Where to Eat Around Loudoun County | Eater DC

"A casual creperie and café, Petite LouLou serves a range savory and sweet crepes to go with sandwiches, soups, and salads. It’s a good spot for a quick coffee and a croissant, but also for a substantive meal. Order brunch kits and other carryout here. Reservations for private greenhouses are available here. There’s also a Petite LouLou stall in Union Market." - Aparna Krishnamoorthy

Google
Kudos for offering actual thin crêpes filled with very respectable amount of delicious filling. By far, Petite Loulou takes the #1 spot on my best crêpes list knocking off Dulce Crepe's thick and doughy crêpes. Paired with Loulou's house coffee, this brunch combo is hard to beat. With a nostalgic dark colored decor based seating area, it is no wonder the dining space feels like a local community gathering area. While the crêpes standout, It's a bit surprising the baked pastry items just sit on the counter continuously absorbing in the muggy air when it comes. Most if not all baked pastries looked very stale and wilted when early brunch hours roll around. So get the crêpes, but you can skip the baked goods.

Google
Exquisite plating, friendly staff, accommodations were excellent. Baby friendly bathroom and multiple highchairs. The food was delicious and filling. Iced oat chai was a fantastic choice. I got a savory crepe and could not finish it all on my own. I plan to make this a regular spot for baby and mom dates.

Google
Unfortunately we weren't impressed. The prosciutto crepe was unbearably sweet. I got the salmon and lemon creme... zero evidence of any lemon flavor to counter balance the super strong smoked salmon, this one was unpleasant. Tiny cappuccino for several dollars. The iced latte was wonderful. The service was grumpy. For a $55 lunch, I'd go elsewhere next time.

Google
The food was absolutely delicious. Crepe was perfect. Croque Monsieur had the right amount of cheese and was gooey but the bread held together. The raspberry champagne cocktail was delicious. Rose latte flavor was a wonderful balance. The outside seating wraps around the side with table, chairs, and umbrellas.

My wife and I stopped by this nice little creperie for some breakfast. The coffee was absolutely great, I ordered a cappuccino and she got a mocha. The staff was very fun and friendly. The decor and the vibe inside was perfect! I did not expect the floor to ceiling decor to be so in-theme from the outside of the bar. The furniture is comfy and there is of seating both indoor and outdoor. I do wish our drinks were served in mugs instead of to-go cups, but I did get my cappuccino in a glass. Unfortunately the crepe my wife got seemed a bit undercooked and a little too sweet for a savory crepe. She ordered the chicken cordon bleu, despite the unappealing crepe she said the proteins were delicious! I got the prosciutto and brie sandwich and it was excellent! The bread they used was very nicely made with the perfect balance of crunch and softness. The side salad was a bit too sour in opinion. Lastly, I got a butter croissant which was perfect! I have been told great things about these crepes so I wouldn't mind returning for the coffee and maybe a sweet crepe next time!

Google
What a great secret gem in the heart of Purcellville. We were pretty surprised with the food quality and the timeliness, the flavor was on par with much more expensive restaurants. Presentation was good and pricing is right. We'll be back for sure.

Google
Sadly we were not impressed. I ordered the apricot and cream crepe and asked for bacon, I got an apricot filled crepe with zero cream and a couple pieces of bacon inside the crepe. My husband got the French toast crepe and said it was just really chewy. Our order also came out wrong but they did refund us for the extra item. Not a horrible experience but we have had much better crepes elsewhere.

We have been coming to Petite LouLou Crêperie and Café for a long time now and this place never disappoints! The place is very nicely decorated and the staff is always friendly. We really enjoy the great tasting foods and the good variety of foods. We really enjoy French Ham and Brie crepes, the plain Nutella crepes, the Smoked Salmon sandwich, and the Croque Monsieur sandwich but we always like to try something new on the menu.

Yelp
I've been to La Petite LouLou many times, but recently my satisfaction has gone down. The food is still good, and the ambiance still satisfies the Francophile in me, but the service has declined. Rather than giving you a number and bringing the food out to you, as they used to do, they now put your food on the counter and call your name loudly (which affects the ambiance too). My party had five people sitting outside, and we had to figure out how to get three large metal trays out to the patio. The servers, standing behind the food watching us, apologetically explained that they tried to group the food together as well as they could. But the obvious and better action would have been to offer to help. Bringing food out to tables would be a small change that would make a big difference. Hoping that Pa Petite LouLou comes back around.

Yelp
As you walk up the the front door of the restaurant you are already seeing their beautiful decorations and ambiance. When you enter the staff welcome you in with a warm smile and a hello. The tables are so beautiful. They have a nice variety on their menu of drinks to food. I went with a vanilla caramel cold brew and added cinnamon on top- it was probably one of the best coffees i've had. My friend got a warm mocha with whip cream. For lunch we ordered a grilled dijon sandwich and a jambon beurre sandwich. both had greens on the side. The dijon in the sandwiches added a perfect touch of tang in the sandwiches. We of course had to get crepes and got nutella crepes with banana and strawberries. Overall I would love to return as the staff were so sweet and the food was phenomenal.

Yelp
We got our breakfast to go since we were traveling with our dog and sat outside to eat. There is plenty of seating inside and outside. Our coffees did not come out very good and we were sure they had put in the wrong order for them. The food was delish and we hungrily scarfed it down.

Yelp
This is a cute little eatery. The handmade sparkling raspberry lemonade was great. The crepes were just so-so. The portions were large but the crepes themselves were not very delicate. There employees were friendly.

Yelp
USED to be great but now... I've been coming to this place for years, used to be one of my favorite spots. Now, now no waitstaff, they make us pick up our own food on trays after waiting an extremely long time-30 minutes to get a croissant and a cup of coffee?!?! They seem to be quite understaffed,, hopefully they will hire more people. Very disappointing experience and it's not the only time it's happened.

Yelp
The ambiance of this restaurant is top notch - just absolutely adore the decor! But let's not stop there - the food is spectacular, delicious and high quality. I've eaten here no less than 10 times over the years and the food is always amazing. Try the Nutella crepes - the cappuccino or any of the macarons - just to name a few. One of my favorite times of year to go is right around Christmas- it's just such adorable French Christmas decor! Such a beautiful place & great staff and service too !

Lauren F.

Yelp
The atmosphere is adorable and the food is so good. It's a short walk from my house. But the service is awful! The people are always rude and I mean always. I've had eyes rolled at me, I've been straight up ignored. It's a shame because the food is great and it's so close to my house.

Yelp
I've been eyeing this place for many months, but I usually don't go to crepe places because I feel like after I often feel like "I paid THAT much for THAT little?!" BUT THAT WAS NOT THE CASE HERE. I was so impressed. Usually you get a Nutella crepe and there's like... a scrape, and it's super thin. But this boy was CHONKY. Same with the spinach avocado crepe, they LOADED that boy. And for the first time in my life, I felt like, it was enough. I'm very impressed. The coffee was a tad weak for me but perhaps now that I know I could ask for an adjustment. The inside is cute, but they could really level up the space by adding another couch, or cozy area. I'll be back!

Yelp
What a joke. First of all, I asked if I could pick the six baked croissants I wanted, instead of a pre-ordained mixture, as was online. The mature woman at the register/order counter told me that the online croissants were to take and bake, only. I had been on their website last night and was in the process of ordering croissants, but decided to just see what they had. I am not illiterate. That was strange. We ordered savory crepes for lunch and 6 croissants, and she was clearly annoyed at my order. We waited over 25 minutes when another employee called us to the counter to explain that one of the elements of one crepe was unavailable. We then waited another 15 minutes until we were called to get our order. My crepe was very crispy, but the fillings were cold. The chicken consisted of strange tasting rubbery stuff you'd buy frozen, and the avocado tasted like bad guacamole. We each ate maybe half of our crepes. Someone did remove the cost of the crepe missing an ingredient, but we won't return.
google avatar

Tyler H.

Yelp
Of the four people behind the front counter only one was taking orders and interacting with customers, another was making crepes, and two were staring at the coffee machine like it was about to start dispensing gold. The one person helping customers was more focused with answering the phone and taking phone orders than helping the people physically in front of him. With three people in line you shouldn't be answering the phone instead of taking orders, trying ( and failing due to wait time) to get a single croissant has never been more difficult in my entire life.

Yelp
We got brie and ham crepe and the bacon egg and cheese crepe. Not the best crepe I've had but hit the spot when we needed it. Likely will come back again if ever in purcellville !

Yelp
When I arrived in Purcellville, VA last week, my cousin and I went for late breakfast at Petite LouLou Crêperie. This is a French breakfast and creperie spot. It is very cute inside with subtle French decor. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We got their Grilled Dijon Chicken sandwich, a chocolate croissant and a strawberry, honey and almond crepe. I also got their French lemonade, and my cousin got their iced coffee. Our food was ready very quickly and was brought to our table. The Grilled Dijon Chicken sandwich was pretty good. The sandwich was served on French bread and it was toasted, the chicken and the Dijon complimented one another really well. I would prefer it to be a bit warmer. Unfortunately, everything else was a big let down. The lemonade tasted soapy, it was very strange. It's supposed to have sparking water in it, maybe there was too much simple syrup, that gave it this awful taste. The strawberry, almond and honey crepe, looked lovely in its presentation, but it was very dry. I couldn't see or taste any honey. Lastly the chocolate croissant was heated and it still seemed a bit dry. We shared all of these things and agreed the sandwich was the best. Their restroom is adorable, it is covered with articles of vintage French magazines. Unfortunately, I can't recommend going to Petite LouLou Crêperie, almost everything was pretty disappointing.

Yelp
Slow. Slower. Slowest. Just For coffee no less. I mean I know you have styled yourself as a French place. But dios mio this is just unbelievable.

Bonnie J.

Yelp
There when they first opened. Long wait time and way over priced. Went back today hoping they now how had it together. Unfortunately, nothing has changed since day 1. Today, no quiche and croissants the size of my palm. Seriously, you had time to bake croissants, but not 1 of the 3 quiches you offer on your menu. Plus, you assume people want to leave a tip when you have to pick up your food. I'm out.

Yelp
A dining disappointment overall. We went in to ask about food allergy and sanitary/basic health protocols and although we did not expect much, we learned just how ignorant a restaurant establishment can still be in present times. Not only is there a solid lack in awareness in how to adequately keep allergens separate, basic cleanliness practices, and the uneducated response from staff to a severe life threatening allergy being referred to in a minimizing response to the comparison of getting a "tummy ache". Once we realized just how high the lack of common knowledge in the general food industry, we realized a half attempt in this area may be a death sentence. On a couple of separate occasions, a group used to dine here over the years and the quality of food has declined significantly in taste. No longer a balance in savory and sweet combinations, making it a necessity to reassemble food to a tolerable sweetness etc. We also noticed quality of training as well as basic customer service from the owners is lacking at best.

Yelp
Went with my daughter and the decor is adorable but getting to be shabby- worn down tables and chairs etc. I ordered a prosciutto fig and goat cheese crepe. It was supposed to be savory but neither of us could even swallow a bite - I scooped about 1/2 cup of fig jam out of it. More than you would put in 2 crepes if you wanted sweet! Goat cheese was a tiny crumble on top. We threw it away. My daughter ordered a Nutella and banana crepe and there was soooo much Nutella inside she was spooning out heaps and it was just not good. The amount of sugar is just too much for one person or meal. Not French style. We got a hot chocolate and it was good. Crepes are delicate foods that should have a thin layer of filling for flavor - especially jams. These were inedible. Please teach the staff the proper amounts to use.

C. E. B.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this cafe. Alas: If you want every kitschy cliche you know about France, check out the ambiance at this place. Or come for lukewarm latte and macarons that taste like nothing. I had 2 different flavors but they were indistinguishable and cloyingly sweet so I had to toss them. Service was terrible- 5 people behind counter and, while they were quick at charging me, I had to ASK them to give me my purchases. I will not be back.

Yelp
I loved this place! I was visiting DC and a friend of mine lives about an hour outside of the city, so we were happy to find a place as cute as La Petite Loulou to meet halfway. We hadn't seen each other in over a year, so it was a sweet reunion, made sweeter only by the delicious crepes we had. The ambiance of the creperie was very cute and spacious. There were lots of places to sit. It could be a great place to work solo, as well as meet up with friends. We chose to sit outside because I brought my dog- I was very grateful for the option. The outside area is cute as well, beautifully maintained with flowers and decor. And don't get me started on the food! I had a spinach and feta pastry and a lemon curd crepe. The crepes are very big portions- I couldn't finish mine after also having the pastry. It was a nice surprise and definitely provided bang for your buck. My pastry was my favorite part of the meal, however. It was perfect in every way. If I'm ever back in this part of Virginia, I would definitely stop here again. Coffee / pastry shops like this bring character to every town.

Yelp
Very nice restaurant the decor and atmosphere was superb. The tables were properly separated. The noise level was non-existent. You could talk to your group without yelling. Everything was nice. The place was very clean. The food was outstanding The staff were polite and prompt. It was a pleasure dining there for a light lunch

Yelp
NEVER. AGAIN. This used to be one of my favorite places for a treat. Took my sweet sister here before our pedicures and after waiting over 45 minutes for TWO crepes finally got a refund and left. Worst service EVER. I will never be go back. Another guy left right after I did after waiting over an hour for a single crepe. Absolutely unacceptable.

Laura K.

Yelp
It used to be so so good! The staff now is terrible, slow, inefficient, bordering on rude. I will only order coffee now if there's a decent amount of people there, they'll hand you the cup at checkout and you pour it yourself in the cafe. If it's empty, then maybe I'll get a croissant... regardless, if you order a pastry/croissant, do not budge from the register until they hand it to you otherwise you will wait forever!!

Marc M.

Yelp
Always consistently good food and good service. The pastries and croissants are excellent. Espresso, cappuccino's and lattes are great. Never had a bad meal there.

Angelina G.

Yelp
The food was pretty good. I did have an issue with the prices being charged were different from the prices on the menu, and when I asked about it, they were very dismissive and a bit rude. There is also an expectation of a tip when you order at a counter and clear off your own table.

Yelp
3.5/5 Maybe if you only compare with food options in Purcellville, this place would get a high rating. But if I were to compare it to other places in the DMV area, I would say the food was alright. First of all, the only thing that came out hot was the soup and the croque monsieur sandwich. It also took longer than I expected to come out. This was the type of place where you place your order, pay at the counter and someone brings it out. Quiche 3/5 - eggy and lacked flavor. Also too many onions Croque monsieur 4.5/5 - I loved this sandwich, but i could see it being too rich and creamy for others French onion soup 3.5/5 - broth had a good flavor, but I think they just threw some bread slices and cheese in it. I like the ones served in a crock with a layer of toasted cheese on top Crepe 3.5/5 - soft and not crispy. Could've used some more filling Prosciutto sandwich 3.5/5 - heavy on the fig jam so a bit sweet. The balance of Prosciutto to brie was off. I didn't taste any brie at all. The cafe itself is very cute though.

Yelp
3.5 stars if that were an option. Been here a few times in person pre-COVID and this time tried the online order and curbside takeout option for the first time. https://www.petiteloulou.store/ In terms of logistics the online order worked perfectly. Everything was as ordered and on time. Previously, we had experienced some delays when eating inside. The food is outstanding. They make some of the best crepes, both savory and sweet, in NoVa. Their croissants are very good. On par with Dolce in Leesburg. They have a Bake-at-Home option that is worth trying. Coffee beverages are good not great. Prices trend toward the high side, but are not out of line relative to both quality and portion size. Overall this is a very good breakfast or brunch option and certainly a smart start off point before hitting local wineries or breweries on a weekend.

Yelp
Love this gem of a restaurant. The people who work there are kind and warm. The food is good. And it super cozy.

Edward J.

Yelp
Food was excellent. It was busy and a little chaotic but I would definitely go back. Probably try them during the week and not peak hours on the weekend as it can be packed but for good reason.

Yelp
We were impressed with this cute cafe. The decor is brilliant. The food was wonderful and the drinks were great too. Our table had a strawberry, smoked salmon, egg and avocado, and chicken crepes. We all enjoyed our dish, but I must say the favorite was the avocado, spinach, and egg crepe. The avocado mash is the best seasoned avocado that any of us have had. The flavors of everything went very well together. We also each had a drink, coffee drinks, and French lemonade. We all enjoyed those, too.

Yelp
ONLINE ORDER Let me just say that I like the food, coffee, and ambiance here. This post is about how you should NOT order online, my terrible experience and the ambivalent staff. I placed an online order yesterday, to be picked up today at 10:15am. I also added a 15% tip (for pickup! Not delivery or service, pickup! So just making my food and on time..) I wanted a nice breakfast and coffee on my birthday! I arrive at 10:19 and there's no designated place for curbside pickup like my online order says I can do, so I just park and go in (because I was a few minutes late so I assumed it would be already ready and waiting so I could just grab and go, right?) Well, inside there's no place for pickup either, so I wait in the cashiers line. So I don't get up to her until 10:23. I tell her about my order that it was for 10:15 pickup and she says "they're working on it now." ...ok. So I wait. I stand there and watch them make my entire order while I'm waiting. A few people seem to be talking about me an my order to eachother but no one ever says a word to me. When it's all finally ready, the person I can only assume is the manager, only says to me, "would you like silverware?" Yes. "Ok have a nice day!" WHAT?! That's all you have to say to me?? You made my entire order while I was in here waiting! What was the point of me placing my order a day ahead of time online? Or giving that 15% tip? No apology for me waiting?? Manager: you could have made this right with me in that moment but you chose to ignore the issue. Sorry you lost my business and I'm telling Yelp. Hope you all think twice now...

Holly D.

Yelp
Ambiance is really neat. It gets super busy sometimes which can cause kind of slow service. Some of the food is ordered and not made there, but the crepes are pretty good as well as the sandwiches.
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
From their crepes to quiche, pastries to coffee, it's all so delicious. They have the most delectable sandwiches - the croque monsieur is my favorite. If wine is what you prefer ( for me, it's a yes!) the sparking rosé is a lovely choice and pairs with a multitude of their menu items. The decor is stunning -you'll feel like you're sitting in a café on Avenue des Champs-Élysées Perfect for a girls luncheon or special occasion or even a date lunch. Ample seating outside in warmer months makes it a perfect destination.

Yelp
Short story: French themed, café styled restaurant. The menu has some rotating seasonal items and some tried and true staples. Professional and accommodating staff, and usually busy on the weekends. I try to go as often as I can. Longer story: An out-of-town visitor was craving crepes and we didn't feel like cooking, but didn't mind driving. This place isn't really close to any major area, but the drive there is pretty in most any season. Having no idea what to expect other than knowing it did in-fact sell crepes, we went in blind. The benefit of this was being very pleasantly surprised. When we walked in everyone in our group turned towards each other and said, "I think we made a good choice." And our experience confirmed that initial impression. The interior is French themed and decorated. You don't need to call ahead, and there is open seating. After placing the order you're given a table number and the food is brought to you on large silver platters. They have chilled water near the coffee/tea area, with self-serve cups. The menu is moderately sized and most things are customizable. They DO have a gluten free option, which was important for our group. There are also vegetarian options. They had flavored lemonades and a variety of coffee and tea drinks available. The food was being served on and with disposable goods, and it seemed customary to clear one's own table. I wasn't sure if this was a temporary COVID accommodation or something more regular. They also have indoor and outdoor seating (weather permitting).

Yelp
Super cute place with excellent food. The tomato, mozzarella, pesto sandwich is my favorite and their Cream Puff pastries can't be matched. Recommend!

Valerie M.

Yelp
I walked in 30 min before closing, told the person taking orders I had never been there before and I would need a moment to decide what to order. Instead of saying "absolutely, take your time" they said "well just to let you know we close in 30 minutes". I didn't respond because I thought it was really rude so they repeated themselves. I still didn't respond. I left. This is a dining establishment ... if I arrive and you're open, you should be prepared to serve guests. I felt completely unwelcome. According to the last few months of one star reviews I'm not alone in my disappointment.

Yelp
French Onion Soup is very authentic and unforgettable. The apple pie is great and flaky.

Amira D.

Yelp
Came back and was disappointed by the quality of food. The French onion soup lacked flavor and was served in a paper cup. This place had so much charm and it is now sad to see how the quality of food has gone down. The prices have remained the same. $7 for a cup of French onion soup and $14 for the crepes. I hope they bring the quality back to what it use to be. It would be sad to see this place go.

Yelp
Great French style restaurant. Serves crepes and sandwiches. Along with some pastries and cakes.

Kontorōra O.

Yelp
Appears my reviews are being censored, moderated is hiding them, not seeing them. My objective of sensing these reviews is solely for the restaurants to receive input and adjust accordingly :) First picture is what the sandwich is suppose to look like. Substantial amount of ham, as it has always been in the past. I'm chalking the outcome of the product to be what we refer to as shrinkflation ;)

Rebecca N.

Yelp
Coffee was lovely, London fog was properly steeped, croque madame was delicious, berry and crème crepe was great, quiche florentine was good and I appreciated the side salads. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
This place was amazing!!!!!!! 5/5, everything came out pretty quick as well. I also got a pistachio macaroon, I would skip out on that, not worth money it's tiny. Other than that amazing.

Yelp
I recently discovered this cute little local gem a few weeks ago. I'm a huge fan of crepes and coffee. This place is so so cute. Very French chic vibes. Service always A+ and food/drinks are amazing. I try to support local and eat here weekly when I can!! I definitely crave it some days.

Marissa N.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our 2 visits to Loulou creperie so far. The Dijon mustard chicken crepe was very good as was the berries and cream dessert crepe and Cadbury egg croissant. Only drawbacks were they don't use real silverware or plates. Overall, would recommend trying them out!
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered off the savory crepe menu a gluten free prosciutto, goat cheese and fig and the second order was a regular crepe chicken, mozzarella, and tomato. I was caught by surprise the gluten free one barely had any filling in it yet the regular one was stuffed. Also although the prosciutto, goat cheese and fig was listed on the savory menu it was extremely sweet with way too much fig syrup and fig jelly inside that over powered the savory mainly because lack of savory prosciutto and goat cheese....extremely skimpy. Coffee was warm but not hot. Nice atmosphere. Nice staff although I did say gluten free at the time of order but they brought me a regular and had to remake it.

Yelp
This is wonderful! I finally found a local to me French Pastry shop! I'm here today checking them out with my friend Dan. We ordered their crepes, some tea, and one of their ginger hand-made sodas. The cafe is beautifully decorated and the staff are nice and polite! The food is so delicious and tasty. I ordered their Brie with Apricot Jam crepe and an almond croissant with a pot of English Breakfast Tea.

Yelp
Good food and coffee. A bit pricey. Nice atmosphere. But this cafe really should stop giving everyone single-use plastic and cardboard cups, particularly since there aren't any recycling bins or compost bins anywhere. We come here regularly and see so much waste!! :( It's 2023 and time for cafes and restaurants to switch to sustainable practices.

Yelp
Great coffee, good food, the cafe looks like a chunk of Europe that managed to land in Purcellville. It's a neat place for breakfast!

Yelp
Amazing crepes and drinks! I love their coffees, teas, and French lemonade! The cafe is so cute too, great place to go in a date or go out with friends

Yelp
One of the cutest little restaurants in Purcellville, or really any of Northern VA. The interior makes you feel like you stepped into a French Bakery. There's plenty of seating inside and out. Absolutely delicious coffee, amazing crepes, and fast service. My personal favorite are the berries and cream crepes, but honestly all of them are perfected. The ham and cheese sandwich is really good and is served with fresh salad. Their pastries are delicious and everything is fairly priced. Of the many times I've been there, I don't think I've ever had to wait to order. Went there on my first date with my now fiancé and they even let us take photos there! Honestly one of my favorite places to take visitors when touring Loudoun county. Everyone should visit Petite Lou Lou at least once. I would go there every day if I could!
