My first order from Chang's. I've heard many things, some good, about how I should try this great place. No matter the reviews, I would like to always trust my own taste buds and make the best judgement. The atmosphere is great in a nice location.
but……
I’ve ordered the fried rice with the bean sprouts, chicken, beef, shrimp, etc., as a safe option for trying a new place. Usually a typical upscale American Chinese restaurant has this simple recipe down with flavor that complements the meat throughout the rice.
Opening the box smelled like nothing—no flavor, no love, just recipes you would find in a how-to-survive-college handbook.
However, this could have been a lapse on my nose's part.
It was not …
This was far from it. Sadly everything was bland, and the only flavor I got from this meal was the sparkling water, which was more flavorful than the rice, which tasted like water, probably the same steam that was in the box with it. The shrimp was the only hint of flavor and tasted like salt water. The beef just tasted like meat and was half tender, making the alogomy an overpriced “20 dollar” bowl of slop with no silverware.
And if you're looking for a place to eat, don't wait 39 minutes here; go anywhere else. The Cheesecake Factory across the street, at least the bread there has more flavor than the food here, and if you want American Chinese food, look anywhere else—Instagram, Google, or ask someone leaving, because sure as hell they wouldn't recommend it.
If you really want to eat here and are desperate and it’s the only place in 20 miles, go to Burger King because at least they put napkins and silverware in the bag; if not, spend it on a parlay because at least then you will have some type of taste in your mouth.
