owners are from NY, have been making pizzas for 50 years or so, but it's just not consistent. When you get a good pie, they are hard to beat. Unfortunately, it's hit or miss with them. I've been coming to them for pizzas since I found out about them around 1992 or so, so this review comes from many visits. It shouldn't matter who's cooking, the ingredients are the same and they are cooked the way the owner taught them how. I've actually never had a poorly cooked pie from them, it's the taste, which is everything. I've tried to figure out what the deal is when it's an off night, but everything always looks like it always does with the herbs/spices sprinkled on top. I don't know, but the consistency is just not there. Again, when it's a good night, they are hard to beat.
