South Bay Breakfast Burrito Spot Phanny’s Is Opening in El Segundo | Eater LA

"A bustling Redondo Beach restaurant known for some of the South Bay’s more popular breakfast burritos is expanding to a second location in El Segundo. A roving Westside reporter saw a sign at El Segundo’s North Village Shopping Center on a covered window saying the expansion “might be open within a month, depending on permits.” The new location is just a few miles south of Los Angeles International Airport, making it an excellent breakfast-and-flight combination for travelers. Opened in 1982 by the Dispun family, the spot originally served a larger fast-food menu of burgers and hot dogs before honing in on breakfast burritos; owner Andy Dispun, who took the business over around 2015, has been introducing innovations such as a high-end espresso machine for coffee drinks. Expanding to El Segundo could signal a wider reach for the beloved South Bay burrito brand." - Matthew Kang

It wasn't bad, it wasn't good, it's was just okay. Having read positive reviews from the original location as well as this newer location, I was in the area and wanted to continue on my breakfast burrito journey. The space is minimal, menu is easy and clear, the staff was friendly enough, and the prices are pretty reasonable. The burrito itself again was just decent. The tortilla was toasted but it could have been a little further as it still had the cold doughy taste. Pretty standard bacon, sausage, and eggs with minimal cheese. My biggest issue was that the hasbrowns weren't crispy enough and the overly wet salsa made things worse. I ate it on the tables outside so it didn't really sit for a while to be that mushy that quickly. Overall, nothing unique or distinct over any other greasy soon or something you can make at home. Average is is fine, I was just a little disappointed based on the other reviews. It's not worth a trip but there are options and conveniences in the same mini shopping area.

Google
Phanny’s has been a staple in the south bay for years with the best breakfast burritos in Los Angeles by far! I’m so happy they’ve expanded to El segundo with the same quality and taste! You have to come try, my usual is a bacon ham burrito with avocado.

This place could be amazing, but it’s not. I’m not sure why everyone is giving this place so much praise. I guess people really love buying $20 burritos that have no taste. All the ingredients melded together to make a single mushy mess with zero distinction between ingredients. And to boot ! Super boring salsa. The waiting area is hot and muggy , just wait outside. Do yourself a flavor and go to any Alberto’s , Delberto’s , or really anything that ends in to’s. Come on guys you can do better. I ordered a soy chorizo and carna asada.

Google
First time @ Phanny's...initial impressions: bare-bones space with minimal industrial seating, staff was serviceable enough, but I was really disappointed by the small size of the burrito. When I was handed my order in a bag, I honestly wondered if they forgot to put the burrito inside. :-\ I ordered the bacon burrito (tiny bacon bits were sparse) with the hashbrowns crispy (they were mushy). The one saving grace is the flavor is pretty solid...but for $14, I'll pass. Too many better burritos in the SB.

Best breakfast burrito! So happy their new location is closer to LA. Soy chorizo is a must.

Google
Delicious breakfast burritos! I stopped by today during their soft launch. Welcome to town, Phanny’s!

It's never a pleasure to leave a bad review for food establishments, however the experience we endured yesterday was quite unpleasant for the price of which we paid. Unfortunately we not only experienced very salty, soggy, and unflavored food, we also became very ill with stomach cramps, and well I didn't need to say what followed. I understand this is a fairly new location and possibly the cooks are getting adjusted to the menu, but we must be mindful of not overdoing beyond what the recipe calls for. A refund for our entire order would be appreciated, as we were to far to turn around and threw out more than half of both burritos

Quality ingredients equals quality burritos. Accommodating to customization requests. Friendly service.

Yelp
the most DRY... basic flat service i have received in a while. The cashier seemed annoyed with just taking our order... Order two burritos asked for salsa only given one. Decent food trash service.

Yelp
Phanny's is still one of my favorite breakfast burrito spots in all of South Bay. We've been going to the Redondo location for years so it's nice to see them expanding. The burritos are well priced relative to other breakfast burritos in LA. We always get the bacon and sausage burrito (2 meats) and it never disappoints. There's something about how well they construct the burritos that it hits the spot every time. It's really easy to call in your order so it's ready to grab when you arrive.

Yelp
Phanny's is the breakfast burrito plug--straight up. My 3-meat combo was so good I considered proposing to it. Prices are fair (especially for coastal California where an avocado alone might cost you a car payment), parking was surprisingly easy, and the kids working there were friendly and efficient--like if In-N-Out had a breakfast burrito cousin. Now, full disclosure: the decor is... nonexistent. It's giving "break room at a DMV." You're not here for ambiance, you're here to get fed and get happy. But hey, with burritos like this, they could serve them out of a mop closet and I'd still show up. Someone get them a plant and a poster though. Just one.

Yelp
I've been a long time fan of Phanny's in Redondo so I was excited to see a new and closer-to-me location in El Segundo. They are located in a small strip mall with Prime Pizza, Offset coffee, Blum, and El Pollo Inka. The inside of the place is small with only one table. There are some picnic tables outside but I think they belong to other businesses. I usually get the egg burrito and it always hits the spot. I've never tried their coffee but will do so next time I'm there. The egg burrito is 11.95 and packed full of egg, cheese, and taters. Service is quick and friendly. All in all, a great way to start the day.

Yelp
Phanny's does not disappoint. Surprisingly no line, no wait at 11am on a Saturday. There was also parking. It's clean and simple inside. Our order was ready in less than 5 minutes. My bacon burrito was bomb. Perfection in every bite of egg, bacon, cheese, hash brown, salsa. Definitely coming back to try the others!

Yelp
They do a very good breakfast burrito with many options. I tried the chorizo which was not too spicy. All nicely sized burritos (not too big), come with eggs, cheese, rice, hash browns and your voice of meats or veggies. The servers are super friendly. You can order to go, online or in person and they deliver quickly. Limited seating. A good option is to order coffee next door at Offset and sit outside.

Yelp
Really great burrito and gives Barana a run for their money. Highly recommend the asada with avocado. It is so good I eat this for lunch and breakfast. Ambience is nice but more of a takeout place and the service was top notch.

Marty L.

Yelp
Just so we are clear the burrito is 5 stars. My 3 star review is solely related to the locations ambiance. Great burritos just as you would expect from the Redondo location, however I feel this location has had enough time to liven the inside. They have 2 tables that face a blank white wall. They have tons of open space inside with no seating, white walls with nothing on it. Don't like the inside? Well how about just sit outside. Oh wait.. they have not even set up any outdoor seating! While the neighboring pizza place, coffee shops has theirs. I ended up eating the burrito on the tailgate of my truck in the parking lot. Also what's with way too much handicap parking in the front??? 1) liven up the inside, put pictures up of the original location, paint the walls, do something 2) get some seating inside 3) get seating outside

Yelp
Love at first bite. These are some really good breakfast burritos. Tried the bacon breakfast burrito and it had the perfect amount of crisp with the hash browns and bacon balancing the fluffy eggs and soft tortilla. Love the no frills place- clean, simple menu and quality ingredients. Nice staff and quick service. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Summary: a solid breakfast burrito with quality ingredients, at a somewhat above average price point. Definitely gets busy on weekend mornings, but the staff move quick and are very friendly and attentive. I got the soy chorizo burrito with grilled onions and chopped jalapenos which came out to over $15. The burrito was medium-large sized, and very tasty. The salsa was not spicy at all, but paired well with the burrito.

Yelp
New location in El Segundo! So far so, so good. Decor is still simple, not too many tables. Parking lot is always a bonus! I didn't wait long to be helped since no one else was waiting. I was a bit surprised since the Redondo Beach location is always busy, then again it literally just opened. It has been awhile since I've been to the RB location, but glad this location finally has regular chorizo as an option for their breakfast burritos! Not sure if they will offer coffee here since there's a well established coffee spot right next door. Prices are pretty comparable to most places nowadays, but if you are looking for flavor - then Trust - the breakfast burritos are a Must! YUM!

Yelp
Finally- breakfast burritos ALL WEEK. They got meat and veggie options! It's fresh and fulfilling. Not overly greasy like some other shops. I go to the Redondo location that always has a line of equally enthusiastic people in sweat pants and shades craving their breakfast burritos. Was so excited to see the second location open up here in el segundo. You'd think finding a gem like this in SoCal would be more common but it's not. This is the GO TO spot for breakfast burritos down here. Something this community desperately needed. Dreams do come true

Yelp
I love me a good breakfast burrito and was looking forward to trying this spot since many raved about it. It was good but would not be my first choice. Salsa is pretty bland. The service was quick and wait was not too long. If you're looking for a good breakfast burrito go up the street to Bread and Butter. Their salsa is so good and all the burritos are so savory!

Yelp
Huge fan of Phannys! I have been going to the Redondo beach location for years, so was thrilled when the El Segundo location opened next to my house! I personally love bacon add jalapeños! Tastiest breakfast burritos and always hits the spot!!

Yelp
Food & Service is 10/10! Burritos are the salsa is very tasty! Adding Avocado so worth the $2 because they pack it in. I recommend adding salsa inside the burrito as well as taking salsa to go!

Yelp
After being a long time fan of Phanny's, we had to visit their new location in El Segundo on their first week of opening. This may just be our new go to breakfast burrito spot. As much as we like the original location, the ES location is much easier to get to for us. Their breakfast burrito never disappoints (outside of the size shrinking a bit from when we first had Phanny's). The hash brown was crispy and gave the burrito a nice crunch. The bacon and sausage is a good mix and not overly salty. The tortilla isn't too thick or too thin. It really hits the spot when I'm craving a breakfast burrito. The location is well lit, with an open feel, and clean with simple decor. There's probably about 5-6 chairs and a bit of room to sit. However, most people seemed to be going in and out for take out. The workers are friendly and offered us extra salsa and checked in whether the burritos were good. Overall, I'm excited to see this location pop up so close to work and it's also convenient to get to via the 405 with a good size parking lot.

Yelp
If I want a breakfast burrito, this is a good spot to get one. Ever heard of chori-man in San Pedro? They get their chorizo from there. Solid pick here. You never are disappointed...

Yelp
Was really disappointed with my Carne Asada Breakfast Burrito after seeing some promising reviews. The "carne asada" is some ambiguous taco meat (and tastes like it), egg is so overcooked it is brown on the outside. Overall it was fairly under filled especially for the price. The amount of leftover tortilla in this $16 burrito is almost criminal! I would feel bad rolling this sad burrito up knowing how much it would suck, but maybe that's just me. I can't remember the last breakfast burrito I've had where I was still this hungry afterwards; being filling is part of what a breakfast burrito is. There are definitely better options in the area, just bummed as I had high hopes for this one to be better than it was.

Yelp
Phanny's Soyrizo Burrito + Offset Coffee = South Bay Power Couple Listen, I don't say this lightly: Phanny's burritos slap. Like, "thinking-about-it-in-the-shower" levels of slap. These things are massive, cheesy, crispy, eggy masterpieces that will absolutely wreck any sad little breakfast sandwich you've been settling for. I got the Soyrizo + avocado burrito and I swear I saw stars. It's crispy, savory, spicy, creamy--all the good things rolled into one glorious, two-handed monster of a burrito. The Soyrizo hits with that smoky, umami goodness, and paired with perfectly seasoned potatoes, fluffy eggs, melty cheese, and creamy avocado? Unreal. First bite? Bliss. Last bite? Slight sadness because it was over. The potatoes are crispy, the eggs are fluffy, and the salsa has that "I could drink this straight" kind of flavor. You will need a nap afterward and you will not regret it. Even better? They serve Offset Coffee, aka the best damn coffee in LA, who also happens to have a location in the same plaza. I grabbed an iced oat vanilla latte and almost cried from happiness. The combo of that burrito + Offset is basically a cheat code for a great day. Yes, there's usually a line. Yes, it's worth it. Yes, you should probably go tomorrow. Or today. Or now. If you haven't had a Phanny's burrito, your South Bay card is not yet valid.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the entire experience! Was on my way to LAX, so needed quick easy stop and this place nailed it. It's a couple minutes from LAX, easy access off PCH, abundant free parking, quick line to order and fast turnaround, was able to sit outside in patio and enjoy with a great coffee! Order the two meat burrito, and it was well priced and delicious! The only thing that would have made it better for me was browning the tortilla, but it didn't diminish how good it was. I'm going to make this my go to when in the area. This little center is great, they also have Prime Pizza, Offset Coffee, El Pollo Inka, and a fun super cool flower/wine/gift store. What a complete gem for the area and Phanny's is really great!!

Yelp
Obsessed with this place! My husband and I have been going to the location in South Redondo for years and are so happy to have a spot that's closer to us! This one is just as good (if not better) than the South Redondo location - the food is incredible, service is super friendly, and it's right next door to the best coffee shop! we will be here nonstop! My husband got the three meat breakfast burrito and I got the Carne Asada breakfast burrito. The Carne Asada breakfast burrito is my favorite burrito in South Bay, hands-down. The meat is delicious, potatoes are super crispy and everything is balanced perfectly. Can't wait to come back already!

Yelp
Fast and friendly service. The burritos are great and I love that they are open on sundays now

Yelp
Really good breakfast burritos here! Very clean business and friendly staff. Highly recommend for anyone in the area!

Yelp
I had the breakfast burrito with sausage and bacon. It was a good size and it filled me up! I will be back.
