The 17 Best Restaurants In Mammoth

"Even though the dress code and atmosphere are pretty casual, Petra’s Bistro & Wine Bar is one of our favorite places to see and be seen in Mammoth. Located across the street from The Village inside the Alpenhof Lodge, it’s one of our go-to special occasion spots to split some grilled octopus, get a bottle from their extensive wine list, and order a plate of tangy cheesecake with blueberry sauce for dessert. Settle yourself at a table that overlooks Minaret Road, and soak in the friendly service that’s attentive but not too over the top. Make a reservation for Petra’s at least a week in advance, but if you can’t get in, check out Clocktower Cellar, Petra’s sister whiskey bar next door where you can play pool or foosball and watch sports on the flat screens." - danielle bauter

If you are wanting a sit down dinner in Mammoth, go to Petra. It has all the vibes of a cozy intimate sit down high end house, but without the stuck up nature they come with. They have the largest wine selection in mammoth, James will guide you through the extensive menu, and if you are lucky enough might join you for a glass. You can order anything on the menu and not go wrong, but if you want the highlights and order like a local; duck confit, butternut squash gnocchi, crispy Brussels, mushrooms, Coq Au Vin. Always ask if Tony can wait your table, but considering he’s a popular guy, request ahead. Mammoth has plenty of restaurants, stop debating and call them because they’ll be booked anytime.

Google
Not a typical wine bar setup, but still have great wine and food nonetheless. Our waiter is very helpful. The food style is about subtle flavor and letting the fresh ingredients shine and it's done really well. (not sure if the chef will change anything about that when summer is over and skiers come and look for more hearty pleasure)

Google
First time in Mammoth and ate at a couple of other restaurants in the area the previous 2 nights. Petra's is my favorite out of the 3, but it was also the most expensive. We had the Salmon Trio, the Caesar salad, the clams and the Salmon entree. All of the food was very good and the waiter Tony was very nice.

Jon Torres

Google
Really happy with the food, the atmosphere, and the service. I was torn between the duck and the bolognese, so I got both. I recommend you ask the server if they can do an entree of the Duck Confit. The legs are cooked perfectly and the risotto compliments it wonderfully. The bolognese hits the spot if you’re craving pasta with a nice meat sauce. The portions are healthy so come hungry.

Unfortunately, Mammoth does not have a lot of higher-end restaurants but Petra is definitely a solid option for foodies. Service is very good and the food is well priced given the quality. Order the Baked Brie or the Duck Confit as an appetizer...Salmon or Short Ribs for Main Course. ENJOY!

Interesting menu with delicious appetizers and shares. Huge selection of wines and cocktails. Awesome service and atmosphere 👍 will definitely go back next time I am in Mammoth Lakes again.

Google
The Grilled Octopus with browned butter was my favorite. Everything was delicious. The best part of this dining experience was their service and Brandon went above and beyond with kindness and professionalism. He gave us some great suggestions and I look forward to going back.

Google
Amazing food. Located at the Alpenhof Lodge, across the street from the Canyons Center, this is old world atmosphere coupled with a modern culinary approach.

Yelp
Cool spot to stop in for a quick drink. Bartender was friendly. They have a great selection of spirits and beer. Low key kinda dive bar. They serve food as well. We will see you next time we are up.

Yelp
One of the only bars in town. Couple reasons it didn't get 5 stars from me is, there is a bar tender, redhair, she's very rude, not friendly at all, annnnd they close extremely early. Other places in town open later. Still a fun convenient place to hang out. Downstairs under alpenhof lodge.

Joshua S.

Yelp
Even though the food tasted alright and the staff were wonderful, we got food poisoning from the dinner we had there.

Mcy A.

Yelp
Great ambience, I don't know what the other reviews we're talking about the bartenders were amazing. That said the website and Facebook are wrong, happy hour ends at 6 not 6:30 or 7. They were also out of the cider and Irish coffee. Good time overall though.

Tiana K.

Yelp
Pink hair Nicole and Possum took the absolute best care of us, how personable and fun of a place! Love it here, will be back solely for service although tatchos were phenomenal as well!

Yelp
Stopped in briefly for a drink here with a large group! It is not large but has some personality and is a little funky. Kind of gives off someone's basement bar vibes. There are foosball tables (old school play with quarters), a TV, and I think a modern jukebox. I can't comment much on the drinks as I had switched over to N/A at this point, but I got a refreshing soda with lime and I think others enjoyed beers. I was a bit curious about some of their tables, which were embedded with what looked like random driver's licenses. Our guess is that they were confiscated fakes, which would be kind of hilarious. It's an option for a casual drink while in the Village area!

Yelp
I've been to Clock Tower Cellar multiple times and generally had a good experience, but my visit today was extremely frustrating. I'm 25 years old, and I've been served alcohol and entered the venue without issue on the last four occasions, even by the same bouncer. However, today, despite having the exact same ID, the bouncer refused me entry, claiming my ID was fake simply because it was new. What makes this even worse is that this bouncer has let me in before, and he was downright rude about the situation. He didn't even take the time to properly inspect my ID or ask questions. His attitude was dismissive and made me and others around me feel extremely uncomfortable. It's incredibly disappointing that a place I've enjoyed coming to has this kind of unprofessional behavior, especially when I'm a regular customer with no history of issues. I would suggest Clock Tower Cellar take a closer look at how this bouncer interacts with guests, as his approach is clearly turning people away--not just because of mistaken ID checks, but due to his rude and unwelcoming demeanor. I'm not sure I'll be back unless this is addressed.

Yelp
Lovely locals bar that has gotten crowded and laden with tourists over the years. Divey underground feel with fun games to induce drunken mingling. A fun, casual atmosphere. Totchos are a must. They don't serve food very late though which is probably why everyone here is wasted out of their minds by closing time. Agree with the other reviews that staff are no nonsense and rather unfriendly, but it kinda makes sense when you have to deal with a bunch of high flautín tourists all day.

Michelle R.

Yelp
Unfortunately I had one of the worst experiences at a bar in my life. There is definitely something very wrong with the blonde bartender, I hope she gets the therapy she needs. All I asked was to see the food menu and she turned to me and said "well you better hurry the f up and order because the kitchen closes in 10 minutes" she then gave me the menu and started mocking me for not turning the page to see the food menu basically calling me dumb. THEN she told me to "wait my f*cking turn" when I was ready to order. Never ever going back to this place.
google avatar

Josh G.

Yelp
Bartenders are bizarrely unfriendly here. Especially the little blonde dude - sons of anarchy, dwarf edition. Went twice during my stay at mammy as it was a fairly lively spot - but not that great. Pro tip for the employees: if you hate the out of towners so much who keep the local economy afloat, perhaps don't work in a customer service oriented job. Cheers

Nicole A.

Yelp
Extremely frustrating visit. Bartender was a complete ass and extremely cocky. Got annoyed with customers enjoying the music and turned it off. Poured an outrageous amount of sugar to replace the alcohol thinking no one would notice. Don't recommend.

Ryan M.

Yelp
Disappointed in bar service. Was hoping for quality time with friends but very rude bartenders ruined the experience. .

Will F.

Yelp
Wish I could give it 0. The bartender with the pony tail is a complete a$$. Watched him pour an entire jar of sugar into a shot and play it off like it was alcohol. Don't recommend.

Katie T.

Yelp
I would give it zero stars if I could because the bartender with the tiny pony tail has an ego that takes over his bartending skills. Don't ask for anything other than whiskey or you'll be mocked and given a shot without alcohol and then asked to give 25% tip..

Yelp
Great spot for a few drinks, some foozball and good bar food. Fun atmosphere to hang out after dinner for drinks and music. Get there early or you'll be waiting outside to get in!

Yelp
Updated take-out review. Food take-out took about 10 min to prepare. Not a surprise, but the Totchos were still a WINNER! If you're getting the Totchos to-go, get the cheese on the side and ask for extra crispy tots. Everything will stay crispier this way. I always ask for extra jalapenos as well. The jalapenos at Clocktower really pack a punch. Totchos have a nice crisp and are topped with bacon, sour cream, cheese sauce, and jalapenos. It's great finger food with a cold beer after a day in the mountains. I branched off from my usual tots and also tried the Mac and Cheese and Schnitzel Sandwich during my last trip to Mammoth. Mac and Cheese uses the same sauce as the totchos and was not worth getting. It was bland and not cheesy at all. Throwing some shredded cheese on top to give it that ooey gooey goodness and a tad more salt would have saved the dish. The Schnitzel Sandwich and fries were good and held up well as a take-out option. Sharing a Schnitzel Sandwich and Totchos is the way to go if you're feeling hungry.

Yelp
Cool basement dive bar. We played pool, ordered food and drank too many Coors banquets. The bartenders were friendly enough, it was all quick service and order at the bar situation. the food was great! I had a smash burger and my fiancé had the Ruben food was quick to come out and hot! Definitely a casual and laid back environment, perfect for a group setting to meet up and go out.

Yelp
Really cool local bar, friendly bartenders, lively crowd. Heavy pour. Not sure what else you could ask for. Thanks for a great time.

Yelp
Fun dive bar in the town of mammoth. They serve a wide selection of beers, juneshine, and cocktails. The food is German inspired with lots of fried bar food and meats. The fried chicken salad was actually very good for a pub. The sausage platter had a good selection of mustards and sausages, I didn't love all the sausage but there was enough to choose from for everyone, with two pretzels included as well. Didn't try the schnitzel sandwich but the fries were good. Overall, decent food if you like German given it's more of a pub then a restaurant.
google avatar

Aaron V.

Yelp
Place is easily one of the most fun bars in mammoth. It's very "bar" food menu so don't expect exquisite cuisine. But it's always packed with music playing and a big mountain vibe!
google avatar

Yelp
Clocktower is the shit. I've been coming here since the 80's. Jess the bartender is the best. Robert and Kirk have done a great job with the bar, hotel and restaurant. I loved the 90's when they both were the bartenders. Great bar, great bar food, great jukebox, great pool and foosball. Get the corn dogs with the cheese sauce. Great to order if you're doing a juice fast like I am.

Joanna C.

Yelp
Incredibly rude bartender (blonde woman) who made me leave the bar because I have a service animal. Technically this is illegal, I tried to kindly explain I can't go anywhere without my service animal so I'd have to leave as well, and she just said sorry then you can't be here. Super disheartening uncomfortable experience. There was no other staff member or manager for me to speak with. TLDR; this is an ableist establishment. Don't come here.
google avatar

S C.

Yelp
Maybe because we were just a couple of dumb tourists looking for late lunch during a slow season, the bar was half filled with two to three bartenders/waiters and no one even bothered to look at us when we stepped in, never mind greeting. We didn't know if we should just head straight to the bar to order or sit down at one of the empty tables. Stood there looking like idiots for good ten to fifteen minutes with absolutely no service whatsoever and had to leave the funny smelling place disappointed.

Yelp
Really cool, basement style pub. Great food, great atmosphere, solid Paloma. The Australian woman keeping the bar was polite and friendly

Yelp
From East Los Angeles to the stop of Clocktower Cellar Pub.. Was a great experience was able to watch Dodgers beat Cardinals that's always good. Food was great even that cold beer. Uhhh those tator tots are for sharing, trust me on that. Thanks for the experience well appreciated..

Yelp
Stopped here for a beer. It was the only place opened after 10pm. It was packed, lively, good music, and the service was good. We liked the beers they have on tap. We will definitely return.
google avatar

Ryan P.

Yelp
This place is great to sit, drink, play cards, etc. Possom (sp?), bartender from Australia-area, was a fun add! Drinks are chea-er than everywhere else, clean and a cool vibe. My wife and I went there every evening for a couple drinks before dinner. Food was meh but that is what we found out was the case in most of Mammoth. Good bar food everywhere but nothing to rave about.
google avatar

Katerina Y. Y.

Yelp
Looks great for drinks- but pub food - if you like deep fried with no taste or trying to disguise old meat. Perhaps it's just not in being the mood for deep fried dried food.
google avatar

Jimmy D.

Yelp
Great dive bar that's right across the street from the village. They had a good selection of beers on tap and daily happy hour 4-7. Unforunately, I missed HH but prices are good for the area. We got some tots and the house cheese sauce was a great pairing with the tots. They were perfectly crispy and soft inside. Food came out super fast too. Order everything at the bar and pick up food in the back when your pager goes off. I'll have to make my way back here for HH.
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
This place was really cool. Was actually going to stop by last year but didn't have time. This time we played foos ball and pool. So fun! The bartenders are also really on top of it with their drink orders!

Yelp
Not a bad place for dinner and drinks if you don't mind a loud frat party atmosphere. The pros: - I ordered a glass of the Oak Ridge OZV Red Blend, and it was AMAZING. I loved it! - My lettuce-wrapped burger was very tasty, although I wished the onions were grilled more (truly carmelized and cooked to oblivion lol). - The chipotle sauce was incredible! - The employees were fast and friendly. The cons: - The place was packed and VERY noisy. It was probably 75% guys, and some patrons were wasted. It felt like being at a frat party! - I ordered sweet potato fries, but received regular fries. Decided to just eat them anyway. They were decent.

Yuval H.

Yelp
I got in after the kitchen was closed, sit on the bar. I asked the bartender if they still serve food, he run to the kitchen and got me soup. Chicken and bread for free. Was very nice and even refilled the chicken. If that's not enough T he got me a shot on the house. Very nice place. High recommendation

Ryan O.

Yelp
The large cook makes blatantly racist incredibly rude remarks and the rest of the staff hasn't caught on somehow or just won't do anything about it
google avatar

Aaron W.

Yelp
Great food and even better service! It's a bar, but the service here is nothing like it. And the German food is awesome! A must on your trip to Mammoth.
google avatar

Ryan C.

Yelp
Unassuming spot for a great burger! Not a huge beer variety (15 taps including lite beers), but they make up for it in their whisky collection. Sit anywhere, order at the bar and pick it up when it's ready. A collection of games and a few TVs.
google avatar

James T.

Yelp
Mammoth restaurants best kept secret. Walk downstairs into a fun little dive bar but be prepared to pleasantly surprised by some delicious food. Chef Trey whips up notable taste far bigger than his little kitchen. The sous vide chicken bowl over rice or cabbage is topped with a salsa fresca with depth in spice. Delicious and healthy! The wagu burger is the best burger on the mountain. Best of all, Chef Trey comes out to check how you are doing and for feedback. His electric smile is backed by a clear passion for his culinary art. In mountain towns where people give moderate service, it's refreshing to see someone genuinely concerned for your experience. Do yourself a favor by skipping the expensive restaurants for a night and treat yourself to Chef Trey. I'll bet you come back for seconds. Order at the bar but don't hesitate to walk around the corner where he is whipping up his delish food.

Yelp
This place is a very good dive bar and the service from Casey (Bartender) was Great, but the food had a little bit to be desired. We ordered a Happy Hour Sausage and we received a Weiner from a Supermarket, The happy hour Pretzel was very good and we enjoyed it.
google avatar

Kimquyen L.

Yelp
Awesome fun little place to hang out with your friends after a long day of shredding the mtn. =) or a great place to start off the night @. This place has pool tables, music blasting, plenty of pizza, different beers on tap, people are friendly & fun. Did I mention that there's also tons of beer caps on the ceiling near the bar? Bartenders are very nice & friendly..they also do not skimp on the alcohol here =)
google avatar

Matt H.

Yelp
Make sure you get in early for happy hour, they go by a clock on the wall that seems to be running a bit fast (by about 15-20 minutes). Still we did manage to get our order in and enjoyed the early evening deals. Beers are $2 off the list price, and they have a good selection. There are also cocktail and whisky specials, which is appropriate since they have tons of whiskeys. For food, we had the fish tacos, quesadilla and fish a chips, all $5 a plate during happy hour. The consensus favorite was the fish tacos, but I did like the fish and chips as well. It is a divey spot that harkens back to Mammoth's non-Corporate beginnings.
google avatar

Jessica P.

Yelp
Place was amazing for New Years Eve! Stopped in to watch the fireworks across the street and found this gem. Locals and amazing bartenders!
google avatar

Leila R.

Yelp
Got their German Reuben to-go and, while it wasn't the best reuben I've ever had, it was structurally sound and what put it over the top was the pretzel bun! Oh.my.deity...that pretzel bun! The pastrami was solid and the mustard and kraut gave it great flavor. The fries that came with it were OK, but nothing spectacular. I wish I had the time or the energy to have stayed and checked out their superb whisky selection. The bartenders and the those at the bar were friendly enough and I definitely dug the "neighborhood bar" vibe of this place (especially since it is located in a nice hotel). The price for the sandwich was on par with most pubfare. Would definitely recommend checking out their 5-8pm happy hour and the pretzel bun reuben!

Nic N.

Yelp
Absolute worst bar i've ever been to smells inside like mildew and the bar tenders are rude

Michael C.

Yelp
We walked in and ordered food. We didn't hear the buzzer- so we checked. The manager yelled at us and berated us for missing it. Then said they had been waiting for us for 30 minutes. We walked in 20 minutes prior so that was impossible . They didn't make the food we ordered and the manager told us to take what get. The food we had to take was obviously given to us because it was the worst, fatty corn-beef they had - it was inedible. He seemed to be looking for a fight.
google avatar

Carina F.

Yelp
Negative stars for this place. Don't come here if you're a POC. The bouncer was extremely rude to my group probably cause we were the only POC at the bar. Their loss, I probably could've spent $$$ here if I wanted to. But whatever, either way did not feel comfortable here at all. I would recommend walking a minute or two to the Hawaiian themed tiki bar.

Lee A.

Yelp
Absolutely terrible service. Overpacked, smelled awful, server cussed at my group without warning and shoved me into the bar declaring that she worked there....generally speaking it was the worst apres vibes I've ever experienced in a ski town.
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
THE place to feel like a local. The cliques are alive and well, but the pours are strong and if you are on the good side of the bartender the service is consistent. Much better on weeknights. You might as well drink in your hotel or room on the weekends since they really screen hard at the door and emphasize letting in locals first.
google avatar

Rachel W.

Yelp
This place is a great place to sit down for happy hour after a long day on the slopes. Their alcohol selection (especially beer) is wonderful as there are plenty of options to choose from both on and off tap. The bar food is actually pretty good and the portions are just right. If you like to play bar games, converse with newfound friends, drink good beer, and get your munch on after hitting the slopes, this is the perfect place for you to try out! It is only a short walk from the main lodge at the Mammoth resort.

Eric B.

Yelp
Immaculate vibes. Meet me at the foozball table and it's on. Service also on point. Never eaten food there tho.

Yelp
When I was done being a tourist, and posing like I had money, I Irish-exited my friends and came here to relax with my fellow chill-the-rest-of-the-day drinkers. After my amigos noticed my disappearance, the FOMO texts slowly trickled in. I gave up my newly found sanctuary out of pity. They've always been good to me. Against my better judgment, I surmised I could share this with them. Regrettably, it became our new go-to spot for the week. Ehh live and learn. I really enjoyed this bar. It's definitely a bit "divey" but in the exact way you would want it to be. Just down some stairs from the main street, they have beer bottle caps on the ceiling, the salty local in the corner with a dark beer, a pool table, just above dimly-lit ambiance, jukebox, bar food, seasoned/witty bartenders, two desperate looking younger dudes on the prowl... brings a tear to my eye.
