For Laotian Refugees in Richmond, Food Is Part of the Community’s Survival Story | Eater SF

"I observed that the restaurant That Luang has managed to stay open during the pandemic but, similar to other local Laotian businesses, has struggled to adapt to the challenges brought on by COVID-19." - Luke Tsai

Southeast Asia Itineraries: From 2 Weeks to 3 Months

"Pha That Luang is Laos’s most important monument — a 44‑meter, gold‑covered stupa built by King Setthathirat in 1566 whose exterior resembles a fortress and whose interior walls are richly decorated with Buddhist, floral, and animal imagery; admission is around 10,000 LAK." - Matthew Kepnes

Beautiful temples, mosques and churches in Southeast Asia - SilverKris

"Believed to date back to the third century, this Buddhist complex is dominated by a 45 m-tall, three-tiered golden stupa reportedly adorned with about 454 kg of gold leaf and ringed by 30 smaller stupas. The nearby palace and a smaller temple feature hand-painted murals that depict Buddhist teachings. The site is especially vivid during the three-day Boun That Luang Festival (November 14–16), when pilgrims join colourful processions and religious ceremonies." - SilverKris

The Great Sacred Stupa was said to be a national symbol of Laos. It was absolutely stunning. The gold covered structure was a sight to see. You can also enjoy looking at the paintings and Buddha statues at the premises. Seeing this in person was really worth the trip.

Awesome historical temple, it was a dream to make it there. However, to be the most symbolic temple in Laos I think they could do a better job with the maintenance of the place.

Visiting Pha That Luang was an unforgettable experience. The temple is absolutely stunning, with its golden stupa shining brightly under the sun. It's not only a beautiful place but also deeply spiritual, full of history and peaceful energy. The grounds are very well maintained, and walking around the complex was both calming and inspiring. It’s a must-visit if you’re in Vientiane — a true symbol of Laos' culture and pride. I highly recommend taking your time to explore and soak in the serene atmosphere. Truly a magical and meaningful place!

This temple is considered the most important national monument in Laos and a key symbol of Vientiane. It’s the national symbol of Laos, appearing on banknotes and the national emblem. It’s believed to enshrine a relic of the Buddha (his breastbone), brought here in the 3rd century BCE by missionaries from India. The golden stupa is striking — 45 meters high, layered in terraces representing Buddhist cosmology. The surrounding cloister and smaller stupas offer peaceful spots for quiet reflection. If you go in the late afternoon, the golden surface glows beautifully in the sunlight.
