Ok so beautiful restaurant. Beautiful ambiance, beautiful decor, beautiful people, great music. Has a dark and moody, art deco ish vibe.
My sister in law wanted to come for their pancakes and she talked SO highly of them that I wanted to get 'em too. But they were out of batter by the time we got there ): Instead she got some eggs, bacon, and a sweet potato biscuit. They never brought the bacon.
Since they didn't have pancakes, I was gonna get the french toast, but I asked the server about it and got the vibe that it wasn't that good...so I passed. I did get the seafood (shrimp, crab and scallop) quiche and BABY. It was so light and buttery and fluffy. An all-star entree. I don't live in Detroit and I wish somebody could mail me some for brunch next weekend. Even the little arugula salad on the side was tasty.
But that biscuit???
I love ALL things sweet potato - pie, cookies, cupcakes, fries, you name it! So I fully expected to love this biscuit too. Wrong. It was...weird. First of all, it came out COLD. It was very dark brown and smelled like a gingerbread cookie. It was kinda dry like one too. But it didn't taste at all like I expected. Maybe there was a lot of nutmeg? I don't know it just didn't taste right. I asked to send it back.
For drinks I got an espresso martini (Espresso Self). Unlike most I've had, this one was kinda creamy. Not bad at all, buuuut I wouldn't get it again. My second drink was Orange You Glad You Came and I liked that one way better.
I appreciated that the drinks all had fun, cutesy names, but the drink menu is wayyy too long imo. Decision overload.
My brother got the fried chicken and tore it up, but I tried it and as a Southerner, it was just ok.I've had better fried chicken at gas stations.
Our server was so down to earth and funny. I lost my receipt and can't remember their name,
