I actually really liked this place! Came with a friend of mine who'd been on a Friday and enjoyed it as a club. So much so that it's apparently his new favourite club spot. I can't speak to that experience, but I can speak to Petty Cash as a restaurant.
I had the Eggplant Parm Sandwich and a glass of Sangria. Both were excellent. I hadn't had an eggplant parm in a while, and sort of took a risk here because I don't always love them. Petty Cash has an interesting take - it's assembled more like a burger than a classic eggplant parm. This worked perfectly for me. It kept all the parts I love most about eggplant parms while trimming the fat, so to speak, on what I generally don't like about them. For one thing, the soft bun worked really well. Unlike its classic counterpart, this parm sandwich wasn't at all too bready, nor too saucy (which - bonus! - made it less messy). The spotlight is on the two panko breadcrumb fried pieces of eggplant stacked on top of one another. Basically everything else in the sandwich added to the experience either by way of texture, taste, or both. The cheese added a satisfying goo, the sauce was made of San Marzano tomatoes which was delicious without being applied excessively, the banana peppers added a bit of vinegary heat which cut the richness really nicely, and the lemon vin arugula joined up with the banana peppers to offer a fresh, fat-cutting tang.
The crinkle cut fries seemed like McCain, which I honestly really like as far as frozen fries go, and the spicy ketchup was delicious.
The Sangria tasted like a gummy. Apparently it's made with wine and brandy, but I didn't taste much (any) of either. If I were to guess, I'd say not a lot of alcohol here. Didn't get a buzz at all. Would be nice if they added more, because alcohol content aside it was really tasty.
The ambiance is cool as far as King St. West goes! Very, very spacious with funky lighting and pool tables. Can see it being a lot of fun on a Friday or Saturday night as it gets busy.
Our server, Marie, was lovely. Very friendly and helpful.
All in all, will definitely be back, especially to see how it holds up as a club.
